[Q] samsung galaxy s2?????????? - HTC Sensation

Hi all, I currently have the HTC sensation, but thinking about exchanging it and putting a bit of cash towards to getting the Samsung Galaxy S2?
Is this a wise choice? as i have only had my sensation for a few weeks and have being hearing problems about dust under the screen, I do not want my sensation to get to this stage, so I need advice on whether to replace it with the Samsung galaxy S2.
basically I would appreciate if someone answered the 3 following questions:
Is replacing the HTC sensation with the samsung a wise choice? ( I use it for web browsing, music, playing games, taking pics and videos and texting)
Does the samsung have any major defects with the majority of there devices like the sensation does?
Is it worth it?

I think they're fairly equal on the things you'd use it for.
Have a look on the GS2 forums for things like defects.
Depends on how much you get for your Sensation and the price of the GS2 I'd say. Personally, I'm quite unconcerned about dust under the screen etc. but if you are concerned and feel the GS2 is better for you overall then go for it.

Does the dust effect the phone in terms of performance? and the S2 is like £60 more second hand. got my sensation for something like £215. Oh and another question, the sensation sometimes locks itself when i am browsing or typing? any ideas? this is another issue what is making me think about exchanging it for the s2.
thanks in advance

Honestly, I'm not sure. I can't see why it would. £60 more is reasonable if you definitely want the GS2.
Hmm, that's odd. What ROM are you using?

Stock ROM. no root or anything. weird! and very annoying when it does it :/ and i think i might stick to the sensation then, if there is some sort of fix to the problem i am having. thank you for your replies

Must be annoying!
Have a look under display for the 'Timeout' and see what the time is.

timeout is 45 seconds, not 2 seconds which it seems to think sometimes lol. if it gets on my nerves too much i suppose i will get the S2 in febuary. Thanks alot for replying

No problem.
If you're willing to, then you could try changing ROM's. Then you can ascertain whether it's a problem with the software or hardware i.e. the lock button.

Great idea, went on a different website and its quite common by looks of it from what i have read, they say its hardware problem which is a bummer.

That could be the power button issue im not sure. check for a software update on your phone. apparently there is an update that fixes that

I updated yesterday, and it did it this morning :/

[Q] I have 2 days left. What's your opinion?

I have two days left to return my S4G and I was wondering do you guys think I should keep it and my contract extension, or return it because there is still no fix for the low volume for the notification and phone ringtones , no S-off yet and still nothing better than the battery killing NoLED to replace the lame stock LED notification.
Just interested in your guys opinion. Thanks
I believe you should keep it. Just ask an Incredible s owner. They were in the same position as we are. Just take a look at them now!!!!
If you don't like the phone, why keep it? I don't think we can decide for you.
I also think you should keep it.
Root will come sooner or later and it is a great phone
Return it for what though , what does tmobile offer that is even close ,nothing IMO , the only phone that is worth going back to is the HD2 , I'm just gonna be patient and wait to see what happens ,I like this phone more and more every day
I think you should decide. Why ask people who have no tie in to you or your happiness in life? I'm fully happy with mine. Some other guy probably isn't. So we would have 2 different answers for you.
Honestly up to you if your hot happy with it return it and save your upgrade, I think Samsung hercules is comming out sometime in September? But yeah if your not happy return it you can always get it again to if you miss it

I would go back to my rooted N1 IF I was to return the S4G
I would return... In fact I did! Back to G1. Waiting for SGS2. No bootloader = No sale.
Sent from my HTC Dream using Tapatalk
wow, to the G1? thats a HUGE downgrade i was on the fence about selling the S4G, going back to my HD2, but i will be patient, HTC has had my business for 8 years now, and i have faith that they will come through, i just gotta stop refreshing XDA and FB/htc
EDIT: lol forgot to post my actual comment keep the phone, its amazing and will only get better with age, the N1 is a prime example of intial headaches turning into pure joy
again though, you be the judge, its all a preference of style and function
Good question, here's my honest take...
I'm in the same position as you, but I have until next Friday to decide. If HTC doesn't come to their senses and fix the bootloader lockout then I'm taking it back. I agree with one of the other posts that it IS a good phone, but the Sense UI is bogging it down and being a super user I want to use my phone's full capabilities! If I do take it back, I will wait to see whether T-Mobile wakes up and adds SGS2 to their line-up and get it with my upgrade or HTC fixes their issue (as stated) and I'll go back and get a new Sensation. Although I'd hate to go back to my Vibrant until then, I think I'd be happier. But in the end it's up to you friend...
i am in the same boat my friend. i have a few days to decide. i was already pissed that the phone had less RAM and a smaller battery than the EVO 3D. Then I found out that the New MyTouch is going to have "the best" camera on a smart phone. Trying to figure out what makes the sensation a true "flagship" phone right now. It is the best phone on t-mo right now in its category, but i re-upped early. HTC limited the specs of the Sensation intentionally. Just don't want to regret my decision in December because i wanted to stop using my laggy hd2 (running Android). decisions, decisions...
I am in similar decision. For one thing, I am not impressed by the speed over my Captivate (1ghz hummingbird-overall phone speed not 4g vs 3g). Second, the wifi seems to disconnect a lot (set to never). I was having all kinds of Force Closes on apps, so I factory defaulted the phone. Seems better now, in that respect. But the wifi issue is irritating and I don't think I am getting enough out of this phone to warrant the ETF on my Captivate.

