SORRY! >.< [for those who tried Tinny fix zip] - HTC Inspire 4G

Dear community,
I sincerely apologize. I seriously did not think that would've happened. Honestly it was my first time and I thought it would work, as I had performed the update on my friend's Inspire 4G and it worked [Honeysense HD]. I didn't doublecheck the script in there, and that was my error. I really am sorry.
I am currently trying to redo it and this time, I will gather a bunch of my friends in order to test it out on several devices and several different roms. If it works again, I'll post it with caution in case anyone else seems to be having problems (when I first flashed CM7's fix, it sent the phone into a bootloop and stopped the phone from working).
Once again, I apologize for such a noob mistake. I honestly thought it would work and I will never, ever let that happen again. I'm only trying to learn more about the android system, and I wanted to help out, even though I didn't have a Inspire.
If anyone's phone was damaged, please PM me. >.<

I didn't flash your fix, but thanks for the apology.
Just so you know, you don't need to go to the trouble of testing it and posting it again. This fix isn't needed. All of the ROMs in the Inspire section either come with the fix already in place, or they've got a fix that is flashed separately, that has already been tested by the dev of that ROM. For a "universal" tinny fix, there is already a thread for this. So any additional tinny fixes are simply not needed.

Tough lesson, but great way to deal with it! Mistakes are only n00b the second time you make them!

[Q] disappointment after disappointment

First off I would like to say hi and thanks to everyone on here, this forum rocks! But I honestly feel my Mesmerize has been a bigger disappointment to me than my Behold I had with T-Mobile! I switched to US Cellular and this phone cause they have better coverage where I live, and I wanted a phone I could customize so i wouldn't have the same thing as everyone else lol. I did the 2.2 update as soon as it released, toyed around with some of the other firmwares on here and what not before it was available, but started having the problem where my phone wouldn't notify me of incoming calls. So i used the files on here to go back to 2.1 using Odin and rooted for future possibilities, I receive every call now. But onto my questions lol, I was wondering if anyone on here has found a way to fix the incoming call problem on 2.2 that i had? How can I get voodoo onto my phone the way it is right now? I have tried every way described on here and through searching, keep finding dead links, phone will not update zip from sdcard on reboot, have tried numerous files that way! If you guys could post some links that would help me out with my problems, to files, and what not, that would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long winded post, just tired of searching everywhere and not getting anywhere, thanks!
Honestly, there *is* a thread that covers what you're after; it's bde's How to Customize your Mesmerize thread found Here. I should probably get on him to update the "First get Stock Froyo on your phone" link, because it does have an old link last time I checked. That's about the only one that I know of, every other link works.
Above all, make sure to always wipe your cache (any "Wipe ..." option you can find, one is under Advanced, except for Battery Cache) once you get Clockwork Mod (CWM) Red Recovery installed before you flash a ROM. It really does make things flash better, fewer FCs, and so on. There are times when you can get away without it, but in that event it's best to assume things will be glitchy unless they aren't. From the brief information you gave, I'd suspect that's what happened to your phone.
Best advice anyone here will give you: Read read read. Following that, read some more. Some people can only learn by doing, sure, but become as intimately familiar with the processes and terms as you can.
I suspect I'll do this a lot, but check out the Glossary in my signature, and read through the whole post. It should give you all the little "this goes here, but doesn't work there" kinds of pointers you need, all in one place.
Good luck! Hopefully from here on out, you can really enjoy your Mesmerize, and welcome to the forums!
Hi, thanks for the reply. I do need to read through the glossary post you put up a little more thoroughly, just kinda glanced so far LOL. I also have checked out that link as well, but honestly I won't go back to froyo, not worth the missing calls to me when my phone is how I make a living at the moment. Just mostly interested in finding a lagfix and the voodoo sound for 2.1.

Missing calls has never been a problem with froyo as far as I'm concerned. Uscc did realease their official version not long ago, getting 2.2 by that means should be flawless.

