Okay, so here's my story...
I bought the Motorola Droid X from Best Buy on release. It was a great phone, everything worked exceptionally. I unrooted, went back to stock and such through full SBF and received the Gingerbread OTA. It, in a nutshell, broke the phone. 3G would pop in and out when in a full service area (wifi would do the same). And unlike most, the update absolutely killed my battery life. I called up Verizon to explain the situation, and they claimed it was in fact the update which caused this to occur and it is an unfortunate problem that they have run into before. They sent me a "certified like new" replacement Droid X. I received this phone, used it for about two hours and the bottom half of the screen went out (The one Motorola has defined as a problem with initial launch products). I called up Verizon again, and they were very helpful and willing to negotiate. They offered to send me a different Motorola phone if I wanted to avoid the X. The X2 was a new phone, and it's specs were impossible to pass, so, of course, I requested it. They sent out another "certified like new" phone, I received the X2 only to not be able to make calls from it. Activation was impossible as the phone had a constant beeping noise and would randomly cut out. I finally got through to tech support on the affected phone, and they could hear the beeping as well. After they tried to activate the phone and failed, they decided they would send me yet another Droid X2. I received this phone, and it wasn't faulty for the first day or two. But then I started receiving duplicate text messages... And I mean, like 6 or 7 duplicates from each person almost every other to every three texts I received. This problem still persists, and it was something I just decided to deal with. A few days later, I began getting random reboots. Again, not a huge deal, it's 1, maybe 2 a day. I have now had the phone for 2 weeks, and the smallest thing finally put me over the edge. A pixel has died on the screen. I'm incredibly OCD, so, every time I'm looking at my phone, I focus on this dead pixel and it drives me absolutely nuts. So, I've decided that here soon I'm going to contact Verizon yet again. I hate to be rude with the company as the representatives have truly tried their best in resolving my problems and working with me in a fashionable manner... But guys and gals, this is just ridiculous. I want a working, reliable, and still technically advanced phone.
So, my question... Does anyone have any advice on what I could do? Do you think there is any potential in convincing Verizon that these "certified like new" phones are persistently faulty and that their "100+ point" checklist is not working? Has anyone been in a similar situation and been able to have it resolved (that is, completely resolved)?
Thanks for reading.
TLDR; I've gone through 2 Droid X's, 1 Droid X2, and I am now on my second Droid X2. All have been faulty "certified like new" phones from Verizon. I'm persistently encountering problems with this system. What should I do?
Have you tried going to a verizon store to resolve the issue? The store customer service is pretty good, and that would at least get some notes in your account showing that the device is indeed having physical problems that are not your cause.
i suggest u get on some Chinese forums and discover the recovery for the droid x2. Then we all can fix the problems ourselves. You started it all, you rule!
So I was an early adopter of the g2x got it 1st week it came out. As you can guess my battery life sucks yet i hear people on this forum getting fairly good battery life.
I read some people had exchanged their device, and the newer ones have better battery life. So i called tmobile store tonight to do the same. They told me i would have to go through customer service. So i contactd them, told them my volume button was busted and set up to get an exchange.
Thing is they say I could get a refurbished or new phone. How likely you think it is i get a new one?
Do you think bad battery is based more on the hardware, or just the battery? In that case i could cancel and just get a battery. You think ill end up with a crappier phone thatn the one i have in the first place?
It sounds like they are going to send you another G2x but this will more than likely have Gingerbread and the new baseband. I have a spare G2x at home that is stock Gingerbread and new baseband never rooted or flashed anything on it and it runs fine and it is faster than when my first G2x that I received when it have Froyo with the older baseband. But before I took the replacement I would make sure you do not have any screen bleeding, screen of death, or reboot problems before sending in your current phone. If it does then see if they will send you a battery for yours.
Unless they do an exchange do a different phone, such as the Mytouch 4G to G2x, then the only part of the exchange you get is the phone, just the phone, no battery or back cover or charger or cable, just the phone. It's how its been anytime I've got an exchange, from my 4 G1's, 3 Cliqs, and 2 Mytouch's and 2 G2x's.
URGH man I love this phone the look, the feel, the screen, the camera its beautiful and its main features are #1, WTF does it have to drop wifi signal and multitask like crap? So my AT&T guy is going to let me exchange it hopefully to try a different model number and hopefully get one without the wifi hardware issue, I can deal with the multitask until a custom rom has that wiped and the camera working like stock. The wifi dropping when im surfing is not bearable. I dont want to go to a SGS3 what an eye sore, glossy plastic, pysical home button, really and they dont want to be like apple? Why dont you stick a fricken light switch on it. What are you doing guys is your wifi making you want to smash it like me? I got 3 days to go in an exchange and then he said if im still not satisfied he will extend my 30 days to try a SGS3 when it lands in store.
Have you applied any updates? My phone has absolutely no wifi issues. Running stock deodexed 1.85.
Some of the wifi issues can be hardware related there is a thread about it in the international one x forum and i think there is one here too.
Mine used to have strong wifi problems. I flashed a couple roms, and currently on clean rom dev 2.3 and NO wifi issues or signal drops ever. Give it a shot. What if your replacement has dead pixels or something? That's purely hardware related and now you've fallen into a loop of exchanges
I'm having wi-fi problems as well. It will say I'm connected and have good signal but the browser or google play won't load anything...I turn airplane mode on and off and then boom...I get some old FB and twitter notifications and the internet starts working again.
I'm having the same exact problem with plain old 4g / LTE data as well. It will say I have service but I really don't...have to airplane on and off then all of a sudden my texts will come in and data works.
My replacement arrives from Amazon today, hopefully this one works. I got the replacement on the 30th day of my warranty with Amazon. Does anyone know if that replacement extends my return policy? For example do I get 30 days from today with the new phone for a replacement or return? (just in case this one has the same problems, i'll want to switch over to something else)
I do not believe that getting a replacement from Amazon extends the 30 day return period past 30 days from the date of purchase
Have you all applied the 1.85 update? I did and it completely fixed the data not working but shows connected issue..
everything just works on this(except true multi-tasking, lol)

