Being as my Arc has a fairly decent camera and knowing what HTC's normal camera quality is like. Would changing from the Arc to the Sensation be a big step down in this area? Same goes on the video recording side of things?

Pathetic camera believe me,just like the one on N1,Desire HD.
Really it's a big big step down if you are moving from Arc{such a great camera phone} to this rubbish HTC one{HTC are pathetic in this area,multimedia sucks big time in HTC}

Video is the best of the bunch, better than any tegra phone or GSII ( Jelly cam exists there ). [email protected] 30fps with stereo sound, u couldnt get any better from a phone
I'm very impressed with the camera on it. Taken some great shots so far and the touch to focus feature is very cool.

Just a troll from GSII forum, let him pass by
I already see an HTC troll as well, claiming the SGII has a "jelly cam" but somehow the Sensation does not. Where is the roach spray? You have to clean your own litterbox before accusing stray turds from another forum.

But it's a phone guys If you do want a good camera, buy a real camera. There are always going to be limits on what they put in a phone

You're still jumping the gun. Photo 1 is 5MP. The others are 8MP. Numbers 2 and 3 look good. 4 is in very low light without flash. High ISO isn't good on many digital cams let alone phones.

So I was watching the review for the MT4G Slide and it seems that the camera is close to the same with some differences i.e. sweep shot, burst mode... all that. SO I'm pretty sure with this being a Sense 3.0 device that we can port this gem over and have just as good as a 8mp cam as the MT4GS in terms of features. Any news on a leak of the ROM? I think it leaked to the EVO months ago, but that seemed like a buggy pre-release...
Here's the video review.
http://www.youtube.com/embed/6t3W-sbgy-Y
From what I heard it's a mixture of hardware and software that gives the camera it's capabilities. I hope I'm misinformed though.
There is a lot of hardware differences. There is hardware back lighting of the lens. Also there are different lens. So I don't think the app will work with our camera, but you can download other camera apps that provided all of those shooting modes.
The MT4GS has a backlit image sensor, and has a fixed aperture @ 2.2. I haven't the slightest clue what a back light on the imager will do, but I do know that a wide aperture of 2.2 will give better low light performance, and should provide decent blur/bokeh for a camera phone. The software itself seems extremely similar to what we have as our phones can capture an image with almost zero shutter delay as well. It's the way they're marketing it that makes it sound that much better than ours, but in practice both the Thunderbolt and the sensation snap pictures almost instantly. Be sure to disable the image review for the absolute fastest shot to shot performance.

Oh, I didn't know it had those. Very cool. Those should be doable on our phones as it's all software related.
I happen to own a MT4G Slide... have for quite some time. Unfortunately, due to several NDA's, I can't release anything information that we haven't made public via press release.
What I can say, is that hardware wise, here are the differences. MT4G Slide has a focal length of 3.69mm vs Sensation 4.31mm. It has focal ratio of f/2.2. For relevance, G2x is f/2.8, Galaxy S f/2.6 - (one reason why they take such good 'night' shots). The lens is huge.
Here is a really good article about BSI (Backside-Illumination)
http://www.cameratechnica.com/2011/06/23/technology-demystified-backside-illuminated-sensors/
Essentially, BSI aids in the delivery of more light vs a CMOS sensor with just frontside-illumination because the wiring sits below the lens as it protrudes from the back of the phone.
Software wise, I don't see why Panorama couldn't be ported, however HDR mode might require more hardware/software tweaks, as three shots are taken simultaneously, enabling/disabling certain hardware implementations.
Attached are two diagrams from the link above.. showing how light enters a frontside-illuminated lens (Sensation) vs a backside-illuminated lens (see how diagram looks like attached pic of MT4G Slide lens without cover)
Thanks for the input. They say a picture's worth a thousand words......
....all the ones I'm thinking are curse words though.

Haha, owning a Sensation myself (and obviously loving the screen) I have mixed emotions as well. Hell, I have issues deciding just between my G2x, Sensation, MT4G Slide.. well as daily drivers.. ..
Anyways, the Sensation will need to be on 2.3.4 to catch up
The panorama would be awesome. I remember when my old Sony Ericsson's had that option. Man it was great.

I've missed this phone ever since I got it stolen from me, and I recently got offered a very good condition one for $140. I love taking pictures, and my Sensation has a trash camera. I also love the QWERTY slider, but I do recall it not being that fantastic. Do you think I take the deal and switch over from the Sensation? Or am I just imagining that the MT4GS had a far, far superior camera. From what I remember, it literally took photos as good as or better than my girlfriend's iPhone 4S. I figure I could sell the Sensation and get the Slide with that money. Or should I just wait for the next good slider to come out?