The US Cellular froyo upgrade is what i used and had all the problems with not being notified of my incoming calls, its a very well known problem from what I have found out by searching on google, took my 4-5 times of calling me before my phone rang, and he is with US Cellular as well
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
As a quick note, the missed calls thing is actually a Samsung issue that is known and is/was an issue on both 2.1 and 2.2 that is being worked on and a new firmware release is coming soon from what I have seen. I'm hoping to have more on that soon.

[ROM][V6/19/11] Miui 1.6.10 Mtd (Mesmerize only)

Ok I did this the other day and haven't messed with it much. Not sure I would recommend it for daily use. As landscape, gps and some other minor issues are present. This also isn't for the showcase. This started out as a mix of the Fascinate port/Cm7 Mtd for the mesmerize. Then a mix of miui android. So credit goes to them guys though it has some stuff done by myself.
First I am not responsible if your phone bursts into flames and melts down. Or anything of the such. You took the risk flashing it.
Now on to getting started first you need to download the fascinate radio below:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16907924/ec01_radio.tar
Plug it into odin in the pda spot. Yank the battery, plug in your usb cord, followed by holding volume down. Then flash it ( Pretty sure you know the deal) Once done download Miui 1.6.10 Cmtd below:
http://2fastroms.com/dm_eds/download.php?id=22
Transfer it to your sd card. Boot into cwm recovery using the 3 finger method. Perform a wipe and format system. Though probably not needed. Then install the above rom. Once installed reboot. First boot will take awhile. But it should boot.
To get off of the rom you need to odin ec-10 on repartition. You can supply feedback as it would better help me with issues you find. But do not complain something doesn't work. Also if someone would grab screenshots and upload them I will add them to the post.
Gonna give this a shot....not being pushy, just asking, is there a mes version of the latest release in the works?... I dont know what happened, but I was running this fine (the Fascinate version) with the EC01 radio, then something happened, I did a Factory reset, and since then, any 2.3.4 MTD rom I flash is missing 3g Data. It keeps connecting and disconnecting, and will never actually transfer information almost like it will only connect to Verizons towers and will not register my 3g data...really bummed
**Edit Also, does the latest CM7 MIUI MTD kernel work with this??... curious
** Edit 2 Apparently this breaks my 3g Data as well.... WTF

If you have not yet try to reflash the eco1 radio and see if that fixes the issue. if not relash to ec10 stock and see if issue exists. if it fixes it then try and come back to the eco1 miui
col try dl09 radio im using it right now on my mez and its working fine..
I have tried everything to fix this data issue.. I have COMPLETELY wiped the phone and started from scratch (even re-activated it) re-partitioned and flashed EC10 flashed EC01 radio, factory reset, deifferent roms...it ONLY breaks with 2.3.4 MTD roms...I think I may try having US Cellular reset my phone....I dont know..frustration level is on the rise though lol... it all started when I went to do a factory reset on my phone, after it re-booted it forced me to do an activation (just like *228, but I didnt initialize it) and then 3g data was COMPLETELY broken..I fixed that, but since have not been able to make an mtd rom work
Any mtd aosp kernel should work. I have a few things on my plate at the moment so I haven't finished this or working on a update today.
As for the data. Gas says he has the issue also but I don't. Data works fine for me and was reported working for a few. So the only thing I can guess is perhaps something in your guys area is different in the network compared to say mine. Which possibly isn't handled right or just something missing. It could also be that a piece of code is incorrect or missing.
I really have no idea though as I am not in the loop for details on what is being done. How ever cm fixed the source for the apn issue and once I can track it down to what is causing it to happen we should have mms in miui and cm. Unless fixed already as I haven't been paying attention.

