People that have had Asurion replace their phones... - T-Mobile LG G2x

I am getting a replacement tomorrow from Asurion. Now, if I have any further issues with the new phone, will I need to continue to go through them, or can I go through T-Mobile?
I bought my phone in-store for what that's worth...

You should be able to do it through the Manufacturer (LG) and/or T-Mobile.

First, why did you get a replacement with Asurion and not with T-Mobile?
The answer may depend on your answer to this question, why?
Because:
If it was because you lost your phone or physical damage, then I am pretty sure T-Mobile will take care of it if something does not function correctly.
If it was because T-Mobile didn't want to exchange it like they have been doing with some other people, then obviously they wont exchange next time either.
FYI, I haven't done a replacement with Asurion, this is just what I believe.

Thanks for the opinions but has anyone done this before? I am replacing it due to a broken screen/water. Who drops their phone in a puddle and breaks their screen at the same time? This guy.
Thanks guys

actually asurion isnt all that bad but get ready or the hefty deductable. they base it off the msrp iirc. you'll probably have to pay like 150$ or more at least. Also theres a chance they dont cover water damage. GL

The deductible is based on what tier the phone is. High end smartphones are third tier I believe and the deductible is $130

Just went through this with assurion, when sweat soaked through my armband and killed the screen, or the video card rather. $ 130, and a refurb, but WAY better battery life, and real stable. Of course my other one was stable until wet.

Exchange with t-mobile

I brought this mytouch off Craigslist by trading with my G2. The phone is starting some problems as with not turning the screen on when after a phone call and I got the bad screen on it.
Now I don't know if this phone is stolen or not or the person got it from the insurance by claiming Its lost.
Now do you think T-Mobile will exchnage it? I can't deal with the screen not turning on anymore so yeah.

I am sure this is the reason the owner sold it in first place, I bet the person gave you lame story about how he changed carrier or got it as gift or some BS and he already has something lol so he didn't need it.
This is why I warn folks about buying jack from eBay or Craigslist when first batch came out month ago that means alot of inferior device that shouldn't have passed QC got though. Your best bet is going via HTC device warranty as TMo itself will not honor yours as they have no proof of this device was valid transaction linked to your account. Also the remorse period is only though TMo not by 3rd party individuals.
Thanks for the reply Mr.HKM, He told me he had 2 of these and he wanted to get rid of it so I'm guessing he used the insurance company to get another by saying it was lost.
Is it worth a shot with T-Mobile? or Should I call up HTC tomrrow and see what they can do? The thing is, I don't want to be left phoneless though, that's the only thing that's going to be bad for me.
Would my best bet be selling it back on Craigslist and getting another one?
I bought my HD2 off craigslist and transfered my insurance to it by calling tmo and asking them if I could. It was originally the insurance I had on my touch pro 2. My nexus one was insured by that other company.
I never had to use it on the hd2 so I don't know how that would work. After I bought the MT4G I had the guy at the store transfer my insurance to it.
Its worth a shot calling tmo. From my experience they are wing willing to work with you.

Maybe prick got it buy one get one free though adding family members with contract. Best place to buy it now is though TMo as like you I also considered buying it via CL/eBay but after I saw the rate of bad display, ffc, creaky buttons I decide it to just shall out the full $450 and get it without contract. Didn't want the hassle as I lost my HD2 and was left with dumbphone lol trust me its no fun.
Well this is what you can do just skip it all as TMo will not help you so just contact HTC rep and request RMA for it. While you are sending it go to local TMo store and get "loner" phone while its taken care of. You can contact the seller but I am sure the prick will ignore you as kid will be like its your problem now.
Update: Do as MvP77 said then first with TMo it won't hurt long as you get it taken care of if not then you become the prick and get it of your hand ASAP by selling it to someone else lol
Ugh I looked at T-Mobile website about device warranty under T-Mobile and it looks like you cannot transfer warranties from another customer. Pretty much bumed out at this point.
Should I post of on Craigslist asap and get rid of it and buy another one and risk getting a **** screen and or just keep this?
I flashed iced galicer on it and the screen comes on after a call so I'm just worried about the screen for now.

