I did a quick search and didn't seem to find anything for 'crash'.
I've had my phone since the July 5th release date in Canada and since then it's probably crashed 6-7 times.
I can never tell what's crashing it (each time felt different).
once i specifically started noting what crashed it, one was in the middle of writing an email in the Gmail app when I hit backspace. Surely the Gmail app that came loaded with the phone isn't crashing it?
Another time I was just exiting an app via the back button and the screen turned black.
The other few times I don't recall.
Is anyone else experincing this? Is there any type of debugger or crash log for the phone? If no one else is experiencing this, it stands to reason one or two of my apps are crashing the thing.
I've got the Bell Sensation, too, and I'd have to say it's crashed about the same amount of times. Each time, I send the report to HTC. The app is called "Tell HTC", it comes up automatically in the notification bar.
One time it was the camera app that I was in when it restarted, another time I was viewing the calendar app. It's a phone that's only a few weeks old. Hopefully after the first OTA or two, the phone will be less buggy.
I came from a Motorola Atrix, and even after the updates, it would still periodically restart/crash. Boo.
This doesn't really help you, but just wanted to let you know it's not just your phone!
My phone has only the camera & screen issue, when battery is to low and I am capturing my sensation restarts. also sometimes I have some lines on screen. but my phone never crashed yet, I have it since 25 June...
Seems like it's mostly the T-Mobile and Bell variants that have the most issues.

I've noticed this since I got my Captivate - wondering if anyone know anything about it or if they are having the same issue. When I'm using an app (any app really - camera, gallery, market, Jewels, etc) - the phone will do it's mild vibration for haptic feedback and I can see what appears to be the home button blinking, then it will close the app and go right to the home screen - all this is with my hand nowhere near the home screen. Has anyone else had this happen to them?
One of the reviews I read mentioned this problem. Apparently it is a production problem for a small number units and you will need to exchange it
Interesting - thanks very much - now I can stop trying to figure it out and just take it back to AT&T for an exchange.
I just noticed the same behavior with my phone. However, this is already my second Samsung Captivate! The first one would periodically would spam the home button over and over after unlocking the phone and essentially become unusable.
Ugh guess I'll have to swap it out for a 3rd time.
RPK.Chris: do you have a link to that review?
It's in the main phonedog review but the behavior is demonstrated starting around 6 min 16 sec I think..

Looks like I'm stuck with it till at least the 25th - they don't have any replacements coming in until then at my local stores.
I've been having the same issue, it's bugged out and starting spamming the home key on 3 occasions in my first day of use (just got it this afternoon).
Had mine swapped out today... so far so good

I got mine swapped out yesterday after work - went to another local store and they had actually just got a new shipment in so they gave me one from the new batch. Interestingly it seems that not only is that issue resolved but the phone seems to be snappier than it was. It's nice to finally get to experience the phone in full!
Had the same problem with my first phone.
swapped it out on tuesday and no problems so far!

Well, having used it for awhile now, my new unit seems to have the same problem again except it spams the search button instead of home, and it happens a lot less frequently. Guess I'll have to have it swapped again.