Honestly, depends on what ROM your running. If I remember correctly the Sensation and MT4GS have the same camera hardware. The difference was in the software. If you're running a stock based ROM, the camera will be much better. If you're running an ICS/JB ROM then I don't think you'll notice much of a difference.
The keyboard itself is something you get used to. I've had an HTC Tilt and a Tilt 2. Nothing will be the Tilt 2's keyboard, but the MT4GS's isn't bad. Just takes a week to get accustomed to it.
If won't buy the phone please tell your friend to sell it to me I need a new MTG4S badly to continue my projects for this device.

The MT4GS camera is better than the 4S. They have similar hardware (the backside illumination 8MP sensor) but the imaging chip and software that HTC put in the MT4GS set it above the Sensation and the iPhone 4S. But, as someone else pointed out, you'd need to run a stock ROM like Miktouch to have those benefits.

iPhone 4S actually uses the Samsung sensor that some of our phones use. We have either the Samsung or Sony sensor. Mine is using the Sony. Both are comparable, but the Sony has a very slightly higher pixel density (8.13MP vs. 8MP). But I think HTC outdid Apple on the image processor and software.
Let's call Fuzi, "The master of stability". You've earned it, man!
So who wants it and (why) also who doesn't want it and (why), I REALLY WANT IT just cuz it is AMAZING from all the vids I've watched by Phonedog but as many others wonder WHY htc doesn't do any commercials anymore or even for this phone in which they are themselves calling their 'Flagship'?

It does indeed look quite interesting but...
Why not: I got my S just recently, and Im not the sort of person who switches phone just because something newer and better came out.
Why not: The S have no issues performance-wise, and I doubt it will anytime soon. There will always be something newer and better, thats just the way works.
Why: Im a geek, the geek in me wants the newest stuff, even though I have no use for it
No,because HTC chips itself.
No,because HTC has ****ty updates.
No,because it has 4mp camera.
No,because no sd card place.
My next phone will be Sony Xperia Z(waterproof, hard to scratch,13mp camera,up to 64gb sdcard)simply beautiful.
The only thing One has better than the Z is the processor.

Your other points have merit (aesthetics aside -- "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and all that), but this I'm honestly curious about. What do you really think you can do with > 4 MP in a mobile phone camera? What do you gain? Myself, I'd rather have 4 MP pictures that are clear and capture well in low-light than 10+ MP pictures that are underexposed or grainy. If HTC can deliver significantly better looking pictures with fewer pixels, I'm all for it. If Sony or anyone else can match or beat that quality with more MP, then so much the better. But panning a camera simply because "it's only 4 MP" seems silly.
I dont want it until he gets s-off

How would the photo quality be vs older phones 8mp camera like the HTC Sensation. I always hear talk about megapixels not being the main concern, so I wonder if I replaced an HTC Sensation with 8mp with the Moto G, if the photo quality would be on par or better due to difference of optics or focal size?
i recently upgraded to the Moto G from Sensation, and i think the quality is about the same.. However i think the colors are better on the Moto G but that may just be me.

Thanks for much for your reply! So you aren't dissatisfied with the camera coming from the Sensation, right?
Yeah im definitely satisfied with the camera.:good::good:
I also feel that Moto G takes it's shots faster, but that can just be because i had a buggy rom on my sensation.
I always thought my Sensation took great pictures, with pretty fast shutter speed. If this is relatively similar, I could live with that.
I set my mother in law up with a nexus 4, coming from a sensation, and she asked me why it takes longer to take a picture.

I think the camera is terrible. Granted, I'm coming from an iPhone 5, but still. I'm pretty sure it's also worse than the Galaxy Nexus, which was no gem either.
My Moto G camera is so bad that I start thinking it's faulty. Needs perfect conditions and fair amount of luck to take a decent photo.
Video slows down at times so it's practically unwatchable. My phone is Tesco UK branded. Even my three year old Galaxy Note's camera seems totally different league.

No, it's not, I own both.
The main problem of the MotoG camera is the noise reduction and blurring, but this is done in software.
I modded the cam app and made test photos in stock condition (filename with NR) and the same photo with my modded cam app without noise reduction.
The chip is able to get decent details but the software blurs the sh*t out of it

I wouldn't say, it is generally worse than RZi.
Both cams are mid range, MG has by far(!) more capabilities in the dark, whereas RZi has some more detail in bright light condition.
The camera needs an update. Those pics are clearly being ruined by crappy software.

Currently I have a Sensation as well, and very strongly considering to buy the Moto G. My only concern is indeed the camera, which needs to be decent because no one is going to walk around all day with an DSLR. A Dutch review of the Moto G contains some pictures made with it, and those look pretty bad to me: Sample pics
Let's hope it's something software-wise which can be fixed with another app or through an update.

As much as I hope it could be the software, I just think its the sensor or w/e.
Surely they would've ensured the software worked well to produce decent pictures after the Moto X backlash, which they fixed.
Hey maybe I'm totally wrong who knows maybe the next Camera update will tweak the camera and its app.
Photos may improve too when gogole allows raw images through their new api they're working on, which should improve quality.
Thread here with pictures, they dont look that bad but majority were taken under decent lighting.