How are you doing a "factory reset", through CWM - right?
If you really want to help us figure this out you need to try and debug and pull log's so that we can try and locate the problem - MTD is obvoiusly VERY new so there is no "known" fixes or issues, so it's not going to be easy figuring out the problem.
When you're using odin to go to a FULL STOCK BUILD (meaning one without the added recoveries and root) are you checking the "repartition" box?
OK, three things,
1. This isn't an actual port.
2. Any and all Fascinate rom should work with this method.
3a. For TW roms, build.prop needs editing;
3b. For AOSP roms, /system/ect/ppp needs to be copied from a TW rom;
3c. For both, apns-conf.xml and coma-carriers-conf.xml need to be copied from a Mez rom.
So, yeah, not for the faint of heart, but that's what we get for being regional.

Uh, not sure where this came from (meaning why you're posting it at this point) but a small correction to your list above would be - build.prop needs to be edited for ALL rom's tw/or AOSP based.
wait odin full ec10 then when it boots up *228 then after tht flash to mtd
KillKount said:

First you are going to piss me off. As I believe you need to stick to trying to port w/e you were asking about not to long ago.
2. Any and all Fascinate rom should work with this method.
To the above and I have no clue wtf you are talking about.

Again you need to stick to w/e you do as you are doing a good job posting something you have no clue about. As any miui is port besides what is released for I think 4 devices maybe 5 is a port. You left out the roaming indicator. The apns isn't going to do **** when the mnc & mcc numbers are not picked up right hence the 00 when opening the apns via voice dialer. Third cm source was broke till yesterday and has been for a month where apn's wouldn't do you crap any way. Though miui doesn't have the issue as it is being built on a older nightly source code.
So, yeah, not for the faint of heart, but that's what we get for being regional.

Also since it is clear you don't have a clue about a port. As if you did you would notice more than that is changed. As since miui is built off cm. Cm things will work hence how I port it on the desire and others do on other devices. In turn the rom actually has a good bit from the cm7 rom for the mes in it. The build prop is also not the same and is actually fixed to set up stuff right on default. Along with I think I changed the vmheapsize to be what it should. I fixed the roaming indicator also. It will boot on the mes just sms will not work which I haven't fixed or messed with this since I let gas try it a few days ago.
Also I never claimed it to be a port to the mes. It is to a port and isn't. It is how ever a port of a port of a port from the device the rom is released for.
Now have a nice day

OK, here is exactly what I did....and I know I F'd up...I was on the first test of MIUI and everything was working perfec (what was supposed to be working) it was great, but I was taking a trip...so I flashed the stock EC10 (re-partitioned checked) flashed EC01, OTB kernel, miuiwiz 1.1.1 rom and all the fixins, later that day..or the next?..I was getting some FC errors...so I decided I was going to reset..so I did it from the ROM..(stupid stupid stupid)..not from CWM. When the phone re-booted it went directly to an activation screen and forced me to activate...stupid me I did it with all Verizon rom and radio..when it activated I had COMPLETELY lost 3G, to the point where there was no 3G indicator by the signal...after about a twenty minute curse filled rant, I decided to tryh something, I flashed EC10 again, but this time I also checked the Phone EFS clear box. What this did was remove my Phone number and MIN from the phone (and who knows what else it may have done, I havent been able to find definitive answers on that, well..now with all stock USC I did a *228 and the phone went through its initial provisioning, activated, and bingo...everything was back to normal, 3g was alive and kicking, ...then I went to flash the newest MIUI and started getting the latest 3G problems. I have a 3G indicator, but it never seems to be active (upload/download indicators not flashing), then the 3G indicator will dissappear then reappear, and do this randomly. when I try to use data, it just says that I have no network. However, if I do this same process, mbut instead I flash say MIUIWiz rom, everything still works, 3g and all.
I know that was a leangthy description, and I am sorry, but that is all I can give you right now...the wife is all over me to get back outside and mow the lawn and finish cleaning the pool LOL

I'm sorry, I haven't actually dl'd this, I was just trying to give some basics as to how to get most, if not all, Fas roms working for us. And for the build.prop, most current aosp roms don't have but four lines concerning Verizon or Fascinate.
Again, I am sorry, I will shut up now.

