Wanted to see if the horrible battery issue is due to a bad batch of batteries. Please post your battery manufacture date, which rom you use and if you are having issues or not. There is a date on the battery.

Hey guys I just upgraded to the extended battery and was wondering the best way to properly break in and how long to charge for the first time, any help would be appreciated thanks

The best way I've seen, in my experience, to "train" a battery is to use it until it dies and then leave it charging overnight.
Yeah I would just let the battery do a couple charge and discharges

No need to do that with lithium batteries, they have no memory. This practice is from the old days of nickel cadmium batteries.

That may be true of the battery but is not for the phone.
Li battery's don't have a liner discharge and each battery has a different personalty lot to lot.
The phone learns the curve of the battery through discharge, so letting it discharge completely once or twice helps the phone more accurately display how much battery is left.
Oh okay guys, thanks fyi this battery is a huge improvement, I def recommend it, I actually used my phone quite a bit and from all day use only used 27 percent of battery and had data on, normally with barely any use id lose around 60 percent if not more with data off.. def like my thunderbolt again
edit: I'm on 3g only so I don't know how battery life would improve on 4g..

just to warn you.. i dont know what rom you are using, but keep an eye on the battery gauge while you are actually using the phone and make sure it's not 'sticking'.. i was running froyo bamfs on my extended and my percentage wouldn't properly update and i would have to restart it to update it or it would jsut randomly show up after a while... anywho i ended up going to GB and back to the stock battery, i hate how f***ing big that stupid thing is... its like holding a house phone.
You should probably clear battery stats and run a battery calibration app so it doesn't stick
Drive it like ya stole it!

Yeah I always calibrate with every new rom install, but went ahead and did it on the new battery once I was at 100, the battery isn't so bad once you get used to it, the case can have a big difference on the feel of extended battery.
Mostly I love the fact I can use the phone to the fullest and not have to sacrifice anything and still have 70 percent at the end of the night

Alright...this is not to complain about battery life, or how long your battery lasts..i promise..let me tell you my story
My phone got stolen, the warranty people sent me a new one...everything was good ...loaded my usual custom rom..and put my chichitec battery in...
But im getting really bad battery life..so I reversed to stock rom..and getting the same thing..Im getting like max 11 hours on it..but it seems weird that the discharge is (to me) feeling a little accelerated. Im am using this new phone just like i was usuing the other one (the stolen one) yes i understand there are diferent variables however I have kept them the same for the most
Has anyone heard or had the experience of a bad phone that is eating too much juice??? remember..this thread is NOT about the battery itself but the PHONE
thanks!
If the battery is new just give it a few full cycles

it aint..thats the worse part ..my chichitec I used to use it on my old phone...could having a new phone act the same way, meaning because its a new phone it needs a couple cycles?
Ok i recommend flash your custom rom and drain battery to below 20% rhen charge for 8 hrs the use the app called battery calibrater from app market then while its on 100% after 8 hrs keep charger plugged in and calibrate the battery following instructions in the app and use normal one or two time and let us no

roger that! will do! thanks for the advice
Do I still need to calibrate the battery when using batteries that've been charged using my wall charger?
I'm switching between 2 1500mah batteries and 1 3500mah battery (which is probably really about 2200mah) on an every other day basis. Calibrating my battery would be such a pain in the a$$.
I'm running CM9 build 17 with Glitch B6 (although I'd figure that that doesn't really matter).

I think it is pretty much saying that battery calibrations are useless.
But it also couldn't hurt right?

No you don't need to calibrate between batteries
I didnt when I changed a couple days ago from my almost 2yr old original battery with my new Anker 1800mAh. The life my phone got over the weekend was incredible!
You do still need to occasionally run the battery low (<5%), especially if you've had a series of unintended reboots or see the battery % drop suddenly. Not drain but skip numbers like:70% crash 55%.

Thanks for the reply guys. So I guess that the answer comes down to: no.
Yay xD
On every rom i port, why does our g3 do not show correct battery % values.
What is the use of one % battery mode if it does not show correct values.
Is there any solution? Or any developer who can make our g3 to show each % of battery accurately.

buddy, i just wanna inform you...you missed section.....and....battery indicator depens on a kernel you use aswell....as cm7 kernels...(some of them)...have that bug...but not g3mod....so...
Thanq for ur reply Rkoby...I know that battery % depends on kernel.
Not only in cm7 kernels but also in froyo kernels and roms after charging to 100%, in just 5 min battery level gets down to 32% or 28% even if we dont use the phone and after that it takes a day to get down to 12% then another day gets down to 5% and then i have to charge my phone.
Even on g3mod kernel.

What i need is battery % should be accurate to its each value.
Can any one suggest me any froyo kernel which shows battery % correctly.

Few more questions to ask.
1. I have got my new battery in a plastic cover.....so I wanted to know wether it is better to use the battery along with the cover.
2. Does overclocking spoils the battery.
3. Few more tips so that batter would last longer [for many years].
Sent from my first smart phone
I think it is better to remove plastic cover as it would just act as an insulator and heat the battery.
Regarding better battery life you can try using profiles in set CPU to increase your battery life as well reduce overall lag.
You can overclock whenever your apps demand more processing like heavy games etc.
Sent from my GT-I5800
Basics 101 no one makes a product to last "many years". If ppl dont come back for more most companies will have to shut down shop. Max you can expect is 1-3 years.
Some things you can do ensure longer battery life are:
1) Make sure you calibrate your battery once in month or 3 months.
2) Avoid completely draining you battery often.
3) ensure first charge of about 6-8 hrs with the phone switched off
Apart from this you can also set up some Profiles in set cpu to underclock your processor @night or when screen is off to reduce power consumption.
Sorry dude I misinterpreted your question
In order to get the battery running for many years never let the phone be plugged in to charger once it is fully charged (like leaving it to power source all night). This is common cause of batteries dying earlier
Sent from my GT-I5800
Yes......it is good to unplug the charger as soon as it gets charged.

hey so finally im getting good battery life on my photon q! with an app called DS battery saver pro, its a couple dollars its worth it believe me. I took it off the charger at 9:30 am today and as of today at 7:22pm it was at 82% and I had used the phone for 10 hours and 50 seconds. im pretty surprised. I also drained my battery completely , because the thing with lithium ion battery's is that if you drain it and then charge it while its off completely it seems to restore the batter helping it last longer! if you want the link just let me know!
Just thought id do an up date I turned of ds leaving wifi on and this is where its at. I've found turning one data service while leaving the other on saves battery It is now at 53 percent with 12 hours of battery life.