You nailed it! Loved my HD2, and the Sensation is as good as it's going to get right now.
same boat here. I do not dislike the Sensation, but for some reason I find that I can do all the basics much easier on my rooted Vibrant. If this phone was unlocked I would definitely keep it and let the developers do their thing. I just do not believe HTC will be making a move anytime in the near future. But I do agree, without the SGSII, not much else on the horizon (a 4.5 inch phone is just too big)

[Q] thinkin

ok im thint bad of king about switching to the g2x form my vibe and i was wondering is it really that bad of a phone. i keep reading all of these complaints and im wondering should i make the jump
Don't listen to what other people say. The phone is great, as long as it doesn't shutdown by itself. Screen bleed isn't as bad as people say. It's not noticeable with normal use... Only on a black background with Maximum Brightness, and in a dark room. It's blazing fast. Update baseband makes GPS lock instantly. Screen looks AMAZING. Build quality is really good as well. Don't forget that it runs stock Android... So development on this phone is great. Install any rooted 2.3.3 OTA ROM, or CyanogenMod 7.1 Nightly, and you're good to go.
omg thanks for yur input
As always, test one out in the store if you can. You might get a slightly different experience at home, though.
Just like there's plenty of phones with some problems, there's plenty of working ones as well.

I think this statement says a lot. To say a phone is great when it's not malfunctioning says a lot about the phone. If I were the OP I would not take that as a vote of confidence. That being said, OP don't buy the G2X, it's fine I suppose if you're someone unfortunate to have already purchased it and can't get out of it, but I would hardly suggest jumping on board with it at this juncture. My advice is to just be patient and wait for the Hercules or Nexus Prime. The G2X is an unstable phone that reboots itself and freezes randomly. Why jump onto a sinking ship? There are better options just over the horizon, wait for those.

Neither do I. The only problems I have are a useless FFC, glitchy A2DP, and an uncertain future.
Still... someone who comes here asking for advice and reassurance before purchasing a G2x is well served by strong words of caution. This is the unfortunate truth.
Awesome phone. I've gotten good ones and bad ones... In my experience there were more good then bad..once you get a good one, then in my opinion everything else sucks (that's available now in us.).
Don't listen to others saying no. I sold a vibrant for this and couldn't be happier. Even having gotten a bad few, I still love this device..
Just imagine every g2x line all the good ones.. I think it would be hard to beat.

So the OP will have to buy a phone based on chance...?
Honestly, I've exchanged my phone once already (the only reason my first one went back is because I thought it had a faulty GPS...turns out they all do!) and I really don't want to be bothered calling T-Mobile every two days until I'm on my nth replacement to get one that actually works.
To the OP, honestly I think ever phone will have its own problems so you just gotta look at the forums to see which ones you can live with.
People's biggest complains with this phone is that:
It restarts randomly (FroYo and Gingerbread).
Has a screen bleed (although better in GB).
The GPS doesn't function the way it should (mostly people complaining from a bad lock on, I personally can't get it to stay locked on for an extended period of time, with RunKeeper it looks like I'm a drunk and spiking up to mountains and running over lakes).
EDIT: And the most annoying thing that happens to me since the GB update: slow downs into oblivion. The phone will become unusable at random times for a good 10 minutes, or until a battery pull (because I'm not able to shut it down since it is unresponsive)
Then there are some that don't experience any of this...
I say take everything people say with a grain of salt. Obviously people make rash comments that stem from their emotional instability. That being said. I recently purchased the G2x, after hearing a lot of complaining about it. YOu must realize, one is much more likely to go out of his way to make known a complaint, than a praise. Human nature I suppose.
The G2x I got, 2.3.3 July baseband, is flawless. It is an amazing phone. No restarts, no bleed, instant GPS lock.
Im not stating that there are bad phones out there, and I empathize with those that may have recieved a few, but let the first impressions go, and realize that they are not ALL bad.
Dude this phone is beast I had mind since launch and it works great everyday, u will be very happy, to the people still having trouble with there phones take it back get a new one and if its past the 14 days send it to LG u have a year

