Power button Depressed? - Thunderbolt General

LOL OK depressed seemded like a good word at the time. But really it seems further
in or lower especially with ny case on, same goes for the lower volume button. I guess from reboots. Would you try and get it replaced or just take the chance that it will continue to work?

They will replace it for you, just tell them that one of the buttons is no longer working. It's a warranty replacement, I had to get mine replaced because the vol- button wasn't even a button anymore and had to be jammed in to be "pressed".

I use the silicone case, so I don't have a problem with the button...

It really seems to be hit or miss. My first thunderbolt's buttons sucked. This one is great. I dropped mine in the **** bowl... :-(

Just replaced mine today for the same reason. It was that way out of the box. I checked everything on this one to make sure it was up to par before I walked out of the store this time. Every phone has its quirks, any one who says otherwise is jaded..

I kinda feel like an idiot for being so picky but I do have the warranty. I called on the phone and they said I had to go into the store. Guess it cant hurt to try atleast its under warranty until feb. of next year.

Mine is also "depressed" lol when they replaced it, did they give you a CLNR or a brand New tbolt?

If its after 14 days you are gonna get a CLNR.

Seriously?? I'm unrooting right now to send mine back. It takes all of 10 minutes. No slower than flashing ROMs.
It's a hardware defect 99.9% of the time. You're foolish to not take advantage of warranty replacement while you have it. Come on, man!!

If they'll do it in the store, sure, I'll get around to it. Sometime before April.

Call them up and tell them that it only works if you press it in with a pen, or if you basically use all your strength just to get it to register as a "push". You shouldn't have to do anything extra just to get your phone to turn on. They tell you to go to the store because they were some lazy ass rep who didn't want to do anything. Just call back, politely explain that it's almost impossible to turn your phone on because of the power button situation (throw in some good acting skills too), and that you would like a replacement as the phone is still under warranty. If they say no, ask to speak to a supervisor, explain again, and they will replace it for you.

Ok new phone on its way. He also said a new software update was coming today(lol). They are really limiting the time you used to have for returning the phone. Used to be 15 days I think and now down to 5 days.

They dont use fed ex they used usps hmm never seen that. Well the one I got was just as bad as the one I sent it so they are sending another one. I used to be able to use my case with it but these refurbs suck.

My Inspire died!

Help! I took the phone out of my pocket and it won't turn on. Tried pulling the battery. Plugging into wall charger does not light up the LED. Tried holding down power button, holding down volume button and then press power button. No response... Any other suggestions?
Has my phone died? I only got it on Friday, and is all stock. Have not rooted, never dropped or wet the phone. This is not good.
At least it's brand new and you can get another. Sorry man

Yeah, I might have to take it back for replacement. This is not good... I hope it's just an isolated incident. Usually with an iPhone or Captivate, pretty easy to reset and bring back to life... Now I'd be scared to root and flash ROMs in the future if so easy to die.

Any new phone would be covered in the OP's case as it's within the return window and warranted by the mfgr. Insurance wouldn't need to be used.
Strange, hope it doesn't happen again!

My girlfriend bought this phone last night after i hyped it up cuz i have the evo. Anyway she got it home let it fully charge we went to use it and the screen wouldn't come on but if you held it to the light you could see all the capacitve dots (don't know if thats what they are) in the screen and you could see the clock and icons almost as if the screen was on without the backlight. so we had to pull the battery it worked for a about 15 minutes while i showed her stuff and when i went to log into the market i got a "force close" error and the htc splash screen came up and then it kinda did an awkward boot loop thing. it wouldnt stop so i pulled the battery again and now it is dead just like the OP phone no charging lights anything. i've read around the net a little bit and it don't sound like an isolated thing. i'm taking her phone back today but i don't know if i should have her stay with that htc or go toward the xperia that she was eye-ing up. sorry for the 5 page story

