HTC ChaCha = HTC Status? - HTC ChaCha

I'm in the correct place, right?

If you refer on this, the difference is on the UMTS band frequencies and slightly on the dimensions.

My wife made me get a Status today for her, and it looks exactly the same. Now I need root to get the AT&T crapware off the phone and free up some space. Compared to my Captivate, this phone is severely cramped for storage when accessing the market. Beautiful keyboard HTC, but would it have killed you to throw some more internal memory in there?

Help me decide what (android) phone to get!

So, I'm looking to get a new phone soon. I'm budgeted for $500$850 in mid-May for it, tho I'd be willing to wait as long as August or September if something really awesome is coming out.
I'm on T-mobile, so need a GSM phone that works on T-Mo, with T-Mo's 3g.
I'm hooked on Android, so whatever phone it is has to run Android (tho if I have to flash Android onto it, I'm cool with that, so long as there's a fully working ROM available!).
I've got a G1 now, and really like it, but I'd like a bigger/higher res screen (min 3.5 inches&800x400ish res), and a faster phone, so, faster CPU&more RAM. (I've got my g1 running cyanogen with the 10MB hack, and it's pretty decent, but I've got upgrade fever and want BETTER *grin*.)
I love the hardware keyboard, but have been using swype since they opened it to beta and could see myself living without a hardware keyboard. (Tho I'd rather not, as I've had phones with hardware qwerty keyboards since 2005 or so!)
I also want a good camera. The camera in the g1 is alright. I'd like a better one, but one about the same would be ok.
oh, and it definitely needs to used microsdhc. I'd prefer if the memory card slot was pretty accessible, as it is on the g1, but I can live with it being under the battery or somewhere stupid like that.
So, what phones should I be checking out?
I've only ever had 1 smart phone: HTC Desire. Can't fault it. I note you like the hard keyboard, but the Desire's soft keyboard is very good.
The Desire defintely meets most of my specs. On wikipedia it says 32Gb microsd. Did it come with a 32GB memory card, or is wiki just listing the max supported?
thats its max. it came with a 4gb, but i'd check that when you buy it. Mine was HTC branded (unlocked). The card was already in the phone, so when i was in the shop i thought it didn't come with one.
Good to know, thanks. I'll be buying it online if I get it, since I'm in the states, but I'll be sure to read the listing to see what size card it's got!
Do you have it rooted? I see it's been rooted but /system can't be accessed. Well, still, odds are that'll be done well before I'm looking to buy!
No i don't. At this stage I'm not too bothered, but almost certainly will mess with that soon.
Look at the Nexus One & it's resume' over at it's forum section
Nexus one is certainly a possibility, but after the 3g issues, I'm sorta hesitant.
I think that the Nexus 1 or the HTC Desire are the best android devices that are released. I would suggest the Xperia X10 but it's firmware is outdated and lacks multitouch and is super laggy regardless of the snapdragon processor. So, for now, and if you need 1 now, then get the Nexus 1 or the Desire.

What 3G issues? I & most N1 owners have none & are locked on 3G all the time. The only issues are T-Mobile's coverage & towers!
I meant the 3g issues it had when released. Doesn't make sense, I suppose, but it gave me a bad initial impression of the phone, which has persisted. And I can't even go by the T-mobile store and play with the phone to dispell my bad impression, cos it can only be bought online.
An Android phone for you?
Htc Desire or Htc Legend....I would prefer the legend for a lady..my girlfriend's got it ...I tried them both...they are fantastic, I have Hero so! we are very HAPPY...you are in the right way..Android is the future.
Which Android to get??
Htc Desire of course 100% you going to be fine!!
Legend doesn't meet my desired specs at all. 600mhz processor, 320x480 screen, EW! Desire looks spiffy, but from reading the specs, I don't think it'll work on T-mobile US, will it?
I'm leaning toward the nexus one. Roomie is getting the AT&T version, and I'm going to get to play with it while rooting&romming it for her, so that'll give me a chance to decide if the nexus one will work for me or not.
On the super nice side, I've got about $350 worth of unexpected overtime coming up (someone going out of town on short notice) so my budget changes, and I can afford to spend about $850 now! If I go with the nexus one, I'll probably get it from colorware.

Yeah, that's what I thought. So the desire is out of the running.
All-Are there any especially awesome phones set to come out in the next few months? I just don't want to buy the nexus one and then 6 weeks from now see the 'Nexus one with a physical keyboard!' released.
you should go with the HD 2. I just read that there is a ROM so it can run 2.1 with sense. but look it up in case I read wrong or something. I'm sure you would double check anyway
Yeah, I'm in the same boat, kinda thinking about ditching tmo and going for the evo4g

I looked for Android ROMs for the HD2 middle of last week, and concluded there aren't any good ones, which is a shame cos the HD2 hardware is SWEET.

