I ran across this website earlier and found the tar file....does anyone know if this can be flashed with odin or do you have to use tha samsung internal flashing utility?

Do not use Kies or CWR. Use Odin3 v1.7. If you need help use this guide http://bit.ly/oQx0NS (made for the Fascinate but same process). If all goes well, your Charge will be back to the stock kernel and ROM.

[Q] it is possible to...

Sorry, I'm new to this so sorry if this seems dumb.
So i bought the phone from rogers and immediately updated to froyo 2.2 official release by rogers/samsung.
I read about all the hype online about rooting and custom roms so i decided to give it a shot.
I used the superoneclick method to root my phone and it was successful.
I then used "rom manager - clockworkmod" and created a restore file before i did any flashing to my phone.
after creating a backup, i went on and flashed to the cognition 3.04.
Now my question is. Am i ever able to get my phone back to its original rom, kernel, and modem? the reason i want to know is because i might need to get my phone replaced due to some technical issues with the phone.
Also, does the backup of my phone after rooting play a part in any of this? if so, how?
Im sorry if there is already a post like this one. Its just that i couldn't find the answer through all the hundreds of pages of threads and replies, so I thought it would be easier to post a here with my specific question. Thanks.
regards,
danny

Do I not use that link in general, or just not to use the firmware given at the bottom? the steps are correct though, no?
also from my searching.
i can put my phone back to my backup point (just after rooting) through clockworkmod. Woud this change my rom back to stock from? how about kernel and modem and all that? would that all get reversed back to my backup point? meaning it will basically be a stock phone. But I think also read somewhere that my kernel and modem does not get changed back to rogers original one. is there a way to do it?
I then found this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846501
that says i need the original rogers rom for the captivate by the links there no longer work for download. Also on that thread, it was mentioned that the AT&T logo will still come up on startup, which would not be a good idea if i had to send my phone in for warrenty.
I then looked at : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-I896
Here it tells me to flash to a i9000 before i reflash to a rogers firmware in order to remove the at&t logo. it also provides me with a link for the " Official Rogers Stock ROM ", but according to somebody on the first link i posted here, it isnt the "official rom"
Any ideas?
This is where I got the stock 2.2 file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905042.
Edit: I have flashed a bunch of times and have never got stuck with the AT&T startup after flashing back to stock with the odin file.

Thanks. Do you know if my kernel is going to go back to stock too or is it going to remain the same as the custom rom one?

If you use the odin file the kernal and modem will revert back to stock.

Thanks. So im assuming now that the only time my kernel and modem wont go back to stock is when i flash with CWM. correct?
I haven't tried using the CWM file in that link so I'm not sure if it contains the kernel and modem. As far as custom roms go most if not all come packaged with the kernel and modem of choice.
So.. When I do a "master clear" from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989...
Would everything be wiped? I read somewhere that when you do a "wipe" from your settings it only clears user settings or something. What would a "wipe"
from the recovery menu do?
I flashed to a different rom today thinking it will help my battery issue. When i am flashing from one rom to the next, i do a restore back to my backup before i flash to a new rom. Is this the correct method? or am i supposed to wipe beforehand? The reason i ask is because this is my 2nd rom and my battery issue still seems to be there. I tried other methods of fixing hte battery but nothign seems to work. When i looked into root explorer, i see that there are a lot more files now everywhere, than when i first started. would some of them be from my previous rom? if so how do i remove them?

Need help

I read on another thread here on this site and was going to ask this question there but since I don't have enough posts.
I know how to Use ODIN to flash my Samsung Epic back to stock. However, I have upgraded to 2.2 by placing the update.zip file on the root memory card and upgraded by booting into recovery mode.
My question is can I use Odin to flash it back to stock or will it screw something up?
Oh well
since no one knows the answer I guess I will just try and see if it screws up my phone..
You need to get a special version of Odin called "One Click to Stock". It's been specially modified to flash a stock AT&T ROM to your phone with (as expected) just one click.
thank you
I appreciate the response. I used the standard ODIN, PIT and TAR files and was able to return to stock with the latest release. It seems to have worked because it downloaded updates immediately. Thank you again for the response.