I have known and helped people who bought through ebay or craigslist get a replacement through T-Mo. It's not a fool proof way but it has worked for some.
First thing is hopefully you are a T-Mo customer? Then don't use the online chat, call them on the phone. Just ask for Tech support. Here is what you are trying to accomplish, you need to get your IMEI # in their system to have a chance. So since this device came out with a OTA (Over the Air update) the same day it launched it is a plus for you. If your IMEI # is not in the system you will never get the update. So when you call and get to the rep just explain to him you are having some problems with very poor battery life and your video chat is not working properly, poor signal etc. Tell him you knew there was a OTA update but you have never received it, and you want to see if this will fix your problems first before deciding on a warranty replacement. If they ask you where you got it tell them you got it from a T-Mobile Store and you bought it full price. Whatever you do don't tell them craigslist. Stay firm on you buying it in a store no matter how many times they ask. Now the above might not even come up but be prepared in case. Noe tell the tech support rep could he please make sure that your IMEI number is correct in their system as you have never received the update. Your number might be in there and it might not. Likely it is not. I had one that was wrong for a whole month from when I changed from my G2. They will ask you for your number and give it to them. If they don't find it they will try to put it in. If the IMEI number is not in their database they will tell you also and ask where you bought it. Stick to the plan. Tell them you don't know why it's not in their system all you did is buy it in their store it should be in the system and you paid full price for it it better be in the system. now I have actually had this happen on one of my early replacements. And I really did get it from a store. They finally said they could manually enter it and override the system. Now if you get this done your almost there. Tell them thank you and you will be waiting for the update and hopefully it fixes the issues if not you will call back. Wait a day or two. The call back and when you here the automated attendant say cancel. This gets you to a higher level rep. Tell the about the problems and you are disappoint that you paid full price and now you have all these problems and the OTA update did not correct them. You are loosing data connection and they stay off for long periods of time. Tell them you have already been to a store and they changed your SIM card and that you have already talked to tech support and factory master reset with them twice and they said it is defective. You said you would give it another chance but it did not get any better. Now hopefully they will process you a exchange and send it to you and then you send yours back..
I hope this help and you get a good one. If all else fails go through HTC.

I've bought a few different phones off Craigslist and got them all exchanged through warranty. As long as its still under the manufacturers warranty they should exchange it. All they did was look up the imei to verify its still under warranty. This is my experience with T-Mob, so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to exchange it. Now, if its a stolen or lost phone, they might not. Let us know how it goes for you. Hope you get a good one.

Trust ME
as long as you have insurance which is 5.99 a month for the php bundle then it will cover the phone...just call in do troubleshooting and hey will replace it as long as there not liquid damage or physical damage....u dont pay anything not even shipping and hanlding
Alright, I'm going to give it a shot today.
This took ne at a surprise, I went and logged on to my T-Mobile and it shows the white mytouch as my phone... so I'm guessing they already know I have a mytouch?

For someone like me that switches phones alot and usually pays full or close to full price the insurance its nice. It would suck if it was like sprints insurance where you gotta pay a deductible.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I think T-Mobile does also make you pay a deductible also. Not sure, but I do change phones a lot and not sure if insurance would cover non T-Mobile phones like the iPhone.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Lockeskidney not everyone sells there soul by signing 2year contract and having to pay more than its actually worth. Now lets say this as I never considered insurance. I usually buy the device without contract at full price from valid vendor now if I lose it how much is the deductible? I am sure everyone ATM here some how doing insurance fraud false claiming it as lost.

[Q] Bad Esn!?

I need some advice peeps. I thought I lost my new charge couldn't find it for two days, took a rafting trip and hadn't seen it since. I fig it for gone down the river. I made a claim with asurion and the new phone came ystdy, in the meantime I found my phone buried under my seat in my truck. I charged it and powered it up to discover that it is still working as of today even after I made the claim thru asurion a few days ago. Now I have an extra phone. Is it illegal or does anyone know if I can sell one of the two phones. I figured my original would be flagged with a bad ESN? What should I do, I thought about giving one to my brother but don't want to get him in trouble or think I ran a scam. I did have to pay 99 dollars for the replacement, help???? WWYD???

It happens. In the previous days, your ESN (which is 'burned' into the SOC) would be trashed when you activate the new phone. Today, though, since LTE phones are now SIM based, a new SIM might activate the old phone just fine. It's possible, though, that the claim trashed the IMEI, but there's no way to tell without talking directly to Verizon.
Keeping it constitutes insurance fraud, and yes, that's illegal. The right thing to do, legally and ethically, is to call Asurion and tell them you found your original phone. They'll probably send you a box and tell you to ship one of the phones back.
If you are still using the phone you lost you can.still sell the new one.you got in the same thing happen to me

Technically is it Fraud? I'm just asking not saying it's not indeed. That's why I posted because I'm torn. I've paid on insurance for at least the last 5 years and never made a claim @ almost 7 dollars a month for insurance. I needed my phone ASAP and made the claim. Did I overreact, maybe, but now I forked our 99 dollars plus close to half a grand that I've paid insurance over the last 5 years. Honest mistake now I have two phones. If its not illegal I wouldn't mind just letting my brother have the phone or maybe keep it as a spare etc.. IDK really??
Its insurance fraud plain and simple...the right thing to do is call them and telthen you found it

