[Q] disappointment after disappointment - Samsung Mesmerize

First off I would like to say hi and thanks to everyone on here, this forum rocks! But I honestly feel my Mesmerize has been a bigger disappointment to me than my Behold I had with T-Mobile! I switched to US Cellular and this phone cause they have better coverage where I live, and I wanted a phone I could customize so i wouldn't have the same thing as everyone else lol. I did the 2.2 update as soon as it released, toyed around with some of the other firmwares on here and what not before it was available, but started having the problem where my phone wouldn't notify me of incoming calls. So i used the files on here to go back to 2.1 using Odin and rooted for future possibilities, I receive every call now. But onto my questions lol, I was wondering if anyone on here has found a way to fix the incoming call problem on 2.2 that i had? How can I get voodoo onto my phone the way it is right now? I have tried every way described on here and through searching, keep finding dead links, phone will not update zip from sdcard on reboot, have tried numerous files that way! If you guys could post some links that would help me out with my problems, to files, and what not, that would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long winded post, just tired of searching everywhere and not getting anywhere, thanks!

Honestly, there *is* a thread that covers what you're after; it's bde's How to Customize your Mesmerize thread found Here. I should probably get on him to update the "First get Stock Froyo on your phone" link, because it does have an old link last time I checked. That's about the only one that I know of, every other link works.
Above all, make sure to always wipe your cache (any "Wipe ..." option you can find, one is under Advanced, except for Battery Cache) once you get Clockwork Mod (CWM) Red Recovery installed before you flash a ROM. It really does make things flash better, fewer FCs, and so on. There are times when you can get away without it, but in that event it's best to assume things will be glitchy unless they aren't. From the brief information you gave, I'd suspect that's what happened to your phone.
Best advice anyone here will give you: Read read read. Following that, read some more. Some people can only learn by doing, sure, but become as intimately familiar with the processes and terms as you can.
I suspect I'll do this a lot, but check out the Glossary in my signature, and read through the whole post. It should give you all the little "this goes here, but doesn't work there" kinds of pointers you need, all in one place.
Good luck! Hopefully from here on out, you can really enjoy your Mesmerize, and welcome to the forums!

Hi, thanks for the reply. I do need to read through the glossary post you put up a little more thoroughly, just kinda glanced so far LOL. I also have checked out that link as well, but honestly I won't go back to froyo, not worth the missing calls to me when my phone is how I make a living at the moment. Just mostly interested in finding a lagfix and the voodoo sound for 2.1.

Missing calls has never been a problem with froyo as far as I'm concerned. Uscc did realease their official version not long ago, getting 2.2 by that means should be flawless.

The US Cellular froyo upgrade is what i used and had all the problems with not being notified of my incoming calls, its a very well known problem from what I have found out by searching on google, took my 4-5 times of calling me before my phone rang, and he is with US Cellular as well
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

As a quick note, the missed calls thing is actually a Samsung issue that is known and is/was an issue on both 2.1 and 2.2 that is being worked on and a new firmware release is coming soon from what I have seen. I'm hoping to have more on that soon.

Officially rooted!

I just rooted my Captivate. Tired of waiting on AT&T/Samsung to bring the goods, plus I love this kind of thing. I followed this procedure to root the device. "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304"
It worked like a charm! Now on to bigger and better things...
Thanks to TGA_Gunnman for the instructions!
Congratulations on your very successful accomplishment. You should embrace this moment with joy and bliss. It is truly an honor.
Seriously tho, get crackin on some roms. Kthxbailmaoimhigh

Funny when I read the word "Kthxbailmaoimhigh" I immediately pictured Cowboy Wayne getting attacked by a raccoon...
Anyway, where is a good place to start looking for roms?
Here. Make sure to backup your NV_data.bin or your whole /efs folder is better. just in case...
And Gratz!
EFS Backup here is the one I followed.
[ROMS]
Axura
di11igaf's
Perception < I would wait for Perc 10 to roll out.
Odin One Click really good thing to have and learn to use.
Cognition
Just look in the Dev section and you shall find many. **hopefully the devs will get them into rom manager eventually**
If I already backed up my current rom through ROM manager, does it take care of that?