Yep, it remains with the original purchase date.

Same exact problem I have... I had to enable best wifi performance to get it not to drop my wifi connection while I was browsing. Let us know how it goes and if you don't mind, can you tell us the serial number on the defective phone so we know which model to avoid.

I'm surprised they would allow to to exchange a phone with poor wi-fi performance when that is a fix called out in 1.85. Unless it's to get a phone with 1.85 because yours won't take it.
My phone's S/N is HT246W running CleanROM v1.1 Lite. Rooted and Unlocked. Wifi issues only when 'Best WiFi Performance' disabled. I checked it against stock 1.73 and official 1.85, wifi still problematic. (Note: Not 100% sure how wifi was on 1.85, but i'm pretty sure it was still problematic.)
WiFi workingng fine here, it's the faux 4g data drops us what gets me, greatly improved with the 1.88 radio but still happens from time to time.

I got mine yesterday from the new batch that ship with 1.85. WiFi is working properly, no dead pixels, corners of glass all flush. Multitasking is working fine. MLB at bat audio running right now while I am doing a bunch of other things. I think the multitasking issue is not really an issue, just different from what you are used to seeing. For example, some apps will refresh upon returning to them when in the past they would just show the old data and you would have to refresh manually. As a whole the multitasking behaves very much the way it did on my Inspire, just fine.
From what I have seen so far, the new batch seems to be better as far as build quality. None of the issues that have been reported here.
If you enable WiFi best performance your phone will not deep sleep ever. Be warned.

Thread title? Huh?
I'm not trying to hate, but please understand that each of us has a unique way of writing fast, and if we use shorthand, it's nearly impossible to effectively get our message across.

