Ok I did this the other day and haven't messed with it much. Not sure I would recommend it for daily use. As landscape, gps and some other minor issues are present. This also isn't for the showcase. This started out as a mix of the Fascinate port/Cm7 Mtd for the mesmerize. Then a mix of miui android. So credit goes to them guys though it has some stuff done by myself.
First I am not responsible if your phone bursts into flames and melts down. Or anything of the such. You took the risk flashing it.
Now on to getting started first you need to download the fascinate radio below:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16907924/ec01_radio.tar
Plug it into odin in the pda spot. Yank the battery, plug in your usb cord, followed by holding volume down. Then flash it ( Pretty sure you know the deal) Once done download Miui 1.6.10 Cmtd below:
http://2fastroms.com/dm_eds/download.php?id=22
Transfer it to your sd card. Boot into cwm recovery using the 3 finger method. Perform a wipe and format system. Though probably not needed. Then install the above rom. Once installed reboot. First boot will take awhile. But it should boot.
To get off of the rom you need to odin ec-10 on repartition. You can supply feedback as it would better help me with issues you find. But do not complain something doesn't work. Also if someone would grab screenshots and upload them I will add them to the post.
Gonna give this a shot....not being pushy, just asking, is there a mes version of the latest release in the works?... I dont know what happened, but I was running this fine (the Fascinate version) with the EC01 radio, then something happened, I did a Factory reset, and since then, any 2.3.4 MTD rom I flash is missing 3g Data. It keeps connecting and disconnecting, and will never actually transfer information almost like it will only connect to Verizons towers and will not register my 3g data...really bummed
**Edit Also, does the latest CM7 MIUI MTD kernel work with this??... curious
** Edit 2 Apparently this breaks my 3g Data as well.... WTF

If you have not yet try to reflash the eco1 radio and see if that fixes the issue. if not relash to ec10 stock and see if issue exists. if it fixes it then try and come back to the eco1 miui
col try dl09 radio im using it right now on my mez and its working fine..
I have tried everything to fix this data issue.. I have COMPLETELY wiped the phone and started from scratch (even re-activated it) re-partitioned and flashed EC10 flashed EC01 radio, factory reset, deifferent roms...it ONLY breaks with 2.3.4 MTD roms...I think I may try having US Cellular reset my phone....I dont know..frustration level is on the rise though lol... it all started when I went to do a factory reset on my phone, after it re-booted it forced me to do an activation (just like *228, but I didnt initialize it) and then 3g data was COMPLETELY broken..I fixed that, but since have not been able to make an mtd rom work
Any mtd aosp kernel should work. I have a few things on my plate at the moment so I haven't finished this or working on a update today.
As for the data. Gas says he has the issue also but I don't. Data works fine for me and was reported working for a few. So the only thing I can guess is perhaps something in your guys area is different in the network compared to say mine. Which possibly isn't handled right or just something missing. It could also be that a piece of code is incorrect or missing.
I really have no idea though as I am not in the loop for details on what is being done. How ever cm fixed the source for the apn issue and once I can track it down to what is causing it to happen we should have mms in miui and cm. Unless fixed already as I haven't been paying attention.

How are you doing a "factory reset", through CWM - right?
If you really want to help us figure this out you need to try and debug and pull log's so that we can try and locate the problem - MTD is obvoiusly VERY new so there is no "known" fixes or issues, so it's not going to be easy figuring out the problem.
When you're using odin to go to a FULL STOCK BUILD (meaning one without the added recoveries and root) are you checking the "repartition" box?
OK, three things,
1. This isn't an actual port.
2. Any and all Fascinate rom should work with this method.
3a. For TW roms, build.prop needs editing;
3b. For AOSP roms, /system/ect/ppp needs to be copied from a TW rom;
3c. For both, apns-conf.xml and coma-carriers-conf.xml need to be copied from a Mez rom.
So, yeah, not for the faint of heart, but that's what we get for being regional.

Uh, not sure where this came from (meaning why you're posting it at this point) but a small correction to your list above would be - build.prop needs to be edited for ALL rom's tw/or AOSP based.
wait odin full ec10 then when it boots up *228 then after tht flash to mtd
KillKount said:

First you are going to piss me off. As I believe you need to stick to trying to port w/e you were asking about not to long ago.
2. Any and all Fascinate rom should work with this method.
To the above and I have no clue wtf you are talking about.

Again you need to stick to w/e you do as you are doing a good job posting something you have no clue about. As any miui is port besides what is released for I think 4 devices maybe 5 is a port. You left out the roaming indicator. The apns isn't going to do **** when the mnc & mcc numbers are not picked up right hence the 00 when opening the apns via voice dialer. Third cm source was broke till yesterday and has been for a month where apn's wouldn't do you crap any way. Though miui doesn't have the issue as it is being built on a older nightly source code.
So, yeah, not for the faint of heart, but that's what we get for being regional.

