[Q] Questions About Phone Choice - HTC Sensation

I am allowed to switch my phone to a phone that has Wi-Fi calling, since where I am living now doesn't have a cell signal. I am allowed to pick any phone I want.
I am choosing between the G2X and the HTC Sensation 4G.
For you sensation guys I have a few questions.
Switching out the rom is very important for me, as I perfer light pure android (why I currently have a Nexus S) though I am about to loose my beautiful SAMOLED screen.
Wi-Fi Calling as well is very important and I would like to make sure I can use this on other roms like CM7 and any of the other roms available.
Now how long do we have to wait for new kernels for the HTC phones, since I am currently only use to the Nexus S, it gets everything very quick as well as kernel updates for AOSP.
But I like the look and feel of both phones, but for me Wifi calling so I can be reached at my new location in the meantime. So do the other ROMs come with this built in, or is an app that is available for me to download and install.
Also how far along has CWM Recovery or other recoveries come along with this phone.

Phone isn't rooted so no ROMS at this time
sent from HTC Sensation

I thought we had roms since there are some listed in the development section. But siince the boot loader is still locked then we can't do a recovery or install new roms you mean?

Nothing for now. And FYI, the G2X constanly reboots for no reason, so that option isn't a good one either (unless they fixed it since I sold mine).

My Nexus S use to have the Random reboot issue, almost daily, now its down to about 1 random reboot a month or less.
I feel like I want the sensation cause of the new cpu (tegra 2 is a bit dated) and the screen is higher resolution. So as soon as we get root and the unlocked bootloader as HTC has promised, then things will change greatly correct?

Oh hell yea things will change!!! Once you can root the Sensation it will be unstoppable! Go with the Sensation for sure. I have had every phone know to man, and this one has topped them all.
This should answer most of your questions about the Sensation:

Enjoy!

As I am thinking about it more and more I it looks like I will be getting a Sensation 4G.
Though I am thinking about how much I will miss my SuperAMOLED Screen, Voodoo Sound, though to me the sound is more important cause I use my phone for music at least 3 hours a day while riding to work and back on my motorcycle.

From Inspire to Atrix back to Inspire :D

I really enjoyed the Inspire but I started to get all crazy reception issues where I couldnt make a call or receive sometimes. Anyone else having these issues? Someone at the att store said alot of ppl are complaining of this.
Yesterday I exchanged for the atrix and it felt a lil bit more snappy, nothing to wow me but I could make calls and receive, no issues at all. My main issue was it would hardly charge on usb from any pc I used, and it would get really hot trying so right there I said, this is going back. In less than 24hrs I was back at the AT&T store to get a new inspire.
I really dont want to have any reception issues, and I almost believe all the flashing roms, radios, kernels, I messed something up along the way. Heck, Im even scared to root now. I want to use the phone totally stock and make sure it works great whereever I am before I root even. I'm also wondering if rooting causes battery to drain quicker.
So I ask all you experienced Android users/developers. Am I right in believing that all the flashing I've done might of messed my reception? Even maybe rooting might have messed something up? If not, is there a way to make a complete backup right now, so I can go right back to this when I do begin to root and what not. I almost feel like the stock rom, when I went back to it and unrooted before I returned the last inspire made no difference. The new Inspire seems to hold a better signal now. So can I back up the current stock rom before I do anything?
Interested to hear what advice this drums up. I went from Atrix (painfully bad PenTile LCD, shamelessly locked down) to Inspire back to my old N1 because I got a few days of no signal and missed calls in the office. I read recently that there's some sort of leaked magical radio that fixes a lot of the issues, so I'm keeping an eye towards the Inspire. $20 at Costco is a worthy use of my contract upgrade.
Yeah, there are other phones coming down the pike. I'm stuck with AT&T and given this is an otherwise solid phone and how awesome HTC tech support has been with my N1 I don't want to go with another mfr. Also Optimus 3D has only 512MB RAM? WTF?
If you have patience, your issues will be ironed out. Inspire ROMs and development is still kind of early.
If you just be patient, GPS...reception....bugs....will all be a thing of the past. Both devices are excellent. HTC build quality and 'openness' is something to envy. Just relax, I think you made a wise choice.
Just out of curiosity, what rom were you running when you started having issues? I'm on stock with root and have yet to have any problems with gps or reception.