[Q] Droid charge noob

I am a noob to rooting but I am learning quickly, due to my mistakes. I was able to successfully root my DC using Odin and the alterbeast md5, then I put the gummychargedFE2.0. After that is when thing went bad for me. I noticed that the version of clockworkmod did not work will so I thought I would install Rom manager from the AppStore I did that and installed the new version of clockworkmod. This did not work so I found a clockworkmod md5 and used Odin to load it up. That seemed to work just fine. But after rebooting I felt like the device ran to slow so I read several other forums and found out about voodoo lag fix and a GBE edition of gummy. So I decide to but those on with Odin. I put on the lagfix first and everything bricked after that. I started off with a red clockwm, then a yellow, then to a blue that read 'manual' and then I could not get any thing to work. So I did the unbrick tutorial and now my DC boots back up like normal again.
What I want to know how to successfully do is install a full functioning clockwm and then get a stable GBE rom and lag fix onto my DC. I noticed that in most of the tutorials I have read and watched it an getting confused with when something is to be performed via Odin or when it is to be performed via sd card install via clockwm.
Please help, I need to Get my DC running on a GBE root that is fast and stable, before 9pm cat today because I am being sent to several cities for work and need to tether for free.
I would also like to remove all my bloatware to if possible.
Thanks for the help in advance

I would suggest the EP3HA Odin, then follow it up with the same version of CWM that's in the EP3HA thread. Be sure to follow the directions... nobody wants an expensive paperweight.

Are you referring to this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1293175
If so I see no instructions just a link and when it says flash, it says if you do not know what "flash" is, you should not try it.
I want to flash the EP3HA to my Charge, but I need to know if I uncheck the Auto Reboot, as I had to when I flashed the recovery.

If you want EP3H, this is the route you should go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1293429
First you're going to have to flash the Odin file for Humble which is in the link above. Here's how you flash an Odin file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160580
In the second link, you'll find detailed and pictured instructions on how to flash an Odin file and flashing recovery afterwards. If you need any other help, just let me know!
The link that you posted is for the Modems ONLY.
Thanks, I am read out for today, I will start reading your links tomorrow morning. I have read so much in the past few days on this forum that I most likely have read them already, and if I have, it will be easier the second time around.
It seems like every thread about flashing anything is always saying I have to use a different version of CWR. Why? Or am I just reading it wrong?
OK, I just flashed the EP3HAModem.tar.md5 to my phone and all went well. I can not tell if much has changed other than I can stream a Netflix cartoon with no waiting after it starts. That is an improvement. Still can not stream a movie though.
I have a Wilson repeater that I took down before the hurricane. I think I will put the antenna back up today and see if I can get more than one or two bars.
Right after I flashed I was getting some strange Speed test results. The upload speeds were way higher than download speeds. I went into recovery and rebooted from there. I have attached a screen capture of the results. (I can not figure out how to copy/past it directly here.)
The second attachment is a screen capture of my "about Phone" info as it is now.
Thanks for the help.

[Q] Serious question/ need help

Hello fellow SGS4G owners, i have been trying to root/flash my phone for about 3 days now...with no luck of course...i was trying something new today and i think i may have bricked my phone...looking for verifications or answers...when i power up the phone the only thing that comes up is a phone icon...3 yellow dots...yellow triangle...3 yellow dots...and a computer...
has anyone ever seen this before and if so, is it fixable or is it dead.???
That's happened to me before. I treated it as an alternative to the download mode screen. It worked just fine.
ok so i should just keep doing what i was doing...?
Use the guide in the second link of my signature then when finished look at the guide in the first link of my signature.
ok thank you to both of you...you have help me out in a big way...apparently i just need to flash a modem to get it working again...i will use your guide for dummies ( since i feel like one...hahaha ) and post any further progress...
once again thank you, both of you
Lumin30, when updating kies it is showing as an unregistered device and is not allowing me to update kies...any suggestions?
Flash a modem?
A modem is not going to help you recover your phone. Bhundven's Heimdall One-Click will recover your phone. I do not mention modems in either of my guides so you have me confused.
i know, i was using Juls317's step by step flashing a kernal and modem...
apparently im running kj6 now...but still on froyo and not gb

samsung showcase HELP!!!

I apologize in advance, since I know people have asked questions similar to this already. But I am desperate for help, as I have been trying to fix my phone for 3 days now, and have not gotten anywhere!!! so here is my story/problem.
I was trying to do an update on my samsung showcase (cspire) using kies, and during the download it was interrupted somehow. The phone was bricked. (i think) so then I found something called one-click unbrick. after that i'm able to put the phone in download or recovery mode.
So i have been trying to get factory rom back on my phone. I downloaded odin3 v1.70 and v1.82 (i have tried both of these) and i have downloaded atlas 2.2 for pit and I have tried both EH09_modem_CS.TAR.MD5 and EI20.tar.md5\EI20.tar.md5. Everytime I do this odin freezes on factoryyfs.rfs.... I have tried all the tricks I can find, different usb port, diff cable, running as admin, i even download sandboxie ( someone suggested that)... I dont know if i am doing something wrong, or if it is odin... Also, i'm not rly sure about the software i'm using... I have very little experience with this kind of stuff, but i am really determined to fix this! please forgive my ignorance! TIA!!