Also since it is clear you don't have a clue about a port. As if you did you would notice more than that is changed. As since miui is built off cm. Cm things will work hence how I port it on the desire and others do on other devices. In turn the rom actually has a good bit from the cm7 rom for the mes in it. The build prop is also not the same and is actually fixed to set up stuff right on default. Along with I think I changed the vmheapsize to be what it should. I fixed the roaming indicator also. It will boot on the mes just sms will not work which I haven't fixed or messed with this since I let gas try it a few days ago.
Also I never claimed it to be a port to the mes. It is to a port and isn't. It is how ever a port of a port of a port from the device the rom is released for.
Now have a nice day

OK, here is exactly what I did....and I know I F'd up...I was on the first test of MIUI and everything was working perfec (what was supposed to be working) it was great, but I was taking a trip...so I flashed the stock EC10 (re-partitioned checked) flashed EC01, OTB kernel, miuiwiz 1.1.1 rom and all the fixins, later that day..or the next?..I was getting some FC errors...so I decided I was going to reset..so I did it from the ROM..(stupid stupid stupid)..not from CWM. When the phone re-booted it went directly to an activation screen and forced me to activate...stupid me I did it with all Verizon rom and radio..when it activated I had COMPLETELY lost 3G, to the point where there was no 3G indicator by the signal...after about a twenty minute curse filled rant, I decided to tryh something, I flashed EC10 again, but this time I also checked the Phone EFS clear box. What this did was remove my Phone number and MIN from the phone (and who knows what else it may have done, I havent been able to find definitive answers on that, well..now with all stock USC I did a *228 and the phone went through its initial provisioning, activated, and bingo...everything was back to normal, 3g was alive and kicking, ...then I went to flash the newest MIUI and started getting the latest 3G problems. I have a 3G indicator, but it never seems to be active (upload/download indicators not flashing), then the 3G indicator will dissappear then reappear, and do this randomly. when I try to use data, it just says that I have no network. However, if I do this same process, mbut instead I flash say MIUIWiz rom, everything still works, 3g and all.
I know that was a leangthy description, and I am sorry, but that is all I can give you right now...the wife is all over me to get back outside and mow the lawn and finish cleaning the pool LOL

I'm sorry, I haven't actually dl'd this, I was just trying to give some basics as to how to get most, if not all, Fas roms working for us. And for the build.prop, most current aosp roms don't have but four lines concerning Verizon or Fascinate.
Again, I am sorry, I will shut up now.

To half of what you did I have no idea what would happen or what it did lol. As for data gas said his doesn't work on any mtd release. Since this uses cm7mtd it also gives the same issue. On my phone if I sit next to the wall facing the hill. I get barely any service and it will do as you are saying. If I move away from the wall it is fine maybe a spaz out here and there.

No you came in here saying this wasn't a port. Where you had no idea what you were talking about clearly. I also never said anything about the build prop in aosp roms. Well nothing like that. I also have yet to see one thing you mentioned yet how do you get sms to work in a fas rom ported to the mes? Besides the radio? You have only said these few things which is half of it. Also nearly word for word from the guide I think gas posted or someone in the fascinate radio thread.
Honestly I have no idea why I am even talking about it besides the fact you made a post claiming out of no where. I didn't post this to have a noob claiming something that I really have no idea why. Though do a little searching the next time on miui and tell me what samsung device it is released for.

You have a lot of room to talk. Last I heard you weren't using anything I do any way so why troll posting and add to the fire? As I didn't see anyone yanking your chain. I didn't start the adam crap to begin with yet you like putting it off as that I did. I also didn't post claiming miui isn't a port for what ever reason that has me baffled.
If you don't have some constructive to say. Then don't post. Along with the fact how would you like it if you actually did something for someone in two threads start claiming **** that isn't true. As it's really starting to get old. Then when someone bashes what you do on top of it. As in if it was that simple why didn't he do it?
Also that is all I got to say in which I said what I wanted to. Now the thread can get back on track.

LOL point proven. You really need to learn to ignore some things. It's a message board, people are going to say things that may not be accurate. And really at no point did you mention this was a port or give credit to Andmer or any of the Fascinate people that did the MIUI port for the Fascinate. If you didn't get this from them then I really don't know why you spent the time to port this yourself as you are already using their radio. It would have been much easier just to change Andmer's MIUI to work for the Mes. Again man I am not trying to argue with you, I just think it's funny you get so worked up about this stuff. Deep breaths.

I have searched and only found the posts in separate threads talking about the loss of Sprint TV, and most have not been addressed within the threads. I had Damage 2.1 ROM installed and lost Sprint TV after nearly a week. States I need to be a Sprint Customer to use this app.
I switched to the Fresh 2b ROM last night and had Sprint TV working. This morning I get the same message I am not a Sprint Customer.
I have updated the Build.prop file to show the 310120 and Sprint thinking this might help. Just curious if anyone out there with more knowledge than me has a fix for this. As I stated in a thread post, the TV on the phone is a great kid distraction at times when I need it. That and I like having everything I am paying for working.
Thanks
Interesting, I was thinking about flashing my ROM to one of the custom 2.X roms, however if this is the case I may just wait a while. Although I don't use Sprint TV alot, jniiya is right, it is a good kid distraction to have on your phone... Then again TV turns kids in to zombies.
I can run Sprint TV just find using damgeless, and I'm able to stream with no problem. I did have to restart my phone after I installed it though.

It's not a problem of getting on the phone. I have had it installed from day one with both ROMs. It works for a while, but then it gives me the error of you need to be a Sprint Customer to use this app.
I am thinking since these builds are based off the Eris it is sending some type of info back to the Sprint servers show it as a Verizon phone. I just can't figure out what it is since I have changed the build.prop file, and I am not familiar enough with these systems/codes to dig around and think of another place it would be sending back info as if it were Verizon.
This is not like a deal breaker with me in anyway. Just trying to figure it out for the future.
Thanks for reading the post.

