Boot Loop (alpharev) + no backup + empty sd card? - General Questions and Answers

Before someone tells me that there are other threads about the same problem i feel mine is a bit different.
Basically i'm new to the whole rooting thing,
I have a HTC Desire (GSM).
I installed then uninstalled HTC Sync.
I used Unrevoked, it all worked fine.
I did the android usb driver thing, it worked fine.
I did something and ended up with clockworkmod and the hboot thing, nothing going wrong so far,
I noticed the super user permission thing in my apps,
A friend told me to download some terminal app and rom manager, so i did.
I then downloaded Gparted and did everything i was meant to (partitioning, fat32, ext3 and all that)
I then tried to s off the device using alpharev 1.8 and it finished.
Now my phone doesn't even load up properly, i CAN get into hboot and recovery but that's it, when i try to start phone properly, the black screen comes up with the clown, and for some reason there is nothing at all on the sd card. I also did the nandroid back up thing wrong and dont have a backup =.=
Can someone help me? I just want to get a custom rom on my phone and run it without problems. Thanks.

[Q] HTC Incredible White Screen from Clockworkmod Restore

First off, I did read over the other forums with a related topic to this one, and they aren't quite answering my questions, so I'm making my own post.
I'm running clockworkmod v2.5.1.2 on a rooted htc incredible. After using UnRevoked to root, I loaded up clockworkmod by holding down Vol down and power, and made a nandroid backup. All went well, and I loaded up the phone just fine.
This morning, I made a second nandroid backup, because I must have deleted something I shouldn't have with Titanium Backup when i was trying to get rid of all that verizon crapware. Just a small issue with my sms messages app. So I figured i'd do a restore.
I went into clockworkmod, and just went down to backup and restore, and selected the original nandroid backup i made. After that, HTC white screen of death.
My problem is that i hear people saying to "flash a new recovery" but I don't know how to do that. I was able to navigate to mount my sd card to my Mac, but i dont' know what to do from there.
I also hear people saying "reflash from rom manager". Well i don't have rom manager.
If anyone could help me I'd appreciate it.
I've wiped the Dalvik, the cache, and i've done factory reset. Still stuck.
Thanks for reading my post.
I'm very much a novice, but will offer what I can. Your phone is probably not bricked, it's just ailing a bit. Are you familiar with ADB Shell? There is a sticky somewhere with instructions for using it. It may be the way to fix up your phone.

ADB shell? Heard of it....that's about it.
I'm not familiar with the ADB shell. I was reading some more, and found that I needed FAT32 formatting for my SC card. I backed up everything from my SD card to my PC, the formatted it, and copied the PB31IMG.zip to root of SD and held Vol Down and power. It successfully updated, but now i'm still getting the white screen and when i go into recovery, i just get two white bars on the sides of the phone with a black screen. I can still boot into HBOOT.
edit: if I try to boot the phone normally, after the white screen, i get the black bars, then the phone shuts down.
I'm in the process of restoring the contents of the SD card right now, but i'm off to school until later tonight. I will check back and hopefully someone will have some info for me on what to do. I will supply any more information as well. Just ask!
Update
So I was able to get into recovery, and update to Cyanogenmod through Clockworkmod. So at least I have a working device now...but a new ROM wasn't what I was trying to accomplish in the first place. Is there any way to get my contacts and such back from my nandroid backup now? I do have 2 nandroid backups, but when I try to load them, i get the whitescreen.
Well I guess my nandroid backups are no good. If I try to restore to them, i get the white screen and I have to go back and flash a ROM to get my phone to boot. Got most of my contacts back through google's sync feature, and some of my apps and app setting from "mirror" copies of my sd card i had done in the past.