Actually, it's not fraud, since he believed the phone was lost and made the claim in good faith.
Fraud is a very strict legal term, the primary facet of which is intent.
Now, if it was a situation like we've seen before where the phone is having problems and he didn't want to pay to get it replaced out of warranty so instead claimed it lost, then THAT would be fraud.
This kind of thing happens all the time.
I would advise against selling the phone, since that would make your motives suspect to anyone investigating the situation.
If it will activate with a fresh SIM, however, then use it as spare or give it to your brother.

IDK, I really am torn, my bro's phone is junk and he's not eligible for the upgrade. If I were to take my chances should I keep the new sim in my old phone and give him my old sim in the new one or just keep the sims with the phones they are in now, or would it even matter?

The old sim is probably toast, anyway due to the claim.
Right now, you should be running a new SIM in your new phone. That's the one that's active on your account.
Maybe someone more familiar with the SIM activation process can chime in about a potential process.
Edit: Of course, it's also entirely possible that they burned the IMEI with the claim as well, making your old phone a very stylish and expensive MP3 player.

But, here's the kicker, I haven't even activated my new phone, I'm still currently using the original phone and sim, so go figure, it's not toast as of yet, should I just keep it on the DL for a month or so and see if they shut my current device down?

I'm surprised they haven't burned the SIM or the IMEI. At this point, you're out of my experience range, so I don't want to say something that could cause problems.
I would be willing to bet that IMEI on the original phone has been or is in the process of being flagged as stolen/bad/whatever. Blacklisted so it cannot be activated on VZW again. It would work on a different network like Cricket if it can be flashed but it could be that it doesn't happen until the replacement is activated. I would toss the old one in a drawer or sell as a bad ESN device without a sim or use it only as a PDA on wifi at the house. If you were to sell the new one, and keep the original, when the other guy activates it and your phone stops working its going to suck. Not saying this will happen for sure, but not worth trying. I would call Verizon and ask them what will happen.
If you're worried enough about it to ask here, then just do the right thing and call them and send the replacement back.

You are wrong sir plain and simple.
See, ask yourself how did the OP get an insurance claim? He claimed the phone was lost or stolen (doesn't matter) and because his was lost... He filed a.claim...
Asurion claims it as a loss...and ships him out an insurance replacement...
Now, if or should he find the phone?
That phone belongs to Asurion NOT the OP. Get it?
Why does it belong to Asurion?

At that point Asurion (the company, not a dude named Asurion) was done with the deal. They have no interest in the old phone. It was written off a long time ago. They report the claim to Verizon who then does their part and blacklists the IMEI/ESN so that device cannot be reused on their network. Its over. He doesn't owe Asurion anything as he paid for a service he didn't use for the longest time and finally got to use it in a manner that was completely non-fradulent and valid. The OP should do whatever he wants with the phone but I wouldn't trust it.

If he chooses to keep the phone now that he's found it, that's intent. He should have read his agreement with Asurion. Legally, the phone now belongs to them.
Asurion's terms clearly state for lost/stolen phones that if the phone is ever found it is required to be sent back to them.

That's why I don't buy insurance. A few months after getting a phone you can find a replacement for cheap enough because they released 5 newer models since then. To hell with insurance. Between the deductible and monthly premiums you technically already paid for the phone they send you. Its like a savings account that can only be used on a (now outdated) cell phone. Not exactly a bargain IMO.

Also why I don't buy it..way overpriced for what you get...full coverage insurance on a vehicle that cost 30k is around 100 to 200 a month...so like .5%. The same on a 400 dollar phone is 7 a month...about 2%...do it costs 4 times more to insure a phone than my vehicle...no thanks

Exchanged my AT&T One X today, the difference is night and day!

I have been posting here a little since getting my HTC One X (S4), mostly a little negative as I had been having bad battery and mostly bad reception (which lead to bad battery). I got it on 5/6 and even had the SIM card replaced thinking that was the issue. Data speeds were horrible (I'm in a "4g" area only, no LTE) and would be lucky if I got 1Mbps.
So today I went to Radio Shack and got it replaced. Holy Cow! I just got 3.75Mbps at home, where the most I ever got was just over 1Mbps on the defective one. Went to the gas station, speeds were still great and even in the movie theater I got a solid 2Mbps. My big test will be tonight to see if it still switches to EDGE at night as the old one always did.
TL;DR: If you think you have a defective unit with bad reception/battery, go replace it! And keep replacing it until you're satisfied!

