Hello,
I resided in Colorado here in the states. I want to obtain a Sensation 4G from Canada (Bell or Virgin Mobile) but despite hours of trying to figure this out I simply can not figure out how to import one. Bell and VM will not ship to the US and they also want a person to sign up for a 30 day term even buying a unlocked full price phone. On top of this I can not seem to find an resellers who will ship one of these to me here in the US.
To clarify I am on AT&T and as such need one of these phones as T-Mobile's model will not work for 4G
Any advice on this would be great, Thank you.
id hate to say it, but youre SOL for the time being...bell HATES their hardware going anywhere but bell, and as for virgin, theyre a little more leinent, but wont ship out of canada...your best bet is to try to strike an arrangement/deal with a canadian XDA member to buy and ship one to you...
the other downside is that the canadian S4G isnt carrier unlocked yet
Thank you very much for the information, this is exactly what I feared. I think I might need to just put my money in my sock drawer for now and wait at atleast for them to start unlocking the phones before going through the hassle of contacting a friend in Canada to have them ship me a phone.
Thanks again.
I bought a Bell Sensation 4G from Wireless Wave for the full price ($549 CAD). There were no hassles, contracts, etc.
The only downside at the moment is there are no unlock codes available for Bell Sensation IMEIs; supposedly, this should become available this week.
There are several online shops that will ship to you, I have one myself. Just waiting for the unlock codes

Shame neither location has them, and they are significantly more expensive then the cell carrier prices.
i am also curious what carrier your phone is locked to?

I use Att as well, the phone is locked to Bell at the moment. Just waiting till the unlocked codes are available.
Check the unlock threads in General guys, the codes are out. Should be super easy to get one now as long as your willing to pay full price.

We'd like to hope so. But I am asking owners of these specific models, bought from CDN carriers, to confirm that fact once and for all.
it will be in violation of the google / nexus brand if they locked
google will not let telcos tarnish their image
Actually when Nexus one was sold by videotron and Mobilicity they were locked.

Nope they weren't - it was confirmed that the Mobi N1 came unlocked. Don't know about Videotron's, but I presume the same.
Still, Bell/Telus/Rogers just don't seem like the kind of companies to allow themselves to sell something without a SIM lock. Which is why I'm asking about the NS.
I can personally confirm the Telus NS is unlocked (sim) using both a virgin and Rogers Sim.

Was told repeatedly by the Telus salesman that the phone was locked. He allowed me to try my sim and it got a signal so I'm pretty sure ALL nexus S phones are unlocked despite what Rogers/Telus/Bell are claiming. They just automatically respond "the phone is locked" because they're trained sheep.
I can confirm that the Nexus I purchased today at Future Shop on Rogers was completely unlocked.

And they've probably been told to spew that disinformation so people will buy from their own carrier rather than somewhere else at a cheaper price, and to prevent users from travelling with a prepaid SIM card.

I stopped by a local Telus store last night hoping to play with a demo, but they claimed they didn't have any and no demo. The manager told me they won't have any available for sale until April 15th. I then stopped by a BestBuy and they didn't have a demo and was told they don't have any stock but would sell me one outright from Telus stock if they had it. Futureshop has some, but they said they don't have the outright/no contract SKU in their system (bogus info as they want a contract sale). Other carriers are not selling until next week, even if they have stock.
This really is a messy launch...I don't mind waiting but the complete lack of dissemination of information, inconsistent sales information, and staggered launch dates is not very flattering for Google. And I can only imagine how customers will react to this sloppiness.

You can't buy from robelus without either a multi-year contract or severely over-inflated prices, and you can't buy from anyone else without paying full price up front. Nobody loses a dime by buying from the wrong carrier.... except for the carrier who lost the sale.
Note about these phones... as I understand it, there are TWO versions being sold in Canada... the AWS version (sold by Wind, Mobilicity, Videotron), and the PCS version (sold by robelus). It is BETTER TO BUY THE AWS VERSION!!! The PCS version will NOT WORK with Wind, Mobilicity, or Videotron. The AWS version will only not work with BELUS, it will work with everything else.

Don't be so biased...the AWS version is only useful to those on 1700/AWS band, so obviously it's the one to get if you're with Wind or the others. If you're with Bell or the others then the obvious choice is the NAM version. And the 850/1900/NAM version also works in Europe just like the AWS version as both have 2100 radios.

I would not wish on any phone geek the torture of owning a an awesome new "superphone" that feels so snappy and delightful in so many ways... but can't access the 3G speeds they're already paying for.
Buy the phone that matches your carrier's frequencies. There are plenty of these to go around. If you switch to another carrier, trade it. Or hold out for something like the LG G2X which will be quad-band UMTS 850/AWS/1900/2100 *and* dual-core.