Yes, twice. Both times have been while an app was firing up/loading and my screen turned off (because I have my screen timeout at 15 seconds). It would just freeze and not respond to anything, then the random haptic feedback (I don't even have this turned on) and I'm back at the homescreen. It appears to reboot, except without the splash screen. It does media scanning, auto update of time, and the signal comes in.
What the hell is going on. I tried resetting and everything, even exchanged the device and the new one is doing the same thing! Also vibrating and force closing it is getting on my nerves! The followig seems to happen after a while I am TIRED of having to turn of my phone and turn it back on! ~ I go to play a .mp3 it says " FIle type not supported"...My .mp3 ringtone does not work the phone just vibrates the selected ringtone doesnt work. I got too take a picture or record video it says "Camera Failed"....I get a visual voicemail....the "play" button is grayed out and I have to turn off phone turn it BACK On just to check my voicemail. Also occassioally my sms wont work either. I turn my phone off and on every morning and throughout day I notice this and its getting REAL annoying !
Well first off, this isn't a software flaw, this is specific to you, as we have many users here including myself who are using these phones daily without the issues you are describing.
You had said that the issue was with an mp3, can you upload that somewhere for us to test on our phones?
As far as the camera and visual voicemail, I've never heard of that issue before, perhaps you ended up with a bad phone again?
I am getting the frequent force close with messaging. I also have had problems with the camera and idk about the mp3 stuff I haven't put any ringtones on the phone yet. This is getting really annoying I agree.
I don't have any issues with mine? Have you guys done anything like rooting or flashing anything?
Nope, completely stock. The most I have done is take a screen shot lol.
hmm maybe some have a defect? It's not all SK4g's though, as some of us have no issues at all. I would suggest getting it replaced by T-Mobile, as this is a factory defect. not sure why that happened to you guys. has anyone else had these issues and found any fixes?
That's kinda tough the hearest t-mobile is like 4 hours from here /:
One of my friends who went with me on the trip to get the SK also got one and he says he's never gotten a force close so you may be right. But could it have anything to do with the amount of texts I send/receive? Because I have to admit it is pretty excessive. The failing to send messages when I am receiving one simultaneously is expected, but not the force closes in my opinion.
It shouldn't force close on you. I know mine fails to send every once in a while too, as I text a lot (kinda the reason I got the phone). failing to send isn't as big of a deal, as it notifies you and you just have to click resend. Not entirely sure why it's force closing though? I wonder if a logcat might help? if you have adb installed, you can try adb logcat and see what shows up when you force close? if we can find the issue there, it might be fixable from our end. all depends on where the flaw lies/if it's just a bad apk somehow or if there's an actual hardware issue or something.
I'll do a log next time there is a fc, I'm having another issue or it may be related, but this one is with WidgetLocker I believe. Sometimes when I go to unlock the phone it'll freeze up and then I dont know how to explain it, but it almost seems like it resets but it really doesnt. The phone will blackout for a little then the homescreen will pop up and service will gone for a while until the cards are read just like if I rebooted.
That might be a function of WidgetLocker, I used it on my old G1 and it always hung and black screened at me.

Yeah I know it does that from time to time, but on my previous phone it wouldn't do that reboot thing where it would lose connection then resend my latest text messages once it reconnected.
I'm not sure why it's doing that. My guess would be that the issues are caused because the SK4G doesn't use a normal lock screen. widgetlocker uses some modification of the system file for the lock screen, and perhaps it's not sure what to modify? just my 2 cents.

