[Q] Return Sensation for DHD or other? - HTC Sensation

Hi,
I'm fed up with all the bugs returning in my Sensation.
Recently I even found dust underneath the screen.
I'm thinking of selling my sensation and getting an other device.
Is this a good idea? Which one works as designed? Is the DHD a good bet?
I'm afraid if I keep the Sensation or even let it repair for dust under the screen, the bugs will keep coming and the dust will keep returning under the screen.
If you take the cover of the sensation it's full of dust, even though I keep my phone in a cover at all times and never let it sit in my pocket if I'm at home or at work. Has anyone yet returned there sensation for a repair? Results?
Cheers

Hi, there is already a few threads discussing the dust & repair options. Secondly this should be posted in the Q&A section.
Regards.

Go for Incredible S if you need HTC Sense.
It is better snappier and an awesome screen compared to washed out screens in DHD and Sensation(A lil better than DHD).
Or
SGSII - If you don't look for HTC Sense.

Sorry about the wrong category. (maybe a mod can move this)
I don't wanna talk about the dust, i wanna talk about the alternatives, what you guys think.
That's good advice, rselva_kr, is it safe to assume the incredible doensn't have many of those bugs? Is it a more sturdy phone?

Almost no bugs at all with stock GB ROM. I have one in use with my wife now, which i used for a while. Also, a better battery than DHD and good battery life. Front facing CAM also there. It have already been SOFFed and custom ROMs also there if you wish.
Its the best device so far from HTC in all aspects as per my opinion. Provided i have used all the recent HTC & other popular devices like LG O2X, SGSII, Sensation, Desire HD, HD2, HD, Motorola Atrix .....

Dude I'm so sick of seeing theese kind of useless posts in this forum .....if your not happy and want to downgrade then go ahead ,its not a question we can answer ,only you can make yourself happy,I wouldn't return my sensation for any phone right now

I know that i'm not happy with the phone.
And i know that i want to downgrade.
However, I don't want to swap the phone for another phone which won't do htc justice.
That's where i need the advice of others. I'm sorry if this kind of post annoys you, but so far it has helped me.

Well in that case I would go into the forums of the phones I was considering and ask questions there. You'll probably get more accurate answers from people who use the phones every day than in a forum for a different phone

[Q] Planning to buy G2x.. but...

Hello everyone,
Im planning to get this phone off craigslist but im afraid that the phone that i am about to purchase is going to have the reboot/freeze issue. Im not worried about the screen bleeding though. So can you tell me an easy way to identify if the phone has this problem? I know il come to know eventually once i purchase it but i wanted to see at the time of purchase from the seller. So please any suggestions are welcome. (some specific manufacturer date, or packaged date or location on the box etc ) any details that will help me if there is any specific pattern for this.
Thanks in advance.
U'll only know after u buy the phone.Save ur $ money,Sensation is just around the corner.

Hmm
Thanks for the response. yeah i have seen that it is coming soon (and i like the way it looks) but i dont want to wait for it a month more(to be available with out contract by the same way).
Also,
1) i want to have an unlocked bootloader as a precautionary measure just incase i get to start to flashing roms
2) Heard that Sense eats lot of RAM and i want an option to remove it if i feel the same
3) Im sure it is gonna cost lot more than the G2x.
4) And i feel G2x's GPU would be powerful than the sensation.
Wat say?..

Yeah tq for the link. it is indeed informative for choosing g2x vs sensation. I am biased towards g2x and stock android. (i have a G2 and i love it). So wanted to know if i can live with those problems incase i get stuck with a bad phone :S. I dont want that to happen

The only thing I can think to do to check the phone is ask the owner not to reboot the phone for any reason and when you go to purchase it look and see how long the phone has been on since reboot and If it doesn't match up with what the owner says it is probably rebooting. I have had two so far and had no real reboot issues plus from what I have read LG is aware of the issue and will be issuing an update soon for the bugs. I also debated on the Sensation but decided to stick with the G2X. Hope this helped
So here's a guy who has gotten both the galaxy s 2 and the htc sensation.
http://www.youtube.com/user/samjpullen
From what hes been saying on twitter and the videos Ive watched i think apart from the animations and ui I think id rather have the g2x
The ui is very ram heavy but its very beautiful so I guess its a trade off.
Apologies if I'm breaking any forum rules here, but Costco currently has the G2X for $49.99 if you are adding a line. You might use this info when dealing with your CL seller! Comes with a car charger and BT headset. I'm off to Costco right now to get one!

