you still gotta pay a $50 deductible and you're supposed to send them the phone back if its not lost or stolen. i imagine if it came up missing they would

I believe it does but you would have to pay a deductible.
Heres a link to their site with more info:
http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/basics/choosing-features-services/wireless-insurance.jsp
If its lost or stolen, then you need to file a police report.
it covers everything ... but you pay the deductible ... i believe it is 125$ for the inspire.
Thanks for the responses guys! That deductible sounds like a @#%&

its based on the actual cost of the phone i believe ... (company cost not customer cost)
I actually just did an insurance claim on my inspire. ***** pushed me in a pool and had my inspire in my pocket and fried it instantly. They will have you call an 800 number to process your claim, in which they will ask you questions on the condition of your phone. They will mail you a brand new, non refurbished phone in the mail, which takes a couple days to arrive in the mail. Once received, you will have to mail your original phone back using the same box your new phone came in. You have 10 days to send in your old phone before additional charges apply. A deductible of $125 will be charged to your account.

SPOBI. They always try refurbished devices first, if none are available then you may get a new one.
And technically cosmetic damage is not covered...usability has to be impacted. That's not to say you can't make a case for some software issue haha....
Whatever you do remember that you can only have 3 claims in any 12 month period.

Get the best buy blacktie protection plan. Covers pretty much everything and NO DEDUCTIBLE. And it's always a new phone they give you. They don't have refurbished phones to give.

are you sure best buy gives brand new phones??
i was told they deal with the same company as att ?
Do you have to buy it from Best Buy?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Best Buy's Black Tie Covers all damage that affects the usability of the phone. So not just some light scratches unless you prove it keeps you from using your phone properly. It does not cover loss, theft, or total submersion in water (how that's supposed to proven, I dunno). The phone is sent out as a "rapid-exchange" where you'll have a refurbished phone in your hands in 3-5 business days.
Before the new rapid-exchange system, it used to be that if the phone was not cost effective to fix, they would tell the store to give you a brand new one. This is no longer true as of recently.
EDIT: The phone does have to be purchased at Best Buy.. unless it is an iPhone and you have a receipt showing it was purchased new within 30 days.

Actually best buy gives you brand new phones. If they have the phone in stock they gladly just swap it out if you can reproduce the problem right then and there. No refurbs and no deductible. I think it's about 9 or 10 dollars a month.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
It's store manager discretion if they swap it out with a brand new one at BBY. Actual SOP is send out to be fixed and the customer is offered a loaner phone. If it takes 30 days or the repair is not cost effective (total destruction of phone or severe water damage) then the phone is replaced with new device.
The rapid Exchange process mentioned above is rolling out in waves by carrier at BBY. Currently only VZW is all rapid exchange, ATT is still 'send for service'.
The misinformation floating around astounds me...

I have the option to purchase squaretrade insurance/warranty for $99 since I bought from letstalk (instead of $124 by going directly to squaretrade).
I still don't understand how this works. Do you just pay the $99, then you can get a new phone even if you get something as simple as a small scratch on your current phone? Do you have to send the old phone back or can you just sell it for parts (assuming it's damaged).
I've never had phone insurance before, but I'm highly considering it because of the dust issue on the HTC sensations.
If you guys know of any other insurance, please let me know too. I've only had the phone 6 days so I have plenty of time to purchase insurance from anywhere.

Squaretrade does nothing if your phone gets lost or stolen. They cover just about everything else with a $50 deductible and roughly a 5 day turnaround.
The insurance t-mobile uses is Asurion and I have used them in the past. If you have a claim, you will need to go through Asurion for the claim and it takes 1 business day (T-mobile is not involved). Personally, I did receive my replacement on a Saturday after I filed a claim at 9PM on a Friday night. The big problem with Asurion is you only get 2 claims per 12 months and the Sensation has a deductible around $150 (it's still not listed on Asurion's site) plus a $5 fee.
The nice thing about Asurion is you get a replacement phone no matter what. Not to mention all they want back is the phone. You get to keep the accessories and battery from your old phone. They also will let you keep your old phone, but they charge another $250+ and it may be considered insurance fraud.
You can see the details on T-Mobile's site: http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm23694.xml

How hard would it be to swap the screen from a razr hd to the maxx version? And would it be a good idea to play the old switch-a-roo on insurance?
One week ago I cracked the interior glass of my razr maxx hd, rendering my screen useless. Thankfully I had insurance so I filed my claim online, which then had me call to complete, so I did, then the insurance lady asked me black or white? The maxx comes only in black I replied, she said oh well let me research this, and after minutes of being on hold she said okay that's been straitened out and it will be there on Monday. Now I should have asked her to double check the model, because Monday I got the razr hd, not the maxx. Called and explained the mix up and this time I did double check that they would send the maxx and they said yes. Next day a new phone arrived along with free crap, and the phone, it was a razr hd and not a MAXX HD. Calmly I called again and they told me that it was the correct device because the maxx was out of stock and it was my fault because I agreed to accept the next best thing. And for the life of me I can't think when or why I would have done that because I paid the $300 Verizon price, and those who own the maxx version know its hard to accept anything less. So now they had me send back one of the HD's in order to get a new phone shipped and that will take 10-15 days for them to mark it as back in stock, so that they can help me again.
That's bs- typical..u can write a letter and get a lawyer..lol
U should be able to swap the screens no problem thou
Maybe part out the rest
I know I could use a spare back cover for the reg RAZR HD