I wouldn't chance it. I just edited the last post to give you some links. I'm really not sure that that method is the perfered or not. so I just copied the whole folder with adb to my computer. You have adb in the "one Click root" app, get used to using it. It comes in handy in bad situations.
Oh, and there is a different Odin for flashing other roms with, though I've never looked for it. From my understanding it's what you will need to use if you ever wish to restore from a nandroid backup while completely wiping the phone first.
Course that's just my understand from what I've read on it.
Good luck, have a blast! give Axura 2.5 a spin, you might like it.
Welcome. Rooted a while back but finally installed my first ROM over the weekend. Cognition for now...and very very happy and eagerly awaiting some cookies. From all the reading I did, it seemed like the easiest to start with for a beginner (someone here did a great 3 part video walk-through of Cognition on you tube).
Yeah, I started out with Perception 9, switched to Axura while the file system thing gets worked out. May endup staying Axura though I haven't gone through the videos though and I keep forgetting bout them. I started flashing back on the 8525, so I'm used to written directions. How were the videos? were they easy to follow and understand?
Successfully backed up my efs folder...
No problems to report as of now...
Back ground in Linux makes this all quite easy!
Now looking for the roms....Which ones are the bombs? Was that corny???

lol, nah. well, the ones I linked to seem to the the most worked on as they are always at the top of the forum. Axura's Dev Adam seems to be on top of his creation. he's usually really fast at answering questions too. Perception is a nice rom too, but like I said I'd wait for 10 to roll out. Designgears again seems to be on top of things. he yanked perc 9 off the download list soon as he saw Samsung screwed the pouch on the file system bug even though he didnt use that particular kernal. for safeties sake. those are my two favorites. Cognition isnt bad, seems stable and gave me no problems.
Also, when I was using Perc 9 (till 4 hours ago), I had voicemail notifications. I noticed the others dont seem to notify me. I thought it might be the nv_data.bin so I copied my original over but that didnt seem to help.

I read that the voicemail issue is due to the ROM being Vibrant-based. The recommended fix is to use Google Voice and have it push voicemail notifications via text message (as well as transcribing via email).

[Q] [FIXED] Cellular South Mesmerize Help

FIXED.
Go to my post to see what I did!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14498494#post14498494
Ok... The amount of problems I have experienced going from SC Rom, SimpleClean or whatever it was, to Heinz57 is extremely ridiculous... I'm going to skip all that I've done and go straight to the problem. Heinz 57 requires me to have EC10 kernel and radio or whatever. Well being on SC I had EC01. The only thing I found was to go to stock to get EC10 kernel and radio. Well, the very first time I flashed a rom, I was a noob, and forgot to freaking backup my stock rom, so I lost my stock Cellular South rom. In trying to get CWM and all this crap fixed and working, I eventually got Heinz57 installed, but I didn't have Cell Data, you know, like the internet. I could make calls, text, blahblah, but no 3G or anything like that. Then it hit me, this happened when I installed some stock rom that was for U.S. Cellular or some bull, but when I read it, it was for my phone, which is Mesmerize, and it was EC10, and one of the posts in there said it would take everything, even the radio. Well apparently something went wrong, so I'm thinking, why not get the stock rom for US Cellular for 2.1 and then use Kies to upgrade to 2.2, well apparently that's all it did was upgrade it. Because my phone was still US Cellular. Basically I either need the stock rom for Cellular South (2.1 or 2.2). I GUESS? Will that fix my radio? Is there just a radio I can flash with Odin? I've tried some EC10 radio I found in the Facinate forum (For some reason everything in the Mesmerize forum points to the Facinate forum, whatever. Lol), but it didn't do anything. Maybe EC10 just won't work on my phone? Do I go back to EC01 then just say whatever and try installing Heinz on that? I don't know I'm so lost haha. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT: Sorry, the radio I flashed was EC01, not EC10.
This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029436
EDIT2: So with @davidbruington informing me that I have a Showcase, I tried installing the EB11 files and Radio. No change. Same thing.
CS Showcase should have originally came with DJ20 radio.. I too made the mistake of flashing a Fascinate radio trying to get my TXTs to work with Evil Fascinate rom "awesome ROM BTW". Well I got TXTs working and lost data. Afterwards I have flashed all the Showcase ROMS, even the one with EB11 which supposedly works with the Showcase and data is STILL broke. So something gets changed flashing to a fascinate/mesmarize radio and back. If I knew what to look for I'd open up CDMA workshop and change it back. Anyone have any ideas? I will also add that after flashing to EB11, *228 gives me a programming failure everytime I try.
Both of you are running radios not built for cell south. Go to irc and get help. And stop flashing odin files not for your phone if you don't know what you're doing. Roms don't include a radio, so flashing them isn't going to fix your problem.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Not to mention, if you have cell south then you have a showcase, not a mesmerize. Hopefully that'll help you in the future. They are different, even if just slightly.

