Today jelly bean officially comes out for the Verizon s3, but my phone is rooted.do I have t to unroot it target the update? Thanks
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

No but it will break root. There is a thread in development on how to root the ota.

So I could just update with no worries as it is right now? I'm not any roms or anything

If you do not have a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) installed then yes it should install successfully.

And what if you do have a custom recovery installed? I rooted, unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM for backups. Haven't done a custom rom yet -- just installed a few apps that required root.
Any ideas on what the OTA update will do?

I'm wondering the same thing...

The same as what happens on every other OTA, it will fail upon trying to install and you'll notice because your phone will be in CWM or TWRP.

And how do I disable CWM or TWRP? I used EZ-Recovery & EZ-Unlock originally. I see a "stock" option in EZ-Recovery. Would I select that, hit flash, then select reboot recovery? And on EZ-Unlock would I just select the "lock" option?
Thanks!

FYI: Just read this over at Droid Life:
"For anyone interested, I was rooted and had EZ-Recovery installed. When my S3 rebooted it went to the recovery after the update "failed". It gave me the option to apply the zip and I did so. and it even asked me if I wanted to fix root (I did not do this part). When the phone booted it stated that the update had failed, but in checking my Android version is definitely says 4.1.1."

Use EZ Recovery to flash the stock recovery. No need to re-lock your bootloader since the OTA should do that for you if you haven't installed anything that would cause it to fail like Google Wallet or CWM/TWRP.
I know many people prefer to Odin to a stock ICS image then take all the OTA's so that's another option for you as well.

Verizon Galaxy S III Update!

After seeing postings about a Verizon Galaxy S III update yesterday, I checked using "About device -> Software update" in Settings this morning.
A 30 MB download started and the update completed in about 5 minutes. Software Update says it was an update from LF2 to LG7.
Yeah and kills universal search and you cant disable the remote diagnostics if youre stock and not rooted.
Also several users have confirmed it will break root. They all were stock rooted with stock recovery.

I am on the Stock rom, rooted and bootloader unlocked Using Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, EZ-Unlock, and CWM. Re-Locked bootloader, disabled root, took the update. After the update completed, CWM asked to disable the new boot image, selected yes. Rebooted, got a message saying the update failed, however it installed and I am at I535VRLG7. I was able to restore root, and unlock bootloader without any problem..
How do I keep the phone from taking the update?

Did you unlock your bootloader? If so did you read the BIG WARNING?if not go back and read it. Generally once you root you don't want to give vzw a chance to unroot you. If you unlocked your bootloader It could brick your phone.
So generally don't take ota updates! You wait for the devs to check them out First and modify them for us.
As far as i Can tell this ota just takes stuff away from us And installs some vzw remote access crap. ( with that on your phone you will have to go back to stock if you just call customer support for help)

The update itself has useful stuff (a new radio which fixes no sim issues), but we have that already and it should just be flashed by itself, imo.
Well got my first no sim with the radio epic fail.. So much for fixing that maybe just a push to get that bootloader relocked

Did you do it via OTA or flashed the radio? I'm hoping you flashed invisiblek's in Odin. That one was actually the wrong version.

Flash the CWM version. invisiblek accidentally bundled the previous radio in the Odin package. Not sure if it's updated yet.

OTA Jellybean update fails

So I'm running into difficulties updating to jellybean.
I'm rooted on stock 4.04,with the bootloader unlocked, and have vodoo ota installed.
When installing the update, it prompts me in cwm to install the untrusted package. So I click ok to continue.
A quarter way through it fails and reboots, then continues to reboot continously after it powers up to the home screen.
What am I doing wrong, what should I disable to install this ota update.
Thanks in advance

Possibly. If you can live without it temporarily without losing root, give it a try. For the update to work, you need to have your phone "stock" with the exception of being rooted, which you can protect with rootkeeper. Any apps that came stock, need to be there, etc. also make sure that your SU binaries are updated as well.
I tried the temp unroot and tried installing it, but it didn't work. I'll attempt to un install clockwork mod, and temp unroot and try it again.
Would you be able to save me some time and point me in the right direction for removing clockwork mod please

Jelly 'beans' rom build 19 question

So I tried installing this last week had trouble and got me on the screen that says something like 'this is non Verizon please take to nearest Verizon store' SOMETHING LIKE THAT, sure you'll know what I'm talking about. And I want to try over but I'm not to sure why that happened. I'm THINKING it was because phone wasn't unlocked. But I'm not to sure if it was locked of unlocked. Is there several reasons that message can come up or is there one main cause, that cause being phone wasn't unlocked??

Only reason why you saw this prompt is because the bootloader is still locked. Odin flash a stock image then use Casual to root and unlock or use Invisiblek's guide on Rootzwiki to root and unlock via Odin. What root utility did you use to root?

Yes, though having a Nexus device, it'd be good for you to learn fastboot/adb. Comes in handy.
Cool. Thanks guys. I guess is this correct?
1. Cf root
2. Goomanager for twrp
Twrp will stick right? I saw some people needing to flash like 6 times before twrp sticks.

As aznk3vi17 says, go the adb fastboot way. You'll be better off in the long run than using a bunch of easy tools. Sooner or later you're going to get yourself into trouble where they'll come in handy.

No you won't. The download page doesn't work.
I'll probably do it later then.
IIRC it's been like that for a week or more. Just do the ADB flash. Or use Flashify. That's just as easy as Goo.
Download the Flashify app, download the TWRP recovery img file to your phone and install with flashify from your phone.

Correct. As long as you have the img file and not zip.
You'll just go in to your downloads and tap it, install with flashify and you're done. Restart the device in fastboot mode and scroll to recovery to make sure it took.

Just don't use goo manager to flash roms. It's way too easy to find a rom that is not for your device and flash it. I'll use goo to put on the recovery and then remove it from my phone

It's possible but not likely. If anything it just won't over write the stock recovery.