nailed my main problems right there (in bold)...
Nice to see you lingering in the inspire forums DG
I purchased the Inspire the day it came out and absolutely loved it. That one had major issues with the screen. It would not register my touch about 80% of the time. So I exchanged that one for another Inspire and the second one had all sorts of problems. Dropped calls, calls no received, no VM notification, random reboots, and of course the always popular, locked phone that required a battery pull.
At that point I just thought the Inspire was not that great of a phone so I exchanged for the Atrix. When the phone arrived I knew two seconds after it booted that I hated the phone. It felt cheap, it was tiny, and Motoblur reminded me too much of TouchWiz - which is a shame because the guts of the phone should have made it a monster but Moto has a long way to go with their Motoblur. Within 2 hours of getting the Atrix I took it back.
So, I am on my third Inspire and so far so good. No missed calls, dropped calls, texts, no reboots, no locks, no problems at all. Right now I am rooted running the stock rom. I have tried a few different roms - RCMiXHD_v5X, LeeDroid_HD v2.2.2, and Android Revolution 4G. I had GPS issues with LeeDroid and Revolution and data problems with RCMiXHD. The phone has performed pretty dang good with root+Stock so I will probably keep it that way. Hopefully a GB version will drop soon because I do like the extra features that brings.
Anyway, thats just my experience.
This thread is getting some good information placed in it, and a good OP as well.
My recommendation is that you follow the hack kit, but stick to ROMs based off of the Stock Inspire ROM for now. As much as I enjoy a UV/OC kernal, I can't say it's making a huge impact in my day-to-day use of this phone. I'm running AR 3.2, without any issues right now on the stock inspire radio, but my next flash will probably be a ROM like ClearDroid.
I also wish we had an easy stock backup procedure, but as far as i know we're stuck with the reflash + s-off combo.
As a side note: Where the heck did DG come from?! It's good to see you popping your head in here. I started with your Super-rooter and lived on Cognition and Perception for my Captivate.

Im not sure which rom was the culprit, I dont want to bad mouth anyones work as it could of just been my doing and I definitely appreciate the hard work and effort the devs put in. But I did experience a few issues trying the revolution rom, I tried different versions. But I also tried several other roms so I cant really pinpoint. I know I like the revolution but would have to leave it because of issues, I kept trying though.
I cant really recall as battery life hasnt been a huge issue for me on the inspire, but for everyone that has rooted their phone, would you say battery life improved or worsened? I'm probably going to root later on tonight.
Oh and why no 'one click' root/unroot scripts for the Inspire yet? Just wondering, because even the atrix had a one click root script.

Yeah I meant more of a legit release not a leaked version. I have tried RCMix and Adroid Revolution and had issues with both. Nothing major but enough for me to go back to stock.
I'm having an oposite dilemma.. I first bought the Atrix and then after i noticed a little lag when unlocking the device i bought the Inspire.. I had the Atrix for 2 weeks and i have had the Inspire for 1 week.
What i have noticed about the Inspire is that when I try to open a .doc file thats only 62kb large, its not nearly as smooth as the Atrix with the scrolling and double tapping to zoom in. I dont know why this is... 62kb is pretty small. When i had the Atrix, it opened the same file super fast and there was no lag at all..
Also, with websites like adultswim and phonedog which has a lot of flash, the Inspire lags quite a bit compared to the Atrix which has little to no lag.
Im very tempted to go back to the Atrix and just live with the little bit of lag when unlocking.. IDK what i should do..

