I'm very tempted to sell my Sensation to get an Amaze.
The backlight sensor and dedicated camera buttons sound SO useful, not to mention the extra bit of RAM and the proc as well.
It's somewhat tempting, but I'll easily be able to hold it off since I will never get a LCD screen phone again.

CPU is the same as sensation just that for sensation, HTC decided to under clock to 1.2 instead of 1.5GHz which is native speed for this chip. Camera sensor seemed to be the same but the software drivers is upgraded to user zero shutter lag zsl drivers to enable faster photography.
So the real improvement is the extra button and more physical ram.

Yeah but isn't the t mobile sgsII basically the same soc that's in our sensations but with a bigger lower Res amoled screen with more ram? It feels fast but with the nexus around the corner IMHO neither are worth the money when the phone they all will try and be is almost here.

You would really miss sense 3..
Nope. Waiting for Snapdragon S4 phones. Should be 30-50% faster than current A9 phones.

I don't use sense on my sensation so I wouldn't be missing much. I would rather have a thin light device. The vibrant was a keeper only reason I got rid of it is because of the launch of dual cores. I won't be paying $500 so it will be a upgrade for me regardless. 16gb onboard and 32gb plus that and I always wanted a 4.5in screen ever since I seen the infuse.

+1 on the vibrant, I would have never sold if the g2x hadn't come out. After having a nexus s, I'm sick of carrier subsidized don't know who will warranty it bull****, and want a Google unbranded phone again. Nothing beats next day updates like a nexus. That being said if somebody wants to trade me a T-Mobile sgII for my sensation plus some cash let me know.

IDK the Amaze looks kinda like a jacked up MT4G.The only phone i would give up my Sensation for is the PRIME "maybe" but only for ICS.Im not a big fan of samsung.I bought an sgs2 and after a few hours i wanted to smash it with a hammer.Felt like a toy in my hand.Gave it to my girl and apoligized to my Sensation
I am in the same boat, I am really wanting something different from my Sensation, but am lost on what to get... The Amaze seemed cool at first, but with the points I have seen, it is not worth it. I think I will go the Galaxy route, as well, since I love the sheer size of the screen.
BUT, I really want to get the Nexus or a WP7 phone. Tmobile seems to have just dropped off the WP7 wagon, and pushed all its resources to Android. The only phone that I have "heard" that will be coming out is the HTC Bresson, and who knows what will happen with it. The new Mango update seems to have attracted me enough, and I love the stability of WP7.
Any ideas how the timeline for the Nexus and possibly how better it will be then these current gen devices?
Amaze is not what I'm looking for, but maybe the Nexus Prime...
really wish they would let HTC make another Nexus device because I HATE samSUCK
Yea, Id go for a nexus prime, but something tells me it will cost a hell of a lot more than I could get for my Sensation. I have the dust issue, so I could call in a care package.
How much were those nexus phones when they first showed up?
Matt
Nope, the changes on Amaze are too marginal. If I were contemplating an upgrade, it'd have to have significant improvements over the Sensation.

Thats what I figured... Guess its a toss up between the SGII and the Nexus.
I'm thinking about it. The Amaze has a bigger battery, but thats not really a big deal since you can buy a larger one for the Sensation. Some of what I've read says the processor is actually different (S3 in the Amaze vs MSM in the Sensation), not to mention the little bit of extra RAM. Also, the Amaze features NFC (Near Field Communications) which the Sensation does not have at all and might be fun to have on hand since its a developing technology. The Amaze also has a 2 MP front facing camera, whereas the Sensation only has a 0.3 MP VGA camera.
I just bought my Sensation last week on a whim since my old Blackberry finally died not knowing there were two more coming out right around the corner. I can still return and go to the Amaze easy enough, so I'm seriously thinking about it.

The Sensation has the same processor. Just underclocked.

The only thing that excited me there, was the front facing camera. And yes, I would for sure take it back and get the Amaze, kind of a no brainer.
Would think about it only if the "amazing" devs we have in sensation develop for the amaze.