Exact same problem here. It works for a while, then I get that error message. If I uninstall and reinstall Sprint TV (pick your favorite method), it works for a while again, but after minutes, hours, or a day (no noticeable pattern) I get that error message.
I've posted on it in several threads about this topic hoping to find a fix. People have told me to edit my build.prop file. I keep trying, but I'm new to this, and every time I try to add the lines below I have problems. The phone freezes during boot up, and I end up having to do a nandroid restore.
ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=310120
ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Sprint
Several threads on this forum and others say this (or variations on it) will solve the problem, but it locks my phone up. I've tried with the =, without, with spaces before and after, and at various places within the file. I wonder if I'm doing something really stupid because I don't know exactly what the formatting is supposed to be. If anybody knows of a tutorial on build.prop, I'd be thrilled to use that, but I haven't been able to find one.
Been working fine for me. Running Fresh 2.0b2 since Flipz released it.
Not to hijack, but have you tried the TV.com app? Something like that I think I uninstalled it, but I thought it was actually better than Sprint TV...
Yep, I went back to 1.5 Fresh because of Sprint TV. Sprint just got ESPN and the NCAA tourney should be on. I am crossing my fingers that Sprint releases the update in the next week or so.

You do not have to add the lines just change the values. The lines are already in there.

No problem. I am also using damage 1.0, however, I see references to pancake (and cupcake, bikcmp) in my build.prop file. I was surprised by that. Is that normal? I did do a wipe (wipe data/factory reset) before I installed damage. In fact, I wiped before going from pancake to fresh 2.0 and again before going from fresh 2.0 to damage.
If you can post the build.prop, I'll give it a try and report back.

Sorry for the late post. I just pull it from my phone. Attached is the build.prop from Damage 1.0. Again I do not use SprintTv or have it installed so I do not know if it will fix it. You have to rename the file to build.prop and push it to /system/.
Ok so I'm watching ESPN all day long at work, and I turn it off so I can get ready to leave work.
While on the subway I try to access it and I get the "You must be a Sprint customer to view Sprint TV" or some crap like that. I'm like ok, maybe because I might be roaming on Verizon network its not letting me. So I wait until I have a good signal and try again, same error message.....
I tried restarting phone, disable and re-enable mobile network, and checked to make sure I wasn't roaming. No Luck.
Look for the Tmobile ported one
Has anyone tried it on Darch's rom. It's based off of the legend which is for sprint?

Ok... The amount of problems I have experienced going from SC Rom, SimpleClean or whatever it was, to Heinz57 is extremely ridiculous... I'm going to skip all that I've done and go straight to the problem. Heinz 57 requires me to have EC10 kernel and radio or whatever. Well being on SC I had EC01. The only thing I found was to go to stock to get EC10 kernel and radio. Well, the very first time I flashed a rom, I was a noob, and forgot to freaking backup my stock rom, so I lost my stock Cellular South rom. In trying to get CWM and all this crap fixed and working, I eventually got Heinz57 installed, but I didn't have Cell Data, you know, like the internet. I could make calls, text, blahblah, but no 3G or anything like that. Then it hit me, this happened when I installed some stock rom that was for U.S. Cellular or some bull, but when I read it, it was for my phone, which is Mesmerize, and it was EC10, and one of the posts in there said it would take everything, even the radio. Well apparently something went wrong, so I'm thinking, why not get the stock rom for US Cellular for 2.1 and then use Kies to upgrade to 2.2, well apparently that's all it did was upgrade it. Because my phone was still US Cellular. Basically I either need the stock rom for Cellular South (2.1 or 2.2). I GUESS? Will that fix my radio? Is there just a radio I can flash with Odin? I've tried some EC10 radio I found in the Facinate forum (For some reason everything in the Mesmerize forum points to the Facinate forum, whatever. Lol), but it didn't do anything. Maybe EC10 just won't work on my phone? Do I go back to EC01 then just say whatever and try installing Heinz on that? I don't know I'm so lost haha. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT: Sorry, the radio I flashed was EC01, not EC10.
This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029436
EDIT2: So with @davidbruington informing me that I have a Showcase, I tried installing the EB11 files and Radio. No change. Same thing.
CS Showcase should have originally came with DJ20 radio.. I too made the mistake of flashing a Fascinate radio trying to get my TXTs to work with Evil Fascinate rom "awesome ROM BTW". Well I got TXTs working and lost data. Afterwards I have flashed all the Showcase ROMS, even the one with EB11 which supposedly works with the Showcase and data is STILL broke. So something gets changed flashing to a fascinate/mesmarize radio and back. If I knew what to look for I'd open up CDMA workshop and change it back. Anyone have any ideas? I will also add that after flashing to EB11, *228 gives me a programming failure everytime I try.
Both of you are running radios not built for cell south. Go to irc and get help. And stop flashing odin files not for your phone if you don't know what you're doing. Roms don't include a radio, so flashing them isn't going to fix your problem.

Not to mention, if you have cell south then you have a showcase, not a mesmerize. Hopefully that'll help you in the future. They are different, even if just slightly.