To half of what you did I have no idea what would happen or what it did lol. As for data gas said his doesn't work on any mtd release. Since this uses cm7mtd it also gives the same issue. On my phone if I sit next to the wall facing the hill. I get barely any service and it will do as you are saying. If I move away from the wall it is fine maybe a spaz out here and there.

No you came in here saying this wasn't a port. Where you had no idea what you were talking about clearly. I also never said anything about the build prop in aosp roms. Well nothing like that. I also have yet to see one thing you mentioned yet how do you get sms to work in a fas rom ported to the mes? Besides the radio? You have only said these few things which is half of it. Also nearly word for word from the guide I think gas posted or someone in the fascinate radio thread.
Honestly I have no idea why I am even talking about it besides the fact you made a post claiming out of no where. I didn't post this to have a noob claiming something that I really have no idea why. Though do a little searching the next time on miui and tell me what samsung device it is released for.

You have a lot of room to talk. Last I heard you weren't using anything I do any way so why troll posting and add to the fire? As I didn't see anyone yanking your chain. I didn't start the adam crap to begin with yet you like putting it off as that I did. I also didn't post claiming miui isn't a port for what ever reason that has me baffled.
If you don't have some constructive to say. Then don't post. Along with the fact how would you like it if you actually did something for someone in two threads start claiming **** that isn't true. LOL point proven. You really need to learn to ignore some things. It's a message board, people are going to say things that may not be accurate. And really at no point did you mention this was a port or give credit to Andmer or any of the Fascinate people that did the MIUI port for the Fascinate. If you didn't get this from them then I really don't know why you spent the time to port this yourself as you are already using their radio. It would have been much easier just to change Andmer's MIUI to work for the Mes. Again man I am not trying to argue with you, I just think it's funny you get so worked up about this stuff. Deep breaths.

[Q] Touch screen acting up

Hello, I'm back again, in the Q&A section.
So I found a few threads regarding the touch screen on other phones, but I want to ask here so I can be sure...
So a little while after permanently rooting my phone, the touch screen started acting weird... To be specific, I downloaded Dotty, to see where it shows you where the point on the touch screen registers, and near the top, at a little horizontal sliver of the screen, any time I touch there it splits up the point into two different points, right outside of that sliver.
It's made that very difficult to select certain things on the screen, but sometimes the problem goes away after locking and unlocking the phone.
I just want to confirm with someone that this doesn't have to do with a bad ROM or a mistake on my part, as I've flashed multiple ROMS, and gotten the same results. I also tried wiping the phone, but no luck.
The ROM I'm currently using is MikShift - v1.01
If this is a hardware issue, then I guess I'll just have to remove any evidence of rooting the device, and take it to a store, but I was hoping if anyone else has any insight on this.
Thank you.
P.S. I've only had this phone for around 3 or 4 days.

I think this is probably a problem with the hardware. I remember several months ago other people reporting the same problem, maybe just a batch of bad devices. Touchscreen should be %100 functional regardless of the ROM your using.
Okay, that's kind of a downer, thanks anyways though.
#1 thing I have noticed with touchscreen problems: CLEAN THE SCREEN WITH A PAPER TOWEL AND ALCOHOL!!!
2) Uninstall dotty.
3) If that doesn't work, try running fix permissions from clockwork.
4) If that doesn't work there is a touchscreen calibration app in the market I forget what it's called.
5) If that doesn't work wipe the phone completely, and try flashing the latest Cyanogenmod nightly and the latest google apps and see if you have the same problem.

Thank you for the options, I was only assuming it was a hardware problem because everywhere else I looked online, with other phones, that's what people said. I'll try all of these things, and post on the results.
EDIT: Okay, I uninstalled Dotty ( I'm not sure what the point of that was, however), I tried the fix permissions, and I couldn't find the calibration app. If anyone knows where it is, that sounds useful, but I searched and searched. Next, I guess I'll just have to find something optimal for cleaning screens, since I don't think we have alcohol anywhere. I'll try flashing Cyanogen too, since that's easy. Also, there have been times when the touch screen stops working completely.
No luck
Okay, I've tried all of the above, without luck. I'm all ears if anyone has any final advice, but it's really not that much of a hassle to restore everything to the factory default, and take it down to a Sprint Store.
I'm not quite sure how to set everything back to how it was when I got the phone, yet, but I imagine there are guides for that already.