In short:
Broken s3, dropped with shattered screen, then the s3 sudden death syndrome so a device that 100% refuses to even acknowledge a charger plugged in via the wall.
Go to the website and file a claim.
Device has cosmetic damage, I give reason as "dropped phone" and moments later and told tomorrow i will get:
1. A new device
2. New battery
3. New factory charger
Called them to confirm this and a call center person (Indian sounded like) tells me:
1. The device is factory new, I ask and no it isn't refurbished.
2. It comes we whatever a factory new s3 comes with (sim card, charger, headphones)
3. It will be here tomorrow.
Edit: I can keep the old battery and back as well. So I ask "okay ill have two batteries now and two back case parts?"
Yes, he confirms...
So what? Did these guys lie their asses off to me and I can expect to get hosed tomorrow?
Or is there a chance they aren't as bad as people say now a days?
Well i guess we'll find out tomorrow

My wife is on her 3rd gs3 assurion gave her a new battery, back cover, sim card and charger each time with the phone. No headphones, and the only thing we sent back was the main phone itself, not the battery or cover and the replacements arrived within 24 his of claim. It was great service.
I will be using asurion soon myself. Not for my phone but for my daughter's. She cracked the screen the 2nd day she had it. The worst part is I didn't pay anything for the phone but I have to pay 50 for the deductible

Yessiree, $99.00... No tax.
I won't expect headphones but I was pretty much expecting to get screwed with all the horror stories I had read of used phones with third party parts coming back to people.
Actually verizon forced the insurance on me.
Last year I had five phones that were faulty.
On the month after the manufacturers warranty I had a screen that wouldn't light up on an htc Incredible2.
I elevated the complaint to verizon corporate and they gave me an s3 for the new contract price but said Insurance was mandatory as part of their compromise (wasn't upgrade eligible for 11 months.
So the verizon corporate relations person told me asurion sends new devices back in august when that transaction happened and it seems he was right.
ONE WORD OF CAUTION
If your damage happens over 30 days ago, just tell asurion it happened yesterday or today.
A verizon rep told me that asurion will deny claims with old damage but you can tell them anything you want to as to when it was broken.
Mine broke in January, then sudden death two weeks ago.
This isn't fraud in my eyes. I'm sending the broken one back.
Just as others have said I was told to send a shell of the phone. Anything that can be removed without a screwdriver I keep (sim card, sd card, original battery, back cover) ...

Of course you are really are paying for it with the deductible and the monthly fee. and no matter what assurion assures you of , you are getting refurb stuff, THey sent me 3 "new" phones before I finally got one that lasted for more than 2 days without rebooting on its own or failing entirely
So I have a Maxx HD. Love the phone. Unlocked the bootloader and slapped eclipse on there. Like feels finally complete because I've been rocking eclipse and the liberty roms since DROID X days... Then I went to the beach and did not practice proper phone maintenance when around salty damp areas. While I never dropped my phone in the water. It got moist around the charging port which I could eventually see green corrosion on the charging port.
So I gently cleans it off with a dry clean toothbrush and the port seemed to return to normal in that I could charge my phone again. However... Only with this one specific wall charger I have. Any other connection inserted into the port causes the phone to boot loop
So, now I I have a few sever cracks in the screen, I can't flash back to the stock firmware Sonic worried about sending the phone in to be repaired via the insurance I pay for... I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions I may try. I know it sounds bad but in was thinking of completely frying the phone some sort of way and then sending the device to my insurance carrier.
Any thoughts?

If you pay for insurance it should not matter. I have done many of claims with custom software on the phone, if it has physical damage, or it just does not work they will replace it, at least in my experience they will.
Well it definitely does matter. Att insurance won't warranty any accidental things 95% of the time. I use geek squad and this is my 4th phone all destroyed lol and all I've had to do is pay 10 bucks a month.

The point of paying for insurance is for accidental things, I was on ATT before verizon and insurance def had no issue letting me pay the deductible to replace my TP2 when I dropped it in the toilet (and I told them this), and it was running energyrom. With verizon, I have replaced a couple phones through Asurion, Cracked screen because a motor shaft swung into my leg at work (where my phone happened to be), another cracked screen from dropping it in the parkinglot when my daughter was born. This is with total coverage though, unless you are talking about some other kind of insurance I dont know of... I did not do anything but factory reset on any of the devices I returned (if I could) so they were all not running stock software, and it didn't matter.
All I know is I used to have att insurance and it was 9 bucks a month with a 125 deductible and they refused to replace my phone after I dropped it off of a roof.

So the phone is unusable? Why can't you just download a stock recovery, flash that, remove root, send it in?
I'd hate to see you have to lie and say the phone was lost. This type of activity drives insurance premiums up.
At least verizon let's people make twelve payments on full retail. But the phone is almost a year old so Def not worth it.
Maybe go to a repair place and get a quote, although I'm sure it will cost more than your deductible.
You could always sell it as is on ebay. Maybe buy a mediocre hd and swap batteries?
I had a galaxy nexus back in March. Fell out of my pocket and accidentally ran over it with my car. (yeah all because I bought some dumb slick case trying to protect it and look what happened). Anyway I spent many many hours trying to decide what to do. Do I spend a little over my deductible and repair the screen. Or do I send it in and risk being caught. And deal with the high liklihood of getting a problematic replacement (gnex had a lot of problems but still a great phone). I was able to connect my phone to a computer and un root it after returning to stock.
Does this charger you mention have a detachable cable? Maybe it will recognize your computer. Try more cables! I can't count the number of times where a different cable and computer makes a world of a difference.
I guess you'll just have to consider hitting it with a hammer a few times to ensure its unusable. I hate the fact that people even have to do that. It's total BS! I wonder how much money insurance companies have lost in customers damaging potentially reusable parts...
