I recently wanted to downgrade my phone to froyo using ODIN and I used unfortunately a vibrant firmware I didn't notice it and know my phone is telling me:
Firmware upgrading fail!
try using recovery mode
Any help?? i want to get back my phone ASAP
Look for bhundven's one-click's in a sticky thread in the dev section. It sounds like you are already in download mode with the message you are seeing.
You can use FBis251's KD1 one-click to downgrade to Froyo.

Hello, I came to this forum for a friend. He is looking to root his phone but not install any crazy firmware. I wanted to also use my new program "Heimdall One-Click" to test it. Once it is confirmed working, I can produce a Heimdall One-Click for the Infuse 4G. see here: http://oneclick.adamoutler.com/
I need a rooted Odin image, kernel, and matching bootloaders. Preferably an entire Samfirmware package with a modified kernel and FactoryFS. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Now that I own an Infuse 4G this thread is not needed. I'll post some firmware here when it has been created.
So we were tampering with his phone because he wanted it rooted and he flashed the kernel and ended up with a wrong kernel for the i9000. The phone was stuck on the start-up screen showing the new kernel followed by a black screen. Afterwards he asked me to help so together we messed it up even more; we download a program called AIO vibrant toolbox 2.5 to return the phone to factory settings believing they were the same phone (essentially). Now the phone seems to be looping the start-up only showing Samsung Vibrant which its not, its the SGS 4G. We can enter download mode but not recovery mode. Please Help we've searched the internet as well as these forms and found no similar problem at least for the SGS 4G, Thank you in advanced.
If you can get into download mode then just use Odin to flash a stock firmware you can try ravers kj6 stock look for it on the development section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353176
There's the link to the thread download that file and follow the instructions to flash it with Odin and you'll be fine.

You flashed incorrect boot loaders. As mentioned above you need the kj6 stock ROM with boot loaders to recover. Flashing incorrect boot loaders can make your device an expensive paper weight so do plenty of research (read, read, read) before you flash again I recommend heimdall there is a complete stock one click from the kies tar ball update. I made a noob guide herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422824 Or if you are familiar with Odin go over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351783

Thank you very much, it worked well.
I've been having hours of issues with this damn phone and I'm just short of throwing it in the wall.
After trying for hours by rebooting both computer and phone, installing and reinstalling drivers, trying odin continuously I finally got the phone to update to 2.3.6 Gingerbread from my rooted 2.3.3.
After, I tried rooting the newer 2.3.6 and it seems I took two steps backward. The phone has been stuck with a "Firmware upgrade fail! Try using recovery mode message" for hours now. Odin is stuck at either "Initialization" or "Setup Connection" when I try loading 2.3.6 again.
HELP Please! This thing is driving me nuts.
--Yes I've searched all over for a solution and still didn't find one that worked.
Is odin recognizing your phone?
Yes it's detecting the com port. But keeps stucking after flashing starts. I've tried changing ports and it's the same ****.
If it's deteting the phone you'll be fine. What are you trying to flash. If you want stock I'd use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353176
Then you'll need to dl one of these for odin to get root.

wish i was as confident as you mate...screenshot attached.
Yeah its stalled on you. DL the first file I linked you to. Shut down odin. Leave your phone in dl mode. Restart Odin. Follow the OP. Plug phone into odin. Flash. It's possible you have a bad DL and that's what's causing odin to hang.

Will do mate thnx. I'll start again. I've seen reports that people successfully root using drhonk KJ1 so I'll use that once the ROM loads fine.
/sigh
You'll be able to root no problem with one of honks kernels. After that you will have CWM3. You should then DL this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513287
Then flash it through CWM. That kernel will get you to CWM5 so you'll be able to do nand backups and restores. Let me know how it goes.
Finally got in going mate. I changed the pc then followed your recommendations. Rooted
Now to update to latest CWM.
Yeah odin can be a liitle tempermental at times. Glad you got it. Let me know if you need anything else. Just so you know there are some really good custom ROMs in the dev section if you wanna go that route.
Certainly thanks much. Will take a look at those.
No worries.