This isn't my first goat roping.. I've been flashing phones since the early Nokia days. I'll tell you what there isn't though, I list of radios and what hardware/carrier they are good for. I have a T-Mobile HD2 and soon a G2X and at least in the HD2 thread they warn which radios are ONLY for the T-Mobile variant.. in a RADIO Sticky thread. Can you blame me.. EVERY one of these phones whether a Fascinate, Mesmerize.. or in this case a Showcase "branded as a Galaxy S" all have the hardware model number of SCH-i500! I only found the Mesmerize threads warning of problems AFTER I had convinced myself that the phone in my hand was a Fascinate after searching the model number on google, and the first stop was XDA Fascinate forums. I think XDA needs to invest in grouping the phones better as the list on the main page is growing out of control.. would also help in the confusion and problems such as what I have encountered.
It's not xda's fault you assumed that everything for a fascinate would work for a showcase. A little research would have yielded the obvious answer that no, they are not all the same. Why else would there be separate forums for them? And separate versions of roms for the mes/showcase? Because they are different. And the radios are not universal, which is why you no longer have data. Again, go to the mes irc and they can get you back on track with a showcase flash.

What I am getting at is that ALL of these SCH-i500 model phones shouldn't have their own main thread.. mesmerize, fascinate, galaxy s, showcase, etc etc.. just because carrier X has given them a unique branding name.. hell, I didnt even know this phone was a "Showcase", it says Galaxy S on the back of the cover.. if you look here under galaxy S it has a model of i9000! If the hardware is in fact identical, the main thread should be devoted to it.. such as HTCs code names. Yes.. assumptions are bad but I did do a good bit of research.. it was only until I F'd up and had to search for the problem I was having that even more searching revealed that the phone I had wasn't a fascinate. Now the problem at hand.. the phone isn't bricked, its just the radio flash has changed something.. and even flashing back to a compatible radio didn't change this certain thing back. If it could be changed it should be able to be changed back.

All galaxy s phones are not the same, which is exactly why they have separate forums. You have not flashed a radio that is compatible for your phone because, as I said, roms do NOT include the radio. There is not a standalone radio flash available for the showcase. Your only option to get this fixed is to go to the mes irc chat and get what you need there.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I've been to the mesmerized IRC channel and I have d/l the EB11 Showcase rom which in fact included the radio. It did not fix the data issue. Are you trying to say all SCH-I500 model phones are not the same hardware apart from differing software? Do they have different ram or flash ammounts? From everything I've seen they are identical: 1 GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8, 384 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM... difference ROM/software. As I've said before.. somehow flashing the fascinate radio "EC01" has changed some internal register and flashing back to the EB11 SC radio will not change the appropriate register back. I've seen much harder problems fixed by people of the XDA forum.. just not enough users with SC phones to warrant an investigation by the people who would know how to correct this particular problem.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
The hardware is probably identical except the actual wireless transceiver that is built for each carriers network. In some cases, you can use a different radio (the software that operates the transceiver) and it will work. But the problem with any software not written expressly for your device is not the device itself, rather the problem is that the software does not contain the proper id, settings, and configuration for your carrier. That is why everything on xda always carries with it the "at your own risk" disclaimer.
That being said, most of the folks in the irc are experienced devs, who would probably be glad to try and help you remedy the pickle you're in, if you asked nicely. If you go in there with a "this is your fault, fix it" sort of attitude, then you may be **** out of luck.
Do you have to brown nose them? No. But it couldn't hurt. They put up with a lot of **** here, and fortunately they keep providing us new and exciting software to experiment with. For free.
That's my two bits. Do what you will.

I have all the respect in the world for the development.. they make our phones more than just a communicating device but a fun gadget and hobby for some. I'm well aware of the risks for this hobby.. I've had my share of mistakes believe me. Its more a gripe about xda-dev forum than this device.. back when there were only a dozen phones on here it was hard to mistake them apart.. I bought an O2 xda II s because there wasn't a GSM phone like it at the time.. now we have literalle a hundred different model phones and now different branding of the same phone on different carriers.. organization here is critical.. almost overwhelming. My first search gave me a result.. but not exactly the correct information. Cellular south is not large enough to have their own device threads.. I've known that for a long time. The only info I had was it was called a galaxy s and had a model of sch-i500. My search of galaxy s landed a model of i9000.. I knew that was not correct so I figured CS just slapped the name galaxy s on another device.. marketing blah. My next search of the model landed the fascinate device which looked identical so I figured I had it.

Well, now that we have berated you enough (Lol) lets see if we can help you remedy the situation. So calls and texts work, but no data. Is there a data icon? 3g or 1x?
If you can gain access to the hidden menu you may be able to learn a bit more about whats causing this. At one point my phone (for whatever reason) was stuck in 1x only. I opened the hiddenmenu and changed it to force evdo (3g) waited till it changed to 3g mode, and then switched it back to hybrid.
Sometimes tinkering makes a world of difference. Im not really sure what else to tell you from here... I'm no dev by any means.
Btw, some of the info in the hiddenmenu is generic. For example, I have uscc yet even on a stock rom some of the messaging configurations have crap related to vzw (verizon wireless). If you screw something up, a fresh reflash of the Odin package should set the hiddenmenu options back to default again.
Hopefully someone with more experience than me, who knows all about radios and the like, will step in and direct you further.
Edit: Btw, wolfstar, I'm sorry dude I didn't mean to hijack your thread. My dumb ass didn't pay close enough attention to realize that there's two people in this thread with similar problems...

