The device mentioned in the article is a Captivate 4G... Is there such a thing or did they mean the "Captivate".
Update: this is for our device! They removed the 4G.

HSPA enabled I guess
They might enable HSPA.
Pantech and LG didn't get 4G moniker so copy-paste mistake is out.

Looks like they have changed the press release - Captivate no longer has 4G listed against it.
Also - I don't see anything that calls out which revision of Gingerbread will come, last weekend's leak on samfirmware for the Epic was for 2.3.4, so perhaps Samsung has advanced the ball since KF1.

So really, this means we will see GB drop in 1Q 2012, right?

I can confussed.

Earlier in the post there is a sentence that just says Captivate without the 4G:
"In addition, Samsung Captivate™ owners will be able to upgrade to Gingerbread."
BTW, what does "Post-paid" mean?

Confirmed still saying 4g here

Post-paid means they send a bill to you at the end of the month. It's normal phone service. They use the term Post-Paid to differentiate from Pre-Paid customers.

Mystery solved, there are two versions of the press release - the one at http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/att-customers-to-enjoy-gingerbread-126113088.html (the link from engadget takes you here) does not put 4G next to the Captivate.

because ATT doesnt actually have a 4G network??

Not sure this is good news
After trying both AT&T and Rogers' Froyo versions for Captivate, and being disappointed; I would say look towards CyanogenMod 7.1 for an update to this phone rather than any official Gingerbread.

You don't get it, once the official version drops (this means having sources) then the devs here can do their magic.

After two rather under-performing stock Captivate 2.2 ROMs, I'm not sure I'll be going back to the stock updates without a compelling reason. The performance of CyanogenMod has convinced my to stick with it.
So far after testing almost every feature on the phone I can, it seems that CM has everything the stock ROM did and the GPS works, a first for my phone. I really do hope that Samsung has made some really good progress on this version though.

Could the Captivate be the first SGS to get Froyo?

Well, I ran across this little tibit in my relentless search for more information on the timeline for Froyo on this line...
Earlier, I posted a thread about another rumor I found on the net indicating AT&T & T-Mobile would get Froyo by mid-October. Reading between the lines of these two tibits, and considering the impending loss of exclusivity of the iPhone for AT&T, we might just get Froyo even before the I9000. I know, that doesn't make sense when you consider how many builds ahead the I9000 appears to be over Cappy, but who knows if that really is the case. Moreover, AT&T really needs this phone to work right as it is, at the present time, their best Android offering. Sure would be nice if this ends up being the case.

NO! Vibrant JI6 is a 2.1 (confirmed in forum posts) - always has been. A version number for one phone means nothing to another phone. It is really just a date stamp.

I havent noticed anything about a FroYo ROM for the Mes but wanted to make sure. I thought I saw that it was released on the Galaxy S but is it available for the Mes in any form yet?

EU Galaxy S and Telus Fascinate only as far as I know. The Mesmerize is slated for Q1 2011. Hopefully that's January and not March. If the VZW Fascinate gets it first, it can and probably will be ported and vice versa.

Ok, figured as much.
When I was in the USCC corp store getting the Mes, one of the guys seems pretty sure 2.2 would be out in Jan. hope he's right.
I guess the question I have is are the different flavors of the Galaxy S that different hardware wise that they would not be able to run it?
Or is it another example of Corp America at work.
My understanding at this time is that Carriers are afraid of network security?
Another theory I have seen is its about tethering and carriers trying to extract every shickle they can.
Sorry if rambling just trying to get my mind wrapped around it all.
really not happy that there is software that I can not run out there because I have an outdated OS on bleeding edge hardware.

I know some people who work for US Cell in all different areas of the business, and they all agree. If you don't go over the 5gb data, they won't know. However, if you do go over the 5gb, they assume you are using the tethering and will charge you for it.

when you start the Wireless Modem app that comes with it stock, it says that you need the tethering package. is this just a friendly warning and us as users are supposed to have that package or does the phone somehow tell USCC that we're tethering?

T-Mobile working on G2x software fix, Gingerbread coming by summer

Let's see what the outcome will be.
Didnt we know this already? Isnt there a thread dedicated to this?
Like I said when I posted this link half an hour ago, summer is less than a month away! Though a few bug fixes would be nice before then...
I wonder if the phone will remain "out of stock" until the update?

T-Mobile may issue this fix at the same time it rolls out its planned Android Gingerbread update, which the carrier announced will occur sometime before summer.
Summer starts June 21st or something. So "before June 21st".
That's how I read it. Note they didn't say "during" or "over" summer.
this is tmobile we are dealing with and you know how the updates for froyo with the vibrant went. yes i know this is not samsung but you have to think it is tmo and it is possible that they didnt want to release it so i will wait until the end of summer when we will possible get it. so do not come on here on june 21 or whenever the beginning of summer and expect to have gb on your phone that's not how tmobile works.

Yes, but in this case a lot of customers are waiting for an update to make their $500 phones work. T-Mo and LG have some serious incentive to get an update out ASAP.
EDIT: If I have to wait more than a month or so for a basic bug-fix update I may look into a full refund under lemon laws or whatever.

yes that's true it is the companies fault but as you know if lg, htc etc sends tmobile gb with free tethering or something similar then tmobile will most definitely send that version back until the company fixes it or until tmobile can block the feature and they will also have to be able to put their bloatware on the phone so it is tmo fault if say lg releases gb on june 1 and tmobile doesnt get it out until aug because they want to bloat it up with crap.