I have insurance through "T-Mobile" and I have had to claim about 6 times throughout 3-4 years... sometimes near the end of a devices life span when they no longer have that decide they will offer a sideways replacement. I'm going to call today and initiate a claim due to my phone having a few problems not due to root.
My question is
Has anyone been through this process recently - and if so did they give you an option for another phone? Was it your only option?
Thanks guys regardless I will let you all know what happened after I get off the phone with them this afternoon.
I heard they kept a buttload of the last original issues just for replacements. That's what I got back in August. I hope you get lucky too. They didn't even mention anything other than "It''ll be there in 3 days sir".
Well this really sucks. I've been telling people for a long time that my G5 has been the best phone I've ever had...a true powerhouse. Then came the Nougat update. Since then it's been nothing but problems. I called Verizon, LG (useless), and Google. All said 'try a factory data reset, that should fix everything'. Yeah, right. So after the Ohhhhhhh-so-painful FDR, I still have all the same problems. When plugging in the oem or third party fast chargers (I have two of each), the notifications will simultaneously say "slow charging" and either "charging" or "fast charging" at the same time. Unplugging and reconnecting will fix it every time. Also, I'm getting ghost images when changing screens...I can still see a shadow of the previous screen which eventually fades away. These are both just minor annoyances, but still weren't there before. But also, my NAV appears to have a hard time keeping track of where I am. More annoying. But the biggie is that I can no longer use any of my many Bluetooth headsets for phone calls. You just can't have a Bluetooth conversation anymore. Streaming audio is fine. But calls aren't doable. That's a problem. Since I already tried an FDR to no avail, Verizon is going to send me a new phone. All I can say is if it comes with Marshmallow, I'm leaving it that way. Any benefits that Nougat brought are far outweighed by the problems. I'll wait until they fix it, maybe then. Anybody else been so plagued by this update?
D Dave
I have the same problem.. I have to charge and re-start the phone to make the phone "charging" otherwise it is intermittently connected and disconnected.. I've done factory reset and didn't work out also.. I guess getting a new replacement from T-mobile is the option here.
I got the new phone that Verizon overnighted to me and got it all set up. It thankfully came loaded with marshmallow and is working fine, but keeps prompting me to install Nougat. I'm going to keep postponing the update for now to give them a chance to work the bugs out. Is there anybody out there who has installed the update on their Verizon G5 without any problems after?
I have the charging issue as well and it started with 7.0.
You should report it. They won't fix something if only a couple people report the problem. They sent me a new phone and I've managed to defer the 7.0 update for over a week now. It prompts me everyday, but I just say later! I'll wait awhile to see if they fix it. The unbearable Bluetooth call quality was just totally unacceptable.
Nougat?
My G5 is still on Marshmallow, and does not see that there is any update to Nougat available. So what are you all talking about?
What carrier are you with? I'm on Verizon, so maybe not all carriers have it yet. Or maybe you're one of the lucky ones who wasn't randomly chosen to be a guinea pig and find all the bugs and glitches. ☺
I'm on Verizon.

Me, totally problem free. No problems of any kind but it did fix one bug, I had an app that wouldn't run in Marshmallow and it's back working normally again with Nougat, who knows why?