When i went in on Thursday night, I was told the same thing. They had stock, but it was not in the system. This is true for consumers. Fortunately, I'm a corporate customer and a quick call to my sales rep got everything sorted out, turns out the business sku's ARE in the system. After about 1/2 hour, i walked out of the store with my phone.
I hope you where not the guy behind me who was told "No, you can't have one" by the sales rep while i was unboxing mine. I felt really bad for that guy.
Also keep in mind that not all telus stores are the same. Look in your phone book for Telus and go to one of those stores, not on of the "Telus by XXXXX". When you get into a store owned and operated by Telus, you can get a lot more done.
People have bought the Sensation for $600 retail from Walmart. It's being disussed here. I just wanted to give a heads up it has S-ON in case this helps anyone.

Reboot the phone while holding the volume down button. You should see a white screen. At the first line you can read either "SHIP S-ON" or "SHIP S-OFF". If it is S-ON, it is locked. You can then exit this menu by removing the battery.

If the top line had read S-OFF my bank account would be $600 lighter right now. I'll just wait to get a most likely locked one from T-Mobile.

Does anyone really care about carrier lock these days? Every carrier has a version of these models rebranded with a new name for their own networks these days. These phones arent really worth using on unsupported networks running in 2G EDGE mode at best. If you want the sensation but you are an ATT customer than you buy an Inspire. If you're a verizon customer then you buy a Thunderbolt. Unlocking was only useful years ago when certain carriers were the only one's to get certain types of phones, and really only brought into the mainstream when the iPhone was released.

We're not talking about SIM/carrier lock...we're talking about S-ON or S-OFF...so we can flash our devices with a custom ROM, like CyanogenMod.
Anyway, the Inspire is not similar to the Sensation at all, except it's HTC and has a 4.3 inch screen. The HTC Desire HD is the phone you're thinking of The Desire HD was the original, then came the Inspire, then came the Thunderbolt. Although I guess you could argue that the EVO 3D was first, then the Desire HD, etc etc
i payed 599 but with the 30 day price guarantee you will be fine.. if it is cheaper off contract anyone else in the next 30 days guess who is going back to walmart. receipt in hand

No, but you can get an unlock code from TMo if you're a long-time customer. Or you can get the Vodaphone version which is sim-unlocked
I printed off a TMo-News article where T-Mobile announced it would be 549.99 off contract, and Wal-Mart matched it.
I just picked up a bell sensation and I can't find any company that has an unlock code for it. Anyone know how long it takes for the unlockers to get the codes from htc?
Try Cellunlocker. I got 2 Sensations unlocked from them for 19.99 each. Got the unlock codes within 4 hours. Mine were the T-Mobile version but they unlock the Bell version as well.
So far it seems no one has successfully unlocked the Bell versions. I spoke to a Bell rep today who said their HTC Sensation would not be issued unlock codes like their other models.
Is there any other way to unlock the device?
Can you confirm that the bell sensation has a protective lens for the camera. I went to the source and they have a dummy phone for bell sensation and it had a lens so that the camera is not recessed. Can you confirm this?
I went to cellunlocker and tried searching up my bell sensation IMEI that starts with a 35644 and it did say it had the unlock code for it. I also did the same with htcimeunlock but they did not have the code for my IMEI. I have no experience ordering from cellunlocker so i have no idea whether or not the site was telling the truth.

Many sites are selling the NAM sensation as "unlocked" and some have already shipped to buyers like Nergi Electronics. I can't imagine that they would have sold theses unless they were unlocked. I am waiting for mine and I called the place I am getting it from and they told me it is 100% unlockled.
I tried both those sites and they couldn't unlock the phone. I was told it would take a couple of days to get the updated tables. I really hope they can unlock this phone I can't think of any htc phone that didn't have an unlock.
Eventually there will be an unlock, it may be a bit soon as the phone was just officially released today (Bell) and mitigating factors like Bell are probably getting in the way.

It seems Rogers has burned some bridges (particularly the one with HTC). Bell has great phones out. I'm actually amazed... I switched to them for a few months and their coverage in my town was out of this world.
I reluctantly switched back to Rogers for the amazing retention rate plan and features I had though. I hope they take a page out of what Bell's doing though. They've stepped up their game considerably.

Hey Everyone,
I sell alot of Unlock Codes on eBay and to other reseller websites online.
The current HTC Database is out of date and the next update is expected sometime next week.
Once the DB is updated all BELL HTC Sensations will have a code. For now there is no point trying different guys/websites, because in the end it is ONE database that everyone checks against.
Here is my HTC Sensation auction for unlock codes, but BELL IS NOT SUPPORTED RIGHT NOW.