[Q] Random Shut Downs, Only when plugged in

i have been getting some random shut downs but only when plugged in to a wall charger. at first i figured it was due to heat while being charged. but the phone could shut down while plugged into the wall at any given time no matter how much charge there is or how long it's been plugged. Last night I plugged it in before bed at 30% and today I woke up at 44% with the phone off. Sometimes it's minutes until it shuts down and sometimes it's hours. It's the same on any Rom/Kernel I tried. Thinking it may be a hardware issue. Any ideas? Thanks.
Currently Trigger2X 14 - Faux SV 3.5
Happens to me too... I'm on stock though.
And is it me or does charging the phone off seem to be ineffective?

which makes me believe this is strictly hardware. its not really like the software related reboots of the past. too bad i can't get it to go while plugged into pc, otherwise i could check logs to see what was up. let me know if you can recreate like clockwork. thx
Its hardware trust me. I've had in total like 6 g2xs and this is the first I've had with the issue.. I also have another now.. Both have the same rom, baseband, kernel and apps. Yet my new one shuts down on the charger.... Its hardware for sure and a replacement is in route. No point trouble shooting its a bad phone.. Threes many good ones just be patient... Now to wait for replacement...
If your on your 6th G2x, did you have to pay the 20 dollar exchange fee or whatever it's called? It would get pretty expensive after your 3rd or so G2x.

no. Bought first one full price it had no issues but dust, return no fee, then I exchanged again from pixel, no fee. Thats 3. Then I sold it for a sensation. Had bad luck with the sensation so I sold traded it on CL for a G2x and cash. Well that g2x was awesome too. so thats 4. I then dropped that ***** hard and had to exchange for another no fee again because I paid 130 through asurion. Thats 5. that g2x is awesome too. Now on a new line of service I got a free g2x with a online deal, so theres 6. Thats the one Im on now and it sucks donkey doooo.
but ive had enough to know there are good ones with no issues. I knew this one was gonna have issues cause of the ratio of no issues vs hearing issues here. LoL time to hunt for the good one again. LOL then after this I got to get the other g2x replaced again cause it was dropped again, and I cant have that. So Asurion that will be.....
Wow. Asurion must love you! LOL!
Last time I gave T-Mobile support a call, they wanted 20 bucks.

Oh and only 270 for sensation used upgrade.
This sounds like a defective battery. If your phone was plugged in at 30%, then you slept all night and woke up to a 44% charge with the phone powered down, that means that the battery was not taking any incoming charge for the vast majority of the night, nor does it seem that the battery was powering the phone for the majority of the night. Charging from 30->100% should only take 2.5 hours or so - maybe 3.
It could be that when you plug it in, it heats up - and thus expands. This could cause a loose connection to the battery somewhere (maybe something as simple as the physical contacts for the battery, or could be something more intricate inside the phone).
As much as you don't want to hear it, i'd say you'll probably need to take it to a store or send it in for replacement.

Thats my thought. It's still plugged in but does not charge. Forgot to mention that it requires a battery pull to restart. So possibly the phone is not really off, just in a non responsive idle state. Im going back to stock for now to see if that changes anything. I know they will ask if I got the update so I might as well. Thanks for the info.

Half the time its off, and half in a non responsive idle state. Cause sometimes you can turn the phone on, and sometimes you need a battery pull and the ***** is hhhhhhoooottt.
I doubt theres a loose connection when it expands as the copper connections in the corner are pretty lines up and expanding would only make em touch more you would think.

Random reboots - stock

My fiance is having problems with her phone randomly rebooting. I just updated it to the most recent firmware update, so that shouldn't be the problem, but something obviously is. She wasn't getting much out of her battery life either, usually only a couple hours or so.
What can I do about it to keep her from spending money we don't have on a new phone, other than root it? She won't let me root it and set it up like mine, mostly because she's stubborn.

It looks like she's even got to pull the battery to get the thing to start back up when it shuts down. The charging port seems loose to me, but it charges the battery just fine so I'm not sure that's part of the problem.