Not a problem, lol. I did get my problem fixed though. I'm not gonna lie, I have NO idea how, but I did.
To answer your question, no, I did not have 3G or 1x by my signal. Just the signal bar.
To answer how I fixed it, I wish I could tell you guys. I went to the IRC and someone pointed me to a stock ROM which I flashed, and it didn't work. That was an EB11 rom I do believe. Then I did some searching and apparently I found out that no one really has the full stock EB11 rom because the modem would never get fully flashed, and I was like, maybe that's my problem because I went from EC10, which was not supported for my device but for some reason still gave me signal to call people and what have you, to EB11. Well I was like, since there is no EB11 I'll go to the one below which is DJ20. When I did, it didn't work. I was so disappointed. Turned out the DJ20 rom didn't have the modem in it at all, because I check my About Phone menu and I still had EB11 for the baseband. Well I did the *228 just for the giggles, (NOTE: I have been doing the *228 every time I flashed a rom when trying to fix my issue, just to see if maybe it will fix something.) and let my phone reboot. When it turned back on, still no data. This was my last straw, because I had honestly run out of every option I had left. I set it down to think what else there could be to do, picked it back up and unlocked it and BAM, 3G. I have no idea how, or why, but somewhere in what I did it fixed it. Maybe when I went back down to DJ20 and did *228 it downloaded what little bit I was missing in the transition from DJ20 to EB11. It's my only hypothesis.
Thank you guys for all the help. I know you guys didn't have the answers but at least you tried.
ALSO. I did go through my settings with each flash, to make sure they were correct, and they were all on. So I know that my data was on in each flash.
I hope that maybe someone can use this little bit of info one day to either AVOID this or FIX it. Goodluck!
Glad you got it fixed! yeah I remember reading something about cell south demanding its packages removed or something? Apparently they are uberstingy. Anyway, good job and thanks for posting it here for others.

crap.. I could have sworn I too flashed back to a dj20 rom but maybe not. The roms contain APN settings correct? would anything BUT an original Showcase rom in theory not work? It doesnt make sense because even after flashing to the EB11 Showcase rom my data still did not work.. its almost like there is some NVRAM that stores APN settings that must be set by an original flash. Wolf, after you flashed EB11 did *228 give you a failure every time you tried it?

No, every time I did *228 it was always successful and it would reboot my phone, but even after it rebooted it was still the same. Check your About Phone and see if you have the EB11 Baseband, if you, try what I did and get the DJ20 ROM and do the *228.
I can gladly say that I still have 3G/1x with no problems.
Hey, guys. Hoping some of you experts can help me diagnose what's wrong with my Samsung Infuse. I bought it off Craigslist at the end of May, and the guy had the phone with the original screen protector on it, with the original case and all accessories, so I had no reason to believe it had any problems. He told me the phone was already rooted & unlocked, which I wanted since I signed up with Straight Talk. I used it for June & July and had a host of problems, so I put on the CM10 ROM last week to see if it helped. It didn't. Here are the problems I continuously encounter:
1. When going to unlock my phone with a pattern, once in awhile it won't detect my finger-presses. Sometimes nothing shows up at all, sometimes one of the dots will highlight as I pass over it, but it won't draw. Eventually the screen turns off, and I turn it on and try it again. Usually it ends up working.
2. The battery dies much quicker than I expect it should. I tried running JuiceDefender and not running JuiceDefender, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Even without using my phone much for anything, even with the screen off, the battery will run out before the day is out. It's like if you were driving and had a hole in your tire... seems like some sort of a leak.
3. The cell radio seems flaky. Sometimes I won't get texts on time. A lot of the time I can't access any data, which is very important as I use Google Voice for lots of my texting, so I send a text and it won't go out. Loading web pages or reloading my email shows that it is a data problem.
Those are the primary problems, and I suspect that somehow they are all related. I'm not sure if the Craigslist guy sold me a lemon, or there is some other problem that came up. I've tried multiple ROM's and disabling every app I can think of. Can anyone think of anything that would cause these problems & any way to fix it? Or do I just own a broke phone that I have to throw in the garbage?
Thanks in advance for reading!
a whole slew of problems can lead to a whole slew of possibilities for your issues.
first, i wasnt aware that you could do any of this on a straight talk phone, but i could be wrong. i am not the "expert" you may be looking or hoping for, though one i am sure will show up.
second, i think the response you may get is......did you go to JB straight from Gingerbread??? that will cause HUGE problems.
dd you read OP and follow to a tee??? again HUUUUGGEE problems.
the "never fail" here.....READ READ READ. feel confident as to what you are doing and follow steps one at a time. UNDERSTAND steps one at a time.
first thing that never hurts.....return to stock and start from scratch.

if that doesnt work, you might have to get some mortar, you've got yourself a BRICK.
i know almost everyone else here is more of a expert than i am, but i do believe that is where they will tell you to start
good luck and be sure and thank the experts

