Android pay ota and keep root - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

If i take this ota does it all me to re root
Sent from my SM-N920P using XDA Premium HD app

You cant take the ota if you are rooted. It will dl but wont install if you twrp or another recovery. You need to be 100% stock and yes the same root process works from what i can find.

Just incase that didn't make sense.
When your rooted the updates show up and if you click the update or start the update..... it will download and try to install but it fail and give an error because you are rooted. So to answer your question nothing will happen if you try an update. You won't loose root but you also won't get the update installed either.
In order to update during a root you need to do it all manually with files provided on here. OTA or stock updates wont take and will just fail.

Tripped KNOX, bye OTA and Samsung Pay.

If you are stock with Knox tripped, you can still take ota. You can't take the ota ifbubr rooted.

Will I get the ota with stock rooted with clockwork recovery?

I know this has been addressed elsewhere, but I can't seem to find it. If I won't get the update, what do I have to do to get it?

I think that it should be pushed to you, but you will lose root and ClockworkMod Recovery. You'll be able to flash CWM recovery again but I'm not sure if you can easily gain root access on the OTA update yet.
Rooted phones do not receive OTA updates.
It will be pushed to you but it may fail. On my G1 and Vibrant I was stock rooted and when a OTA went out it failed on me and I had to flash a zip.

I was able to dload the update but took me to CWM when tried to install. I'm not smart enough to figure out what to do next.

So, you are going to make another Rom off of the OTA files with root through CWM? It will be different than this Rom you have now that was downloaded manually from LG updater?

Verizon Galaxy S III Update!

After seeing postings about a Verizon Galaxy S III update yesterday, I checked using "About device -> Software update" in Settings this morning.
A 30 MB download started and the update completed in about 5 minutes. Software Update says it was an update from LF2 to LG7.
Yeah and kills universal search and you cant disable the remote diagnostics if youre stock and not rooted.
Also several users have confirmed it will break root. They all were stock rooted with stock recovery.

I am on the Stock rom, rooted and bootloader unlocked Using Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, EZ-Unlock, and CWM. Re-Locked bootloader, disabled root, took the update. After the update completed, CWM asked to disable the new boot image, selected yes. Rebooted, got a message saying the update failed, however it installed and I am at I535VRLG7. I was able to restore root, and unlock bootloader without any problem..
How do I keep the phone from taking the update?

Is that what they only do. Or do they brick the phone as well? I'm currently rooted and on stock recovery and don't know if updating will break my phone please help!!!

You will probably lose root and have to redo. Might cause issues worse than that

Didn't know Voodoo RootKeeper worked on this. Have on my Asus tablet and never failed me yet. You are hereby knighted with your first "thanks"

Did you unlock your bootloader? If so did you read the BIG WARNING?if not go back and read it. Generally once you root you don't want to give vzw a chance to unroot you. If you unlocked your bootloader It could brick your phone.
So generally don't take ota updates! You wait for the devs to check them out First and modify them for us.
As far as i Can tell this ota just takes stuff away from us And installs some vzw remote access crap. ( with that on your phone you will have to go back to stock if you just call customer support for help)

The update itself has useful stuff (a new radio which fixes no sim issues), but we have that already and it should just be flashed by itself, imo.
Well got my first no sim with the radio epic fail.. So much for fixing that maybe just a push to get that bootloader relocked

Did you do it via OTA or flashed the radio? I'm hoping you flashed invisiblek's in Odin. That one was actually the wrong version.
Flashed the radio with Odin

Flash the CWM version. invisiblek accidentally bundled the previous radio in the Odin package. Not sure if it's updated yet.

[ZIP] 4.2.1 OTA flashable update

JB 4.2.1 FLASHABLE OTA UPDATE
And, after the 4.2 update I provide the 4.2.1 file for who doesn't get the OTA notification
the file is a 1mb zip and corrects few bugs (santa is back)
I didn't made it, all gredits goes to GOOGLE
DOWNLOAD

If this helped ckick thanks button
Just a heads up, if you're running the stock android browser you'll need to put back the two /system/app/browserproxy* files you had to move/rename. The 4.2.1 patch seems to update them, and for some reason I don't have to take them back out to keep using the stock browser (i'm using version browser version 4.2.1)...?
Does this remove root? And would flashing the update that popped up on my tab cause me to lose root?

I'm not sure if it was because of Voodoo OTA Root Keeper, or CMW6.x asking to keep root, but mine stayed, as did the custom recovery.

YES it does!
I had to reflash 4.2, as if I re root via Nexus Tool kit I lose custom cwm touch recovery.
Will leave this update until the removal of root is fixed.
Can I flash this trough twrp without losing root privileges

Unroot needed for upgrade to latest stockrom?

I have the ATT skyrocket rooted and unlocked when I first got the phone in 2011, and is on 4.04. I remember that the post said that I must unroot if I want to upgrade the rom OTA from ATT. Is there any other way to upgrade to the latest stockrom without unroot? I cannot find the post I originally referenced to root/unlock.

^^ what he said. Just get the .tar file from sammobile.com and flash using Odin. You will lose root after this process.
If you want to update using kies (the update is not ota. You have to use kies. ) then s long as kies detects your phone and you have a stock recovery, you should be OK.
However, I believe that you will loose your apps and data with both the methids.. So just use Odin

Thank you very much. I should be able to re-root after the upgrade, correct? Or the lastest 4.1.2 cannot be rooted yet?
I have problem with Odin before, never got anything done with it. Let me try it this time.

Yes you can root the new jb using the same procedure as before.

If your rooted why not just flash a stock rom with the newest update. That will save you the trouble of dealing with Odin.

Trouble? Odin is as simple as place file in pda and click start. I don't see any trouble there....

I meant it more of an hassle. Plug in Odin then uproot do the update then reroot. Just seems so much easier to flash a stock base rom.

Why would you unroot to do the update via Odin. I believe your logic is flawed here. Although I do agree an install would be expeditious via recovery, your argument is flawed.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Just FYI - I was on rooted stock, and just did the update with Kies without unrooting. Now i'm on JB unrooted as a result.
