Hello, I came to this forum for a friend. He is looking to root his phone but not install any crazy firmware. I wanted to also use my new program "Heimdall One-Click" to test it. Once it is confirmed working, I can produce a Heimdall One-Click for the Infuse 4G. see here: http://oneclick.adamoutler.com/
I need a rooted Odin image, kernel, and matching bootloaders. Preferably an entire Samfirmware package with a modified kernel and FactoryFS. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Now that I own an Infuse 4G this thread is not needed. I'll post some firmware here when it has been created.

Ok.. I tried using Heimdall 1.1.1 (latest) last night to restore my i897 Captivate to stock. It failed and I got the connect-to-pc screen. Easily fixed by going back to download mode and using ODIN 1-Click.
I have been searching and reading for 2 days trying to get this to work and failed on my first attempt.
When I tried to flash JF6 I included the 512 PIT file that we use with ODIN. However, in the directions on the i9000 for flashing with Heimdall (LINK) - they say you don't need the PIT file unless you'r flashing a firmware that uses a different PIT file, but to my knowledge all Captivate ROMs use the 512 file.
So I'm wondering if you need the PIT file to flash to stock from a custom ROM? It's always used when using ODIN so I don't understand why it wouldn't be needed with Heimdall.
Just trying to be cautious as I don't really want to brick my phone and doing random stuff without any knowledge of it sounds like a good way to get an expensive paperweight. I am running Heimdall on ArchLinux btw. I have to steal my friends Windows PC to use ODIN.
Any insight is much appreciated. If I can successfully get this to work I plan on posting an easy step-by-step guide for using Heimdall for those of us that don't use Windows.
You can opt out of flashing the PIT, since some thing it's safer that way.
Also check this out, it's a pretty easy guide to follow:

That's the post I followed and failed. Its linked in the OP.
Following those directions got my phone stuck on the "computer -> phone" screen.
I also have an issue with Heimdall. I couldn't get it to recognize my phone. Yes... I did install the drivers and it was in download mode. Any suggestions?
Did you reboot after installing drivers?
i've flashed with and without pit files. both work fine.
I read on another thread here on this site and was going to ask this question there but since I don't have enough posts.
I know how to Use ODIN to flash my Samsung Epic back to stock. However, I have upgraded to 2.2 by placing the update.zip file on the root memory card and upgraded by booting into recovery mode.
My question is can I use Odin to flash it back to stock or will it screw something up?
Oh well
since no one knows the answer I guess I will just try and see if it screws up my phone..
You need to get a special version of Odin called "One Click to Stock". It's been specially modified to flash a stock AT&T ROM to your phone with (as expected) just one click.
thank you
I appreciate the response. I used the standard ODIN, PIT and TAR files and was able to return to stock with the latest release. It seems to have worked because it downloaded updates immediately. Thank you again for the response.
I have searched and searched....i didnt just post this question right off.... I have been looking for a stock rom or something... I am EE4 rooted with humble 1.3! I need to unroot! Any Help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Do not use Kies or CWR. Use Odin3 v1.7. If you need help use this guide http://bit.ly/oQx0NS (made for the Fascinate but same process). If all goes well, your Charge will be back to the stock kernel and ROM.

I recently wanted to downgrade my phone to froyo using ODIN and I used unfortunately a vibrant firmware I didn't notice it and know my phone is telling me:
Firmware upgrading fail!
try using recovery mode
Any help?? i want to get back my phone ASAP
Look for bhundven's one-click's in a sticky thread in the dev section. It sounds like you are already in download mode with the message you are seeing.
You can use FBis251's KD1 one-click to downgrade to Froyo.
There was a link to one a while ago but the link is broken now. Can anyone help me get a program for my Mac? My Captivate's version is 2.1 so yeah. Thanks guys!
P.S. If you could help me update it to the latest firmware after 2.1, that would be awesome! I've been trying for so long.
Kies
I believe the most secure way of updating the phone would be through the Samsung Kies software
Kies for Macbook :

I would suggest that you look into downloading one of the Heimdall-based one-click files here, specifically the one in the "I897UCKH3 Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread" section labeled "With Bootloaders - Link 1 / Link 2 [With CWM Injected Kernel from Boog]". That will flash your phone with the Gingerbread stock rom (the most current Android version officially released for the Captivate), with a kernel that will give your phone root capabilities and ClockworkMod Recovery.
Heimdall works on Mac, unlike Odin.
One quick note - if you do flash that file, MAKE SURE TO BACK UP ALL OF YOUR APPS/PICTURES/MUSIC ETC.. I emphasize that because when you flash the stock rom you'll lose all of your apps, and if something bad were to happen during the flash, there is a chance (albeit a small chance) that you could hard brick your phone. This is because that file flashes bootloaders.
Just makes sure you have a good cable and good connection to your phone and you should be fine.