[Q] Nexus S, Droid 2 Gl., or DX?

Hi everyone, new to the forum (just joined),
I'm looking to get my first smart phone currently have verizon but my contract is up and I'm looking at getting either the D2.GL, DX, or Nexus S. I have reservations about getting a droid because of motoblur/ninjablur, I'd prefer a phone with stock android which is why the nexus s looks so appealing (gingerbread, mmmmm). I've obviously never rooted/bootstrapped a phone and I will if I need to but I'm not sure on which of the 3 to get.
Thoughts?
And thanks in advance.
Droid X.
I have to run, but Moto typically has the best Media/DRM support of the Android manufacturers. The phone feels solid in the hand, and I'm not a fan of Moto's QWERTY sliders. Screen is huge, as well, has HDMI out IIRC and the camera is decent. The internals are nice. Runs FroYo.
If you need (or want) a keyboard, then go with the Droid 2, though.
I wouldn't get the Nexus S over either of those devices, personally, unless you really want a FFC.
Sorry, usually I'd write a page, but I'm running behind schedule!
thanks for the info!
Hey man, I own a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and I can tell you that the Nexus S is very similar to that. And let me tell you, this baby can really fly. I prefer the processing power in the Samsung Galaxy S and Nexus S than the Droid X. I have also played with the Droid X (many of my friends have it) and it sometimes lags up (this can probably be fixed from a rom). HOWEVER the Droid X also has some major advantages, such as the huge screen (it's screen is so good for on-screen typing) and Verizon's network. If you go with the Nexus S you're stuck with T-Mobile or AT&T (on Edge). Also it appears to be that the Nexus S doesn't even run on the new 4G speeds that T-Mobile has. So it basically comes down to this (sorry not even including the Droid 2 because that phone is crap! ) : Do you want a phone that is smoother, less laggy, more updates (Google phones always get updates first, has a very nice Super Amoled OR do you want a (Droid X) - phone that has amazing Media interfaces, HDMI, a huge screen which is awesome for typing and movies, and a better coverage?
Go for a vibrant. Does both att and Tmobile 3g you can mod it for a ffc has a beautiful screen and 16gigs internal plus a sd card(nexus s is lacking one) & it also runs froyo

Doesn't the Nexus S not do AT&T 3g? It says it supports even 850mhz on the website...
Nexus S is the best phone mentioned in this entire topic. Droid X is weak compared to Vibrant... Sure the Nexus S outdoes the Vibrant.

I personally wouldn't call either of those deal breakers. I don't remember the last time I recorded a video and 16gb is plenty of space for me. It's an internal SD card so it still acts like one when plugged into PC. Just copy old SD's contents over. Not that I wouldn't have preferred for it to be external...

I'm not as picky as some people on here that expect 0% lag....guys...it's going to lag for whatever reason at some point. It's not everytime though and tbh...complaining about lag on the sensation is being very anal as it doesn't do it enough to annoy.

Just for info the vodafone handsets in the uk are sim free but do have vodafone branding although it is minimal and until they are unlocked, if ever, then you will be tied to vodafone rom updates.
I've had mine nearly a week and I'm pretty impressed. Admittedly not quite as blown away as I was expecting, but am very satisfied.
I think the build quality is good and I really like the design. I appreciate the slightly longer narrower style; it feels smaller than the HD2 in my hand, and is easier to use one handed.
I am using Launcher Pro (I like the space for extra shortcuts in the dock), which is silky smooth, and goes nicely in combination with the HTC lock screen and HTC notifications bar.
Battery life is pretty good - regularly getting two days, including browsing/gaming/music on the train, and with exchange push enabled.
Have no complaints about signal quality, and GPS fix is very fast (faster that my dedicated car GPS).
The Vodafone branding is minimal, I just hope they are quick in releasing updates when HTC release them.
All in all, very happy with my purchase.

The size of the phone is nothing to worry about. The new qHD resolution makes the 4.3" screen a LOT nicer in the hand than the old WVGA resolution.

Most the data is sent automatically to the SD card. I didn't need to manually move half of the apps that I normally I do on my desire. Seriously if you're going from desire....It's a huge change when it comes to memory....it feels so liberating not having to delete other apps

Vodafone's website says that their version is GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100. And Bell.ca lists their phones as being "HSPA/UMTS 850/1900/2100 MHz and GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz".
Does this mean that if I get an unlocked Vodafone version that I can use it on Bell Mobility's network?