Well good luck in your decision. I dont doubt the Atrix was a tad faster at some things left stock, but that wasnt a main concern for me as I know on the Inspire a rom here a kernel there can remedy that.
I've actually opened .doc and .xls files close to that size on a daily basis with no real lag issue. Then again I'm using Documents To Go, app I used from my Blackberry days. Works pretty smoothly.

Though the Inspire is able the flash roms ....Atrix is by far a better phone. I've played with cousins Inspire, it doesn't compare to my Atrix

I m running the rooted stock rom self-cleaned from the ATT bloat with TiBU in chuck norris mode... No problem with my GPS, no problem with the reception... battery life around one day of pretty intensive use... I notice altough I m not having issues as i mentioned the signal's strength displayed is always pretty low (2/3 on 5)...
I tried ClearDroid but since it was pretty much the same as my 'self-purified' stock i just got back to it...
I don't think the reception's issue was related to the rooting itself... some device is just kinda defective from factory...
In the end it boils down to personal preferences.
I had both and got rid of the Atrix for the Inspire because of screen size and its speedy as is out the box. Don't really see the need for a Dual CoreS unless I'm gonna shell out more cash for the laptop Which I see is pointless since I might as well lug around my Vaio i7. In the end I'm happy with the Inspires build quality and performance.

It depends on your needs/preferences. Specs wise, yes the Atrix might be better but the Atrix does have its issues as well which irked me enough to come back to the Inspire which I liked so much I'm willing to give it a second try. One thing is for sure, I cant see myself getting another Motorola device anytime soon. Been there a few times, and had bad experiences with their locked devices. HTC has been the better experience for me so far and I'm enjoying the Inspire more than I did the Atrix.
Very true about preference...I like the Inspire's size wouldn't want to go bigger. Many hate motor for locking down the BL....but it seems like HTC will be doing the same on future devices

Sensation issues..

Srry for the cheesy title, but it's all i can think of atm.
I'm new to the Android world (Sensation 4G TMOUS being my first phone; owned for about a month) - using it on ROGERS on 2G atm until i can switch to an appropriate AWS carrier.
So anyways, my phone's rooted and has the Android Revolution HD 1.1.7 ROM flashed, but despite this, it's suffering from occasional lag and has some other certain issues such as it will randomly hang and i have to do a hard reset (battery removal) for it to function again... this is getting really frustrating because of how random the issue is. I tried the no-sense script, but that still hangs as well. Could this have to do with the kernels or something? I flashed the right radio for 1.1.7, but am not entirely sure what part the kernel plays and how it affects things.
It also at times when put on standby, fails to power on (rarely but it does occur); as in when i press the power button, the 4 buttons at the bottom light up, but there's nothing on the display... followed by them staying on for a few seconds before turning off again.
Just this morning (for the first time), when i unplugged the phone from the charger, it was burning hot.. and by hot i don't mean warm, but actually uncomfortable to hold - had to do a hard reset for it function again after which it gradually cooled down.
Another thing i wasn't too sure about is "trace". How come i can use trace in the "messages" app, but not in the browser/facebook etc. What's up with that ?
It's really frustrating that i'm stuck with the catastrophe that is lag.. once again (coming from a Nokia N95) and honestly at times i feel really disappointed in the decision i made when choosing a new phone.. it seems. I mean not only does the competition beat us in benchies/day-to-day tasks, but this horrid lag issue is really taking the Sensation right outta the contest.
I've contemplated creating a new thread about this, but wasn't sure because a lot of these issues have been discussed, but i had not heard of this dead-on-standby issue plus the fact that i sorta wanted to rant a little bit and thought instead of flooding the forum with multiple threads, why not make one big one. In any case i apologize if this is frustrating for anyone, but all i'm looking for is some help. Thank you.
It looks like these are the issues with newest ARHD. For speed try InsertCoin 2.3.4 (or RCMIX 2.3.4, they're basically the same). Probably the fastest Sense ROM
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
The problems you have, have been mentioned many times in the ARHD thread. It's a kernel issue. Try flashing another kernel like the unity kernel.
Thing is i'm really contemplating exchanging the phone for another (Galaxy SII preferably), but i'm not sure if this lag issue and other minor hiccups are gonna be a regular occurence or not.
If i'm going to sell it.. i have to sell it now when it has some sort of value in the market and not say in a few months by when perhaps cyanogenmod is already out and the price of the phone has dropped.
What would you guys do ?

