My view on things... - T-Mobile LG G2x

I think that instead of recalling g2x phones they should offer the new tegra 3 phones soon to be conning out as compensation or a replacement phone.
I think that would be great and of course they would be loading money but they would have another chance to redeem themselves if they do happen to receive the tegra 3 platform.
By then I think that they should have a grasp on coding and drivers on tegra devices although these will be quad core cpus

They cant even do Tegra2 right. you expect them to do Tegra3 right?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App

In my last paragraph I started that by the time tegra 3 platform comes out they should have a handle on the tegra platform...and if they don't well...I wouldn't know what to say as far as their expertise and professionalism.

do you have any idea how much money LG would lose by doing this? Did toyota give new cars to everyone who had problems with their cars?
you think too much like a consumer... this idea would never even cross LG's mind

This is true but keys say a trade in.
Your phone + money for new
Tegra 3 phone
Of a price a little less than upgrade price would ensure done kind of profit along with reputation

Pass, I don't want another LG after this one. Mine actually works fine I have no issues with *knocks on wood*, but it's their handling of this that has turned me off, no more LG products for me.

This right here. I'm sticking with my G2x for a while(because I can't seem to stick with a phone and I wanna prove to myself I can ;_ but when the time comes, I'm probably gonna head on back to HTC. I've liked what I had from them so far.

i've been into smart phones for years. correct me if i'm wrong, but i can't recall one single time in smartphone history that consumers were given a completely different, newer phone to make up for the shortcomings of a previous phone. that would be insane. nice, but insane marketing.if it HAS ever happened, i'm sure it was over something more serious than the g2x's issues, such as.....??? i simply can't imagine it happening.

The hell with that i want double my sufferings, i want quad core phone with fm transmitter!!
Faux123 for dev!!!

And I want a million dollars along with a Saleen 7 + a job which gives me 5 months paid holidays while I'm also getting a T3 phone as a compensation.
P.S. I love my phone. So please do excuse my sarcasm.

Bye. My touch 4g, it's been almost a year, we had an awesome run, and your still one of my favorites, but Ive moved on to the g2x, and I haven't had any of the problems other are experiencing , this is a pretty awesome phone and I don't regret it, but if a new mytouch from HTC comes out ill be sure to go with that, until then ill be rocking the g2x.

Enjoy Is it really the fast and that nice?
That is one of the phones I am contemplating jumping ship for, how is LGs UI? You'll have to give a small review if you don't mind. Not sure if I want to go G2X or Sensation. Never owned an LG but I loooove HTC. Either way, good luck with the new phone.

Thanks guys, as for the phone itself its awesome I'm running bionix2, so I didn't really get accustomed to the stock UI, the screen itself is larger so typing is easier, and the colors seem allot deeper, I do miss my led notification light but that can be replaced with mods to the capasitive buttons (someone will come up with that), and the sensation is actually running a older processor arm a8 clocked at 1.2ghz vs the g2x arm a9 processer at 1ghz, so its actually better to get the g2x, I haven't had any problems and the update will fix any bugs, and by the time the sensation comes out the update will be released so either way I'm good.

I've been thinking of doing the same. I'm so fed up with HTC's lack of quality control that I've been looking at picking up a used Vibrant.
I love this device but after 7 phones, FINALLY getting a perfect phone and now a few months later having dust under the screen the romance is gone.

I feel EXACTLY the same way. Took my 5 phones to get to my perfect good screen then one month later dust under the top left corner of my screen.... And it's just getting worse. I love HTC but they quality control is horrendous. I don't care what people say about Samsung and their quality, but they make damn god phone's whether it's plastic or not. I've been trying to trade my phone for a Nexus S just because of this.
No problems here...
This is very interesting to read the users on this forum have exchanged their MT4G seven times. I have had absolutely no problems with my phone and I purchased it when it was released.

I got mine when it came out and it has the crap screen, but that was the only problem. But a few weeks ago i got a deal on one i couldn't pass on,with the good screen. I might sell that one, but i got a bad habit of keeping all my phones. Lol
I agree with the OP too, don't get the sensation. The CPU in it is actually outdated and QualComm already has a Quad-Core CPU in the works. Go with a Mali device or Tegra 2/3 .
G2x is quality control isn't that good either. My G2x has the worst LCD I've ever seen. It bleeds from all 4 corners and the battery only last 8 hours. I am running my own aosp rom.

So definitely no Samsung products for you, since they make more differentiating products than any manufacturer. The G2x is having problems, just go look at their forums, but a patch is coming out soon that should alleviate the problems, except for the LCD bleeding.
I have to say, a ton of LG Optimus Ts get sold I have never had to do troubleshooting on one. I would say most calls are about HTC or Motorola products. In my own personal experience of troubleshooting, I'd say the manufacturers that make many different products seem to have the least problem phones, when compared to the phone only manufacturers.