Couldn't you guys who got it from AT&T return it and get it from somewhere else?
I'm not sure how that return policy works, like do you get your "upgrade" back if you return the phone? Couldn't you then just keep returning phones every 29 days and always have the latest and greatest? lol

Problem is that they're greedy and want restocking fee regardless of exchange or return. So now it doesn't make sense to exchange. Return it and buy the other one.
It's not being sneaky or cheap. ATT just has a greedy, bad business practice.
Bought a 3gs and exchanged it for the HOX. HOX was bad took it back literally a day or two later. They said too bad. No exchange. I had to go through warranty repair. HTC was shocked that my phone was purchased days before and they sent me to them for an exchange instead of doing so in store.
Auto sales aren't even done that way anymore. Worst part was the store manager was giving me the whole ATT did me a courtesy speech for allowing the first exchange. What courtesy? I paid $35, got a different phone and it was defective and you told me to bad, talk to HTC.
While I'm on a roll I might as well keep going. Another issue I ran into during this ordeal was that I needed to return to the original place of purchase...what difference does it make if it was a corp. store?
Done with my rant...Sorry

wow, you have every right to rant after an experience like that! I'm sorry you got treated that way. Just to set the record straight, though, that's absolutely NOT company policy for AT&T corporate-owned stores. Since your One X was DOA, you should not have to pay a restocking fee. I worked for AT&T Retail until a couple weeks ago, and we wouldn't have done that... sounds like you ran up against greedy, bad people.
Oh yeah, and it doesn't master where you return it. As long as it's a corporate store. Are you sure the second place wasn't an authorized retailer? Either that, or they only had one or two left in stock.

When dealing with att, its always a good practice to deal with corporate stores only. And that is sometimes hard to tell the difference...99% of the corporate stores will do the right thing..when buying phones I use best buy because they are usually a little cheaper but more so that they offer a $0 deductible warranty and a $30 buyback program where they offer you at least $125 in 2 Yeats towards purchase of new phone..can trade before 2 years and get even bigger credit towards new phone..$125 is just the least you will get...well worth the $30 l. Just my 2 cents..

The day I got it, I looked at mine and said...whoa.
The camera bezel isn't flush with the phone.
I'm NOT DUMB. I know it sticks out. - that's what the guy at AT&T said to me...what an idiot...
I mean like...where the bezel is set into the device, it sticks out a little.
Not to mention, I unlocked the device this morning to notice that the backlight of the recent apps button? Doesn't work anymore.
Needless to say, I emailed them about a possibly warranty replacement.
I LOVE the device - it's amazing! But...I don't think I can live with that when I paid for it outright...

whoa! that's crazy! I got mine at radio shack and they did tell me that I was "suppose" to go back to the store I bought it at, but that was 250 miles away so she did it anyways. but the craziest part was that I actually got about 20 bucks back because the price of the phone had gone down. I paid no restocking fee either. based on all the stories I don't think I'll ever buy straight from att.

What's The Best Insurance To Go With

I was doing some research and was wondering what insurance everyone else is using. What is the best insurance company to g with and why?
I also was wondering does the Samsung galaxy S3 have a 1 year warranty like the iPhone?

I think almost all phones have a standard 1 year warranty. For insurance, i have Asurion through Verizon. However, there are others such as Squaretrade.
Anyone know how Asurion and Squaretrade insurance compares to Best Buy's insurance? I bought my GS3 at BB.
I am wondering also. Best buy told me they changed their warranty policy and do not try to fix the phone anymore, they just replace it.... I wonder if they lied?
I bought my phobe from ebay... Can i still insure it???
VERIZON GALAXY S 3
Asurion is more expensive than squartrade but asurion offers lost or stolen correct? can you insure with BB if you didnt buy it there?

Best Buy changed that a long time ago. I had the service plan on them with my old evo and I brought it in witha problem 4 or 5 times. I dropped it off, paid a $50 deposit and 2 or 3 days later I would get a basically new phone from them, drop off the loaner phone and get my deposit back. It's pricy ($10/mo) but it covers water damage, physical damage, defects and just about anything else. I just bought my GS3 there yesterday and got the service plan again and it's still the same coverage but they added a thing where if you trade in that phone when you are done with it you get $50 back on top of the trade in price. Pretty damned good deal if you ask me.

They said they would insure any new phone thats less than 30 days old. even if you didnt buy it there.
I use the best buy insurance. 10 a month on the 2 s3s and a g nex. If you get the full coverage and have an extra phone you can use you won't have to pay for a loaner phone. Also no deductible. Assurion is complete joke. 100 dollar deductibles and you will only get 2, YES 2 phones. I did this with my htc thunderbolt and received a letter in the mail from them stating that my insurance is dropped because I reached the 2 phone limit.
Insurance? What's that? I've never carried it lol.

