[Q] need help with s on? - HTC Inspire 4G

i rooted using bubba 's gui got root and s off. I need to take phone back too att.
i tried using ace kit and the s on tool neither will turn s on . when using s on tool everything seems to work find except the power cycle emmc line says failed to load module no such directory. any thoughts about whats going on?

Check out the ace kit forum. I think I read something about that in there. That or soak the phone in water till you can no longer turn it on lol.

Go into the bootloader and see if it still says s-off I had issues and thought it want working once then when I looked it said s-on
Sent through the power of Cthulhu!

What I did to turn the s-on back on was use bubbys one click to push the downgraded Rom to the phone again just like rooting but then run the s-on tool.

There ya go. A water-damaged phone is just as returnable as a non-water-damaged phone. Or not.
And I saw your lol next to it, but still, at least make it a workable alternative.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. I was going to return it to get an atrix, but I tried the the phone at the att store. I really didn't like it. I felt like I had to because the specs. But I'm more content with the inspire.
Sent from my Inspire 4g baby

Good choice. Many people returned the atrix for the inspire.

I still can't get the -s on flag set on my Inspire 4g. I've tried it with the android terminal, adb shell, and bubby's S-ON tool. All of them appear to complete successfully, but I'm still seeing S-OFF in hboot.

I couldn't get anything to work either. I had to run bubbys one click to the point that it boots in the downgraded ROM. Once it booted into the downgraded ROM, I ran the s on tool. Worked perfectly once I did that.

You still have to turn the radio security back on. Which I'm not sure how to do.

It looks like some people have been successful getting S-On following the procedure in that thread (starting at post #27, but the whole thread's worth a read)

That sure seems like a lot of trouble compared to the iPhone restore,, Someone should make something so we can create a backup of everything on the phone before we start to modify it and then if we ever mess the phone up we can then just restore it.. Maybe one day huh
So lost
Ok I have downloaded s-on , do I put that on the sd card?
I wasn't successful in unrooting based on the link you provided. The settings simply stated that I do not have permission to change from S-on to S-off...anyone else tried going back to complete stock?
Use the guide that is stickied at the top.

I'm already rooted running CM7 so I wouldn't be able to test this out.
Does anyone know of a reason this wouldn't work ?
I have a stock Inspire headed my way today and one way or another it is going to be rooted within an hour or so of it getting into my mitts !
Is there a SBF for the Inspire so I can reload the original ROM should things go south ?
To perm root this phone, the hboot(bootloader) has to be downgraded to take advantage of an exploitable one to get S-Off(nand lock) so radios and roms can be flashed. Gingerbreak only temp roots and doesn't attain s-off.
Search for the RUU, it's what's needed restore the stock unrooted rom.

Downloading the Stock now, thank you !
Should have searched before asking.
Going to give it a go as I haven't seen anything written about it. Figure as long as I have a stock to get back to it can't do much harm, that and it will wipe the SD card which is handy as it is a used phone. I go through a few and some of the things people leave on their old phones amazes me. Can be amusing though !

Temp root for latest OTA 2.3.4.?

As the title implies, wondering if any of the temp root methods work with the latest OTA update? I know I could go permanent, but I usually only reboot 1 time a week and I don't mind stock right now. I really just want to use Titanium and freeze some apps.
Thanks

You would have to start by using the HTC Unlock Bootloader process at http://htcdev.com.
Once you have HTC unlocked, then you can install ClockworkMod recovery and then flash and install the su_2.3.63.zip to root your ROM.
Just use Revolutionary as everyone else does, works fine

Yeah, and I was mostly wondering about temp rooting first. I am trying to steer clear from CWM for a bit as it seems there are issues with phone charging. Temp root would be great as I really only reboot 1 or 2 times a week.

It works with 2.3.4.
BUT not my Sensation w OTA 2.3.4
I am somewhere around a noob or a noob=, but I have tried so many times to root my Sensation and no joy. I have downloaded the Revolutionary "ui" and I only get a brief flash on the cmd window.
I have read that I need to do this 2 or 3 times to get it to work, is this true? Do I need instead to place the revolutionary code at top of the SD mem card? I also previously ran the SDK and got all the way to the congratulations step but nothing else was said to perform, am I lost or did I move to noob- from noob+?
I have a TMO USA Sensation with OTA 2.3.4 and HTC unlock code installed, HELP!

@Chh, use HTC sync on your phone when you plug the usb cable to pc, run Revelutiinary.exe as administrator, it should work. If you're on Windows 7 you may need to reinstall the drivers and run in compatibility mode XP with service pack 2. I had a few hiccups while rooting two different Sensations and this method worked for me. Hope this helps.

The latest OTA update for 2.3.4 has a new hboot version and Revolutionary does not work with this version because HTC has closed the previous root exploit. That is what the OP has been asking about all along.

Yes x2
The tool works with the latest hboot 1.18.0000, but as per my post above you may need to run the tool 2 or 3 times before it works. You will get an error about a comms error and to go get some lemonade. Just reboot phone and rerun the tool.

Rhiannon, wow you are right about the Windows 7 shoulld be run in XP comp mode. I made all the progress in the world even being asked to enter my beta key, however it was rejected (several times). So I will do a fresh download of "revolutionary.io" and unzip it do the XP comp & admin properties hopefully they (the people who make revolutionary.io) are doing some kind of timestamp checking because I entered without any errors the key. If that doesn't work don't know where to turn. Oh by the way I am using a TMO USA OTA 2.3.4 update and the phone has the TMO unlocked bootloader. Yes I installed the new HTCdriver files 3.x x x something, too and removed the HTC Sync.
Now what?
Permanent root does work with revolutionary with an OTA 2.3.4 updated phone. I did it

I'm a noob. I followed the guide and rooted a 2.3.4 phone with Revolutionary just like everyone else. No issues. Phone is running great.
One thing that wasn't clear to me however, was that you need to put the files on the SD card as a zip file. I was being a bit over helpful and extracting them first. Didn't work until I figured that out.
@cch copy and paste the beta key, it's case sensitive, do this by copying the beta key then in the Revelutionary command window, at the top left hand corner right click and choose paste, the other steps I gave you were working so your entering the key wrong. That's the only thing it could be, it took me a Fe times to enter it correctly. Also, Revelutionary will boot into fastboot and it will loose communication, you will have to do it 3 times and then banjo, s off. I hope it works for you. These are they exact steps, it worked for me on two different phones, also the Revolutionary site confirms it is working on the t mouse 2.3.4 update, I had the same ROM as you.
Glad if i helped. Hit my thanks button. Thanks.

Could someone post a thread for unrooting?

Anyone trying to warranty their device would love to have a sure method of unrooting, getting S-ON, basically making their phone completely out of the box status again.
Thanks

Working on it here. Adding pictures and such, for now a bare walkthrough.
S-OFF back to S-ON is impossible, no way to do it, one way trip.
Once you go from S-ON to S-OFF, you're stuck there. Period. No exceptions.
The closest you can get is to restore the stock image and be with the 1.44.0007 hboot that still says s-off.
I had an g2 and I sent in 2 phones both rooted and s-off with no problems. Has anyone ever heard of them giving flack for rooted devices?

They're instructed not to even "touch" them if they're modified in such way.
I guess it really depends on how nice the person who received it is.
