I apologize in advance, since I know people have asked questions similar to this already. But I am desperate for help, as I have been trying to fix my phone for 3 days now, and have not gotten anywhere!!! so here is my story/problem.
I was trying to do an update on my samsung showcase (cspire) using kies, and during the download it was interrupted somehow. The phone was bricked. (i think) so then I found something called one-click unbrick. after that i'm able to put the phone in download or recovery mode.
So i have been trying to get factory rom back on my phone. I downloaded odin3 v1.70 and v1.82 (i have tried both of these) and i have downloaded atlas 2.2 for pit and I have tried both EH09_modem_CS.TAR.MD5 and EI20.tar.md5\EI20.tar.md5. Everytime I do this odin freezes on factoryyfs.rfs.... I have tried all the tricks I can find, different usb port, diff cable, running as admin, i even download sandboxie ( someone suggested that)... I dont know if i am doing something wrong, or if it is odin... Also, i'm not rly sure about the software i'm using... I have very little experience with this kind of stuff, but i am really determined to fix this! please forgive my ignorance! TIA!!

Dear Friends,
I happened to have a perfectly working rooted SGS running JPK on Froyo until a while ago. When I tried installing fonts with typefresh. This is where everything went haywire. The phone now doesn't want to boot. It says SGS I9000 and vibrates there 4 times and repeats the vibrating cycle. I want the phone to be working again else my mother will murder me. I tried going to the recovery mode and tried to do a factory restore but that didn't help. Tried to reflash the custom ROM I downloaded from this site (can't find that link) using ODIN but it doesn't work either. While reflashing I did not check the repartition tab. What are the possible solutions here?? KIES doesn't detect phone in download mode. Is there any link from where I can download the factory shipped froyo rom and try reflashing the same via ODIN.
Guys please help it has now turned into a Black Screen Of Death. Though I can still go back to Download mode....please help guys this is getting from bad to worse....
Update: The phone now only goes to download mode...
BUMP! Please guys a few hours before mom comes home from work...
Try flashing a 2.1 firmware with Odin.
Google samfirmware.
Sent from my GT-I5700 using XDA App
You could also try flashing
Froyo that does not brick
and then flash to JI6
EDIT:
Do you have the drivers set up for your device?
Also, What device are you using? The SGS line has many phones. My advice above was dependent on it being a Vibrant
Yes I do have the drivers for my device. I'll be trying 2.1 in a while. What are the chances of Samsung giving me a replacement for the device??
I live in India. We don't get the Vibrant here. It's just plain old Samsung Galaxy S GTi9000

If you can reach download mode, find you favorite firmware in one of the guides on XDA, and using Odin flash it.
If you know what firmware you were on, you can also just reflash the PDA file of that firmware. The PDA file is Packages inside the rar file you download from samfirmware.com
Best thing is to find a guide, and follow it.
I'd JPK before things went haywire. I'm wondering what's the difference between JPK and JPM. Which one should I go for??
I'm planning to flash to JM8 then doing either JPK/JPM. Is this fine?? Or should I directly flash with JPK/M and forget about JM8? Which one is better K or M? Anything else I need to be aware of before I take the plunge??

Hey pal.
It really doesn't matter which firmware you flash. Over the time, I realized that what works for one does not necessarily work for the other. It really is a very subjective thing.
Between JPK and JPM, the later (JPM) is the latest release. If froyo excites you, go for either JPM or even JP6 (JP6 being a day newer than JPM and recommended i suppose). If eclair suits your use, I would suggest JM9