This isn't my first goat roping.. I've been flashing phones since the early Nokia days. I'll tell you what there isn't though, I list of radios and what hardware/carrier they are good for. I have a T-Mobile HD2 and soon a G2X and at least in the HD2 thread they warn which radios are ONLY for the T-Mobile variant.. in a RADIO Sticky thread. Can you blame me.. EVERY one of these phones whether a Fascinate, Mesmerize.. or in this case a Showcase "branded as a Galaxy S" all have the hardware model number of SCH-i500! I only found the Mesmerize threads warning of problems AFTER I had convinced myself that the phone in my hand was a Fascinate after searching the model number on google, and the first stop was XDA Fascinate forums. I think XDA needs to invest in grouping the phones better as the list on the main page is growing out of control.. would also help in the confusion and problems such as what I have encountered.
It's not xda's fault you assumed that everything for a fascinate would work for a showcase. A little research would have yielded the obvious answer that no, they are not all the same. Why else would there be separate forums for them? And separate versions of roms for the mes/showcase? Because they are different. And the radios are not universal, which is why you no longer have data. Again, go to the mes irc and they can get you back on track with a showcase flash.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
What I am getting at is that ALL of these SCH-i500 model phones shouldn't have their own main thread.. mesmerize, fascinate, galaxy s, showcase, etc etc.. just because carrier X has given them a unique branding name.. hell, I didnt even know this phone was a "Showcase", it says Galaxy S on the back of the cover.. if you look here under galaxy S it has a model of i9000! If the hardware is in fact identical, the main thread should be devoted to it.. such as HTCs code names. Yes.. assumptions are bad but I did do a good bit of research.. it was only until I F'd up and had to search for the problem I was having that even more searching revealed that the phone I had wasn't a fascinate. Now the problem at hand.. the phone isn't bricked, its just the radio flash has changed something.. and even flashing back to a compatible radio didn't change this certain thing back. If it could be changed it should be able to be changed back.

All galaxy s phones are not the same, which is exactly why they have separate forums. You have not flashed a radio that is compatible for your phone because, as I said, roms do NOT include the radio. There is not a standalone radio flash available for the showcase. Your only option to get this fixed is to go to the mes irc chat and get what you need there.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I've been to the mesmerized IRC channel and I have d/l the EB11 Showcase rom which in fact included the radio. It did not fix the data issue. Are you trying to say all SCH-I500 model phones are not the same hardware apart from differing software? Do they have different ram or flash ammounts? From everything I've seen they are identical: 1 GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8, 384 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM... difference ROM/software. As I've said before.. somehow flashing the fascinate radio "EC01" has changed some internal register and flashing back to the EB11 SC radio will not change the appropriate register back. I've seen much harder problems fixed by people of the XDA forum.. just not enough users with SC phones to warrant an investigation by the people who would know how to correct this particular problem.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
The hardware is probably identical except the actual wireless transceiver that is built for each carriers network. In some cases, you can use a different radio (the software that operates the transceiver) and it will work. But the problem with any software not written expressly for your device is not the device itself, rather the problem is that the software does not contain the proper id, settings, and configuration for your carrier. That is why everything on xda always carries with it the "at your own risk" disclaimer.
That being said, most of the folks in the irc are experienced devs, who would probably be glad to try and help you remedy the pickle you're in, if you asked nicely. If you go in there with a "this is your fault, fix it" sort of attitude, then you may be **** out of luck.
Do you have to brown nose them? No. But it couldn't hurt. They put up with a lot of **** here, and fortunately they keep providing us new and exciting software to experiment with. For free.
That's my two bits. Do what you will.