But the main question is still when will the servers be updated..
I tired of carrying around a phone that I cannot use. Not that I don't like my Atrix,
I just want a bigger screen.
By the way I tried mobileincanada.com and they don't have the code and they gave me a refund withing 2 hours without me having to ask for it.
I ** highly ** recommend them as another option when the servers are updated.
I also tried gsmconnexxion and have not got a refund yet, it's been 2 days and i'm still waiting.
Well lets get back to the main question again

Thanks for the update fr0z3n. It gives me hope that Bell won't be locking down the device forever.
@fr0z3n: Thanks for the info, please keep us updated as to when the server gets updated.
I noticed that in your eBay link that you are selling the codes for $25.99US each while mobileincanada.com is $20CDN even. Are you willing to beat the mobileincanada.com price? Please note that I do realize that selling on eBay carries extra costs for the listings/final price fees, but what if we were to purchase from you outside of eBay? Is a group deal possible if a bunch of us get together and make a commitment to purchase a code from you when they are available?
Yes if it is a group deal then I can do $19.00 CAD (NOT USD) or $20 USD.
The margins for HTC codes are very low, but for a group deal I can certainly provide that.
I have looked everywhere (Expansys, Popular Electronics, eBay) for the HTC Sensation (Bell Canada model so I can get 3G in USA) but only Negri has it on back order.. any other leads for me?
thanks!

I'm looking to sell my ATT Htc OneXL and have had inquiries from overseas (currently I'm in the US). If I sell this to someone overseas, as is (no unlocked anything etc) will it still be able to work in whichever country they're in with a sim card they buy (I know LTE isn't available abroad)? And if that's not the case, will unlocking it via the new 2.20 exploit method, allow someone to use it overseas? Thanks!

It "can" work on other carriers sim cards but it must first be sim-unlocked which most not be confused with the bootloader unlocked that you refered to as the new 2.20 exploit. ATT will sim-unlock your device for free if your account with them is in good standing, and there are other sites that will sim-unlock your device for a small fee. The 2.20 exploit has nothing to do with the sim card though.
In isolated cases, some people have been having trouble getting the SIM unlocked from paid unlocking services. If that is the case for the foreign buyer, they are going to be dissatisfied, and probably seek a return/refund, even if you state in the terms of the transaction that the phone is sold as-is and SIM locked. You would still be in the right to refuse a return, but its going to result in a pissed-off buyer, nonetheless. Not a position I would want to be in, personally. Plus, I would think that there would be enough interest from US buyers, that you would not have to hassle with a foreign sale. Especially once you add in the cost of shipping to a foreign location.
And as already mentioned, root and bootloader unlock do not get you SIM unlock. Might be possible with S-Off, but that has not yet been achieved. There is no way to get SIM unlock, aside from AT&T or paid services.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm in good standing with ATT (as far as I know) and would prefer to get it sim-unlocked on my end before shipping it overseas just so the buyer has no problems with it.
I've had a hard time finding a US buyer. I've posted the phone on Swappa and Craigslist. Lots of looks but no real interest it seems like. If you can recommend some other places I might be able to try and sell it, I would appreciate it. Thanks for the info none the less!
I think 11/06/2012 is the date AT&T will officially start to allow the One X to be sim unlocked (by them for free). AT&T Customer care will let you know for sure. The online unlocking guys do it for less than $5 if you don't have luck with AT&T or don't have the patience to wait for them. Price is the key factor in selling anything, if priced right it will go fast. Priced poorly and it will linger with little interest.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm in good standing with ATT (as far as I know) and would prefer to get it sim-unlocked on my end before shipping it overseas just so the buyer has no problems with it.

AT&T may or may not give the SIM unlock code to you. Technically, they don't need to give it to you for a period of 10 months after the phone was released (May 2012) per their policy. But have given the code for some devices after 6 months (which is right about now). Some people have already gotten the code for the One X. Being a long time customer, and multiple lines may have been a factor. There is really no guarantee. But certainly doesn't hurt to ask.

eBay. Lots more exposure than Craigslist (just going to get local attention), and I've never even heard of Swappa. Maybe I'm just out of the loop about that website. But everyone has heard of eBay.
Looks like some really good activity on eBay for the AT&T One X. Not surprising, since its a great phone still. Not sure what you expect to get. But it looks like lots of AT&T One X's going for $200-300 with time still left in the auctions (depending on condition).
I called and 11/6/12 is the end of the att HTC one x exclusive thingy. This was two weeks ago but my phone was already unlocked when it arrived.