[Q] Rooted HTC desire will no longer mount SD cards

I have a Desire that is running Clockworkmod Recovery V2.5.0.7 and while I was attempting to flash the the new gingervillan ROm the whole thing crashed and hang for 60 minutes. I pulled the battery and now it will not reboot and the phone will not mount the SD card so I cant re flash the rom. I have tried installing the stock RUU roms but they just say it cant connect to the phone. I have checked the sdcard on different devices and phones and it is not corrupt.
Any help please to unbrick my sd card reader?
Fixed the issue by placing the SD card in an old NOKIA N95 and formated via the phone, this for some reason fixed the issue and the Desire could then read it.
My desire just wet the bed too, failing to recognise SD cards and with SIM card connectivity blinking on and off. The irony was that this only happened after attempting a "read-only" nandroid backup. Try restoring a nandroid backup when even recovery can't detect your sd card.
I was surprised though that the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 seemed to work after a few false starts. Initially I just wanted it to have the name of my provider on the spash screen so that I could return it as it's under warranty but now it works so I'll just hang onto it.
Don't let "unroot" put you off - you can always re-root afterwards.
NOTE 1: Match the *major* radio version to your existing radio, or the upgrade will fail on the radio step
NOTE 2: Run it a few times - for some reason even though it may fail the first time, it gets a little further on subsequent efforts. On my last attempt it said the partition step failed, then I tried to boot and it worked fine.
I was convinced it was a hardware failure but it turns out hboot could read the sd card fine using this method, and just recovery / the rom couldn't find it.
Edit: One more point: when you look in your device manager in windows, the device will appear as pid_0000 and vid_0000.
Thanks heaps

[Q] Lg revolution Revotoolkit/clockworkmod issues please help!

I am trying to install Gingervolt on my Lg Revolution and i installed clockworkmod and revotoolkit on my phone but clockworkmod doesnt say my phone? and when i try to install recovery on revotoolkit it says it installs but when i reboot my phone the only thing i ever get is after the Verizon splash screen and after that it just goes to a black screen and i have to take my battery out. i cant get it into recovery mode even when i do it manually. please if anyone knows anything please let me know i've been stuck for about a week.
any luck on this? seems to be the same thing i'm encountering
I'm having a similar issue. I used the LGrevolution all in one package to root my phone. This root package is supposed to also install CWM.
The root package says that it complete successfully and restarts my phone, however only the superuser app is available and no CWM. When I DL CWM on my own it doesn't list my phone when I go to install flash recovery.
I have no clue where to go from here. please advise.
I know I would have a better chance of getting an answer to this if I had access to the forums for my phone. Instead they throw all of us non-regular users into the "we never look here" channel until we make 10 posts. lol
Flashing GingerVolt
I am currently rooted on the LG Revolution, I was wanting to try GingerVolt V1.3 on my phone i understand that you have to download MT's the only question that i have is how do i save the .zip file to my external SD card?
I can get to CWM recovery just fine and back up my current ROM and wipe all current data (Have done it once) but when i go to update from SD there are no files found. What am i doing wrong?
Thank You in advance for any help
idk if this will help but?
you are all correct out phone is not listed this not being fully open for the lg revo but if i remember correctly I just selected the first device on the list it is kinda has a Ect. ect. ect after so that ppl with all other phones can use it too the first one is like the universal if yours isnt on the list? it worked for me now I cant remember what I did and i am sort of a noob at the whole rooting thing but after i did this reboot in to recovery didnt show on the pop up window when i held down the power button so i had to restart i think a few times maybe power off all the way or something you wont hurt it so i say try till it works if you are rooted you wont screw anything up? i havent in a yr of having the phone and i dont really know what im doing still half the time?
LG Revo stuck on CWM-based Recover v5.0.2.7
I was trying to install Gingervolt 2.0 and thought I followed all steps to complete the task but now it's stuck on the CWM menu and I cannot do anything else. I tried formatting and starting over but now it's just stuck on the CWM main menu. Help please! n00b will be a n00b! Won't let me mount external sd card in order to copy Gingervolt 2.0.zip to phone to re-install. I'm pretty sure this is bricking? I have no idea. Thought I read enough to root but missed a step in the process.
UPDATE: Was able to install Gingervolt 2.0 by MTMichaelson, installs files, Writes symlinks and permissions, Replaces kernel, Formats cache and dalvik, unmounts, done.
After that I am stuck on what to do. Please help! Any would be much appreciated!