For better or worse, it seems that Verizon treats you differently if you have insurance through them/Asurion. A couple of years ago, I was having a problem with my LG Voyager and took it in to them. They told me it was a known problem with the phone, and they were going to let me pick from three other phones right there at the store.
A co-worker's wife had the same phone with the same problems, so I told them to go in and try and get the replacement. When they went in, they were told they couldn't get a free replacement phone like I did, and that it was because they didn't have the insurance on the phone.
I've used insurance enough in the past to warrant me continuing to use it, so when I heard this, I figured I'll just stick with Verizon's Aurion insurance due to the benefits that possibly come with it.

This.
I've also been eying ensquared. It looks like the best, but I'd like to hear if anyone has experience with them.
The BB insurance seems like the way to go. So basically for $10 a month you continually drop your phone, and you will get a brand new device each time? Not that I would do that, but it would be nice to have that piece of mind instead of having to worry so much about your phone...
I will definitely be buying my next phone from them if they don't change this policy.

VZ rep told me a $199 deductible. When I started laughing at her, she said it was an $800 device. I declined.
Okay ya it asurion is a 100 dollar deductible but it covers lost and stolen phones. No other does that I know of without having a deductible. Best buy is 10 dollars a month combine that with asurion so your covered if its lost or stolen. That's 17 dollars a month or 204 dollars year. 2 year contract that's 408 dollars.

Question about Tmobile insurance

Hi everyone.
So for the first time, I plumped for insurance. Because I am so paranoid about breaking that screen on my S8+.
I've never had it before (I had Apple Care on my iPhone) and am just curious as to your experiences of T-Mobile's plan. I was toying with going with Samsung's Premium Care because it says they deliver a replacement to your door, but the Tmobile guy convinced me to try theirs instead.
What I'm wondering is what happens if you break the screen? (I'm guessing people did this with the S7E and the S6E).. Say I call Tmobile and tell them, do they make me send the phone off for repair or do they ship a replacement out to me and then we swap? I'm used to Apple Care where they would take the deductible and then just replace in store.
I believe the Samsung one is near to that (not in store, but they deliver the replacement to you) so wonder how T-Mobile vary. If it's the kind of thing where they are going to make me wait weeks to have it fixed, I'll cancel it.
Thanks.
I've been. T Mobile customer since day 1. I've had the regular & jump insurance since I had my G1. I've only had to replace my phone 2 times since then. Once from theft and once from cracked screen both times i had to pay the premium which was around $100-$200 depending on the price of the phone. Once the replacement comes you send them the broken one. This time around I am trying out Samsung's Insurance.
My insurance is included with my jump 1 program. T-Mobile uses a third party insurance company called Assurant. The deductible for for my S7 flat was $175. As the previous poster said, you fork out the dough, they send you a new or refurbished device along with a return shipping label. The newer the phone, the more likely you are to receive a brand new and not a refurbished device. The more expensive these devices get, the higher your deductible is going to be. I've never used another insurance before.

T mobile is doing it a bit different now for some reason if your device has defects they send the replacement to a tmobile store where they will inspect your phone before they give you the replacement its happen twice like this that ive seen . My sister just did it they just charged her the 5 dollar shipping fee since it was hardware issue but the guy said that their insurnace claims will be handled like that from now on , waste of personal time IMO but i guess saves them money from people trying to pull a fast one

This has been my experience as well regarding the process. I have been in a TMobile store when a huge argument have broken out regarding the need to replace a phone. So if I have any doubts I just say I lost it because I don't want any rep trying to be God.
This is great - thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be in the situation where I called them to say I had a smashed screen, they sent me a returns label and then I had to send the phone off and wait three weeks for it to be fixed or anything like that.
Do they tend to issue replacements fairly quickly? I'm on the policy with Jump. Not that I have any intention of using it but I'm paranoid about this screen!!!

That's the warranty exchange process. I agree. Completely waste of time.
For the insurance claim, once approved, they ship the replacement phone overnight to the house.

you gotta make a claim with the insurance company.
They will charge you whatever the deductible is. You pay that and they send you a phone next day air.
Get that new phone and put the old one back in the box and return it. All prepaid labels.
You can do this 2 times a year.

I got another question. So I received my replacement device and it came in with all the accessories, including the afg headphones. When I send my old phone to them, do I need to send all the accessories with it? I'm wanting to keep the headphones at least