I have confidence that the sensation will get root access eventually, but the process to root may be harder compared to say the G2 or the G2x, and that's still an if it gets rooted. Htc and battery life is always an issue, and the sense ui plain sucks. It does not even look good and I don't know why htc insists on making it so you are forced to use it...it should be optional.

Dust underneath the screen - manufacturing defect

As per title really...has anyone else experienced dust getting underneath the touchscreen?
on one of the rare days of sunshine last week I noticed a small amount of dust under the screen. It's going back to vodafone for "repair"
Not a good sign on a two week old device!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Are you saying that originally your Sensation had no dust under the screen and dust developed there over time?
Someone was showing how the case design causes link to get in other areas, but I wonder if this also is the cause of dust getting under the screen???
And there's another thread about this same issue.
This is very depressing.
I've really hit a point where I'm wondering if this is the right device for me .
Edit October 25, 2011: I've had a Sensation for 3 months now and have not had any issues. The vast majority of Sensation owners don't have this issue.

This is how it goes in the beginning, unfortunately. Remember, this is a small percentage of actual Sensation phones we're hearing about here. Then again, I'm coming from the G2X...talk about issues.
I bought the Nexus One at launch, and had many issues. However, it turned out being the best phone I ever owned.
Sorry for creating another post.... Been on this board every day for weeks looking for root info and clearly missed it. :-(
Yes by the way... I mean no dust when I got it and now dust!
I still love it though... Just annoying that going to be without it for a week. Back to my leedroid gb desire... I'm glad I hadn't ebay ed it yet!

Could anyone who is using Sensation longer than two weeks confirm that not all these devices are affected by this? I've seen a lot of posts about it, and I am concerned if only some of them are affected or just few unlucky pieces...
I was looking forward to get this phone since they did not announce it on Barcelona, I knew HTC has something they didnt want us to see, few weeks later my wish came true, now its finaly here, and I am struggling if I should buy it or not... the WIFI problem doesnt look that serious to me, and seems like I could live with it(I am barelly using BT, and WIFI only at home, where the signal is better than good)...
Please, is here someone who doesnt have this problem after few weeks of usage? Still, if all the phones are affected, what would be the matter of getting it exchanged/fixed after two weeks, if I'll get the same phone again with the same issue, and two weeks later I will have to get that fixed again...
I too would like to hear from people who have *not* had dust issues and happen to keep their phone in their pocket or someplace where dust can get in. I'm looking at getting this phone today, and this is the first I've heard about dust. Had dust in my HTC Hero back when I had that phone, drove me nuts. Actually used to take it apart about once a month to do a thorough cleaning, and I kinda thought that after that phone, I wouldn't have to deal with that kind of issue anymore.
I havent had any dust underneith my screen but I do have a gel cover on that sort of seals any areas where dust can get in.

Using mine since 27/05. It spends half of the time in the pocket, the back cover was taken off a few times as well. There's dust all around the screen where it meets the cover but none underneath the actual touchscreen.
Quite bad idea for a back cover IMHO but no dust issues so far. Standard issue Vodafone IRL Sensation

Long as it's not getting under the touchscreen it's not "too" big of a deal... The screen should be fused tightly enough that none every should get under there, theoretically speaking...

My HD2 was fine before I even loaded a custom ROM on it. I was stock the first 30 days with no complaints.
But XDA can mostly address software, not hardware issues. No custom ROM can kick dust from under the screen .

So I go to the Tmobile store and asked how they work with Dust under the screen. He said if its a widespread problem that a ton of people are having theyll replace them. But he said if no one reports it then they might not replace them.
I got two specs under my screen now. All the walmarts are sold out, and I only have 14 days to return. Im stumped on what to do.

