[Q] How to?? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Ok, I rooted the phone, now I want to get rid of all of the T-Mobile bloatware and cant figure out how to do this. Is there a guide anywhere that a kind soul could direct me to?
I also do not use T-Mobile. I use Simple Mobile. I would like to take out the Access Point for T-Mobile under mobile network settings. Does anyone know how to do this? Any assistance with either will be very much appreciated.
And if it matters, I did flash the ROM to the "leaked gingerbread". If I need to go back to factory can I do that?
Thanks! Mahgninnuc

Use titanium backup from the market, it lets u remove system apps. I think there's a thread of safe apps to remove.
Apn backup/restore app lets u delete apns I think.
Yes, stock nandroid restore will bring u back. Use your own or download it from dev subforum.

Didnt buy the premium version But got the WiFi calling off with another app. Root Uninstaller. WiFi calling was ALWAYS on and I couldn't turn it off. I suspect this was a major reason my battery was draining so fast.
Now to get rid of some of the other bloatware. Thanks again!

You can use any root file explorer to access the /system/app directory and just delete the appropriate apk files.
As always, have a stable nandroid backup handy on your sdcard. You never know when you'll need it.

Got APN off
I found Chee Wee's APN controller in the market and was able to remove the T-Mo APN fully from my phone. Now I don't have my APN switching from Simple Mobile to T-Mo whenever it wants.
Now to find an effective root program to get rid of the rest of the T-Mo junk.
Thanks for all of your assistance folks. I"ll get this mastered yet

cool thx, maybe somebody will look at this and know whats going on, i tried enabling sideloading, changing values in market access from at&t's to tmobile us<fail> then to tmobile au<fail> then to a custom value i think 310120<fail>
i read in another post thet the "unleash the beast" fixes these missing apps. if anyone tries it please post.

and heres the unleash the beast:

I think what JH2 is is a test firmware leaked by Samsung or at&t but still isn't ready and has a quite a few issues yet still not completely fixing GPS so I say just use a different firmware for now. That's what I am going to do at least, JM5 here I come again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Doesn't JM5 come with it's own set of different issues? So far none of the issues I've seen with JH2 seem show stopping (unless you really need that tethering). I haven't personally tested JM5, but people's first comment on JH2 was that it was about equivalent to the latest i9000 ROM, and it has an advatage of being a full Captvate ROM and not being locked out of future OTA updates for us. It's too early to give up on JH2.
I see fandango and att code scanner are visible on the market

Code:
Install Market Access App (V1.0.6) (Can uncensor your market)
Can you tell us what it does with Market Access to allow you to see these apps.

just checked Market Access app its not emulating any provider its set to ATT default 310410.
Also i am not having any issues with JH2 ROM everything flies and way faster and better than JF6 , GPS is still an issue but better than JF6.
I'm on my 6th or 7th reboot and still no luck. Has anyone rooted using one click root, then tried unleash the beast and can confirm they can find these apps in the market? Is it even possible to unleash the beast method, after one click root? Or would I have to one click unroot then unleash the beast?

I am running [STOCK ROM] I897UCJH2 (Captivate) with unleash v.2 and can see all the above except colberts under at&t or tmobile emulation.
Dont know if you need to reflash ROM to reroot using unleash. Did you get a ROM manager backup after you installed [STOCK ROM] I897UCJH2 (Captivate)?
Here is market access apk. i used on original ROM
Wow so AT&T is filtering political viewpoints. Wonder what Colbert would have to say about that.
Shutoff wifi and searched and Colbert Reports The world shows up on stock rom, so likely its a protected app and doesnt recognize this roms fingerprint.

The only way to remove those apps which are locked down by the carrier is to root your phone (whenever that comes out), and use titanium to remove/disable the apps.

Temp root it with visionary (search market) and use this method to disable apps:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/10/15/how-to-disable-system-apps-on-devices-with-nand-protection/
It won't delete the apk but will disable it from running and clogging up resources. They also won't show up anymore in the launcher. I've temp rooted my mytouch 4g just fine using visionary just haven't gotten around to run all the scripts to remove all the bloatware yet.
Install Visionary for temp root, then install Titanium Backup, click problems and say yes to download Busybox. After that click backup/restore and from there you can remove any app PERMANTLY! Hope this helps =)
Don't they just reappear the moment you reboot?

You actually REMOVED the app and it came back? Oh man that's some crazy lockdown.
It's nuts that the phones are locked down now. The only people who will "accidentally" break them are people who know what they're doing (and those who are willing to take a risk). I can't believe HTC/T-Mo when they say this is a preventative measure. Which smart person will boot up the phone while holding the vol down key and wipe their phone? They'll get scared and pull the battery!

If this is really the way it's going to be, then they must have had a business case for taking those measures. These companies are out to make money, not to make toys for the homebrew community.
My guess is that they were getting more returns/exchanges than they were comfortable with. I mean, let's be honest here. How many of us know folks who have returned a bricked device saying "it just stopped working?" I personally know people who have tried rooting/moding phones without the least bit of knowledge of how it all works. I know because I'm the one getting calls to help out...
When that **** happens, TMO ends up in a difficult position. They're not going to call their customers liars, and they can't refuse to exchange the phone.
I wish they would give people an option to "buy" root. You pay $25 for an unlock, and your warranty is immediately and automatically voided. That way, only people who know what they're doing will sign up for it.