Is the Sensation an upgrade?
So I do like my Atrix but I have the chance to do a straight trade for a Sensation.
I love Sense and would like a better camera.
Atrix does have 16gb vs the Sensation and its 8gb card, but I hardly have any space used up on mine. Its just photos and apps that are taking space pretty much - maybe 4 songs.
I dont use webtop. I like knowing the Atrix has the HDMI out and for the sensation - it has the option to do it but you need to buy the adapter cable. As much as I like the thought of that feature, I havent even used it yet lol.
I know the battery life on the Atrix is obviously better. I would buy a spare battery for the Sensation though and just keep it in my wallet just in case, like I used to do with my Motorola Milestone. The battery isnt very big.
Both have the same resolution and qhd.
The ROM support on the Atrix is lacking, and it looks very populated on the Sensation.
My girlfriend has the Desire which I have ROM'ed for her and its ROM support is very active and up to date for a phone of that age - I can expect the same for the Sensation?
Anything about the Atrix that is worth keeping over the Sensation?
Anything about the Sensation that should warrant the trade to it?
Thanks guys
Also I am Very worried abou the dust under screen issue I keep reading all over the internet about with this phone!
Right now the Sensation is pretty much brand new and hardly used, with no dust yet.
I wouldnt know how to prevent the dust from getting under there.
edit : Im in Canada, so the US provider war doesnt apply either lol
What is funny is that I was thinking of selling my Sensation and getting a Atrix... but my co-worker asked me if I was insane.
He then pointed me to level of ROM work being done for Sensation, HD, EVO, Inspire and said the development environment for this HTC lineup is far superior to the MOTO lineup.
However... i'd wait off buying an Atrix until google does what it wants with Motorola Mobile and see if Google can make a kick ass phone with great support.
Why were you thinking of going tot he Atrix?
Any more feedback?

I live in Canada and I made the exact same trade. I really enjoyed my Atrix but the bigger screen (and nicer screen) and better build quality of the Sensation was enough of a bonus to sacrifice the extra internal storage and extra ram of the Atrix. I never used the hdmi port on the Atrix and the lapdock got old very quickly. I have found battery life to be quite similar between the two devices, with a slight edge going to the Atrix. The dev community is much bigger for the Sensation and I like Sense infinitely better than Blur, which was another reason why I justified making the trade. I should mention that I managed to get some dust underneath the screen of my Sensation, but I work in a very dusty environment so it was my own stupid fault for using it. All in all, I'm happy with my decision. Hope this helps.
I think I may be leaning towards the trade now. I do feel bad about my phone case though, I got a kiwi Ringke casefor the atrix that I love but they don't have them for the sensation yet.

As the title states, I've switched from the Galaxy S II (T-Mobile variant) to the Sensation. While most people might say why would you do such a thing hear me out first. I was offered $200 cash and a mint condition Sensation with all accessories included for my GSII and I needed cash (Christmas to blame) .
I am honestly impressed with the Sensation. Browser scrolling is a million times faster and smoother than the GSII, the screen looks gorgeous on the Sensation (no pixelation at all thanks to QHD). The only thing I miss with the GSII is the gorgeous video/picture quality and louder speaker. Surprisingly I've noticed that my data connection is even better.
I also love that the dev community is larger over here.
EDIT: I've owned a Sensation 4g when it first came out and had nothing but hell with it. This Sensation doesn't overheat, doesn't have signal issues or screen issues like the one I had way back. I love this phone.

Interesting to get a proper comparison between the two from somebody will actual experience (instead of the 'my dad could bash your dad' type comments we usually see).
I looked at the GSII before getting my sensation and generally didn't like the feel of it in my hand. That might sound like a lame reason but in reality there isn't much difference in the hardware, and software / firmware is pretty much irrelevant once you root it
I've been playing around with my mother in laws Tmobile SGII, and there are definitely pros and cons to both.
I love the screen size of the Samsung. It's damn near perfect in that regard. And let's not even talk about the black level and colors. They both outclass the sensation. But the resolution jump is definitely noticeable on the sensation. I'd love the Samsung screen with higher resolution.
As far as speed and smoothness goes, sometimes the Samsung is kinda choppy and slow. The sensation seems a bit zippier to me sometimes. Both stock.
But, if given the chance to trade for a Samsung.......I'm not so sure I wouldn't.

The Sensation and the Galaxy S2 came out around the same time to go against each other and both are really good phones. Sucks that we had to wait until 2 months ago for the S2 to come to the states, if not then I would have probably gotten the S2. But then again I've always been an HTC person and love the build quality on their phones. But one thing, I've been following the Sensation since the pyramid rumors and really couldn't give up.

The GSII outshines this phone in just about every department spec wise. Larger battery (1850 mah with NFC chip), 2mp front cam, louder speaker, etc. Also maybe its just me but the screen on this phone doesn't feel as sensitive as my GSII did when texting on the keyboard.
I AM NOT BASHING THIS PHONE IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM!
On another note, I do love how optimized the software is. TouchWiz was a little choppy and laggy for me. Sense 3.0 feels so smooth. I also love having a led flash even though there's alternative apps that can serve as a notification for the GSII. I am even more than grateful for our dev community (even though my phone isn't rooted yet). I think the screen size on the Sensation is just right. The GSII's screen was a little too. Wide and long for my fingers. The phone would often hurt my fingers trying to pull down the notification bar for example. Users with larger hands would love the GSII's screen real estate. I love both phones equally.