Eclair - JM9: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802909

It really is not difficult flashing firmwares on the i9000. Just follow the instructions from the thread to the dot and you are all set to go. In the same breath, I would also go as far to suggest that you stay away from custom ROM's till you get familiar with the process of flashing ROM's and troubleshooting (in case anything goes wrong). Stick to the stock ROM's and you should be good to begin with.
Do update on your progress.
Cheers.....
Fixed it. Flashed JPK everything working now! Thanks for all the tips and inputs!
I've been having hours of issues with this damn phone and I'm just short of throwing it in the wall.
After trying for hours by rebooting both computer and phone, installing and reinstalling drivers, trying odin continuously I finally got the phone to update to 2.3.6 Gingerbread from my rooted 2.3.3.
After, I tried rooting the newer 2.3.6 and it seems I took two steps backward. The phone has been stuck with a "Firmware upgrade fail! Try using recovery mode message" for hours now. Odin is stuck at either "Initialization" or "Setup Connection" when I try loading 2.3.6 again.
HELP Please! This thing is driving me nuts.
--Yes I've searched all over for a solution and still didn't find one that worked.
Is odin recognizing your phone?
Yes it's detecting the com port. But keeps stucking after flashing starts. I've tried changing ports and it's the same ****.
If it's deteting the phone you'll be fine. What are you trying to flash. If you want stock I'd use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353176
Then you'll need to dl one of these for odin to get root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032
wish i was as confident as you mate...screenshot attached.
Yeah its stalled on you. DL the first file I linked you to. Shut down odin. Leave your phone in dl mode. Restart Odin. Follow the OP. Plug phone into odin. Flash. It's possible you have a bad DL and that's what's causing odin to hang.

Will do mate thnx. I'll start again. I've seen reports that people successfully root using drhonk KJ1 so I'll use that once the ROM loads fine.
/sigh
You'll be able to root no problem with one of honks kernels. After that you will have CWM3. You should then DL this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513287
Then flash it through CWM. That kernel will get you to CWM5 so you'll be able to do nand backups and restores. Let me know how it goes.
Finally got in going mate. I changed the pc then followed your recommendations. Rooted
Now to update to latest CWM.
Yeah odin can be a liitle tempermental at times. Glad you got it. Let me know if you need anything else. Just so you know there are some really good custom ROMs in the dev section if you wanna go that route.
Certainly thanks much. Will take a look at those.
No worries.

Hey everybody. I have a Samsung Captivate with CM7 installed. The other day it started bootlooping and I couldn't get it into recovery mode at all, so I ordered a Jig.
Now the Jig's here and I'm still not sure what I'm doing. I can't get into recovery with the button combos, so I'm kinda stuck. Any suggestions?
I would suggest that you use the jig to get into download mode, then do one of two things:
1. Flash a kernel that works with CM7 from Odin or Heimdall
2. Flash a stock rom from Odin or Heimdall, then reinstall CM7
You may want to try option 1 first, then option 2. If a bad kernel flash caused the issue in the first place, you might be able to save your installed programs & setup instead of having to wipe everything with a stock rom.
I've been trying unsuccessfully for the past couple of hours to flash back to stock. Odin keeps getting hung up on "Get PIT for mapping..." or the sbl.bin step. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or I have the wrong rom.
Anybody have a step-by-step? I'll owe you many thanks.
Otherwise I'll just have to go buy myself a Galaxy Note. Oh no.

And u may need the Nexus drivers since u r on cm7 ??
ninja
Two things to try first:
1. Use a Heimdall-based one-click. There's one in my signature (if you were on Gingerbread bootloaders), or you can look in the Stock Rom collection in the Development section. Heimdall uses different drivers and interacts differently with the device.
2. Try a non one-click Odin setup. You'll need to get full Odin and then see if you can find a package to flash from inside of it. Do a little searching in the Development section and you should be able to find these items. Some newer Captivates don't respond well to the one-clicks.
If those don't work, look at the "Connection Issues" thread in my signature for more ideas (4-2ndtwin beat me to it. )

Need more info, exact model number firmware you were on, firmware file you were tryimg to flash, did you check, or uncheck anything in Odin? Download mode is good, you should be OK.
How do you know its softbrick? Bootloop, hang at logo? Which one?, as much data as possible will get you fixed faster.
I had same problem. You need a PIT file for p6200 and use it in odin together with the newest firmware from sammobile.com.
It works for me.

