[Q] Rooted HTC desire will no longer mount SD cards - General Questions and Answers

I have a Desire that is running Clockworkmod Recovery V2.5.0.7 and while I was attempting to flash the the new gingervillan ROm the whole thing crashed and hang for 60 minutes. I pulled the battery and now it will not reboot and the phone will not mount the SD card so I cant re flash the rom. I have tried installing the stock RUU roms but they just say it cant connect to the phone. I have checked the sdcard on different devices and phones and it is not corrupt.
Any help please to unbrick my sd card reader?
Fixed the issue by placing the SD card in an old NOKIA N95 and formated via the phone, this for some reason fixed the issue and the Desire could then read it.

My desire just wet the bed too, failing to recognise SD cards and with SIM card connectivity blinking on and off. The irony was that this only happened after attempting a "read-only" nandroid backup. Try restoring a nandroid backup when even recovery can't detect your sd card.
I was surprised though that the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 seemed to work after a few false starts. Initially I just wanted it to have the name of my provider on the spash screen so that I could return it as it's under warranty but now it works so I'll just hang onto it.
Don't let "unroot" put you off - you can always re-root afterwards.
NOTE 1: Match the *major* radio version to your existing radio, or the upgrade will fail on the radio step
NOTE 2: Run it a few times - for some reason even though it may fail the first time, it gets a little further on subsequent efforts. On my last attempt it said the partition step failed, then I tried to boot and it worked fine.
I was convinced it was a hardware failure but it turns out hboot could read the sd card fine using this method, and just recovery / the rom couldn't find it.
Edit: One more point: when you look in your device manager in windows, the device will appear as pid_0000 and vid_0000.

Thanks heaps

[Q] Sprint Nexus S 4g bricked: HELP!

Welp, tried to root the Nexus S 4g.
On rebooting, it gets stuck at the Nexus S bootscreen, pauses, keeps going, etc.
Got CWM 3.0.0.5, and can fastboot, get into CWMRecovery.
From there, I'm at a loss. Tried to restore Nandroid backup, but it says a whole bunch of stuff, basically saying E: failed to find "cache" partition, Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log, etc.
Tried to apply zip from CWM backup, it says "No files found."
Tried going into mounts/storage to mount USB storage, but nothing appears on desktop of either Mac or PC, so I can't get move files onto the SD card.
Now, when I just power up, it just says "Google," and there's a unlock icon at the bottom. Nothing else.
Anyone have any solutions?
Yeah stop using that old version. Of ClockworkMod recovery
Seriously use 3.0.2.4. Its in the clockwork thread in the dev section.

Would if I could, but I can't get anything on the SD card!
Trying to mount USB storage from CWM-- no drive shows up on Mac or PC for me to move stuff onto it.
Boot into fastboot by turning off phone, turn back on while holding volume rocker up. Leave it at the screen where you could select reboot, recovery etc. Download the above mentioned clockwork recovery image from the thread to your computer. Flash using fastboot command. No need to copy anything to SD card.

Having the exact same issue. Nothing appears in the nandroid folder now either after replacing the recovery image with 3.0.2.4 and I can't mount the USB storage or get anything onto the SD card. Phone won't boot. Unsure of the folder structure on this phone to try pushing a file with adb or fastboot.
Same issues here. I was able to flash CWM recovery 3.0.2.4, but when I go to "mounts and storage" and "mount USB storage", I the drive does not appear on both Mac and PC. I'd like to transfer the stock NS4G image onto the phone so I can install the zip from the sdcard...
When I try to use the command, "adb push", it can't find the SD card.
Same problem
I flashed it , and since then i cannot mount the device , i have a good image to push but the device is not opening up the storage for me to push the image.
I had the same problem. Got it all fixed up.