I do notice that the Sensation has the dead grip issue, which most phones have. With GSII I didn't really notice the issue at all. The Sensation seems to be loading web pages significantly faster than the GSII. I don't believe all the hype about 42mbps (GSII) vs 21mbps (Sensation) although the GSII was no slouch when it came to browsing the net in well covered areas.
EDIT: Merry Christmas to you too.

I do admit that a 4 inch screen as Arron (from Phonedog) would say "is the sweet spot". My old Vibrant and Nexus S made me realize this quickly. The benefit of that extra .3 inch is more screen for viewing, but I honestly wouldn't mind buying a super phone with a 4 inch screen.

The GSII is relevant commercial wise. Check out the dev community and see which device is more relevant. We have a couple different ICS roms working already. The GSII has none. We have more devs and that's not just because this phone was released earlier, I believe timing played apart of it. This phone was released around the time of the G2x and a lot of people didn't want to take a chance with LG so they chose this phone instead.
EDIT: That's like saying the HD2 or G1 isn't relevant anymore when those 2 phones have one of the largest dev community. Just cause you don't see commercials doesn't mean it isn't relevant.

Interesting. It seems you have gotten a almost new sensation. Not to be mean, but the problem's with the sensation first comes after a while, mine sensation was the best in the first few weeks, but after that it just went down.
Also I disagree on that the sensation got a better screen. The SG2 does have the best screen available.
But you did for Christmas so it wasn't that bad
The only problem I have with my HTC Sensation is power button which is fixed in ICS and of course the power use issues which take a lot of tweaking even with a bigger battery.

I'm sorry but, wut?
800x480 on a 4.52" screen... awesome... not!
newer android phones like the Galaxy Nexus has the best screen out.
I'd take the qHD screen over the one on the SGS2 any day of the week.
I've had my Senny since launch and have yet to have any problems.
not sure what kind of problems you had with your Senny but perhaps you got a defective unit.
I think the 4.3"(with 16.9 aspect ratio) screen is perfect.
Not sure how I'd feel with the bigger screens coming out now but that seems to be the way it's going so...

I love the GSII but you're right about the screen not being superior to the Sensation as far as resolution. When it comes to colors and use in the sun the GSII almost has no glare at all. The blacks are actually black! Both phones are great. Its just a matter of preference. The whites on the Sensation are actually white versus the GSII blueish white hue.

Still my XE is still the better phone for its better looks and awesome user experience.

Did that already, phone is as smooth as a baby, but the wifi issue is hardware related, and oddly enough i use my phone landscape 80% of the time, which means wifi is non existent unless I hold it awkwardly. T_T.
The Nexus S is smooth. But the Sensation XE, That I own is smoother than my old Nexus S. With more time and optimization the Sensation will be alot smoother.
That's exactly what I did, I had a Sensation for a few days as an upgrade from Orange, but when I saw a Nexus S on special offer and got one for my daughter, I found it much lighter and the screen better than the Sensation. So I bought one for myself and put the Sensation on Ebay.
I also like the Nexus S OS because it is clean without any manufacturers customisations.
I updated mine from 2.3.1 to 2.3.6 stock ROM. Will wait for the OTA ICS update later this month.
I have found the WiFi to be a bit weak, this apparently is a known problem, otherwise just feels faster than the Sensation.
In future I'm going to stick to the Google phones because I prefer a vanilla Android install.

yeah, how is the camera, its 5mp compared to the 8mp in the sensation and theres no hd recording, but its still great for picture taking isnt it?
I had to make the same decision and I haven't looked back. One thing about the sensation that drove me insane was the touchscreen sensitivity. I would always miss keys on the keyboard and I'd have to press harder than I did on my old vibrant. The nexus s has a much better digitizer and is much more responsive over all IMO. Comparable to the galaxy s (not surprising). I will warn you, the screen isn't the sharpest, but the saturated colors and deep blacks are worth it IMO. Aside from that, I can't think of any downsides.

Quality seems great to me, so, switching it is for me!
Thats the thing with HTC. I love the build and Sense (less so since I got ICS on my Nexus S) but the screens are a POS and thats the thing that you interact with the most the screen. It really makes or breaks a phone.
HTC really need to get an Amoled supplier or something similar, else they will fall way behind Samsung in the next few years.
I will not touch another HTC phone because of this.
I've never actually compared my screen to the nexus s. So to me the screen quality seems fine haha. . Although, I used to have the HD7, and the quality of that screen was HORRID.
I had a Hero and the screen was nice.
Then I got a HD2 about 6 months ago and put Android on it. It ran it well but the screen was an abomination. Also, the digitizer was poor as it missed buttons pressed all the time. So I sold it and kept the Hero for another 6 months.
Then I saw the Nexus S for £199 and couldn't resist.
I can't get over how good this phone is.