Let HTC know how you feel

HTC recently announced that the new One X will not have a sd card slot, will only have 16 GB of memory on ATT, and be a unibody phone (no extended battery). To me this is the polar opposite of their stated intentions of making this a "flagship" phone. I have emailed HTC regarding these issues and they have asked for more input from me regarding these issues. I am hoping we can get more people to voice their opinion to them and let them know we are not happy one bit. I have been a long term proponent of HTC, owning a Wizard, Kaiser, Rhodium, Ace, and Raider. If I wanted less choices I would buy an idrone. Please fix this huge mistake HTC!

With all the problems I see posted about problems with SD cards, I can see why they would want to move this way, not that they should.
I guess it comes down to trying to keep the aesthetics of the phone as up to date as possible without losing too many features.

Exactly. If they don't produce a device I want they don't get my money its that simple.
Companies are always looking to charge more and give less, Just look at Apple. If you are loyal to one brand especially a brand that begins screwing you over you are driving a nail into the coffin of choice.
Say no to iclones.
im seriously thinking of abandoning htc.. they are getting worse day by day. first their stupid security measures on their phones in a ridiculous level(heck even the bootloader and radio are fu(ked up) and now this? they must be joking... i miss the good old htc...
I don't understand how they get people to buy devices with built in memory. Its more of a pain to backup your stuff. With a sdcard you can choose your memory size and always know your stuff is there and safe. Like the Sensation XL. Super cool phone. Lack of memory. Now if it was 16GB and a sdcard slot that would be nice. But now its more about the money then getting quallity

I don't think it will matter in a few years, when we've all got faster data connections and nnGB of cloud storage, and I guess that's what they're thinking of. Saying that though, I wouldn't buy a device that didn't have an external SD card. I'm narked enough that I can't hot-swap with the S2, but I can just about live with that.
the memory is not enough to play HD games
too bad no sd support
I really, really wanted the new HTC One X because of it's Tegra3 chip, its look and feel.
But no S-OFF, no extra battery, no SD-card? What? Why?
Well anyone that has plays gameloft might as well not buy these phones. Most gameloft games have to download 100-500 mb of data add that with music other apps. You basically have no room left on your phone.

unibody? no SD card? to me it sounds like there trying to copy the Iphone...but why, everyone knows that the common cell phone user does not know how to actually work their phone. when it locks up you pull the battery, that if its a android phone. idk about this one.....
I think the only real mess of Galaxy Tab is the lack of SD slot...

Would you recommend the Blaze 4G? I'm coming from a Vibrant

I currently use a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant 3G with T-Mobile. I have it rooted and running the latest version of Paranoid Android (Jelly Bean). It's serving me well, but has occasional hiccups and lagging. I keep seeing the Galaxy S Blaze 4G going fairly cheaply on eBay (sub $200) and have thought of making the switch.
I'm just wondering, is there anything you guys really don't like about your Blaze? I know the internal storage is less then the Vibrant. I'm fine with that, I figure I can move apps to the sdcard if needed. I do have a spare 32GB flash card I can install if needed. I probably don't need it, as I don't plan on adding many apps besides what I have already installed ~ at 533MB. I don't carry any music, no heavy gaming, and little to no photos. The dual core processor sounds like it would likely run things a bit smoother then what I'm used to now.
How do you like your Blaze?
It's a bit more difficult to move apps to the actual SD card since the phone has "internal storage". It can be done, but not with the default move app to sd option. The phone has something 1.12GB device memory, 1.4g of usb storage, which is where things go when moved normally, and then your SD card.
Sounds like that should be fine for you though, but hey, info is good, right?
As far as everything else, it's a decent phone. I don't use JB myself as the JB roms for the blaze have some issues that I don't want to deal with, many run them happily though.
Have to admit, I am really jealous of button light notification that is available in CM10 though...one of the things I really miss about my prior phone is the ability to know when a text message or call was received, visually, if I was not in the room when it came.
I'd say the biggest complaint that people have with the phone other than the memory situation is that t-mobile throws a ton of unwanted apps into the phone, but it's very easy to deal with, even if you want to run stock. You can root the phone in less than 5 minutes and remove them through a variety of ways, or after updating to ICS you can freeze the app so it doesn't ever run (phone will come with gingerbread by default, but the update to ICS is available either through this site or from Samsung Kies software)
Durable, handy little phone. I've had it for a long time now, I'm not a person who uses phone protection cases or covers or anything, and it has no actual scratches, just the usual finish marks on the very small portion of the phone that is shiny on the back...Most importantly though the screen is immaculate.
Cliff's version...If I damaged my phone I'd still replace it with the same model...don't get me wrong I have some envy for phones such as the Nexus 4 or the S3, but the Nexus 4 doesn't have a memory card slot, supposedly has issues with USB-to-go, and the S3 is just too large.
+1 cirkustanz. FYI the bln works well on cm 10, plus its pretty much bug free. Come on over very durable, fast phone with a good price. Not to mention all the dev support in our community is great.
Moving apps to SD is pretty easy if you use something like link2sd but you need two partitions on your SD card though