You are correct. I would not own a samsung phone either...they should stick with televisions. Also, look at the time the G2X came out. To think that it was worth upgrading from the glacier with the next wave of great phones coming out shortly is just silly.

The people with a good G2x, which is most, absolutely love their phone and the patch should fix the rest. Remember HTC made the HD2 and Motorola made the Cliq & Cliq XT. I cringe when I hear someone having a problem and I know exactly which line has the problem because one of the 3 phones above are the culprit. 1
Even with the G2x issues, LG and Samsung have a better track record than Motorola and HTC is problems with phones.
That may be true, they may love their phones. But to buy the G2X when the next big wave is about to come out makes no sense to me whatsoever. It is like purchasing a 2010 Ferrari a month before the 2011 comes out. (I use that example because smart phones are usually the same price, and that is a car where the price is not an issue). And as for the quality issue, I have never had an issue whatsoever with an HTC phone. I am a firm believer that 99% of the issues are user related. Like the guy who had 7 Mt4G's that wouldn't wake up on the stock ROM..c'mon now..
I loved HTC until recently. Had a flawless mt3g for almost a year and sold it for exactly what I paid for it. Here's the history with my glaciers.
1. Dust under screen.
2. Mushy power button and bad screen.
3. Bad screen.
4. Loud click from bottom.
5. Less loud click.
6. Keeper.
Three months later I have massive dust under screen.
7. Bad screen.
8. Mushy power button, scuffed up, bad emmc chip.
9. Bad screen.
At this point I gave up. I'm staying with #6 and shopping for a used Vibrant.

Like I said, you may be right. Maybe I just got lucky to get a good phone. I have had absolutely no issues. Good screen, good emmc chip, no dust under screen. I just associate LG with crappy products. I still would have waited for the Sensation.

What phones are coming out that outdo it? The G2x will get 2.3 very soon and has a tegra 2 processor that won't be outdone by the Sensation's chip. It may be faster processing speed(200Mhz) but many think the Tegra 2 processor is still faster than the Qualcomm.
You'll choose the Sensation if you want a 4.3" screen and the G2x if you want a 4" screen. They're made for different people, with speed and abilities being pretty well equal. The next jump won't happen until this fall with the quad-core processors.

Yes, I will be going after the Hercules providing it doesn't have a Quallcom or Tegra 2. Samsung is innovating more than any other Android manufacturer right now and I will give my money to them for it. At this point their making some of the best displays, best mobile memory and best CPU's. They have also been updating like crazy lately.
Oh, and by the way. Your thread should be getting closed any minute now. There is a certain mod here who doesn't like when people talk about getting rid of his favorite phone.

I'm always looking for the next greatest, but I think I'll stick with my G2X until the nexus 3 launches. This LG nonsense has taught me to stick with pure google cause manufacturers can be counted on for ignoring you after the sale.
Knowing about the AT&T take over, my plan was to buy a G2x outright and then use my upgrade within a year to lock me in to a price point.
I don't know about the Hercules. Sure it is a nice phone but a side step mostly. Kinda like the Nexus one to the nexus S. Both the G2x and SGS2 are great phones but neither warrant an upgrade over the other.... at least not worth paying money for. As a free upgrade I'd take one but not for another $200 or so.
I'll probably wait until after the new year and see what becomes available. My G2x is a beast of a phone and I have zero issues with it.

What am I crying about? What does having money or selling phones have anything to do with what I said? If that comment was meant towards myself, I held onto my G2X months after getting my Sensation and I still have my Nexus One. I sell my old phones after realizing I have no real use for them.
Thanks for proving my point though. I knew someone would. And by the way. I still have my G2X since the only jack ass who bid on the phone was a user with zero feedback and still hasn't paid. Looks like nobody even wanted it for $280. I may have overpriced it! At this point Ill probably just hold onto it if nobody here wants it. What's the point of selling it when I'm going to take a $300 hit. If that's the case, ill just keep it so I can still play the Nvidia games.

Here in the house ill be struggling with this personally. I came from the iPhone then captivate(swore last purchase EVER from Sammy) then nexus one then mytouch4g then nexus s then s4g then g2x. Now that being said. I still use the g2x my wife uses my nexus s and I kept the s4g around as a spare. Oh I forgot the HTC hd2. I have a real issue going to Samsung again. The captivate reallllly soured me and the nexus s was not a.large upgrade IMO over current market phones when it arrives. Its value was Google.
The debate for me is Hercules power or nexus 3 which is very likely to be Samsung produced as well but will at least be Google updated.