I put her battery in my phone for the day, and it just shut down, so that was part of the problem.
She said her phone was still dead in like 4 hours today, and that was using my battery which I've had very good luck with.
I think she uses her phone a LOT for facebook and texting, but 4 hours still seems awfully short for battery life

I figured out what I think was wrong with her other battery. The contacts were set too deep inside the battery casing, so any bump at the wrong angle caused them to lose connection. That's why I don't trust second hand batteries, no matter how good other people say they are.
Both her original battery and my original battery work perfectly fine in my phone, both give me a day and a half. So I know it's not the batteries, it's something wrong with her phone.
Heck, I even offered to switch phones with her, and she said she didn't want mine even though it's exactly the same phone and even newer.

yeah, I know. Doesn't change much when it comes to problem phones other than the fact that you absolutely have to go to a Sprint owned repair center and not a store run by another company. That's where the distance factor comes in and the working with tech support to convince them it's too far to drive lol

No Power! No Lights on

Kids were playing games with this phone and one of them got pissed and throw the phone against the wall. Lucky there's no broken screen but the problem now is, this thing cannot powered on. Even with fully charged battery (charged with another HTC). Pressing both vol keys while inserting cable or vol keys while inserting battery doesn't work. Not even one led light goes up. Just dead dead! PC cannot recognize even after plugged in for several hours.

Oooh is your device still under warentee? If so I would return and perhaps say it died. If there is not signs of physical abuse you should be ok. Hopefully they can fix under warentee? By any chance have you tried another battery? I know you charged but battery could have gone bad. Also check to see if your battery is LOOSE in its area, this sometimes happens and contact cam be restored by placing some paper opposite the contact area.see if it wiggles if so try the paper at the opposite side of contact, this can restore the contract with the battery and device. If that won't work I'd call in the warentee. I wish you the best and hope your issue goes back to normal! Good luck!

I am afraid HTC will see that there's been physical abuse to the phone, since he can't see everything that's broken. When they open up the phone, it could bee possible they see something they do not want to see like a loosend chip or even a broken motherbord, and that is rather hard to achieve. Maybe he's lucky, maybe not. I don't know...
Well, in such a situation, there is very little you can do unless you are capable of repairing the phone yourself.
HTC will not provide you with warranty if there is any physical damage.
However, since there is barely any damage on the outside, try and play it off as a DOA.
Tell HTC that the phone just went dead for no reason & wouldn't switch on at all.
If you're lucky, then they give you a replacement. This is applicable only if your device is still in the warranty period.

^OT, but nonetheless, we void our warranty with S Off and conveniently get it back to stock when warranty claim is required. That doesn't seem like lying to you, does it?
All these modifications to phone software that we cover up is if course not lying, is it? We're all such moral human beings here, no?

Perhaps this is true, but S-OFF doesn't actually do any damage. Giving yourself the opportunity to flash a better rom than HTC chooses to provide us doesn't really do anything bad, it's only bad if you severely mess it up and have to send it back (and I still don't agree with performing S-ON to send it back for warranty).
To me, there's a pretty big difference between unlocking your phone's potential and giving your phone to a living catapult. The way I see it, smartphones are not toys. They can act as entertainment devices, but they are not toys. It's funny to see eight year olds bumping into people because they're too busy playing pinball on their iPhone 4S. You know it's bound to be dropped, scuffed, screen shattered, water damaged. You know it's gonna happen whether they're two years old or twelve years old. If you're that determined, get them a used iPod Touch and if they can maintain it, great. If not, well, there ya go.

Fair enough.
OP, there is a hardware issue with your device. I am almost certain it was caused by a child throwing it. You can take it to someone hoping it can be repaired, hopefully it's something as simple as a terminal that runs to the battery popping loose. You can also send it to HTC, to which they will repair it for a nominal fee, likely around one hundred and fifty USD.
They will definitely not repair it for free, because it was physically damaged. You can also lie to them, and hope they will cover it as a seemingly randomly dead unit, but odds are they will open it up and see physical damage. From there, they'll probably send it back to you - in it's previous condition.
Well firstly ouch. Secondly if it is the battery the device should boot with the USB in + no battery. Might help. Maby like my old TV it just needs another *light* bash?