Just run RUU
I've already got it back to default, but that probably would've been a faster idea. XD Thanks anyways, though.

No problem buddy! Good luck and let us know how it goes!
Superuser is still around
So like always, I apparently missed the fact that superuser is still on the phone, and quite difficult to remove...
So would flashing the radio fix that? I've dug around a little, but I'm not quite sure which file I should be flashing, or where I can get it.

If your planning on taking it back to Sprint you'll need to turn s-on, not just remove super user. Run the ruu, you can find mirror at the bottom of the first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255474

I have had this problem with two Shifts, and both were replaced by Sprint as faulty hardware. It is quite annoying. I would RUU and take it back.
Yep, I do intend on taking it back.
And thank you crump, I'd be lost without all the awesome people like you on this forum.
I'll do that.
EDIT:
So I checked the page, and all I see is stuff about 2.2... The phone came with 2.3 so this might be a dumb statement but I'm assuming that I'm to run the 2.2 RUU, and upgrade normally back up to 2.3 from there. If I'm wrong, please let me know, otherwise, I'll have at it.
You could also just use the 2.3 RUU for GB. It's posted on THIS thread.

OR you could just run the 2.2 ruu and not update and let them know you were rooted as a sign of your anger and protest
but thatll probably just piss them off and not replace it....I would personally do it tho
That suggestion made me smile, but I don't want to take any chances...
And thank you for the 2.3 RUU link! I will download at once!
Welp, my phone just started this too. This marks number 4 for me. I'm getting tired of replacing these things. It's been an average of 1 every two months!

Seriously? I've had the same shift since day 1! That scares the crap out of me if mine ever actually does break. Are they making/refurbing them with cheap lower quality parts or what?
You could revert back to 2.2 and accept the ota... That should load the new hboot. If that doesnt work then i dont know. Most roms Ive had turns off the ota. For good reason i might add. But you can get a hold of one that you can turn it on with. Or get stock 2.2 and update.

Gotta say thanks!

I have to post a serious "thank you!" to all the people who take the time to come here and help people like me.
Friday I rooted my HTC ONE S. Saturday I installed a new ROM (Miui) and had issues with the WiFi. Long story short, I installed 2 other ROMs and had the same issue. During the day, I somehow (stupid, I know) managed to completely erase everything on my phone - ROM and all. I tried for hours to read everything here that I could and fix it. At one point, I was certain I'd have to just go get a new phone because I had obviously completely screwed mine. But it's hard for me to just give up on a challenge.
During this process, I never had to register here and never had to post a question - search feature is great. Then last night, I finally got it working again. Not only that, but my phone works better now than before I rooted it. It's smoother, faster, more useful. Plus, ever since I got the phone, it's always had a hard time connecting to my home wifi. Now it doesn't.
The point to all of this is that if it weren't for all of you knowledgeable folks coming here and answering questions of people like me, then people like me would be in a lot of trouble and would have to settle for an otherwise bland Android experience.
So -- thanks to all of you!

I agree with you completely but not that they want their names mentioned, it would not hurt to mention them or the ones you remember or hit their thanks button cuz I too have had the greatest help by many members but 2 in my case of rooting for almost a week and a half.
Since you're new, here's a friendly tip. You don't need to make a thread with thanks. You can just the thanks button and help others wherever possible.
No "Thank you"-Threads. Use Thanks-Button individually then the ppl that helped you know that they did

