[Q] Flash TWRP without root through stock recovery? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is this possible? Say I didn't want to use GooManager. Is it possible to flash TWRP without being rooted through stock recovery?

There is no way you HAVE to root in order to flash anything. The purpose for rooting is to grant you administrative access to your phone.

I think you can use Odin to flash a custom recovery without root but I think it only works for the first boot into recovery since you don't have root the stock recovery will overwrite the custom recovery.
Again, I'm pretty sure you can. I might be wrong.

With out root first I'd take caution with what you do, you may brick your phone.it's easy to root, just follow the stickies
stripped down rebuild with clean Rom/Gunther/camblued modds!!!

Can only access recovery thru rom manager?

So I flashed clockwork when rooting and renamed the script that always reverted to the stock recovery. I could always access clockwork from the bootloader.
However I just started using rom manager. Since it made me flash the recovery again I can't access clockwork from the bootloader. Can someone offer me advice on what to do to remedy this? I want to be able to access recovery no matter what.

If you can't access recovery from the bootloader you probably need to flash it again from within rom manager. That happened to me once and a reflash of recovery worked.
Power button and volume up to access with phone off to get in.

[Q] Can I flash NVFlash without root?

I updated through the LG tool and lost root access. Now I want to flash the build that has root built in. Can I flash NVFlash without root access. I assume I can but all the tutorials say to have root before flashing NVFlash. Does CWM require root access for me to flash a custom rom?
I know im not much help but im assuming you cant...seems like everyone's having problems, especially with superoneclick, after they updated...im glad i didn't update....yet ....

Problems installing Roms

So I'm helping my friend root his 4g slide (Having lots of experience doing this for the last year) but here's my problem. Everytime i go into recovery and install the new rom. On the reboot it begins to load up the new rom, then flashes over to the old stock rom. No matter how many times i do it or with different roms this happens. And when the stock rom loads i do not have root access, however recovery stays installed. I'm dumfounded by this and have searched as best i can with little results on this issue. Anyone have any Idea's?
You have Clockwork Recovery, but no root access on your Stock Rom. What I can think of is...
1) Your only Temp Rooted
2) Your S-On
3) You did all the rooting steps, but forgot to flash the Superuser Zip with Root access on it.
4) If you flash a ROM, but when it reboots your on the Stock DS Rom. Your S is on. This stops you from over writing the System. It does a check against the System to make sure that it's running the Stock Rom.
Just simply get S-Off. Very easy. Freevo is only a Temp Root. Revolutionary is the S-Off. You have to flash the SU Zip for full root access. This is all I can think of.
Try formatting system under mounts and storage in recovery.

Under was right. The boot showed it as s off with the s off boot version, wiping the system fixed it. Thank you very Mich gentleman.

[Q] Backup before Root!

I'm a new guy for my KF. Do I need to backup the OS before root it.
If it does, what should I do?
Many thanks?
You generally can't make a back up until u have root and a custom recovery. So no just root it. There is no custom recovery for the Fire yet so u really can't make a back up anyways. I would also hold off on flashing any ROMs until we get a custom recovery.

[Q] Stuck on what to do after unlocking

I'm pretty confused at the moment. I just unlocked my device using the ASUS app but now I can't find a thread on what to do now so I can start flashing roms. This is what I've gathered so far and correct me if I'm wrong on any of this. So I flash CWM using adb then flash su through recovery then I'm ready to go with stock root without a wipe right?
I'm on version 10.4.4.20 if that helps at all.

The next step after unlocking is to install a custom recovery. If you are already rooted, you can use some app and do it on the device (Goo Manager or ROM Manager?). In any case, you can use fastboot from a PC to flash a blob.
Flashing su is only useful if you don't plan to flash another ROM afterwards.

Nope not already rooted. I'm 100% stock minus the unlocked bootloader. No blobs. I'm really just looking for root permissions on this device, flashing custom roms will come but probably not until Google fixes a few issues with 4.2. I guess what I'm really trying to ask is at this point, do I just fastboot flash the CWM recovery.img, then obtain root privileges by flashing superuser? If it's really that simple this is the easiest device I've ever rooted.

Yes, to root your current stock ROM, that's it.
Ah, almost - the recovery must be in NVidia blob format for the TF700's fastboot implementation. The bootloader only accepts signed blobs for flashing, but after unlocking does not require the signature to match, or even to be actually present.

Do not follow that guide blindly - at least, use a current version of TWRP. Version 2.2 is not compatible with the JB bootloader and may brick your device if you select "wipe data" from the bootloader menu.