While I have no idea what you're getting at by your Straight Talk comment, as ST is little more than AT&T service that's sold through a 3rd party at a discounted rate, the fact that he's using ST may be part of his problems, at least in regards to the network issues. I'm also having an unbelievable amount of data issues on ST. ST is having some network problems that are affecting a decent amount of customers who are on their AT&T network.
One thing that the OP may want to try is this: Download DNS Changer from the Play Store, and change your primary and secondary DNS to OpenDNS1 and OpenDNS2. Or try different settings, as there are a bunch that are available. That has made at least some difference with my data connectivity issues.
Based on my own experience, having tried to go to JB directly from GB, is that if it's going to affect your radio, it's likely to completely wipe out your EFS data so you won't have ANY cellular or data networking capabilities. As stated, that's simply based on how it worked out for me, and there could easily be other side-effects that just didn't happen to show up for me.
I agree with returning completely to stock UCLB3, with the GB bootloaders. Then flash Entropy's 4.4.2012 Kernel, which will also install CWM Recovery. I'd personally reccomend Heimdall, as it seems to be somewhat simpler. Detailed information on returning to stock via Heimdall can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629079&highlight=heimdall+uclb3
If you use it, be sure to thank qkster for making it available. He's probably the most helpful person you're likely to find on this forum, especially where us noobs are concerned.
I would take it back to stock and start all over.
Here is a very helpful thread.

I agree with parrot head. When issues arise go back to stock. That's the best part of our phones. They are damn near impossible to really mess up. Just have to be ware of bootloader flash going wrong. If you got your gb rom from keis your good to go though.

Appreciate the response, guys. I guess it doesn't hurt to try to start from scratch... AGAIN! It just seems like I'm putting an awful lot of hours into putting new ROM's and bootloaders on this phone. Going to be especially frustrating if I go through all the steps and it still doesn't fix my issues, which would mean my phone is broke. Oh well, guess I have little other choice.
All of the issues sound related..
It shouldn't take long to drop to stock and flash up to JB.. I've bobbled and missed steps here and there and have had to return from stock more times than I care to admit.. even rooting and flashing up the ladder only take about 20 minutes if even that..
Good luck!

Yes, the flashing process isn't that long, it's getting back my phone to all of my customized settings that ends up taking weeks. Home screen icon positioning, logging in to every app, system settings, etc.

Spent a whole day going back to stock, then CWM red, then ICS, then Jellybean. Things seem to be markedly better, but the phone still seems laggy in a few places. Is this just because it's not the latest and greatest processor?
Also, the GPS just does not work right. It's still identifying me as being in Missouri even though I'm in Nevada. Consistently. Do I just have to live with that?

Are you still using the Trebuchet Launcher that comes built-in to the JB ROM? If so, that may be part of your lag problems. I just use ADW EX launcher. Here's an excerpt from the Paranoid Android JB OP:
******* EVERYONE: If you experience a sudden lag for no reason, IT is due to Trebuchet. GOOD NEWS though... From reading the log cat on my end, there is a very simple fix... Go to settings -Launcher - Homescreen - And Check "Resize any widget" and you are good to go! Instantly fixes the lag problem that a few have been experiencing. I have located the source code that needs to be changed and this will be enabled by default on future builds. ********

As far as the GPS goes, I think Samsung just used ****ty receivers in the Infuse. My GPS isn't quite as bad as yours seems to be, but it's nowhere near as accurate or reliable as the GPS chipset in my crummy little Optimus V.
I have tried a few custom roms and then when I reflash back to any of the 3 stock roms floating out there for the GS3 Verizon my Google Play Store remains permanently broken. Alogcat indicates that it is getting back an unexpected response code 400 from google. I suspect this may mean that it fails to update because SSL is broken in some way but I could be wrong.
I have done all the normal things one does to bring back the market such as clearing the data on Google Play and services framework and rebooting, but that has no positive effect. Nor does deleting my account and re-adding it or creating a new account. Also Google+ will say "No Connection" but once I close out of it and reopen it, it will always log in to my account automatically without error. I will say that the error is reminiscent of the kind of error you would expect if your time is wrong, but it is correct. Any help will be appreciated it..

I love how people comment in a thread telling you that you posted in the wrong section, but don't offer up any advice.
I don't know a whole lot about your issue, but instead of flashing a stock rom maybe you could odin back to stock, accept OTA, and start over?
Not sure if that would clear up your issue, but hope I helped...!

Thanks Josh, but yea I have been flashing back to stock via Odin a lot, more times than I can count now! I've been using the HOME_I535VRALF2_I535VZWALF2_618049_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5 image file but Kies says it is the most recent as well so there is no newer OTA to come down. I've also tried LG and HD roms via Odin, but regardless the Google Play Store remains broken. I am positive that I have restored everything back to its original configuration as per multiple guides on the subject. It is extremely frustrating as I have spent countless hours now trying to fix this one issue. I've spent more time researching this issue on google, in the forums and irc chat rooms and speaking with more devs than what those people would care to know about. There is a serious issue here that is being ignored.
I develop iPhone apps, I do IT support, and network infrastructure for a large manufacturer and I always get a great deal of enjoyment figuring things out but something like this, which should be so simple and just work, ticks me off to no end. For me this just creates the case in point why it makes it difficult for me to care much for the Android platform as a whole. It still has a lot of growing up to do before it catches up with iOS. I use a phone to get from point A to point B and I expect a certain baseline level of performance and things to just work. I left the platform 2 years ago and from the outside it looked as though things have been improving, but I can see now that not much has changed in the OS or community and the platform isn't ready for much of anything beyond a tablet for me personally as it is just a no go as a phone OS.
I would really like to figure this out still.. so to the first person who can give me the resolution or help me significantly in some way I will gift $50 to you over paypal.