Meh, the extra RAM doesn't mean much to me and I couldn't care less about storage space. As for screens, the G2X's is perfectly fine.
My next phone is probably going to be around the time when ICS comes out. I'm thinking 1.5 GHz dual core, maybe something in quad-core. And 1.5 GB ram, maybe 2. A significant jump is really what I'm aiming at here.

The Nexus S 4G (which wasn't really different), so I did do a bit of keyboard-in-mouth, for a minute there I did forget the Nexus S came out on T-Mobile first. Tired.
I came from the Nexus One, bought the G2x off-contract, specically to be able to pick up the Nexus Prime at a discount.
I just hope the nexus prime won't disappoint. Rumors on specs are mixed. The qualcomm chips in the Tmo SG2 and Amaze are meh. Also 5mp camera is meh.... other specs say it'll have the Exynos chipset and 8mp cam. Some say Verizon will get it first others say T-Mobile. Verizon has the Droid Prime with similar specs already and aren't ones to keep it clean with Android.
Either way, if the specs are worthwhile over the G2x, I'll grab it.
Best solution for me personally would be Verizon with sweet specs as my old work blackberry needs upgraded and I set up our new exchange to work properly so my company is allowing Android sets now... meaning I can kill my $70 personal T-Mobile line, sell my G2x and profit.

I know everyone wants the latest and greatest, but sometimes it's a bit overkill. Unless you have a good job with 500+ bucks to throw I don't see why we should be running to get the Prime when you already have a Tegra 2 Dual core device. Nothing can even tough this device yet.
It'd be hard for me to dump my dual core device for another dual core. At this point might as well wait for whatever the next gen quads come out next year. And once that happens, I don't even know what we'd do with a quad core lol.

Lol, I seriously think they should just take a break on the progression of processors, screens, GPU's, etc. and use that time and man power in advancing the technology of battery's... That's literally the only Achilles heel that even the best smartphone's have these days.
At this point, I'd rather have the creation of a 5,000 mAH battery with out changing it's size than a quad core processor.

Agreed ten fold. I'm waiting til the Nexus Double Prime before I plan to upgrade. This phone is doing just fine, and has a very nice set of developers working on it for us.
If they did make quad core phones, I bet the battery life would be at least 20% worse than now. When I'm not even getting super amazing battery life to begin with, it might be a problem.

Yeah, main difference between the two will be updates. Something the G2X will probably never officially see. After the half ass 2.3 update we got I'm pretty much over it.
....
I really don't see the point of quad core phones; unless Google does something unbelievable with Jelly Bean that needs an insane amount of processing, nothing a smartphone does needs that much. Hell, dual core isn't even that necessary unless you run a lot of 3D stuff.
There is such a thing as overkill people. I'd like to see phone manufactorers declare the smartphone as it exists now finished and start working on some new innovations that would make better hardware necessary. 3D screen ala Nintendo 3DS with FFC capable of eye-tracking to orient the 3D so you see it at any angle?
While I agree that the G2x can hold its own, I do miss owning a nexus device. My friend still has his Nexus One and running official software we can only get via custom roms.
My reasoning to grabbing the Nexus Prime IF if launches on Verizon is so my work can pay for it. Unfortunately I heard Verizon is launching the Galaxy Prime.... which is similar but not the nexus prime backed by Google.
Well just have to wait until Tuesday. All the rumors running around its hard to make any reasonable decision.
If Verizon gets gimped on Google support then I'll keep my G2x for a long while.

See, I'm not too upset with LG. Admittedly, the G2x isn't the best phone. I won't be the fanboy to indefinitely and baselessly defend LG, NVidia, or their products. But I think a lot of the bad rep the the three have gotten is a little picky. My phone is blazing fast, even faster than my old Sensation, has absolutely superior build quality, screen is great, dev community is pretty decent, etc. I understand people dislike NVidia and LG for their support and that's totally understandable. I've been a huge fan of my G2x; I've had ZERO issues since I bought it. No screen bleed, nothing.
You can count me in on this X3. I own a number of LG products. Hell, I even swapped my flat screen when a newer model came out. LG always improves upon their products, no matter how ****ty the first model. I've been more than content with my G2x and I'll trust LG on their next device. If the dev community suffers because of their negligence, however, it'll be on to the GN.
Ehhh. No im not going to get a device which will be EOL'd in less than a year. The G2X hasnt been around for a year since the release and they eold it before the samsung viberant if im correct. Im buying samsung or htc next.