You want to exchange the phone because of an issue with CUSTOM Rom/Kernel (except the lag, it also happens on stock). At least try stock/other Rom/kernel before that.

Download the latest ARHD 1.1.8 and many of these issues should be over.

Stock is worse..
@DiZzle.
Yea i'll give that a try. Thanks.
I had similar issues and went back to stock ROM with ADW launcher. I tried various kernels etc. but gave up. 1.1.8 might be better, can't comment on it though. I think that 1.1.8 was going to revert to stock kernel btw. I also used a ROM cleaner to remove a lot of bloatware.
I'm just waiting for CM7 on my Sensation.
Just hang on and follow how fast the custom rom scene is evolving right now.
I guess for kernel issues we gotta wait until there's a proper kernel source available

What has been your experience with rooting your Sensation?

I've reviewed some of the ROM comments and browsed around on the net but can't seem to come to a conclusion on if I should root my device or not. I had a T-mobile G2 before and it was rooted. I loved testing out other roms and finding ones that works best as well as obviously the boosts in speeds.
The Sensation to me feels more complete and aside from some useless apps and the occasional glitchy things that happen with it I'm pretty satisfied overall.
Can anyone provide some positive user experiences with rooting their devices or if some of the roms correct some of the known issues with the Sensation reliable without causing other issues lol?
I'm really up in the air about this and can't decide, what do you guys think?
I rooted my sensation just Cos I did the same to my old x10 mini, I found rooting it was easy following the guide on here and flashing new roms is easy too, all I can suggest is that you read the instructions, try different roms to see which one works for you and don't forget that rooting voids your warranty
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
When flashing custom roms are you losing all installed apps each time and finding you need to restore via titanium? I ask because I've seen threads say you do and don't lose your installed apps and data.

Heyya,
I'm pretty new here and my experience with android devices was 0 up to three weeks ago when i decided to buy the sensation. I then stumbled upon XDA dev forum and now i'm hooked .
I decided to root and flash a custom rom three days after getting the phone... as far as eye candy goes Sense is brilliant but the functionality is 0.
The whole process of installing clockwork, perm rooting and flashing a custom rom took exactly twenty minutes and was no hassle at all.
At the moment i run P3d Neon-No Sense and the phone is a whole lot better. Battery life is double, RAM consumption is 1/2 and overall the performance is great.
So... my advice... root and flash away!
Thanks jeryko that's the kinda thing I was looking to hear. The sensations touch screen is the only reason I'm Leary about voiding the warrenty with rooting. If you unroot the device can they still tell?
I love sense I think it integrates things nicely and visually (with the exception of a few minor things) and gives a way more polished premium feel to devices. However as stated above it does bog down the phone a bit...even with the dual core. HTC really should have added 1gb of ram I think. Overall though my phones not slow just sometimes a little stutter here and there.

ive rooted my sensation, well i at least i did / was rooted before the update came out. to be honest i haven't seen any reason to reroot. i still have a unlocked boot loader but the urge to root and flash roms isnt really there for me yet. this is probably because i am happy with sense 3.0 and the phone doesnt lag for me at all after the latest update. the only real thing that will probably get me to root again is when a good aosp rom releases or CM7. i really miss having then bluetooth capabilities of a stock aosp rom
No problem. Well... the sensation has it's drawbacks but price/quality it's definitely worth the money.
About the warranty issue... can't really tell you... I've read on the forum that you can Switch back to stock rom and kernel and S-ON again but the procedure (for S-ON) is a bit risky and frankly i have no clue if after you go through all that there's any way of telling that the phone has been tampered with... you'll have to ask the older and wiser folks around here for a knowledgeable answer.
Root it, stop delaying the inevitable.