I had the same problem this morning:
I posted a workaround that worked well for me in Post #35
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072698&page=4
If it works for you click 'Thanks'
Figured it out
Alright , this is what i did to fix the problem, i booted up the system with the bad image i had, connected to wifi and downloaded the Nexus S 4G deoxed image that is out there directly from the internet to the phone. Then i moved it from the download folder to the root using file manager.
I rebooted into recovery and was able to wipe and then flash the recovery image and reboot. Once i rebooted i regained control over the usb and memory card. hope it helps you guys.
How Do I Fix "REALLY" Bricked and DEAD Nexus S4g?
All posts on this thread presuppose a working Nexus S 4g. When I use the term bricked, I mean dead. About a month ago I followed directions on one of these threads on how to easily and with one click route my jellybean running phone. For some reason the process never completed, and all I was able to accomplish was unlocking the phone. When I ran the check to see if it was truly rooted, the response showed the phone was still unrooted. About 30 days later it was deader than a brick. Somewhere I read that Jellybean on Sprint might be the culprit. Anyway, I have a dead phone. Sprint wouldn't even check it because the screen was cracked. Fortunately, I bought a new one, new to me anyway, on eBay for $37. It is still running android 2.3.7(Gingerbread), and the phone is attempting to push the Ice Cream Sandwich update. I am fighting the update until I figure out what killed my phone.
Just wondering whether there is anything I can do with my old phone, even if I only use it like an old iTouch for music and surfing via Wi-Fi. Anyone?
I attempted the one click method described here, but my desktop cannot find any devices. So it truly is dead. Comments appreciated. I have used several different cables, unsuccessfully.

Hi,
What method did u use to root? What thread? Cuz it may need to newest version of the recovery.
anyways...
Try charging up a battery on newer phone and put in dead phone... but instead if turning on normally, boot into recovery.
If it worked then use a back up to flash it back to stock. Assuming u were able to back it up b4 root.
If not plug into computer. See if it turns on or can go into either recovery or boat loader mode and if so perhaps computer will recognize it.

My first question is, is there any ROM's available for your device. If so, boat into the tri-color screen & try flashing a ROM. Also, have you tried Hard resetting your device.
Yes I did try to hard reset, but it does it quickly, and says to restart my phone, and my phone is HTC T8788, also when i try to restore in Zune it stops at 16%,

Did you try booting into the Tri-Color Screen & flashing one of the ROM's from here?
Hold Volume down & press power, keep holding volume down until you see the tri-color screen (red/blue/green/white), when connected to PC it'll say USB at the bottom & windows should install a new driver. Than you run the flashing program from one of those threads.
I can't do it, it doesn't work, now it freezes on HTC white screen, and doesn't connect to restore either,
Nobody is going to help you if you aren't trying suggestions.... It should most definatly go into bootloader... It won't even have a chance to freeze nothing loads at that point.

I did try to flash, but this only works, RUU_Mondrian_Cingular_US_1.03.502.07_5.51.09.06_22.30.50_RELEASE other ones I get [error] 208, but still it get stuck at HTC screen, is it because I have to have nk.nbf file, if so can anyone tell me where and how I can get it working, I tried all night and still trying to fix, I really need it working!
The phone still gets stuck at HTC screen, even after flash, I tried everything, could it be because I have Windows Phone 7.5 Beta 2 in there.

If it's still getting stuck, maybe you have a faulty SD Card or the ROM chip got corrupted somehow. You may have to send it in under warranty. My only other suggestion would be to try RSPL or HSPL (HSPL void warranty) & than try flashing a ROM again if RSPL/HSPL supports your model of the HTC Surround. I'd suggest RSPL as it's temporary & won't cause any warranty issues.
Instructions:
1) Boot into Tri-Color Screen with Volume down feature.
2) Connect to USB to PC.
3) Wait for Windows to install new hardware driver. (Should be done already as you tried flashing already)
4) Run DFT_RSPL_WP7FG1_LAUNCH.exe from ZIP attachment in thread linked below.
5) Wait for your device to reboot back into Tri-Color Screen on it own.
6) Flash ROM. Optionally, flash HSPL with DFT_HSPL_WP7FG1_INSTALL.exe from same zip, than flash the ROM.
NOTE: Using HSPL flashes it to ROM & if you are having hardware issue, this could completely brick the device. So, proceed with caution!
[DFT] HSPL / RSPL for HTC WP7 First Generation
It wouldn't be because of the Mango Beta, flashing the ROM should of reformatted the ROM chip & SD Card, erasing Mango.
I have the same problem, still gets stuck on HTC screen, could it be the SD card is not working, I try to put in restore so I can restore it starts normally but when it restarts the phone to continue to restore it gets stuck at HTC screen, and is there a way to check to see if the SD card is OK.