the switch is your opinion
frankly it's your choice but i honestly would go with a phone that's low weight ( ie blaze ) decent budget ( ie blaze also don't get off ebay go through an actual dealer or else it won't be covered on your insurance ive asked ) ( trying to switch to an S3 and if the phone didn't come from walmart tmobile or samsung your sol on insurance from asurion ) with that out of the way check the threads your price range and your dislikes and likes of a phone i personally would go with a phone that has a large dev community along with helpful support if you want to start creating your own themes roms etc etc the blaze runs great on ICS or JB ( GB sucks bad ju ju ) to root the ICS all you need is 1: ODIN dont matter with version 1.85 / 3.04 both work fine 2 patience 3 original GB AND ICS firmware which you can either ( A ) grab off xda or android authority ot theunlckr websites or others just in case you f**k up and ( B ) once again your choice i personally like this phone due to low budget very very stable regardless of what you choose to do with it it's running the same variants as the SGS2 ( the S3 chip dual core 1.5 ghz scorpion processor and the qualcomm snapdragon adreno GPU chipset etc etc ) so if you want something that is basically the S2 in a smaller package go with the blaze it's an outstanding little phone and it takes a beating when it comes to drops scuffs etc ( i have a ballistic case and Armorsuit MilitaryShield screen protection on it ) ( amazon both for about 24 bucks + S/H ) but again your choice have a good thought cap
that and you can download a Voldswap.zip off XDA that switches the 1.4 gig space to say what mine is i have 32gigs of internal space right now
Thanks for the responses! I'm sold, will be picking one up off eBay when I see a decent price/condition unit. Personally I prefer iOS devices, but I'm slowly warming up to Android. I'm an avid Game Boy collector and currently I can only use the official rfgeneration collection app on Android. Makes it much easier to access my game collection while in thrift stores.

Oh I'll likely go through eBay anyway. I'm extremely careful with my phones, and I don't have monthly phone insurance. I'll likely leave it at home and use my Vibrant until I buy an Otterbox to put it in.
Thru the last 3 years ive had a Vibrant, Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, and i had a Nexus 4 8GB for a day, then i sold it on craigslist for $480 (made $140) and picked up a "like new" Galaxy S Blaze for $140 from craigs the same day
Why you should buy one?
1. It has the fastest Internet chip that T-Mobile supporst for the moment - HSPA+ 42Mbs
2. Same processor and internals like Galaxy S2
3. 4" Screen, i do love that, i think anything bigger is too much for a phone.
4. Price, its very well priced, you can pick one up from T-Mobile prepaid site right now for $299+tax but includes a $50 prepaid card that you can use if you on prepaid account, or sell for $40 to someone on eBay bringing the cost to about $270...
If you dont mind the larger screen, an LG Optimus for only $199+tax and free shipping iits a better choise, looks almost like Nexus 4, and you buy ut directly from T-Mobile... heres a link:
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phone/LG-Optimus-L9-Prepaid
buy one, trust me, ive been thru all those phones, and when i sold my Nexus 4 i knew what i want, i wanted a Blaze, cus i knew it supports tge fastest internet for the moment and has 4" screen.
use it for a year or two, and buy a next generation LTE enabled Android phone... and that if you are on a 4G plan... if ypu arent you probably dont care anyway.
I have one in hand now. I'm browsing cases on Amazon, thinking of either a Ballistic, Cimo, or Duo. Now I just need to eBay my Vibrant after I get a case on this new one.

Go in T-Mobile store and try one of there cases, they are very good, $24.99 but if you receive your bill at home you should have one of those 30% off cupons of any accessory in one of them...
I personaly dont use any case cu si like the phone as it is and dont want to add any bulk, but ive tried one of those and they are great, try one if you have a store near by.