Hey everybody. I have a Samsung Captivate with CM7 installed. The other day it started bootlooping and I couldn't get it into recovery mode at all, so I ordered a Jig.
Now the Jig's here and I'm still not sure what I'm doing. I can't get into recovery with the button combos, so I'm kinda stuck. Any suggestions?
I would suggest that you use the jig to get into download mode, then do one of two things:
1. Flash a kernel that works with CM7 from Odin or Heimdall
2. Flash a stock rom from Odin or Heimdall, then reinstall CM7
You may want to try option 1 first, then option 2. If a bad kernel flash caused the issue in the first place, you might be able to save your installed programs & setup instead of having to wipe everything with a stock rom.
I've been trying unsuccessfully for the past couple of hours to flash back to stock. Odin keeps getting hung up on "Get PIT for mapping..." or the sbl.bin step. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or I have the wrong rom.
Anybody have a step-by-step? I'll owe you many thanks.
Otherwise I'll just have to go buy myself a Galaxy Note. Oh no.

And u may need the Nexus drivers since u r on cm7 ??

Two things to try first:
1. Use a Heimdall-based one-click. There's one in my signature (if you were on Gingerbread bootloaders), or you can look in the Stock Rom collection in the Development section. Heimdall uses different drivers and interacts differently with the device.
2. Try a non one-click Odin setup. You'll need to get full Odin and then see if you can find a package to flash from inside of it. Do a little searching in the Development section and you should be able to find these items. Some newer Captivates don't respond well to the one-clicks.
If those don't work, look at the "Connection Issues" thread in my signature for more ideas (4-2ndtwin beat me to it. )
I followed the directions of this video on my SGS4G: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR31U0KK2n8
I was trying to flash AOKP and everything went fine until it was finished but the phone went into a boot loop. I went back to "download mode" and attempted to try it again and it didn't work.
I could still get into download mode and flash anything but it wouldn't get past that. Then I decided to give up and I took out the battery and unplugged it (it wasn't downloading at the time). Now I can't even get into download mode, but the phone is would keep booting saying "Vibrant" and then it would go to a pixelated screen.
What should I do? Am I bricked? Can I fix this using Odin or something?
Thanks in advance

Be mezmerized, and don't ever flash another rom besides the ROM's we have here.
The Vibrant IS NOT the SGS4G. The Vibrant is T959, the SGS4G is the T959V or T959W if you're in Canada. Hopefully 1-click will take you back, but if you flashed a Vibrant bootloader on your SGS4G, you may have bricked it. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help you, because it seems you flashed the entirely wrong ROM to your phone because it's not for your phone and flashing the wrong bootloader is about the 1 thing that can really brick a phone good.
Looks like I did install the wrong boot loader for my phone which is the sgh-t959v, I used the vibrant instead...is there any way to fix this or am I filly bricked? I can't get into download mode, and the phone is in a boot loop
Try one of the one clicks here in this forum to bring you back to stock
Bhudven's Heimdall One Click and flash with bootloaders. Stay on stock. Read forums. Then keep being on stock ROM. JK... Then try eollie's Heimdall One Click or thomas' Odin Gremlin Remover. With these 2, you should be in a rooted stock ROM. When flashing a custom ROM, check the OP and read the instructions. Make sure it's for your phone.
*I'm tired of giving same instructions over and over again.

Is there a tutorial anywhere I can use? Thanks in advance btw...
When I plug my phone into the computer I can get into download mode, I'm guessing from here you just flash back the stock Rom from Odin?
Also, when I use Odin to flash back to stock, do I need to download any other files other than the one specified in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353176
Thanks for everyone's help, I hate to be a bother
@ARsportsfan14
Use bhudven's Heimdall One Click. It's simpler.