Can you confirm that you did a full reboot after this removal method (vs just down to a 'quick' reboot) and that they stayed gone?
Why do you guys want to completely remove something? Why not just disable it? Same effect.... You will never need more space in /system/app since you can't even write to that and if you disable it - it's gone from the launcher and does not hog memory/cpu. And you can re-enable it in case you want to use it again.
Look here for directions (thanks to Paul O'Brien)

I have no idea why it didn't work. I did exactly what the instruction said. Nothing changed, I'm assuming it doesn't work for the myTouch4G.
myTouch4G (Glacier)
Let me clear this up for everyone. What the OP (or 2nd 3rd post?) suggested does not work permanently. I have both a G2 and a myTouch 4G, they have the exact same read-only system memory.
The major difference between the G2 and the myTouch 4G, and why the OP thinks this works, is because the myTouch has fast boot. With this enabled (and it was on mine by default) you can turn "off" the phone and turn it back on without loosing root, or in this case, having apps magically reappear.
However, if you actually REALLY turn OFF the phone, either by disabling fast boot or simply removing your battery, they are going to come right back. The only permanent solution is to disable them, and you can find Paul's post in the G2 forums about how to do that using a terminal with root access.

I've never had an issue. On the iPhone (not jailbroken) you have to call AT&T to activate. On this one, you get an information tag above the activate checkbox saying:

I've been using that on my Captivate for 7 or 8 months now, AT&T has never billed me. I'm not extravagant in my usage. The highest net data I've used is 4.5GB, but that's for both normal and tethered use. I've never been dinged.
I think if it becomes obvious, torrent or otherwise, then they may try to do something. But as far as I know, there is no way to distinguish the traffic of your phone from that of the connected devices.
My suggestion is try it for a small burst of data, note the time. Reboot your phone after. Then check your account online after a day or two and see whats listed under your data use.
You guys should try a custom apn similar to the captivate and atrix.

Ok... I tried this again after I posted the message. Something seems to have changed in my account. Now I get a "Verifying" message and then a note that says tethering is not available. My guess is that we'll have to replace the IP/Stack to not request verification information from AT&T.
So, sorry, no go yet.

in titaniumbackp if you are rooted freeze ir uninstall "tetheringmanager0326.apk" should unlock it. you can also delete it from adb, rootexplorer, other root file managers as long as you mount read write in terminal emulator, or you can use terminal emulator.

The problem I'm having is that I'm not in the States... so calling At&t is not an option for me.
It's weird that they don't have the upgrade for everyone by now.

I did have the same issue as you, im not from the US. I do have my HTC inspire for a week and a half now.
What i did the first days was use the Android central sideload Wonder Machine, that you can find in androidcentral forums. very good app and no need for root.
i did try first z4root, and did not work for me, on temporary or permanent root.
after that a few days ago i use superoneclick root app from here in XDA. Click in Root (that does not root permanently, just temporally) and then click on allow non-market apps. did a phone reboot, and voila no root but still can load non-market apps.
Hope this helps you.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to fix my issue.
I tried the superoneclick method, rooted temporarlily, but the option to Allow Non Market Apps never appeared.
It even failed when it tried to check the SU an FAILED.

Anyone feel like giving this geezer who just upgraded from sgs4 running sacs old school rom, to this beautiful note 5, a few pointers and a quick once over? Looking to root asap. I see my note downloaded the new ota as soon as I got home w it, but I have not installed.
Would appreciate any help. Thanks
Good to be back :good:
Its pretty simple really.
You have several choices.
The easiest is just to install one of the pre-rooted roms:
Galaxy Note 5 OGD/OI6 Stock Deodexed Roms
MOAR Rom v1.1
If you want to JUST root, there is a thread for that too:
[how to] sprint note 5 root instructions n920p
Awesome, thank you! What i really use root for mainly is the WiFi Hotspot, any tips for that, is it still just an apk to install after root?
Lastly, i use root for a free version of Pandora streaming music...again, without an sd card, im in the woods as far aa using jailbroken apps...thanks!! Edit - nevermind, i see Hotspot is out of the box on this, awesome!
Oh....do i want to,take this update or what? Will it make things harder or worse for me down the road?
All of those pre rooted roms have hacked hotspot included btw.
If you take that ota update your phone is nagging you about, you won't be able to odin back to the original build. It won't hurt to take it, but that is the limitation. If you take it, you will need the latest odin tarball/firmware, currently version oi6, should you need to flash back to stock.
If you want to use Samsung pay don't root. If you don't know what it is and don't care to pay with your phone almost everywhere they take credit cards then by all means i recommend rooting asap.
If i had not found Samsung pay by accident i would be on MOAR right now. I was ready to root and ROM when i read a post about a free charger to set up Samsung pay. I had never even heard of it before getting the phone.
Yeah i looked into spay last night after reading a bit...not my cup of tea, doesnt currently use my bank besides amex, so im much rather have hotspot and save myself $30 a month than use my phone as a wallet...for now at least.
So, what about getting my cracked Pandora app on here...any ideas?

I think you can get your Hotspot up and running with just a couple of apn edits as long as you have your msl. No root required.
Yeah, if all you want is hotspot, root is not needed.
Call/chat with Sprint and get your MSL#.
Dial ##2382#
Click 'edit'
click 'apn settings'
Click the 1st apn listed and scroll down to 'apn type'.
Edit that line from 'default, mms' to 'default, mms, dun'
Hit your back button.
Do the next apn in the list.
back out
reboot
Hotspot is active.

Thx kids, it most certainly does work, got my sml on first try through chat, have my hotspot, and an awesome Pandora now...so, why bother rooting the note these days...any takers on that bone I just dropped?

I tried to get my msl from Sprint but they wouldn't give it to me. I bought the phone on the payment plan and they won't give it to you until it's paid off. I've tried twice now and was told no by two reps. Anybody else run into that?
What's going on everyone, just got my Note 5 and am loving it...I was wondering if anyone can help me out here but I'm trying to dial ##2382# on my dialer but nothing happens??? Any ideas?