Well, you don't seem to be flashing a Base ROM using Odin. It being broken like that usually indicates DPI issues, which are carrying across ROMs.
1. Is your phone encrypted? (Do a reset and Erase everything from within, that should fix it) Settings > Backup and Reset > Reset
2. Is the ROM you are flashing using Odin a Base FW?
I had this happen on an old incredible. What it turned out being was that my phone wasn't activated. I don't think that is your problem because it sounds like you use it, but could be a corrupted area of the phone that flashing doesn't touch. I don't think its a ROM because I've flashed them all and my market has always worked.
I would try a couple things to see if either helps. First, Odin back to stock then turn you phone off pull the sim card, boot back up and let it settle, power off put the sim back in and power up. Second, if that doesn't work dial *2767*3855# to repo vision your phone, but this factory resets and people say it erases your internal SD card so back that up. Hope one of those help.
Also if neither of those work, try a new sim card. That seems to fix 90% of peoples problems on this phone.

kintwofan, you may be on to something. I have flashed the 3 base roms for my phone G7, LG, and HD to no avail. I actually use this phone on another carrier and so I have manually programmed this phone myself. So there may be something regarding the activation that is causing this issue.

Sounds like may need a buildprop change. Try changing buildprop to your carrier. Although one of my rezounds is on Tmobile without problems. Using T-mobile APN. S3 should auto add the APN. At least it does with international sim.
Use market enabler then to see if you can tell it your carrier. I'm sure you can Google the apk
You could also still do the reprovision, but I'm sure you'll have to reprogram it.

OTA attempts to activate this phone on the carrier fails, hence the manual programming. I have tried market enabler and and market unlock but they fail to work in the stock roms and the synergyrom. The only rom that has a working Market/Play is http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/roms/cm10.unofficial.nightlies I specifically used 1005 and 1012 and they both work fine.
I don't know what he does differently but it works for whatever reason.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788443
I just don't really care for the rom, it seems like my reception and wifi has issues on it vs the stock.

Interesting, so the reprovision didn't work? Have you tried just pulling the play store from his gapps? Also, you could try his jellywiz ROM maybe he did the same thing to it were your play works, if you like touchwiz. I guess you could also upload the build.prop from that working ROM and I'll compare it to mine when I get time and see if I notice any major differences.
By the way have you tried Eclipse ROM, its very nice and bug free.