To check the SD Card, you need a Nokia device. Nokia devices can format WP7 SD Cards. Nothing else will recognize the format WP7 uses. Plus, you have to open the device up to get it out, which in most cases will void your warranty. One of the screws has a void sticker on it & if your try removing that screw, your warranty is void as they can see you tried removing the screw by the sticker being missing or damaged.
If possible, list all software I can try to restore or fix, or tweak to make work or reset something in the phone to work! Anything at all!
That's no problem for me, I bought from a friend! I have nothing to lose. And do you know the software to format the SD disk!
Oh wait, are you trying to restore after successfully installing a new ROM?
If so, don't restore, the restore isn't compatible anymore. You can reinstall all apps by finding them in the marketplace again (on device, not ZUNE PC). As long as you use same live ID on setup, the apps should be read as purchased.

In order to format the SD Card, you need a Nokia Cell. I believe it's their meego/Symbian OS that can find the card. Hopefully you or a friend has one. Lucky for me my roommate has a Nokia Nuron if I ever needed to do this.
So I can't restore it anymore since I install new boot loader. Or it doesn't matter.

Bootloader doesn't matter, if you flash a new ROM, it does as the restore won't be compatible with the new ROM. The restore must be made from the current ROM at least to my knowledge. It could be that maybe the restore is corrupt even.
There is also a tool that lets you do it in Windows. It was by Samsung or something. I'll try to find it and post it in here.

a sony psp will also do this, provided you have the microsd to mspd converter.
But, why doesn't it work after flash, after many attempt still gets stuck at HTC screen, the phone is probable not repairable right, or there still may be a chance for me to get it back again!

Boot Loop (alpharev) + no backup + empty sd card?

Before someone tells me that there are other threads about the same problem i feel mine is a bit different.
Basically i'm new to the whole rooting thing,
I have a HTC Desire (GSM).
I installed then uninstalled HTC Sync.
I used Unrevoked, it all worked fine.
I did the android usb driver thing, it worked fine.
I did something and ended up with clockworkmod and the hboot thing, nothing going wrong so far,
I noticed the super user permission thing in my apps,
A friend told me to download some terminal app and rom manager, so i did.
I then downloaded Gparted and did everything i was meant to (partitioning, fat32, ext3 and all that)
I then tried to s off the device using alpharev 1.8 and it finished.
Now my phone doesn't even load up properly, i CAN get into hboot and recovery but that's it, when i try to start phone properly, the black screen comes up with the clown, and for some reason there is nothing at all on the sd card. I also did the nandroid back up thing wrong and dont have a backup =.=
Can someone help me? I just want to get a custom rom on my phone and run it without problems. Thanks.

Guys,i need SERIOUS help! PLEASE!

first off, im not sure if im putting this in the right forum section, forgive me if im not also this is long, but please read on.
anyway heres whats up.
Recently the Nexus S line started receiving their 4.1 update. I have a Nexus S 4G (so obviously Sprint). Angry - again- that the 4G model did not get the update (or will be anytime soon) i rooted my phone again after some time.
after some random issues with it (apps would crash constantly) i attempted to switch to CM10. that didnt work. so i went to CM9 and then CM10. everything was fine until the phone would reboot on its own from time to time and every now and then i would pull the battery. After some time the issues stopped.
NOW, the other night my phone died. this morning i decided to charge it. after charging for about 20 minutes i attempted to turn it on, but i ended up getting stuck at the bootlogo (Google with the unlock) i pulled the battery, and tried again. Same thing. I proceeded to go into recovery and flash a ROM that i knew was safe to boot into, except, the SD card would not mount- saying there was an error. Thats where im at now. the SD will not mount, and im stuck at the bootlogo. I believe i "bricked" my phone.
heres what i need help with. I locked the bootloader with Fastboot, but i still have CWM on the phone. i cant delete CWM without getting into the SD card, but the SD card refuses to mount. I want to get CWM off, so that i can send the phone in for repair/a new one. my warranty - although void now - still has a 5 months left on it. Im not worried about switching the ROM because the phone wont boot anyways, which means that when i give in, they wont be able to do anything besides see that its not rooted.
TL;DR
i think i bricked my phone, but i still have hope for it. SD wont mount, and im stuck at bootloader. i need a way to either fix this, or delete CWM somehow. Im on a Nexus S 4G.
PLEASE! Any suggestions are appreciated!
Do u have a backup showing when u go to backups?
Or is it SD card not mountable at all?
Next can u mount via USB?
If so copy ur SD to then format it.
Do u have a backup of ur SD card on ur computer b4 this happened?
If so then try to format SD card then put ur backup in it and then flash a backup or new ROM.
Vs Nexus S 4G
if you have fastboot then you can flash factory images... read this guide a couple times before trying it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572307
but you need a ns4g image from here