[Q] Blue logo screen on g2x PLEASE HELP

This is my first thread that i ever needed to start on anything on phones so please understand that i'm REALLY DESPERATE i have looked in a ton of places for this fix and i tried to use clockworkmod and ended up doing that correctly but when i tried to restore it it say i dont have any backups nor recovery files and i tried putting cynagenmod on my sd card but it couldnt find the file and then i tried to use NFFLASH and make it stock android again but nothing happened and ended up stuck on the blue logo screen again. please i dont know what to do
Which version of Cyanogenmod is it? Put it on the root of your SD card. Is it already on the internal storage? I believe when you click "install from .zip" or something of the equivalent there's an option to select "choose from internal storage".
You can boot back into clockwork mod by turning the phone off, holding down the power and volume down buttons until the lg logo with the BLUE background appears, then release.
I was trying to install cynagen mod 7.01 from Rom manager but it froze in the logo screen and so i took out the battery and put it back on and it still continued to do that. After that i used CWM but i didnt have any ROMS to restore it and before it didnt correctly make my backup so i just want to restore it like the way it used to but i dont know where to put it in my sd card

Your sentence is incredibly long. Gave up after the desperate grab for attention. You may have wiped your backups by mistake. It happens. I did it not once, but twice. Give us more info so we can help. ROM, kernel, etc. A list of apps you run on a daily basis would be helpful.

Never use rom manager to install on this phone, you'll continue to run into this problem.
Can you access your phone storage when it's plugged into your computer? If you can, drop CM onto it at the root directory, put it back into your phone, boot into CWM and install the zip.
i think my rom was stock rom 2.3.4 before i tried flashing cynagenmod the apps arent very important to me and i only had this phone for a week because i got too excited about the dual core.
Follow the instructions HERE to the letter. You'll go back to stock and you'll have to root your phone again (if that's what you want to do) but it should get you up and running again.
In future, search, search, and search some more. I assure you, most problems people have had have been discussed and probably solved on these forums.

What is the name for this process of trying to restore my device from blue logo screen? If i know the name of the issue im trying to fix maybe i can start searching for the guides. I can't really access my internal or sd card when i plug in my usb and i don't really understand what the problem i ran into if its even fixable or not. The link you've sent me for the guide i'm trying right now but i can't just sit here and wait for an hour. Feedback is really appreciated

The whole process (if done correctly) should take but about 15 minutes give or take. What you'll be doing is Flashing Stock Recovery. Download the file provided in the link I gave, and then follow each instruction exactly as it says. Shouldn't be a need to Google any guides as this spell it out for you. Just have read and execute.
If you used NvFlash/One Click Recovery to flash Clockwork Mod to your device then you should already have the APX driver installed on your computer. In that case, half of the battle is already done.
But, if you installed your recovery using Rom Manager, then I would download the APX driver and go through the whole process in the guide I've linked from start to finish.

[Q] up a creek! inspire stuck at hboot. PD98IMG.zip update failure

not rooted, htc inspire 4g, s-on, partially used aakh hack kit...
dont think anything has been flashed yet and couldnt boot into clockworkmod...
2.3.5 please help me asap.
i used aakh to try to root my phone, didnt work...
i saw another methood that involve using the hack kit to install that version of clockworkmod. (that seemed to work.) then i used another hack tool (warp drive?) that was origanally used for a different phone.
(video is on youtube, {hacking the htc insire 4g 2.3.5} the guy has two vids of the same thing, one is a remake)
i got to the end and kept getting the red triangle and could not proceed.
now the day after, that night my phone was running slow, i noticed that the vol down wasnt responding and the phone was running very slow. i restarted the phone, (no shutdown option)
it instantly rebooted to the hboot menu (2 seconds if that after it was off) and says "*** LOCKED ***" at the top
i can not scroll with the vol up, down, and it only does anything when i have the sd card inserted before starting hboot.
pulled out the battery... and all that stuff, it still instantly boots to the hboot screen.
it tries to find several extensions of PD98IMG on the sd card.
says "no image!" for the first few. obviously because it insnt there to load.
then it gets to the .zip exention, says loading, then checking, then it says
model id incorrect!
update failed!
press <POWER> to reboot.
is it trying to flash someting now? my phone is s-on not rooted, 2.3.5 gingerbread i guess
is there another zip file i can download to replace the PD98IMG.zip?
(i already tried to download one but im having hell getting the file from my computer to my phone, [using a galaxy note II to try and transfer, not being user friendly])
do i need to have a gold card, ( idk if it is already a gold card or not, but it most likely didnt happen yet)
is there a way to get root from this point, if not im not too worried about it i just need to fix my phone.
please help, asap my dad is about to take it to at&t and if they do anything to it i dont want them to erase my other memory card or factory reset because someone is an idiot.
guys i know that's a lot of info im just trying to answer questions before they are asked to get the problem solved a little bit faster...
any ideas would be wonderful.