I dont see how someone can suggest buying a phone that with a few exchanges you might end up with a good one. That makes no sense. My G1 out the box worked, my Mytouch out the box worked, my Nexus One out the box worked, my mytouch 4g out the box worked, hell my HD2 running Android works better than my G2X, and yes, I have tried several.
Dont get me wrong as I must say WHEN my G2X is running right its balls to the walls fast. I think its probably the fastest Android phone available...as long as I dont need GPS or the phone hasnt shut its self off (if I could be so lucky as to have mine reboot) its not bad, not bad at all. Unfortunately I need my GPS, I am a truck driver and rely on my GPS.
I think honestly its an issue with dual cores right now, I would wait for a bit like others have said and pick up something a bit later. Perhaps even wait for ICS since I believe that will be more optimized for dual and quads.
Its your gamble. If you dont mind possibly sending it back, trying out another one with the clear understanding that its a crap shoot at best if its going to work or not go for it. Me personally? I would not buy it again knowing what I know now and what I have been through with this phone.

I totally agree with this. The people in this thread that are urging the OP to go out and get this phone are not being realistic. Some people don't want to keep swapping phones until they get one that doesn't malfunction. Sure the G2X is a great phone WHEN IT WORKS. The problem is those times when it IS NOT working. For people who are locked into their phone and can't leave this may be tolerable. For people who don't mind having to hack their phone for it to have any semblance of reliability may be tolerable. However, for many people that is unacceptable. I think it's best that the OP at least be made aware of the reality of the situation (the state of the G2X and other phones coming soon) and let him make his decision. My opinion is that it doesn't make sense to jump on board with a phone that may potentially have to swap and swap over and over...a phone that even T-Mobile doesn't really want to offer support for anymore. To me it makes more sense to wait since there are better devices coming out in the near future.
If you're going to leave it stock then you may have issues. If you're planning to mod it and flash alternative roms then you're going to love the phone. The hardware is amazing. LG/T-Mobile's version of the android software is buggy.

What he said is correct, stock form doesn't make the hardware justice. I have a vibrant and got my wife the g2x. The first one we got we returned due to random restarts and signal loss. Second one worked ok but returned and cancelled contract because Costco had it for half the price with accessories included. Now my wife hates me tinkering with her phones which I love to do. But after so much complaints from her about not receiving or able to make calls and phone slowing down I convinced her to let me install a custom rom. I installed eagleblood 1.05 and she hasn't complained once anymore and after setting it up and going back to my vibrant which I also run a custom rom and kernel, made my vibe seem to move slow as a turtle. And the screen just looked so much more vibrant as well. It also felt much more "comfortable" , "sturdy" in my hand than my vibrant. Bottom line is if you are lucky enough to get one that doesn't have hardware problems and you are willing to install custom roms on it, then go for it otherwise I would suggest you stick with your vibrant.

In my opinion, one in 3 or 4 of the original phones are good. I've ended up with one of the good ones after 5 tries.
As Sarni sez', this phone is a beast. Does everything I ask of it. Love the full page internet with Dolphin hd. I sold my Sensation and never looked back.
Now LG.......they just stink period.
But my G2X is awesome, everything works. I'm still on Froyo and rooted, I don't want the update.

I just got it as my first smart phone. I love it, i was originally going to get the S2 but decided on the g2x and i am glad i did. Just root it and run weapon and you should be good.
thx for replys, id b upgrading from an optimus V (virgin mobile) so it will b a much newer phone (not that the ov is a bad phone, just outdated).
I would suggest you pick another phone, my wifes g2x has been freezing, rebooting, not turning on and this is the second one thats been doing it. lG are sposed to be working on an update, but im not holding my breath. There is the glacier which i have and love it, sensation, sgs2, amaze....so much better phones.
XOOM
I myself live this phone ...Yes it had to be replaced one time because the phone itself had a problem staying connected with a server ... But now I've had no major problems whatsoever .. Haven't had any rebooting problems but I might have it freeze here and there, but then I'm always flashing my phone so if it freezes it doesn't bother me... I know someone who has the sensation and have had the chance to really check it out and really don't care for it ... IMHO this phone blows it away... haven't checked out any other new phones so I can't comment on them but I can say I'm happy with this phone ... Especially now that we have CM 2.3.7

[Q] To upgrade or not to upgrade?