no backups at all, but even if i did, the backups would be stored on my SD card, which i cant access. when i go into CWM and go to install zip from SD card, it says "error mounting SD card"

ill check that out. another issue im having is that i think i found a way to fix this, but i can only fix it if my bootloader is unlocked, which, in attempt to mask my errors, i locked, and now i cannot unlock it. when i press "yes, unlock my bootloader" the phone freezes up. i need some way to unlock my bootloader OR enable USB debugging from my computer. thing is, while i DO have all the drivers for my phone, the computer will not recognise the phone. It makes a sound when i plug in the phone, to show something IS plugged in, but it does not show up in my drives.
Is the phone locked by a provider?
CWM works? Format all - data & system & cache & SD CARD.
Then use ODIN to flash a proper stock firmware, unlock & root your phone one again.
A lot of work but necessary...:fingers-crossed:

heres the catch about CWM, i can format all my data and system and wipe the cache. When i format the system, that also formats the SD.BUT under the advanced options in CWM, i cant format ONLY the SD. it gives me a mounting error. And i believe i found a solution through linux, but i need the bootloader unlocked, which i locked up again. Everyone says odin is the way to go but i cant get it on because the SD is unmountable.
is there some sort of adapter i can plug into the USB port at the bottom of the phone that lets me attach an external SD? i believe if i can attach an external SD card which contains the things i need such as a stable ROM, then i can get the phone working. i came across a website which repairs bricked phones. In a video of a Nexus S brick repair, the tech guy installed some files through a "jig"(?) do you think if i can get my hands on one of those i can fix my phone?

Lost SD card access and can't mount USB

My phone took a dump on me yesterday and I've been scouring XDA over the last few hours for a solution and I see a lot of similar issues but nothing exactly like mine. Please bear with me...
I was using the latest MIUI version by evol4g and the only persistent issue was some lag, nothing with my SD card or the core android processes. I went to bed last night and my phone was charging then a bright light in my room woke me up at about 0400. I looked at my phone and noticed it had rebooted itself into recovery. I attempted a simple reboot and it got stuck on the black Google screen. I pulled the battery and booted it back into recovery and attempted to restore it but noticed that none of my nand backups were available. I figured, this sucks, but I'm tired so I'll just re-flash the ROM and deal with it later. I attempted to flash a .zip from the SD card and it told me that no SD card could be found. I got up and went to my laptop to copy a ROM from my desktop to the SD card and when I went to mount the USB drive it told me that there was "no file to write to" (or something similar). Basically, I have no SD card access and no way to mount the USB to attempt re-flashing of anything.
I've made multiple attempts over the last 6+ hours to re-flash CWM to the latest version (using both ADB and the fastboot version), I've tried to re-flash through ODIN and I've even gone as far as attempting to UNroot just so I can get this thing to function. Every time, though, it gets stuck while writing the system files then doesn't get any further. When I'm using ABD, I've got no SU access and while in fastboot, the system gets stuck writing .system files. As of right now, it's been attempting to write the system files for the UNroot process via the Nexus S Hacks .zip for over an hour. Any and all advice is welcomed and thanks for reading!

I hate to be the one to tell you this.. sounds like you got bit by the nand flash failure that all of us nexus s owners fear. Warrenty repair is the only recourse in that case.
Sad to say but sounds like you got bit .