I did exactly the same, and for the same reasons ;-)
Long story short, my girlfriend needs to replace her G2, and is adamant about having a physical keyboard (having extensively used touchscreen and not liking it). My main concern is long-term reliability, since she's probably going to use the phone for a while.
If it's unreliable or something, is there any better/other option for an Android phone with a physical keyboard (that works on T-Mobile US)? I know there's the Samsung Galaxy S Relay, but the keyboard on it is absolutely terrible, and there's the Samsung Captivate Glide, but its running older specs and I know nothing about the phone other than it's cheap.
I have had my DS for 2+ years, without a single replacement. The slide is as good as new. Everything works as expected. I use the phone daily, but as a developer, I sit at a desk and use my device lightly in comparison to others.
I do not have a case or screen protector and have dropped it straight on concrete a couple of times. Its just fine, with some case dings.
IMO, the DS is a quality product. I will be hanging onto mine for as long as I can.

Yes, but make sure to flash CM10.1 its runs amaingly and only has half a bug really... but this is a great device still

Came from the G2 too (this year...end of january)
And I gotta say: the keyboard of the G2 is way better
Also the ROM selection is bigger (well, G2 is a world whide phone whilst this is US only...so kinda clear: the fewer ppl owning this phone the littler is the chance of a dev beeing under these ppl) still says nothing bout the quality of the ROMs though
if you want sense, best is sticking to the stock-closest ROMs with sense 3.6 and android 2.3, there is one sense 4 and ICS ROM by sun_dream I myselve used for a long time as dd, but the developement stoped thus sun_dream's mytouch broke and he moved on (SGS3 as far as I recall)
If sense is not important, stick to the 4.2 ROMs, they are all really great and with few bugs
So far from my side

You really think the keyboard on the relay is bad?
No offense, but the 4g slide keyboard is one of the worst I've owned...
I have written a review of all 3 phones coming from the G2. Look through my started threads and you find them
That said, development has really hotted here up since I moved onto the glide very sad for me. But this phone does have a stable and solid selection of roms

Neither I nor my girlfriend could stand the Relay keyboard (and we tried multiple phones), while the Slide was still bad but manageable. I haven't had the chance to try the Glide.
And I only found your review of the Glide - speaking of, how would you rank it to the Relay or Slide?

The 4g slide review I made a while back. Keep digging. EDIT: found it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524658
I commented on the relay in my captivate glide review thread. Look near the bottom. I would rank like this worst to best: 4g slide, glide, relay.
The keyboards between the glide and relay are actually very different. Both have ups and downs, but I think the relay keyboard is marginally better. Overall the relay is the best qwerty I've come across in a long time, and easily the fastest. The G2 was the best phone I've ever owned, but it's too slow now...

Agreed. The MT4GS keyboard is awful. The Relay has a great keyboard and has CM10.1 in active development for it. It also has a bigger screen and a newer processor.
Considering you can get one for around 100 dollars, I would say it is worth it.

I have recently seen some decent condition ones go for 130-140, and some minty ones ~150-160
I bought my MT4GSlide for $104 about 2 weeks ago off of Ebay.

I loved my G2, but the MT4GS was a great upgrade, though I do miss the extensive dev support of the G2. Anyways, everyday, I find solutions for my MT4GS that justify my upgrade decision. The improved camera and processor alone is worth it in my opinion.

Not to mention there are some great devas here as well along with many talented porters. Actually the g2/dz has really only andromadus left with a few other porters. I'd say the devices are on par as current development goes nowadays
The g2 has better build quality and a better keyboard, I'd say every other measure has become a win for the doubleshot.

Are you from the future? The myTouch 4g Slide model is less than 2 years. It was released in the summer of 2011.
The greatest hw keyboard phone ever. I just love it.

I don't know about g2 but Desire Z doesn't have a better build quality than Doubleshot for sure. One of my friends has DZ and I feel more comfortable typing on DS keyboard rather than DZ.

I would say that's just prefrence but I really can't see how you say this, I can through my g2 around and it won't brake, the construction/build qauality is far supperior, not just on the outside but in, the doubleshot has a poor design which means compents need to be gluded together, so in build quality the g2/dz (same phone) is much better.
I personally feel the keyboard is much better as well but I guess that can come down to personally prefrence so ill give you that

So she ended up preferring the 4G Slide - now that I have it, any ROM recommendations? Something that's easily a daily driver, with all built-in functions (keyboard lights/keys, camera features, etc) working? I'm thinking scverhagen's CM9.1 right now.

Had this for 2 weeks now, its awesome, stable, everything works (except the LEDs for alt/shift, but he is working on that xD) but the JB ROMs are also quite stable now, so i would recommend that you try some and leave at the best for you/her^^