That's what I was thinking too, I'm gonna uninstall it for a bit and see if anything changes.
is anyone else having an issue with notification volume? everytime i reboot my SK, my notification volume gets pushed all the way down to nothing, so i don't get a sound notification for texts, emails, etc, until i move the notif. volume back up in my settings. i did root with the one-click for the Epic 4G.
This is a new UI so alot of the apps i.e. widgets you may put on will cause issues. If you like certain apps contact the dev so your device is supported correctly. Still to new to get mad at it till sum of the bugs get worked out. I did notice a couple of times when I left screen on in pocket on accident that when I go to use it again it doesn't respond to any touch but can move courser around till rebooted then its ok. If some don't already know the sk4g is almost the same as the epic. The sk4g is still a badass phone for 100bucks.
Same as the OP
I know this is a little old, but I've experienced the same problem as the OP so it seems they are not alone with this problem.
I actually tried two different newly formatted SD cards (because I thought it may have been the SD card), and still would have the problem. Then I actually did swap phones about a month ago and it seemed the problem would now take several days to resurface instead of several hours. And I could deal with that.
Since the OTA update about 2 weeks ago, the phone has been back on it's original BS as the OP posted and it's driving me nuts. I actually missed some emergency calls last night because the mp3 ringtone didn't work so I'm finding a solution to this issue today or trashing this phone.
My belief is that there is something interfering with the phone's ability to read the SD card for media. Because other apps I have that save to the SD card or read from it work fine. So I'm going to master reset it and not download any of my apps and see what happens when I set an mp3 ringtone. If it makes it through the day with no hiccups, I'll slowly add back one app at a time until hopefully I can find the culprit.
bipoler if you'd like, we can exchange via PM what apps we both have downloaded and see if we have some in common that may be problems.
I'll post back with any progress.
I've been having the problem with ringtones not working, just getting silence when I get a call. for me it seems to happen when I set a ringtone from the app Zedge, I don't think it happens when I use ringtones from the Android System, which would make sense if the issue is related to reading the sdcard. gonna go back to a system ringtone and see what happens today.
Yeah my phone had all those problems, but I installed the Lightning rom and all those problems went away, except for the ones about messages failing...I text A LOT
Lightning ROM
Thanks for that info on the Lightning Rom. I will check that out. Phone has been working flawlessly all day with the mp3 ringtone and no extra apps besides the master reset. I might give it until the morning before I start putting them back on.
On stock id install so many apps that ran on the background that id get delay from opening closing swiping and turning onthe phone.. so I wiped it installed a custom rom and just kept the essentials.. havnt had a problem since... well.. occasionly ill have to odi but that's on purpose
Sent from my SK4G
So Ive been having issues with my Htc One X and I decided to send it back to Htc (through warranty) to fix the issues... The following are issues I have encountered with the phone on Jb..
Phone randomly reboots after selecting an app
Background Wallpaper would just disappear and turn black
I would select to use an app such as Instagram for example, and it would pop up for a second but then go back to home screen each time
Text messages would come hours late but say received at an earlier time
Keyboard would disappear when texting
Signal would drop to no signal because the phone is "preparing sim" (like when it first comes on) (which is randomly)
Htc Sense would randomly close along with process com.android..etc. (see picture for screenshot, notice task bar has also diapered. )
After the pop up notifications of Htc sense or whatever crashing or stopping I would have to press ok like 50 times to get it to stop popping up..or try to hurry up and restart before it comes back up
Can anyone explain what's going on??????? I have sent my phone to Htc multiple (at least more than 5) times to be fixed and before this time it was a refurbished device because they messed up my usb port on my original phone. I do not run a lot of apps and even with some apps uninstalled it still continues to act like this and I would usually have to restart.. I wish I could unlock boot loader and flash new ROM to fix it.. but they always send it with Jelly Bean installed from stock.
That's quite a collection of issues! Since the phone is bone stock, I'd just try a factory reset, then installing a minimum of apps, and see if the issues still occur. Or run the phone in Safe Mode, and see how it behaves. If its still acting up, send it back again.

Could not honestly tell you, maybe it is some setting you have on the phone. Or may be it is a genuine hardware issue that needs to be repair or replaced. If you sent it 5 times, you should be able to get a brand new phone. I know with AT&T, after the third time, they will replace the phone with a comparable phone
Got my One yesterday, received and made calls for the first time today - each time after a couple of minutes it started to distort and sound like the other person was underwater. Once, after hanging up and phoning straight back it continued to sound 'underwatery'. Leaving it a couple of minutes between calls would clear it up before it started again.
Has anyone else had this problem? I suspect/am hoping it's a software issue, something interfering with the Phone app. I'm running stock CM11S updated to the newest version.
If it is a software issue u can report it here it it not already there

I'm more hoping that it's something I've installed that's made it happen - it seems that if I'm the only one that's having this issue then it must be something on my phone. For example, I had about three system apps I don't use greenified (obviously not the phone app!). I've undone them and restarted the phone, going to see how it goes. Shortly after first posting this I managed to go about ten minutes until I got the underwater sound, but it has still happened every single time. Thanks for your help, though - all suggestions are welcome!
On the off-chance that anybody else ever has this issue, I think I found what it was - Greenify Experimental + Donation option to do with telephony wake. I also disabled greenifying of system apps, so it could have been that but I don't think so as the phone app was not greenified. Either way I have made several phone calls, some of which have lasted 30 - 40 minutes (thanks to a touch of debit card fraud almost at my expense) and the issue seems to be resolved.
I've had my Z3 for about two weeks now, and all of a sudden last night I noticed it constantly restarting itself (at least once every few minutes). Along with this, it no longer showed that I had anything in the Album or Walkman apps, and several home screen widgets were blank. A lot of other apps won't open, and there's a lot of lag overall. I tried connecting it to my computer, but the software said --it just restarted again while typing this -- that it could not connect. I noticed a couple of days ago that the screen showed nothing but static for a second, an issue I've seen around these forums but brushed off since it only happened once. Has anyone else had this happen? What do I do? My phone is basically unusable at the moment and I intend to keep the power off to keep it from constantly restarting. Thanks for your help.
Factory reset it if it still has issues, then exchange it.