Try to keep up.
I have the G5 on Verizon and am fully updated. The only problem I've had is with storage space. 85% full and I'm lagging frequently. I've deleted as much as I can, to no avail. I can't seem to get anything successfully moved to the SD card, so I'm not sure of its purpose.
I´ve got exactly the same problems and more.... What did you do to fix them in the meantime?
To add another problem, my fingerscanner isn't working 9 out of 10 times.
It became an annoying piece of ****! Please help to get my awesome phone back.
Greetz from the Netherlands
I've had other bluetooth issues... I have to restart bluetooth nearly every day to get it to connect to my devices, it's as if the bluetooth apk is hanging up in the background.
That said... My phone updated to 27A this morning, so I guess I'll find out in the next few days if I have the same problem, lol
Well the 27A update must literally be ONLY the security patch. It didn't fix the bluetooth issues...
Seriously this update has been the worst. I too am experiencing the power cable issue. I'd say 7 out of 10 times it tells me it's slow charging. Simply reseating the cable fixes it every time. The most frustrating part for me is Facebook and Twitter. With the first Nougat update the Facebook app began to bug out. At least once a day it randomly crashes, even when i'm not actively on it, and begins a crash loop that won't stop until I restart the phone. that usually fixes it. I'd say every other week I've had to straight up re-install the FB app to fix the crash loop. and now after the recent update that was pushed the twitter app keeps failing to load some images. Most tweeted images show up fine but profile/banner images will not. Again fixed with a restart. This is really quite frustrating. I don't understand what they did to break Nougat so badly. My friends Pixel hasn't had any of these issues. I'm getting so fed up with my G5. I love it but it just so damn locked down and now this. It really makes me wary of getting another LG phone
Well, it's been over three months since I started this thread. The problems after the Nougat update were just unacceptable, so Verizon sent me a new phone loaded with Marshmallow. I've been deferring the update every day for three months. Last night I accidentally tapped the wrong spot on my screen and it installed the damn Nougat update. I've had the update less than 24 hours now, so haven't tried everything. But I can tell you they haven't fixed the problem with the slow charge/fast charge, as it came back IMMEDIATELY after the update. I called Verizon today to ask why the hell LG couldn't fix that issue in three months time! Verizon called LG for me and inquired if there was a fix. LG said if I send the phone back to them, they'll fix the corrupted files and send it back to me. Really?!? Both my G5s experienced the same problem immediately after the update and they couldn't fix the issue in the download in three months time? Douchebags. Now I have to decide which is a bigger pain in the a$$, having to unplug and replug my phone every time I want to charge it...you know...until I get a new phone, or format it, send it back to them for however many weeks it takes them to (theoretically) fix it, and rebuild it when I get it back. Why, oh why, wouldn't they implement the fix they already have, instead of pushing out flawed software, then making me send my phone in to them to fix. Grrrrrrrr!

Unfortunately don't have anything helpful for you, other than to say, you're not alone, and I similarly got sufficiently pissed with this bug today to see if there was a solution yet.
Pretty sure you answered your own question though: they don't actually have a fix because LG has likely stopped developing new releases for the G5 in anticipation of the G6 release. They want you to send it back to them for the "fix" because it's a pain in the ass and transfers the opportunity cost onto you, which hopefully (in their eyes) means they can do absolutely nothing.
I'm just.... beyond frustrated with this ****ing phone. I really wish that I would have limped by on my old HTC M8 until the V20 came out, even with its barely-chargeable battery. At this rate, I would have been better off with a pixel or internal-battery phone for that matter. There is just seemingly no end of software and hardware issues with this phone, and LG's piss-poor customer service gives you almost no recourse for any of them
Hi. G5 VS987 Owner here with a build date of 10/2016 so I've managed to survive the bootloop issues that plagued a great number of us thus far.
My theory is: LG has no clue on how to push an OTA update.
My question(s) are: How many of you updated with the OTA?
And how many updated via LG Bridge or some other flashable method?
I'm wondering what if any difference knowing this makes because while this phone has honestly been the best/fastest/bug free phone I've ever used...the update nagscreen has me wanting to choke the [email protected]!%# out of it. It just won't go away.
I really wanted the Note 7 before they blew up...What to do guys?
---------- Post added at 02:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:41 AM ----------
Another thing...is there a way to flash back to MM if this update really goes south?
I updated to Nougat OTA with no problems except the power cord which I fixed.
Here's how I did it:
DISCLAIMER! I KNOW this has nothing to do with the problem and cannot possibly fix it but... it did fix it for me so give it a try, OK?
1. When you get the slow charging message look at the power cord, turn it around and plug it in the other way, see if that helps. Once you've determined that plugging the power cord in one way reduces the frequency of the error just keep on doing it that way and in a couple of days the problem will be gone!
I know, I know, but try it, what can it hurt?
Well, interesting update here. Verizon said I could send it back to LG to have corrupt files replaced. I decided that neither option, living with the problem or shipping the phone back to LG, was acceptable. I called Verizon back and told them so, asking for a replacement and hoping it would come with MM. They just sent me a replacement, and it came with Nougat already on board. But would you believe this phone works perfectly! I mean, it rocks! I have NONE Of the problems I had with the last two phones after the OTA update. So maybe the OTA really is a piece of crap. But I gotta say, it's nice to love my phone again.
