Will I get the ota with stock rooted with clockwork recovery? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I know this has been addressed elsewhere, but I can't seem to find it. If I won't get the update, what do I have to do to get it?

I think that it should be pushed to you, but you will lose root and ClockworkMod Recovery. You'll be able to flash CWM recovery again but I'm not sure if you can easily gain root access on the OTA update yet.

Rooted phones do not receive OTA updates.

It will be pushed to you but it may fail. On my G1 and Vibrant I was stock rooted and when a OTA went out it failed on me and I had to flash a zip.

I was able to dload the update but took me to CWM when tried to install. I'm not smart enough to figure out what to do next.

So, you are going to make another Rom off of the OTA files with root through CWM? It will be different than this Rom you have now that was downloaded manually from LG updater?

If all you did was root, you should be able to keep it when flashing. Others have reported that it stays. If you flashed a custom recovery though, it would be wise to flash back to stock first before updating.

Verizon Galaxy S III Update!

After seeing postings about a Verizon Galaxy S III update yesterday, I checked using "About device -> Software update" in Settings this morning.
A 30 MB download started and the update completed in about 5 minutes. Software Update says it was an update from LF2 to LG7.
Yeah and kills universal search and you cant disable the remote diagnostics if youre stock and not rooted.
Also several users have confirmed it will break root. They all were stock rooted with stock recovery.

I am on the Stock rom, rooted and bootloader unlocked Using Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, EZ-Unlock, and CWM. Re-Locked bootloader, disabled root, took the update. After the update completed, CWM asked to disable the new boot image, selected yes. Rebooted, got a message saying the update failed, however it installed and I am at I535VRLG7. I was able to restore root, and unlock bootloader without any problem..

Did you unlock your bootloader? If so did you read the BIG WARNING?if not go back and read it. Generally once you root you don't want to give vzw a chance to unroot you. If you unlocked your bootloader It could brick your phone.
So generally don't take ota updates! You wait for the devs to check them out First and modify them for us.
As far as i Can tell this ota just takes stuff away from us And installs some vzw remote access crap. ( with that on your phone you will have to go back to stock if you just call customer support for help)

The update itself has useful stuff (a new radio which fixes no sim issues), but we have that already and it should just be flashed by itself, imo.
Well got my first no sim with the radio epic fail.. So much for fixing that maybe just a push to get that bootloader relocked

Did you do it via OTA or flashed the radio? I'm hoping you flashed invisiblek's in Odin. That one was actually the wrong version.

Flash the CWM version. invisiblek accidentally bundled the previous radio in the Odin package. Not sure if it's updated yet.

I'm stock and didn't plan on rooting. I used to do all that with the original HTC EVO and it took up way too much of my time... so I was just wondering if there's a place where all the updates are in a zip format so I can apply any updates manually

Yes. People pull the downloaded ota and your can flash it in stock recovery. I have the lg7 update straight from Verizon if you want it. I think it only works on lf2. If your on lg1 I think you need a different one.
Edit: I'm going into work so I'm gonna post it for you just in case your welcome. This is not modified in any way whatsoever.

If you're stock and not rooted, you should be getting updates over the air from Verizon, you don't need to apply them manually.

I am not trying to be rude but did you read my original post? When I try to update OTA I get a popup saying "Service Unavailable" It's like my phone isn't connecting to Verizon's servers to get the OTA. So I need to apply them manually, unfortunately...if possible

Sorry, I missed that. As long as you aren't rooted and haven't otherwise messed with the phone at all, I'd go ahead and call Verizon and see what they can do. You should be getting updates OTA and if you are not through no fault of your own, it's their responsibility to fix it, especially with the huge security hole that was found in these phones recently.
I had a VW S3 that wasn't receiving the update for OTA and when I talked to the rep he said to use Kies. Kies does say that it will update your phone but I had a problem connecting it. The only way the app will update is if you have your phone connected through USB. I tried and tried and tried but I couldn't get the computer to see my phone in the Kies program to sync it. It would connect through WiFi real quick.

Give Samsung a call because on the website it does away that Kies will update your software over USB.

And what if you do have a custom recovery installed? I rooted, unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM for backups. Haven't done a custom rom yet -- just installed a few apps that required root.
Any ideas on what the OTA update will do?

The same as what happens on every other OTA, it will fail upon trying to install and you'll notice because your phone will be in CWM or TWRP.

And how do I disable CWM or TWRP? I used EZ-Recovery & EZ-Unlock originally. I see a "stock" option in EZ-Recovery. Would I select that, hit flash, then select reboot recovery? And on EZ-Unlock would I just select the "lock" option?
Thanks!
---------- Post added at 11:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:54 AM ----------
FYI: Just read this over at Droid Life:
"For anyone interested, I was rooted and had EZ-Recovery installed. When my S3 rebooted it went to the recovery after the update "failed". It gave me the option to apply the zip and I did so. and it even asked me if I wanted to fix root (I did not do this part). When the phone booted it stated that the update had failed, but in checking my Android version is definitely says 4.1.1."

Use EZ Recovery to flash the stock recovery. No need to re-lock your bootloader since the OTA should do that for you if you haven't installed anything that would cause it to fail like Google Wallet or CWM/TWRP.
I know many people prefer to Odin to a stock ICS image then take all the OTA's so that's another option for you as well.

Android pay ota and keep root

If i take this ota does it all me to re root
Sent from my SM-N920P using XDA Premium HD app
You cant take the ota if you are rooted. It will dl but wont install if you twrp or another recovery. You need to be 100% stock and yes the same root process works from what i can find.
Just incase that didn't make sense.
When your rooted the updates show up and if you click the update or start the update..... it will download and try to install but it fail and give an error because you are rooted. So to answer your question nothing will happen if you try an update. You won't loose root but you also won't get the update installed either.
In order to update during a root you need to do it all manually with files provided on here. OTA or stock updates wont take and will just fail.
Tripped KNOX, bye OTA and Samsung Pay.
If you are stock with Knox tripped, you can still take ota. You can't take the ota ifbubr rooted.