Oh yeah! you mean the unfinished GB? I can totally see how that's ready for mass production updates. >.> yeah bro. Again I see exaggerated time tables and to much blame put on Carriers. They're the necessary evil don't get be wrong but their involvement is minimal compared to what you all believe, slapping on"non removable" bloatware onto the Software is more simple than you give them credit for. Agreed options like free wifi are obvious rejected versions but that doesn't result in multi month extensions.

Straight Talk Launching "2X" (aka G2X) - UPDATE - Review Link Added

http://www.phonenews.com/straight-t...rst-high-end-prepaid-lte-android-phone-19718/ and http://phandroid.com/2012/01/18/lg-...ght-talk-prepaid-45-unlimited-talk-text-data/ and http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...and-Optimus-2X-coming-to-Straight-Talk/page10
Apparently Straight Talk Wireless is launching the Optimus 2X! One picture shows LG UI (as per O2X) but others show Vanilla Android (as in G2X)...
EDIT: There was some confusion on the version of the 2x that was actually being released. Some materials show the 2x, others show unbranded G2X. Some even said LTE. Looks like it is most likely (98%) going to be the G2X unbranded just like the leaked phone we saw.
EDIT 2: People on HowardForums are claiming to have been told by certain wal-mart managers that they have already received delivery of their "2X" devices.
EDIT 3: There is a review of this version of the phone at http://wontek.com/prepaid-reviews/straight-talk/LG-Optimus-2X-LG-L95G which goes into.. very few .. details. I'm going to attempt contacting the reviewer and see if it has a newer build.
This is GOOD NEWS... It will certainly have at least Android 2.3.4 as per the leak, and has likely had patches/fixes made to the bugs in 2.3.4.
If anybody gets their hot hands on one, and if it is indeed running on T-Mobile's network, ie, a G2X, then we need to get the version info and a system image dump.
It is CONFIRMED that the phone is heading to Straight Talk. What we do not know, is if the build is any newer than the one that leaked.
Please, if anyone gets their hands on one, we need a dump of the system BEFORE it gets flashed over.

If it turns out to actually be an O2X, I'd be surprised since our current 2.3.4 Roms came from a Straight Talk leak. If we do get a newer and more stable 2.3.4 from it, I'll be all over that puppy for an update to Tsugi.

Update: After extensive research, it has been confirmed that the model offered is not an LTE enabled version of the Optimus 2X as is being advertised by Straight Talk, rather it is in fact an unbranded version of the US G2X that will be sold by the provider with Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 pre-loaded along with a new series of T-Mobile SIM card that will allow access to the carrier’s HSPA+ network for the phone, with no possibility of swapping current SIMs used on other GSM smartphones such as the E71 and E5 since they only work with AT&T.

Right. I only left the 2% off-chance that it isn't since they don't cite any sources for that "extensive research"... What bugs me is that the "reservation" site at straight talk that apprently listed the 2x for a while now only lists the optimus Q. But reports are that wal-marts have already received the 2x.... we are lacking, however, an actual, real, official announcement from Straight Talk themselves at this point. And, of course, actual hardware with a system image dump we can work on (*IF* it is updated from the leaked version).

Some porting was necessary on the L95G (the Straight Talk version of the P999) Rom... though once we get an image, that will be trivial to do, not like the P990.

Well, I'm sticking with it as long as I can't afford a replacement. At this point, I'm either waiting for Magenta to come out with the next great thing (the Blaze 4G is not that), or until both the GSM GN comes down in price and I have the money to afford it.
At the moment, I'm still done with the current crop of 2.3.3/2.3.4 builds. CM is nice, but there are folks with more talent than me working on that. If we get a new 2.3.4 build though from LG I'll certainly take a look at it if I haven't got a new phone by then.
Thank you! And good luck finding another phone. Im sticking with this phone 2 years. Its a shame that the first dual core phone was such a disaster. And just if you diddnt know, you might be able to find good deals on phones from like best buy or costco. I got my g2x for free on contract, I should have waited 2 weeks for the galaxy s2.

Just messin' with ya. I'm sticking with my G2x (and love it), as long as I can use it with my carrier. Still plenty of us G2x lovers around, but you wouldn't know it 'cause the majority of them are just plain enjoying them with stock GB, and they're not members of this forum looking for fixes or ROMs. So for that reason it seems like there aren't many G2x users / owners, but it's just that they're not here looking for anything to fix their phone. It just works and they're enjoying it. Like me!

I just hope both for our sakes, and the sakes of whomever buys that phone, that they fixed a few of the issues present in that build and pushed a newer build.
And suddenly, Net 10?
Same web page format as the Straight Talk reserve page I saw...
Go to reserve dot net10android dot com
Link to a review added.. the reviewer did a horrible job with the "review" though, and didn't even check to see which build of Android it was running just "2.3" which could be 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 and/or have the same build as the previous leak.
if the version it's 2.3.4 we might have lg camera??
Don't know if this has been mentioned yet but I just found this in a random ad.
I'm guessing either way 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 it will have updated LG cam.. our ****ty 2.3.3 with stock cam only does 720p and this ad states 1080p recording...

Wishful thinking if you ask me .... chances are they copied the original marketing info pre-update. It would be a nice surprise, however.
This site says it will be 2.3.4. Who knows how they know though.