I have all the respect in the world for the development.. they make our phones more than just a communicating device but a fun gadget and hobby for some. I'm well aware of the risks for this hobby.. I've had my share of mistakes believe me. Its more a gripe about xda-dev forum than this device.. back when there were only a dozen phones on here it was hard to mistake them apart.. I bought an O2 xda II s because there wasn't a GSM phone like it at the time.. now we have literalle a hundred different model phones and now different branding of the same phone on different carriers.. organization here is critical.. almost overwhelming. My first search gave me a result.. but not exactly the correct information. Cellular south is not large enough to have their own device threads.. I've known that for a long time. The only info I had was it was called a galaxy s and had a model of sch-i500. My search of galaxy s landed a model of i9000.. I knew that was not correct so I figured CS just slapped the name galaxy s on another device.. marketing blah. My next search of the model landed the fascinate device which looked identical so I figured I had it.

Edited the OP
Well, now that we have berated you enough (Lol) lets see if we can help you remedy the situation. So calls and texts work, but no data. Is there a data icon? 3g or 1x?
If you can gain access to the hidden menu you may be able to learn a bit more about whats causing this. At one point my phone (for whatever reason) was stuck in 1x only. I opened the hiddenmenu and changed it to force evdo (3g) waited till it changed to 3g mode, and then switched it back to hybrid.
Sometimes tinkering makes a world of difference. Im not really sure what else to tell you from here... I'm no dev by any means.
Btw, some of the info in the hiddenmenu is generic. For example, I have uscc yet even on a stock rom some of the messaging configurations have crap related to vzw (verizon wireless). If you screw something up, a fresh reflash of the Odin package should set the hiddenmenu options back to default again.
Hopefully someone with more experience than me, who knows all about radios and the like, will step in and direct you further.
Edit: Btw, wolfstar, I'm sorry dude I didn't mean to hijack your thread. My dumb ass didn't pay close enough attention to realize that there's two people in this thread with similar problems...

Not a problem, lol. I did get my problem fixed though. I'm not gonna lie, I have NO idea how, but I did.
To answer your question, no, I did not have 3G or 1x by my signal. Just the signal bar.
To answer how I fixed it, I wish I could tell you guys. I went to the IRC and someone pointed me to a stock ROM which I flashed, and it didn't work. That was an EB11 rom I do believe. Then I did some searching and apparently I found out that no one really has the full stock EB11 rom because the modem would never get fully flashed, and I was like, maybe that's my problem because I went from EC10, which was not supported for my device but for some reason still gave me signal to call people and what have you, to EB11. Well I was like, since there is no EB11 I'll go to the one below which is DJ20. When I did, it didn't work. I was so disappointed. Turned out the DJ20 rom didn't have the modem in it at all, because I check my About Phone menu and I still had EB11 for the baseband. Well I did the *228 just for the giggles, (NOTE: I have been doing the *228 every time I flashed a rom when trying to fix my issue, just to see if maybe it will fix something.) and let my phone reboot. When it turned back on, still no data. This was my last straw, because I had honestly run out of every option I had left. I set it down to think what else there could be to do, picked it back up and unlocked it and BAM, 3G. I have no idea how, or why, but somewhere in what I did it fixed it. Maybe when I went back down to DJ20 and did *228 it downloaded what little bit I was missing in the transition from DJ20 to EB11. It's my only hypothesis.
Thank you guys for all the help. I know you guys didn't have the answers but at least you tried.
ALSO. I did go through my settings with each flash, to make sure they were correct, and they were all on. So I know that my data was on in each flash.
I hope that maybe someone can use this little bit of info one day to either AVOID this or FIX it. Goodluck!
Glad you got it fixed! yeah I remember reading something about cell south demanding its packages removed or something? Apparently they are uberstingy. Anyway, good job and thanks for posting it here for others.

crap.. I could have sworn I too flashed back to a dj20 rom but maybe not. The roms contain APN settings correct? would anything BUT an original Showcase rom in theory not work? It doesnt make sense because even after flashing to the EB11 Showcase rom my data still did not work.. its almost like there is some NVRAM that stores APN settings that must be set by an original flash. Wolf, after you flashed EB11 did *228 give you a failure every time you tried it?