Trying to install Rom

I have the T959v android phone, which I found out is a bit more complicated than my Samsung Vibrant.
I am running the gingerbread kernel after using Kies.
I have finally successfully flashed the T959v using Heimdoll following this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
Super User has been installed using SuperOneClick.
After struggling with it and reading on some sites it's possible and some sites it's not possible, I've come to the conclusion that Rom Manager is not a good idea to use, to install a Rom on my particular phone.
I want to install this Rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402966
However I reviewed the instructions and found I was lost on some parts.
I know how to get to recovery mode (with the phone turned off, hold down volume up and down and the power button)
However, here's where I get lost:
6. Perform Voodoo -> Disable Lagfix.
I do not have this option, likely because I'm missing voodoo or some sort of app. I've tried googling this and figuring out what it is, but I don't even know what a CWM is.
I haven't tried (since I'm atleast smart enough to review information before I start following them, lest I get myself stuck somewhere and unable to back out of). However I believe I can get as far as Step 5.
Unfortuantely I can't get any further.
The only apps I have installed (besides the annoying bloatware on the phone) are the ones I listed above.
This is my first time flashing a phone or doing any of the above, previously my friend did it for me.
So I apologize for whatever Incompetence I may have, however if you can simplify instructions I'm pretty good at following them.
The hard part is that I don't know how to do a lot of the instructions.
Is there a video? Perhaps a guide with pictures that includes all the software I need and how to install that software?
I'm sorry for the questions, I hope someone can help. This has been a long and frustrating process but I'm determined to finish it.
Thank you in advance.
Ah also this: "Must have pre-installed kernel with clockwork recovery!"
I cannot do this because when I try and use clockwork recovery it says it cannot support my phone.
It gives me a list of 4 devices, none of which are my phone.
Then I click on "My device is not listed" and it states the T959v is not supported.
I'm really sorry for all the questions.
Not only does this app look nice, and sound nice due to hardware acceleration. Above all it gets rid of that bloatware crap from T-mobile.
I look forward to giving this app a try.
Hello my friend i know how excited you are when it come's to flashing, installing, removing apps on your phone, but before you do any harm to your phone maybe
consider reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G before going further. it save's you a lot of time and headache plus you can avoid
flaming from other people here. and also try to use the search bar just i case you have further question's..
I advice you to take some time to read first on what do you want to your phone before doing anything.. don't be in a hurry we have tons of great roms in here..
Do not use clockwork manager...it is not for this device!
If you have super user ur rooted and good to go ...i would suggest you play around with the gingerbread roms for a spell before going to icecream sandwich roms, just so you get a feel for flashing on this device.....i too came from the vibrant and dearly miss it.
This phone is far from a vibrant but is coming along.
Feel free to pm me.....I may be a bit slow on replies since I'm working 7/12's 3rd shift.
Thank you both so much for your replies.
Warren I am checking that link out right now. Thanks
Shortbus, I miss my Vibrant too.
Technically speaking my Vibrant is still usable, but ever since I dropped it and cracked the screen it seems to have drastically slowed down (and the screen is annoying with all the cracks too).
Sad day for me.
I still want to try and get that Rom I had posted above working, as I doubt I'll move to another rom anytime after that. But I'll try and learn more about it using the link you gave me Warren. It'll probably take me several days ~_~
Shortbus I may email you with questions I come across from time to time if that's ok

If you want to install Valhalla Final - read the guide in the first link of my signature and begin where applicable.
I don't mind.
Flashing roms on this device is easy once you realize its not the vibrant lol.
Like the vibrant....this thing is near impossible to brick,....just a lil bit more complicated than the vib.....till you get to understand it.

Ah, so I should switch to Froyo instead of Gingerbread from the looks of it.
I'll get right on that I'm going to try following your guide now
edit: I saw that you switched to Gingerbread, jumped too far ahead of myself.
I'm getting pretty far along in the guide, I'm now at the part where I am about to install the rom.
I love that you guys respond so quickly too.
In the process of using Heimdall I ran into so many issues but was (slowly) able to work through them and figure them out.
It's nice to know I can come here if I have a quick question.
I'm not much help with heimdall....I use gremlin remover, its a one click Odin program....serves the same purpose....to bring you to a rooted stock state.