I just can't believe how easy it was for them to give us a poop update to 2.3 instead of just revamping and fixing the little issues that 2.2 had (mainly data issues for me) I didn't have many issues either and my phone is incredibely dast, faster then my friends Amaze 4G, not overclocked. I want to root his phone and put AOSP on it, he isn't down lol. I just like the metal feel of most HTC phones, and the fact that they put out minor patches and seem to care about their phones that they put out. The G2X needs multiple little patches that has been ignored, LG states over and over that our phone 2X series line will be updated, I want stability over all not major upgrades. the whole time they working (5-7 months on ICS they could put out little patches for 2.3.... #HUGERANT lol
Laughing My Arse Off! They said they learned from their mistakes!
I learned from my mistake!
NVIDIA NEVER AGAIN!
I wouldn't buy an lg gun to shoot myself with. Jk this might be worth a try as a second phone.

I feel the same, I was on the fence on the G2X, I had zero consumer confidence in LG at that time, I was also pressured when the phone was released as my wife was waiting for my MT3GS, I really wanted to wait for the sensation, waiting now for the next good HTC phone to release or possible Nexus if it comes to Tmo

What's wrong with a quad core clocked @ 1.2GHz? You do realize how fast that is, right?
So the problems double.

Why believe them? They would do more for their crappy reputation if they just updated their existing dual core phones now to ICS. The LG X3 is just another scam. Promises, promises, promises, all broken. No more confidence in LG which sucks big time. BTW, Americans and Canadians gave their lives to prevent the Communists from taking over South Korea so that capitalism flourishes in S. Korea so that companies such as LG can exist. LG is a despicable company dishonouring the sacrifices of Americans and Canadians and the virtually free trade which S. Korea enjoys accessing the North American market which it doesn't appreciate. I have an uncle who volunteered for the U.S. army during the Korea conflict and he says that the sacrifice wasn't and isn't worth it because S. Korea plays the trade game one way, their way only, because they don't allow the same access to their market as North America does. Shame on LG for abusing us.
Now I for one would say LG dropped the ball on the g2x however look back to Samsung's and HTC's first phones. All of these companies dropped the ball on there phones. Hopefully LG will understand the higher demand for support for there higher end phones. This was there first attempt in this higher end android market. They failed but so did HTC and Samsung.

How long.

So how long do y'all think the g2x it's good for. I mean were going to have to get rid of it one day.

Very true, it's an awesome phone.

If the O2x gets an official ICS update and is ported to G2x, this phone will be good for 1-2 more years. Its somewhat future-proof even though it got EOL'ed and no driver support from nVidia.
If you ate unpatient, summer of fall would be a good time to upgrade. Maybe HTC One S. Maybe SGS3 or G4x or Nexus if TMO gets em.
Or go with an unlocked alternative.

Great perspective!
I would almost trade my g2x for another g1 if I didnt have 1 already for the kids to play on. Crazy how the g1 is still rockin out 4 yrs later even with ics, thanks to our awesome devs.

Honestly, this is one of the best phones to this date. The processor is fast, the hardware is great, and the community made it into an even better phone.
If it doesn't get ICS, I'll probably get a phone that does by Summer. If it does, probably by Winter/Xmas. Its a great phone and I love it, but I feel the need for a slightly bigger screen. 4.3 inches would be great, 4.5 if the reso is atleast qHD. Also, this phones specs still compete with some of today's high end, like coming out with a front facing VGA camera, or just an LCD instead of a IPS display.

There's some things about the g2x that will be outdated for sure come this summer or even fall/winter. But, the hardware on the inside is so good that I can see myself using this phone for 1-2 more years really. I am also still a believer that nVidia will also release the drivers eventually. I am probably crazy for thinking this but I think its gonna happen. In which case this will be the new g1. The phone that is crazy good quite possibly forever.

Cellphones have become miniature PCs, and just like Desktop or laptop PCs the only reason to upgrade is when new "must have" software comes out that needs more processing power, and what's been driving this need to upgrade to more powerful computer hardware has always been videogames.
This will very much be the case with the G2x, at the moment the power potential of this cellphone has only begun to be tapped into. The G2x can push almost any videogame and app on the market at high enough frames per second to give an immersive experience. And within the coming year, developers will have plenty of experience programming for the Tegra 2 that games that have been in development for sometime now will blow you away when it's released, and this knowledge of the Tegra architecture will trickle down to less demanding software apps that will also have that "wow!" factor.
I say about 2 more years before videogame developers tap out the power of Tegra 2, before they start coming out with games and apps that will require the more powerful Tegra 3.

Couldn't agree more. However, the only bottleneck is the 512 RAM imho.