No, every time I did *228 it was always successful and it would reboot my phone, but even after it rebooted it was still the same. Check your About Phone and see if you have the EB11 Baseband, if you, try what I did and get the DJ20 ROM and do the *228.
I can gladly say that I still have 3G/1x with no problems.

root/no root

Im coming from a droid x and find to root this alittle challenging. While I cant get root I havent found one that I like. My whole purpose if to just get rid of bloat. After my last attempt I got crappy reception and wanted to unroot. I did and reception was back to normal. After all the problems and what with the gingerbread files I didnt want to go that route with that radio. So what are my options? With the last root attempt I used the 1 click method, was that my problem? Do I need to read up more on adb commands. Or should I say screw it and stay stock? There are multiple roms out there but havent found one for my particular needs. I know I bought this phone to learn more and be a challenge but this is trully a pain in the ass. So comments advise is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't give up if i were you, rooting is the way to go. And ya thunderbolt is "different" but it seems from here on out most lockdown phones will be this perplexing at times, but good news to use, some companies have given up and will open up there future phones boot loaders. And its not because it lock down it just because they weren't "meant to be rooted and optimized for the user".
It seems weird that your reception got worse due to rooting, i have not heard that problem before or seen it posted in these threads. Most of the complants from rooting is either having random reboots, or the unfortunate brick or root didn't actually work for them.
Just make sure your up to date with the froyo radio when you were rooted, I know you cant check now, but maybe you used an older one the auto root method was using? Its worth a check. The newest one has had some good reception Verizon sent in a OTA.
And i used an auto one click way and it worked for me so it may depend on what one you used. But its advised to use adb.
Also there are a lot of basic de-bloat roms out there, they are just buried at the end of this forum, and never get updated because once they are de-bloated there is not much left that needs to be updated.
And dont worry about the Gingerbread problems, I wish i never left Gingerbread, i have had more problems on froyo then i was on gingerbread. With froyo i still have problems, but Gingerbread seems to run so smoothly, and a new leak is hopefully around the corner, there was one up but it was taken down and senior moderators said its coming be patience.
hope this helps
All rooting does is give you access to system files. There's no way that it would mess up your radio.
I'm also curious where the "1 click method" is.

Thanks for the link, in my search I had a couple of other ways to do it but I did search.
Rooting is the only way to TRUELY enjoy this phone and all it has to offer IMO.
Ok well all of a sudden my phone cant receive call or make them but can make and receive texts? Any ideas on that. I got a phone call yesterday but it was a little wack. Called tech support and now no calls.

Is my Samsung Infuse DEAD?

Hey, guys. Hoping some of you experts can help me diagnose what's wrong with my Samsung Infuse. I bought it off Craigslist at the end of May, and the guy had the phone with the original screen protector on it, with the original case and all accessories, so I had no reason to believe it had any problems. He told me the phone was already rooted & unlocked, which I wanted since I signed up with Straight Talk. I used it for June & July and had a host of problems, so I put on the CM10 ROM last week to see if it helped. It didn't. Here are the problems I continuously encounter:
1. When going to unlock my phone with a pattern, once in awhile it won't detect my finger-presses. Sometimes nothing shows up at all, sometimes one of the dots will highlight as I pass over it, but it won't draw. Eventually the screen turns off, and I turn it on and try it again. Usually it ends up working.
2. The battery dies much quicker than I expect it should. I tried running JuiceDefender and not running JuiceDefender, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Even without using my phone much for anything, even with the screen off, the battery will run out before the day is out. It's like if you were driving and had a hole in your tire... seems like some sort of a leak.
3. The cell radio seems flaky. Sometimes I won't get texts on time. A lot of the time I can't access any data, which is very important as I use Google Voice for lots of my texting, so I send a text and it won't go out. Loading web pages or reloading my email shows that it is a data problem.
Those are the primary problems, and I suspect that somehow they are all related. I'm not sure if the Craigslist guy sold me a lemon, or there is some other problem that came up. I've tried multiple ROM's and disabling every app I can think of. Can anyone think of anything that would cause these problems & any way to fix it? Or do I just own a broke phone that I have to throw in the garbage?
Thanks in advance for reading!
a whole slew of problems can lead to a whole slew of possibilities for your issues.
first, i wasnt aware that you could do any of this on a straight talk phone, but i could be wrong. i am not the "expert" you may be looking or hoping for, though one i am sure will show up.
second, i think the response you may get is......did you go to JB straight from Gingerbread??? that will cause HUGE problems.
dd you read OP and follow to a tee??? again HUUUUGGEE problems.
the "never fail" here.....READ READ READ. feel confident as to what you are doing and follow steps one at a time. UNDERSTAND steps one at a time.
first thing that never hurts.....return to stock and start from scratch.
"super everything thread" under development.
Odin "stock-root & modded 3e rcovery.
follow all directions TO THE TTT.
if that doesnt work, you might have to get some mortar, you've got yourself a BRICK.
i know almost everyone else here is more of a expert than i am, but i do believe that is where they will tell you to start
good luck and be sure and thank the experts