Regarding the T-Mobile store. What the heck does the rest of the Sensation owning public have to do with YOUR Sensation having a defect? Even if 1 is defective it should be replaced. It should not require a fixed percentage.
Personally, I'd return for full refund before the return period runs out, but that's just me...
If it ALREADY has 2 specs under the screen. What do you think it will have 30 days from now, 1 year from now? That's a rhetorical question.

Yea what I meant was I want another one but they are all sold out lol. I wouldn't mind if tmobiles gonna replace it anyways keep it until the dust is unbearable.
But ur right I might just return at walmart and wait for another shipment.
reminds me of what was going on when i got my nexus one.. i was able to escape that issue then and i hope to escape it now

[Q] I have 2 days left. What's your opinion?

I have two days left to return my S4G and I was wondering do you guys think I should keep it and my contract extension, or return it because there is still no fix for the low volume for the notification and phone ringtones , no S-off yet and still nothing better than the battery killing NoLED to replace the lame stock LED notification.
Just interested in your guys opinion. Thanks
I believe you should keep it. Just ask an Incredible s owner. They were in the same position as we are. Just take a look at them now!!!!
If you don't like the phone, why keep it? I don't think we can decide for you.
I also think you should keep it.
Root will come sooner or later and it is a great phone
Return it for what though , what does tmobile offer that is even close ,nothing IMO , the only phone that is worth going back to is the HD2 , I'm just gonna be patient and wait to see what happens ,I like this phone more and more every day
I think you should decide. Why ask people who have no tie in to you or your happiness in life? I'm fully happy with mine. Some other guy probably isn't. So we would have 2 different answers for you.
Honestly up to you if your hot happy with it return it and save your upgrade, I think Samsung hercules is comming out sometime in September? But yeah if your not happy return it you can always get it again to if you miss it

I would go back to my rooted N1 IF I was to return the S4G
I would return... In fact I did! Back to G1. Waiting for SGS2. No bootloader = No sale.
Sent from my HTC Dream using Tapatalk
wow, to the G1? thats a HUGE downgrade i was on the fence about selling the S4G, going back to my HD2, but i will be patient, HTC has had my business for 8 years now, and i have faith that they will come through, i just gotta stop refreshing XDA and FB/htc
EDIT: lol forgot to post my actual comment keep the phone, its amazing and will only get better with age, the N1 is a prime example of intial headaches turning into pure joy
again though, you be the judge, its all a preference of style and function
Good question, here's my honest take...
I'm in the same position as you, but I have until next Friday to decide. If HTC doesn't come to their senses and fix the bootloader lockout then I'm taking it back. I agree with one of the other posts that it IS a good phone, but the Sense UI is bogging it down and being a super user I want to use my phone's full capabilities! If I do take it back, I will wait to see whether T-Mobile wakes up and adds SGS2 to their line-up and get it with my upgrade or HTC fixes their issue (as stated) and I'll go back and get a new Sensation. Although I'd hate to go back to my Vibrant until then, I think I'd be happier. But in the end it's up to you friend...
i am in the same boat my friend. i have a few days to decide. i was already pissed that the phone had less RAM and a smaller battery than the EVO 3D. Then I found out that the New MyTouch is going to have "the best" camera on a smart phone. Trying to figure out what makes the sensation a true "flagship" phone right now. It is the best phone on t-mo right now in its category, but i re-upped early. HTC limited the specs of the Sensation intentionally. Just don't want to regret my decision in December because i wanted to stop using my laggy hd2 (running Android). decisions, decisions...
I am in similar decision. For one thing, I am not impressed by the speed over my Captivate (1ghz hummingbird-overall phone speed not 4g vs 3g). Second, the wifi seems to disconnect a lot (set to never). I was having all kinds of Force Closes on apps, so I factory defaulted the phone. Seems better now, in that respect. But the wifi issue is irritating and I don't think I am getting enough out of this phone to warrant the ETF on my Captivate.