I have limited knowledge on flashing, but as far as I know, If u r using a 'PIT' file, be sure to check on 'Repartition' Option in Odin (while flashing). If u Flash wid ONLY a md5 file, ensure that 'Re Partition' box is unchecked while flashing. May be u kept Repartition checked while you were not using a PIT file or vice versa.
If that is d case, try flashing again by following a correct process.
this is the second time i've soft bricked my phone in the past 6 days and if this is fixable i will probably consider researching for weeks at a time before trying anything new..
anyway, the first time i soft bricked my phone last week, my s6 was rooted (via chainfire, G920IDVU1AOC6) but i decided to unroot so i could update software. after unrooting with SuperSU, i attempted to update by using smart switch and then something went wrong with that process (my firmware was at G920IDVU1AOC4) which i then fixed by flashing G920IDVU1BOE3 (latest stock firmware) WITHOUT the hidden.img
backstory out of the way, i wanted to flash TWRP so i could install xposed installer. i used the same chainfire firmware that worked the week prior (above) and so now my phone is soft bricked
things i've tried:
- flashing recovery of AOC4 - i can get back into recovery mode with the older firmware
- flashing AOC4 stock firmware with AND without the hidden.img
- flashing the BOE3 stock firmware with AND without the hidden.img
i'm still able to get into download mode and stock recovery and i've already tried wiping cache and factory reset but nothing works.
i continue to get FAILED on odin
if anyone is able to bring my phone back from purgatory for the second time it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advanced, mojo.
Ok, I soft bricked my s6 too :/ its fine now so dont worry, actually, I read somewhere the problem of failing is in Odin, and you need to flash the stock recovery and then recocery.img you extracted from it in a way odin can read, im from my phone now so I will try to search it out, hope I will find. Dont worry dude your s6 is alive.
Ok i found it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/solved-stuck-download-mode-failed-odin-t3104736 , I burned stock and then the file he supplied, worked like a charm.

UPDATE: i tried flashing stock and then the my-recovery.img.tar and i could get into recovery but i was stuck in boot loop.
is there something i'm doing that's incorrect?

Did you remove the cable, boot download mode, then reconnect and let the driver install screen complete on your PC? Sorry if its a bit redundant but I had made this mistake before.

I FIXED IT.
i'm not exactly sure of the steps i took, as i had to keep waiting for my Unified Android Toolkit to create the tars but essentially what i did was i flashed;
- stock BOE3 WITHOUT hidden.img
- TWRP recovery (was able to boot into twrp and when i looked through some settings (reboot) it said i had no OS installed for some reason
- from this info i tried flashing the AOC4 older firmware WITHOUT hidden.img then it worked.
do you think it is worth attempting the smart switch thing mentioned in that link you posted?
i wouldn't want to run into this problem again..
my lord.. so SOMEHOW i managed to get myself into this for THE THIRD TIME..
once i got it fixed, just a few hours ago, everything was fine and i was then able to flash CF root again.
but once i tried to install TWRP (it worked before i fixed the second time) odin FAILED again and i'm back to square one.
i'm unsure how to properly fix it and the steps i took before aren't working now and i can't even flash any recoveries (whether its AOC4, BOE3 or TWRP)
can anyone suggest anything else please?? i'm in panic mode again lol
this is definitely the last time i try to do any type of configuration with this device.
Do you have recovery now? Maybe burn some custom rom? ..

now i can't flash the twrp .. it won't work. this suck so much!
UPDATE (final update, hopefully ): fixed it AGAIN.
after going through this hellish nightmare for the 3rd time and reading countless threads, i've discovered that the FAILs on odin may be occurring due to the corruption of the firmware file.
so if anyone goes through my problem, CREATE A COPY of the desired firmware before flashing with odin!
thanks justen for your patience and attempts to help me!