While I have no idea what you're getting at by your Straight Talk comment, as ST is little more than AT&T service that's sold through a 3rd party at a discounted rate, the fact that he's using ST may be part of his problems, at least in regards to the network issues. I'm also having an unbelievable amount of data issues on ST. ST is having some network problems that are affecting a decent amount of customers who are on their AT&T network.
One thing that the OP may want to try is this: Download DNS Changer from the Play Store, and change your primary and secondary DNS to OpenDNS1 and OpenDNS2. Or try different settings, as there are a bunch that are available. That has made at least some difference with my data connectivity issues.
Based on my own experience, having tried to go to JB directly from GB, is that if it's going to affect your radio, it's likely to completely wipe out your EFS data so you won't have ANY cellular or data networking capabilities. As stated, that's simply based on how it worked out for me, and there could easily be other side-effects that just didn't happen to show up for me.
I agree with returning completely to stock UCLB3, with the GB bootloaders. Then flash Entropy's 4.4.2012 Kernel, which will also install CWM Recovery. I'd personally reccomend Heimdall, as it seems to be somewhat simpler. Detailed information on returning to stock via Heimdall can be found in this thread:

If you use it, be sure to thank qkster for making it available. He's probably the most helpful person you're likely to find on this forum, especially where us noobs are concerned.
I would take it back to stock and start all over.
Here is a very helpful thread.

I agree with parrot head. When issues arise go back to stock. That's the best part of our phones. They are damn near impossible to really mess up. Just have to be ware of bootloader flash going wrong. If you got your gb rom from keis your good to go though.

Appreciate the response, guys. I guess it doesn't hurt to try to start from scratch... AGAIN! It just seems like I'm putting an awful lot of hours into putting new ROM's and bootloaders on this phone. Going to be especially frustrating if I go through all the steps and it still doesn't fix my issues, which would mean my phone is broke. Oh well, guess I have little other choice.
All of the issues sound related..
It shouldn't take long to drop to stock and flash up to JB.. I've bobbled and missed steps here and there and have had to return from stock more times than I care to admit.. even rooting and flashing up the ladder only take about 20 minutes if even that..
Good luck!

Yes, the flashing process isn't that long, it's getting back my phone to all of my customized settings that ends up taking weeks. Home screen icon positioning, logging in to every app, system settings, etc.
Didn't create a backup?

I've always created backups with Titanium Backup, but when I restore the apps, a lot of them ask me to re-login or re-verify myself.
Thanks for the advice guys.
Spent a whole day going back to stock, then CWM red, then ICS, then Jellybean. Things seem to be markedly better, but the phone still seems laggy in a few places. Is this just because it's not the latest and greatest processor?
Also, the GPS just does not work right. It's still identifying me as being in Missouri even though I'm in Nevada. Consistently. Do I just have to live with that?

Are you still using the Trebuchet Launcher that comes built-in to the JB ROM? If so, that may be part of your lag problems. I just use ADW EX launcher. Here's an excerpt from the Paranoid Android JB OP:
******* EVERYONE: If you experience a sudden lag for no reason, IT is due to Trebuchet. GOOD NEWS though... From reading the log cat on my end, there is a very simple fix... Go to settings -Launcher - Homescreen - And Check "Resize any widget" and you are good to go! Instantly fixes the lag problem that a few have been experiencing. I have located the source code that needs to be changed and this will be enabled by default on future builds. ********

As far as the GPS goes, I think Samsung just used ****ty receivers in the Infuse. My GPS isn't quite as bad as yours seems to be, but it's nowhere near as accurate or reliable as the GPS chipset in my crummy little Optimus V.

