[Q] Can I flash NVFlash without root? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I updated through the LG tool and lost root access. Now I want to flash the build that has root built in. Can I flash NVFlash without root access. I assume I can but all the tutorials say to have root before flashing NVFlash. Does CWM require root access for me to flash a custom rom?

I know im not much help but im assuming you cant...seems like everyone's having problems, especially with superoneclick, after they updated...im glad i didn't update....yet ....

No you can flash without root.

You only need to be rooted in order to use ROM Manager... If you just unlock the bootloader and flash/boot Clockwork, I believe you can flash about anything.

thanks, I think you are right......with Clockwork anything can be flashed...
Having SU and Busybox installed is helpfully with some apps that require root such as titanium backup and root explorer.

No, you cannot flash another ROM without being rooted. If you ran LG's updater than CWM has been replaced with the stock recovery.
Root again using NVFlash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...hlight=nvflash
Once you're rooted, the rooted version of 2.3.3 that can be flashed in CWM can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1179748

Root questions

Hey guys. I have a question about rooting. My brother wants me to root his charge and its a little different than the process I used to root mine. I think I understand the process but I have a couplenof questions.
First, it is my understanding that you need a custom kernel to gain root. I'm not familiar with kernels because I didn't need one to root my phone.
Second, do I need to flash cwm first, or the custom kernel first?
Thanks for any help.

not necessarily, is he gonna stay stock rooted or stock with custom kernel...? if you only want root odin CWM, boot straight into it and flash superuser as an apk otherwise do the same but flash the kernel of your choice which will convert your partitions to ext4 and also root you

[Q] Flash TWRP without root through stock recovery?

Is this possible? Say I didn't want to use GooManager. Is it possible to flash TWRP without being rooted through stock recovery?
There is no way you HAVE to root in order to flash anything. The purpose for rooting is to grant you administrative access to your phone.
I think you can use Odin to flash a custom recovery without root but I think it only works for the first boot into recovery since you don't have root the stock recovery will overwrite the custom recovery.
Again, I'm pretty sure you can. I might be wrong.

With out root first I'd take caution with what you do, you may brick your phone.it's easy to root, just follow the stickies
stripped down rebuild with clean Rom/Gunther/camblued modds!!!

Yes. As long as you have a custom recovery installed. 'Root' is in the ROM.
In other words if the device is not rooted, but had a custom recovery installed, you can use the recovery to flash a new ROM that already has root access enabled. You don't have to have root before hand.