I want you to try this on your phone right now and then proceed to eat your words. You cannot turn on the phone without a battery because the circuit is incomplete!
Ok boys, PC can now recognize phone as "Zeus Flash Device". Where do I go from here. I'm hoping if I flash something, it could put phone back to normal stage at least with lights on.

Phantom touches?

hey guys, new to the m8 here but I'm already having issues sadly. I'm getting phantom touches randomly. I'll be in hangouts or any app, and all of a sudden the home button will just hit itself. I see the gray glow around the button, and it returns home. if I quickly go back to hangout with the keyword up, I'll notice that it'll add a random letter before I start typing.
is this a touchscreen issue or a software issue? I bought the phone used from a friend. hopefully someone can help shed some light on this.

This use to happen to me when I was in Playstore installing apps, it would just hit home button everytime or hit app I didn't mean to tap on. I would say its touchscreen issue and I would calibrating my device using the "G-Sensor Calibration" in the "Display & gestures" section if you didn't know that already.

but do you think it's hardware and it should be returned?

If you ask me I wouldn't return it but if the issue still recurs return it or exchange for another one if possible.

well the thing is its used, I bought it off a friend. he said he only ever had the issue when it was plugged in, and he always figured it was because he wasn't using the HTC charger. I first noticed it when it was plugged in but then I noticed it when it was unplugged still.
also, to note, that same thing happened to me in the play store. I was downloading all my apps when I set it up and it kept randomly going home. I'm trying to decide what to do because I haven't paid him yet because he's letting me use it for a few days to see if I like it. I do really like it but I just want to figure this out.
I've had touch screen issues with my nexus 7 which are very annoying, but they seem to be software related so I'm hoping maybe flashing a rom might help on here..

I had this same issue and had to get it replaced. I would return it if you can't get a warranty replacement.

For the warranty replacement does Verizon check the bootloader first dealing with a replacement?
I have this issue too but only in Gmail. Doesn't bother me too much

I'm not really sure, but HTC gave me a hard time about being S-Off but I eventually talked them out of charging me for the replacement.
I then had issues with the replacement that HTC sent me so I dealt with VZW on getting that one replaced.
I made sure to set that one back to S-On as I didn't want to deal with Verizon over an unlocked bootloader.

That's good to know but do you think Verizon would say anything if my bootloader said Relocked instead off Locked?
I'm not sure, I only know that HTC gave me a hard time and my device was locked, not relocked. I'd guess that VZW doesn't have a thorough check like HTC does, but it is a risk.
hmm. seems like a hardware issue then. i really tried to like the phone..used it for 1 day and then realized it's not for me. although those speakers are amazing, the phone is HUGE for having such a small screen (i'm used to the nice, bezel-less LG G2) so it isn't really worth it for me to spend $350 on. plus, the battery was pretty bad. immediately after taking it off the charger overnight, it dropped to 99% within a minute..within like 30 minutes of morning usage, i was already down to like 82% (which reminded me of the Droid DNA days with it's awful battery...) compared to my G2 which stays at 100% for about 1.5 hours and 20 minutes screen on time. by the time i leave the house in the morning for work, i'm typically at 95%. the M8 was at like 82%. i sometimes get home after work and my G2 is at 75%. the M8 was at 30% after light usage throughout the day. yeah, idc what evreyone says about the M8's battery, it just isn't good enough for me.
Wow. That's awful battery life. Almost what I used to get on my rezound. I would definitely have returned my m8 if I got battery life like that. Something must be wrong with yours. I usually get through my 16hr day with about 70% left, even closer to 80% if I don't use it much. I think the best I ever got out of this phone was almost 3 days and over 8 hours screen time. It can sometimes be a chore to get good life out of this phone though. I constantly fight with this thing to get it to sleep but it's mostly issues with Google and their very annoying play services.