Trying to install Rom

I have the T959v android phone, which I found out is a bit more complicated than my Samsung Vibrant.
I am running the gingerbread kernel after using Kies.
I have finally successfully flashed the T959v using Heimdoll following this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
Super User has been installed using SuperOneClick.
After struggling with it and reading on some sites it's possible and some sites it's not possible, I've come to the conclusion that Rom Manager is not a good idea to use, to install a Rom on my particular phone.
I want to install this Rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402966
However I reviewed the instructions and found I was lost on some parts.
I know how to get to recovery mode (with the phone turned off, hold down volume up and down and the power button)
However, here's where I get lost:
6. Perform Voodoo -> Disable Lagfix.
I do not have this option, likely because I'm missing voodoo or some sort of app. I've tried googling this and figuring out what it is, but I don't even know what a CWM is.
I haven't tried (since I'm atleast smart enough to review information before I start following them, lest I get myself stuck somewhere and unable to back out of). However I believe I can get as far as Step 5.
Unfortuantely I can't get any further.
The only apps I have installed (besides the annoying bloatware on the phone) are the ones I listed above.
This is my first time flashing a phone or doing any of the above, previously my friend did it for me.
So I apologize for whatever Incompetence I may have, however if you can simplify instructions I'm pretty good at following them.
The hard part is that I don't know how to do a lot of the instructions.
Is there a video? Perhaps a guide with pictures that includes all the software I need and how to install that software?
I'm sorry for the questions, I hope someone can help. This has been a long and frustrating process but I'm determined to finish it.
Thank you in advance.
Ah also this: "Must have pre-installed kernel with clockwork recovery!"
I cannot do this because when I try and use clockwork recovery it says it cannot support my phone.
It gives me a list of 4 devices, none of which are my phone.
Then I click on "My device is not listed" and it states the T959v is not supported.
I'm really sorry for all the questions.
Not only does this app look nice, and sound nice due to hardware acceleration. Above all it gets rid of that bloatware crap from T-mobile.
I look forward to giving this app a try.
Hello my friend i know how excited you are when it come's to flashing, installing, removing apps on your phone, but before you do any harm to your phone maybe
consider reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G before going further. it save's you a lot of time and headache plus you can avoid
flaming from other people here. and also try to use the search bar just i case you have further question's..
I advice you to take some time to read first on what do you want to your phone before doing anything.. don't be in a hurry we have tons of great roms in here..
Do not use clockwork manager...it is not for this device!
If you have super user ur rooted and good to go ...i would suggest you play around with the gingerbread roms for a spell before going to icecream sandwich roms, just so you get a feel for flashing on this device.....i too came from the vibrant and dearly miss it.
This phone is far from a vibrant but is coming along.
Feel free to pm me.....I may be a bit slow on replies since I'm working 7/12's 3rd shift.
Thank you both so much for your replies.
Warren I am checking that link out right now. Thanks
Shortbus, I miss my Vibrant too.
Technically speaking my Vibrant is still usable, but ever since I dropped it and cracked the screen it seems to have drastically slowed down (and the screen is annoying with all the cracks too).
Sad day for me.
I still want to try and get that Rom I had posted above working, as I doubt I'll move to another rom anytime after that. But I'll try and learn more about it using the link you gave me Warren. It'll probably take me several days ~_~
Shortbus I may email you with questions I come across from time to time if that's ok

If you want to install Valhalla Final - read the guide in the first link of my signature and begin where applicable.
I don't mind.
Flashing roms on this device is easy once you realize its not the vibrant lol.
Like the vibrant....this thing is near impossible to brick,....just a lil bit more complicated than the vib.....till you get to understand it.

Ah, so I should switch to Froyo instead of Gingerbread from the looks of it.
I'll get right on that I'm going to try following your guide now
edit: I saw that you switched to Gingerbread, jumped too far ahead of myself.
I'm getting pretty far along in the guide, I'm now at the part where I am about to install the rom.
I love that you guys respond so quickly too.
In the process of using Heimdall I ran into so many issues but was (slowly) able to work through them and figure them out.
It's nice to know I can come here if I have a quick question.
I'm not much help with heimdall....I use gremlin remover, its a one click Odin program....serves the same purpose....to bring you to a rooted stock state.