Basically, i'm up for an upgrade on my account with AT&T and trying to decide if I want to get the Skyrocket or wait until something better comes out. Currently I have the LG Optimus 3D, or "Thrill 4g" as AT&T likes to call it. Its nice, pretty snappy and has the whole 3D gig which is a novelty at best.. The plan is to pass that one to my wife when I upgrade.
I really just want to hear some negatives about this phone. I've read a lot of reviews and 90% of them are about all the great features that are listed right on the box and thats not what I want to hear about.. I want the problems.. the things you cant get to work, apps that wont run correctly, your pet peeves with this phone. So that I can decide if your pet peeve would also be a deal breaker for myself(or anyone else reading this thread in the same situation).
I come here because I know you all will have poked and prodded the phone so much by now that you know everything there is to know about its REAL pros and cons.. the ones that matter, not "it didn't fit in my pocket" and "i like my iphone better".
Much appreciated in advance!
Other than the actual size of the phone, I haven't had a single problem. And the size doesn't bother me anymore.
Only complaint I have is that bluetooth sometimes disconnects and shuts off, can only be fixed by a reboot. I think this has been fixed in most recent UCLA3 update, but have only been on that version a couple days so too early to say for sure. Otherwise a decent phone.
If you don't need the cutting edge I say upgrade. If you do I'd wait 6 months and there will be something worth upgrading to.

I do like having cutting edge but I haven't heard about anything coming out any time soon that is competing that heavily with the S2 Skyrocket. Not enough to make me wait 6 months for an upgrade, at least..

For me the Note is too big, I'm not interested in a tablet as a phone.. If I were to get a tablet it'd be a separate entity. I need something to have with me in my pocket at work and when out to sea(I'm in the Navy). That's just my preference/situation tho, but thanks for the input!
Overall I haven't had any problems with mine that wasn't rom/software issue. I wish I could give you a few this sucks or that sucks but all and all it a great phone. I'm bad about jumping out off my truck with mine in my lap and still no cracks. Pretty close to unbrickable unless your a real moron, worse thing I can say about it is it's the first phone that I have been throttled every month I've had it (since november 6th) but the ****ing phone has so many radios in it change apn, flash t mobile radio that doesn't let lte come on and waaaaa laaaa keep on downloading. I want to upgrade to the note but I'm afraid it just won't add up. Sure we don't have a real cm, or a mui, but who gives a **** when we get ics and the way google releases new **** we will have had ics so long we are sick of it to just like we are with gingerbread.

Skyrocket is a really good phone, but I can't say it is a great phone. The CPU feels like it is a generation behind. 3D, UI, Xvid Playback all choppy in comparison to phones with Exynos CPUs. Dev support seem to be lacking, but it is slowly improving. LTE on the hand is amazing.
I feel that 3.5 months in, I'm already looking forward to Nov 2013 when my contract is up.
With that said, is there a better phone out there yet? No. If I needed a phone today, I'd still get a Skyrocket or a Note.
Thanks for all the fast feedback everyone! So far a great help. The fact that so many people - not only in the uneducated world but in the developers world - have had little to no complains about the phone speaks wonders. Probably going to head in tomorrow to pick up my own Skyrocket.
Unless you just get one that is made on monday or friday. You know the days lemons are made. You won't be disappointed

Question about 4.3 OTA

I'm looking into getting a Galaxy S3 (Verizon) this weekend from a cell phone repair store. I was reading around on Verizon forums and people are saying that 4.3 update has messed up their phones. Horrible battery life, overheating, app crashes, etc. Just wanted to see if this was still the case. The last post was back in early February.
Thanks.

Some people report problems, other people say the update is fine.
My guess is it's largely device specific or people just didn't let there phones settle in too long after the update before reporting problems. Probably a combination of both. Some phones handle software changes better than others.
The s3 is still a pretty powerful phone. The phone hasn't had any other updates following that update, so I doubt there were any bugs that didn't resolve themselves.

Okay. I currently have an HTC One. However, the screen is cracked(still works fine can't even see it unless you turn the phone a certain way) and it has the camera problem. I contacted HTC and they want to charge me $200 to fix it. I like taking pics with my phone most of the time and I just can't do that with the htc. So I found a deal with the s3 and after reading those posts it got me a little scared.

It doesn't cost that much to fix a screen. I've seen legit ones in malls and they advertise all over the place.