Still looks probably to be a buildprop vs carrier change issue. CM is built off source and works and the TW roms are built off different carrier bases and don't work. Playstore looks at the buildprop.
Hi all,
I finally decided to add a custom rom to my SK4G. I had retired it for a year or so, not from getting a new phone, but rather my youngest child dropped it in a mud puddle. I had put it in rice and all that good stuff. I was able to get it to turn back on, but it has very very very low battery. So I put it on the charger, and it would briefly show the charging symbol and disappear. So I had assumed that it was totally shot, And while I was disappointed, because I love this phone, it still was not surprising. I mean it was in a mud puddle right. LoL
Well about 2 weeks ago I got bored, and figured what the smudge, I will ticker with it. I figured, I couldnt do any worse to it than what was already done. So I once again tried to see if it would charge. Tried by wall charger, by car charger, and by USB charging. But alas once again nothing. Well my husband also has a SK4G. So I ganked his battery for a little bit, and lo and behold, it worked. Turned on flawlessly, and not one issue in the operating system at all. Well at least as flawlessly as a stock SK4g could get. lol
So I was thinking maybe the charger slot had shorted out for whatever, from it being in the mud puddle. I put the battery from my SK4G in my husbands phone and agin tried all 3 charging methinds, and still nothing. So I pluged my phone in with his battery and it went to charing just fine. Okay so, new battery. Not that bad, but I dont order anything over the net. I hate waiting, I live in a big enough city, I figured I could go to one of the electronic stores and get one.
So I tried 5 different places, no one had a replacement for it, but once gain I was impatient and didnt want to wait. Did some googling and found out Batteries plus carries a replacement for it. Wasnt thrilled by the fact that they charge 2 to 3 times more for it that other places. But whatever, if it got my phone running again, okay. I had my oldest son pick me up one on his way home from work. Gave him the stock battery numbers and all that. He brings it home, and I go to put it in and..................It is not even close to being a compatible replacement for the samsung battery. Went back down there and returned it. Told the sales clerk that their website was completely wrong. Upon looking through their wall of replacement cell batteries, I did find another battery that was a perfect match. Only to have the "Battery Expert" argue with me about it being the right one. Finally got him to stop running his mouth and bought the battery.
I had just recently ended my contract with t-mobile, and wanted to take my SK4G with me to a new carrier. Well in order to do that, I needed to unlock the network. So it was research time. Googled and found XDA. Which from then on has ben invaluable to the process. Found Sidekick 4G Unlocking *Follow Directions Closely written by troby86 and SuperOneClick - Root/Unroot Your Samsung Sidekick 4G by Ayoteddy .Had a few problems with SOC. It kept freezing at step 7. Took me a few to find the reason why ( answer is in the forums here, just took some digging and reading to find. The culprit was the "Exploit setting needed to be set to "psneuter". Changed that and finshed rooting with out any more problems on that part.
Next had to unlock the network, following the above mentioned thread. Tried it 2 or 3 times to no avail. Then it dawned on me that I hadnt rebooted after I got it rooted. So rebooted and tried the terminal part of it again. And Bingo! It took the commands or whatever you would like to call them. SK4G was now unlocked. Yay!
SInce I had already been in the forum looking at the unlock and root guides. I decided why not go ahead and put a custom rom on it too. I loved my SK I just loathed the software on it. Constantly freezing while surfing the net or trying to use facebook. I spent a bunch of time browsing the forums, reading the comments on all the roms and trying to decide which rom I wanted to use. I had orginally choose CM6-Merged.
So read the thread on it, and even watched a youtube video by sinesolder. The next task was to chase down all the files I needed to install that, plus the CWM stuff too. I flashed CWM using the app "Root Manager" in the play store. Next was to swap out the "recovery" file. Took a few mins to find it, but did. Placed it in the root of the SDcard along with the update zip. Downloaded Astro file manager from the play store. Went to bottem of list and copied the recovery file, then pasted in system/bin folder. Rebooted, clicked reinstall packages on the stock (blue) recovery screen. But it was a no go. it would not give me the orange CWM. It just ket saying E :file invalid, or some such rubbish. So back to combing the forums again. Had stumbled upon a post some where here, that said something about MNT/SDcard. And sure enough, I copied the recovery file from the MNT/SDcard directory, then pasted in the system/bin. Reboot again, reinstall packages and BAM Orange CWM! But before I flashed my first rom, i wanted to get the red CWM/voodoo recovery. That way I didnt have to worry about mounts while flashing. After much reading again in the forum, I found that the red CWM was already included with the Bali Kernal. Reboot again, then install from SDcard, choose Bali Kernal and installed. Woo Hoo red CWM was up and going. phew.... lol or so I thought. Plugged phone in and put CM6 - Merged on the SD. Back to recovery, wipe factory, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. Then install from SDcard again, chose CM-6 Merged.
This is where I had a bit of a panic. As I was not paying atternion the what Kernal or Baseband the rom was made to run with. So that ended up soft-bricking my phone. But yet again, XDA to the rescue. Searched it out and found the "ODIN to stock" thread. Just had to track down the right TAR and PIT files. I was orginally on KJ2 stock before I did anything, but I could only find the KD1 TAR. No biggie tho, just used the ODIN to stock method and I was back in business again.
Since I am far from having any real knowledge about roms and their internal workings and what-nots. I went about just trying to find roms that would run off of the Bali Kernal and the KD1 baseband. I did find working links to a few of them, not exactly sure how many, but I had serval choices. I went with GingerClone v.2.
Back to reboot, wipe factory, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. Install from SDcard, chose GingerClone and installed. Booted up and everyhting was all hunky dory again. Ran that rom for a few days. And yes it was a really nice rom, and it was faster than stock. It just was quicte what I was looking for.
Back to looking for ROM files, seeing which links were still good and trying to figure out which one I thought would work best for me. Tried TouchMIUIwiz v3, and again very good rom, but still not quite right. Decided to spend a whole day just comparing roms that would work with Bali and KD1. There are only a few roms that are made with KD1. So I wanted to go back to KJ2. I was thinking the only way I could do that was if I wiped again and the hooked up to Kios (or whatever it is called), But no, I found a working like to a KJ2 file. After another set of wiping in recovery, then Flashed the KJ2, then Flashed Nexus CM. Been messing with in for fwe days, and have to say I really really like this one. It has been smooth as glass and quick as a rabbit. I am thinking as long as I dont run into any major problems or bugs with it, this wil be my daily driver.
But I do have a question, since most of you have been here for awhile, and have been able to try out alot of these roms when they were new. Whick rom, in your own opinion, would make web surfing fast and smooth, and also works awesome with facebook? have already rooted and unlocked my husbands SK4G, but he surfs the web and does his facebooking from his SK, and it loves to freeze up and lag out when using both of those things.
Now that I am at the bottom with this, very sorry if my post seemed to long or anything else. Thanks in advance!
That's quite the story there. Crazy to believe it still works.
As for the ROM question, really all of the ROMS for SK4G are outdated. Due to software available. The only ROMS that I would say are up to snuff now are the neXus GB and JB ROMS by RicAndroid. They are chock full of tweaks and scripts. But keep in mind, you're not going to be on the actual newer Android versions. So it may run better, and it may be faster, but only so much.
Hope this helps

I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be just a battery issue.
Thanks for the answer on the roms. I realized that these are older roms now, and its not the most crrrent version of android and all that, and I am totally fine with it. I am just looking for something that is better, smoother and faster than the stock stuff on the phone, for my husband. He still uses his SK4G as well. In fact I dont think I could get him to upgrade to a new smartphone phone/ android device anyways. So I was just looking for something to stop his constant frezzing issue while he is web surfing and things like that. You were very helpful tho, so thanks a bunch.
I agree with Zydrate_Blue; the Nexus JB ROM is about as good as it gets with this phone.
Thanks guys! I will have to d/l and flash it.

For a smoother internet interface. Get yourself NakedBrowser. They've got a free version that works just lovely. I haven't tried the paid version myself, but if may very well be worth it for someone who uses it a lot!