You nailed it! Loved my HD2, and the Sensation is as good as it's going to get right now.
same boat here. I do not dislike the Sensation, but for some reason I find that I can do all the basics much easier on my rooted Vibrant. If this phone was unlocked I would definitely keep it and let the developers do their thing. I just do not believe HTC will be making a move anytime in the near future. But I do agree, without the SGSII, not much else on the horizon (a 4.5 inch phone is just too big)

[Q] samsung galaxy s2??????????

Hi all, I currently have the HTC sensation, but thinking about exchanging it and putting a bit of cash towards to getting the Samsung Galaxy S2?
Is this a wise choice? as i have only had my sensation for a few weeks and have being hearing problems about dust under the screen, I do not want my sensation to get to this stage, so I need advice on whether to replace it with the Samsung galaxy S2.
basically I would appreciate if someone answered the 3 following questions:
Is replacing the HTC sensation with the samsung a wise choice? ( I use it for web browsing, music, playing games, taking pics and videos and texting)
Does the samsung have any major defects with the majority of there devices like the sensation does?
Is it worth it?
I think they're fairly equal on the things you'd use it for.
Have a look on the GS2 forums for things like defects.
Depends on how much you get for your Sensation and the price of the GS2 I'd say. Personally, I'm quite unconcerned about dust under the screen etc. but if you are concerned and feel the GS2 is better for you overall then go for it.
Does the dust effect the phone in terms of performance? and the S2 is like £60 more second hand. got my sensation for something like £215. Oh and another question, the sensation sometimes locks itself when i am browsing or typing? any ideas? this is another issue what is making me think about exchanging it for the s2.
thanks in advance
Honestly, I'm not sure. I can't see why it would. £60 more is reasonable if you definitely want the GS2.
Hmm, that's odd. What ROM are you using?
Stock ROM. no root or anything. weird! and very annoying when it does it :/ and i think i might stick to the sensation then, if there is some sort of fix to the problem i am having. thank you for your replies
Must be annoying!
Have a look under display for the 'Timeout' and see what the time is.
timeout is 45 seconds, not 2 seconds which it seems to think sometimes lol. if it gets on my nerves too much i suppose i will get the S2 in febuary. Thanks alot for replying
No problem.
If you're willing to, then you could try changing ROM's. Then you can ascertain whether it's a problem with the software or hardware i.e. the lock button.
Great idea, went on a different website and its quite common by looks of it from what i have read, they say its hardware problem which is a bummer.

[Q] Have to Choose a phone in One Hour

First, I am sorry for the thread, I know most of them can be found by searching, but I have a friend coming from USA (in which the phone prices are less than half of what they are in my country) who asked if I want a phone. I have to decide very quickly, his plane will take off in a few hours I think. I have a Galaxy S now and I have to ask these questions:
1-) Is installing a stock ICS rom possible? I've seen a thread which says S-Off is not possible so I don't know what is going on. Actually I've never heard of S-off, I've never used a HTC phone. Just guessing.
2-) Is the micro arc oxidation problem solved? Will I have problems too?
3-) How is the screen?
4-) What is the difficulty of installing ROM's in HTC devices? It was easy for Samsung phones.
5-) Do you recommend it? Any major flaw other than Micro arc oxidation failure?
Thanks, please quick!
Had more problems on the galaxy s while flashing.
display is similar to the galaxy s
Have no real problems

Well your 1 hour deadline is long gone !! But if you still want my answer here it is:
-The One S Comes with ICS so no need to worry about that, S-OFF is in development so you also dont need to worry about that
-Micro Arc Oxidisation is only for the black One S, So if you get the silver version you will be fine, Otherwise, Im not sure this issue has been addressed, It depends on the batch version, If its a newer one it *could* be fixed.
-The screen is awesome, Some people dont like amoled, But i guess you do (having SGS1) its better than the SGS1 its a lot more vivid and sharp
-Flashing ROMs is easy, Just as easy as the Samsung, Just be sure to READ ALL THE GUIDES first, you should be ok, We have a very helpful crew in these forums.
-I would highly recommend it, Some users consider the 16gb memory a flaw, as only 10gb is for the user, However you do get 25gb dropbox space with this phone, So if memory isnt a huge issue for you...... GO FOR IT !!!