And that's why I don't regret going s-off and flashing custom ROMs. Root just comes with the territory.
Funny thing, I went custom on my Sensation within the first week while I left my wife's stock. Fast forward three weeks later, I was pretty satisfied with the speed and stability on my phone. I pick up my wife's phone and unlock it to surf the net. First thing that happens? Random restart and back to the HTC splash screen. Really?? I'd totally forgotten about the random restarts and choppy home screen scrolling. Ended up s-offing that thing and flashing a custom ROM that same night. She hasn't complained about her phone since.
I'm so tempted....you guys are evil lol Seriously though the only thing holding me back is the warrenty being voided. I didn't care so much with my G2(that thing was the most reliable phone ever) but the sensation is still new and I'm skeptical about how long the hardware will keep up and all. My biggest complaint would be the volume on some things ...everything else works great though except an occasional lack of response until I lock and unlock the phone...which is rare.

The ONLY reason I rooted was to remove the apps I don't want to use. I'm running my own ROM which is a basic version of 1.45.401.2 with all the crap I don't want removed. If it didn't have the **** on the ROM in the first place I probably wouldn't have bothered to root it

Agreed....
I unlocked the bootloader as soon as I could and started loading custom ROMs. I've been running the P3D ROM (Sense version) for a few weeks now, and it's doubled my battery life plus it's faster. My brother has his Sensation still S-ON stock (latest OTA update) and we compared it side by side and we both agreed mine is noticeably faster. I also like the blue neon theme with that ROM.
Even that particular ROM aside, I've had generally better battery life with anything other than the stock ROM. That alone is enough reason to do it IMO.

Ok I know that I am a noob to rooting and installing roms. Currently I am on my second one Android Revolution HD™ 3.0.3. Rooting it was the best thing I've done. i wish I would have gotten the balls to root years ago!
Hi, I know I asked earlier but when you flash a new Rom do you lose all your apps and data? I see many people flashing new roms weekly and daily and am just wondering how you deal with all your apps and data. I can't imagine everyone starting from scratch each time. I know titanium can do a batch restore, is that what everyone does? (Sorry for my noobish behavior in this thread.)

We should have root access out of the box. Too much fun stuff, but impossible to find a ROM perfect for you. Your going to tweak something eventually
just got my sensation 4g still in box..first thing on to do list is "root it and boot it"
currently running HTC HD2 with ndt miui rom...love it but got to have that 4g

Things i should know... :D

Hi Guys.
I have my Sensation coming tomorow, what are the things i should know, from you experiences of this from the moment you get it out the box.
Thanks in advance
Oliver
Common issues include:
Horrid battery life due to phone not properly sleeping (can be fixed by flashing another rom)
Dust underneath the screen
Two different displays, one is cooler and one is warmer.
Phone seemingly to suddenly die, battery goes out and phone refuses to turn on.
Heat, plenty of it when using the phone actively for 15 or 20 minutes.
Now I don't want to scare you, I've never experienced any of these issues aside from the heat thing (which doesn't hurt the phone). But I feel you should be unbiasedly prepared.
Good things:
Speedy, I recommend Android Revolution HD 3.x until ICS is stable.
Sharp display, qHD resolution makes a huge difference.
AOSP and Sense roms available.
Rooting is easy and with any HTC, clockworkmod is permanently installed. No loopholes or exploits just to get to it - unlike my sister's Sidekick 4G or father's DEFY.
Great mobile data speeds
And of course, it's the true first Beats phone if you flash an XE rom (Im looking at you, Verizon and Rezound.)
It's a great phone, and stable ICS is just around the corner.
Hi. I consider buying this phone as well. mattbutsko, thanks for sharing your impressions on the device.
I have to say that sometimes I visit the Sensation thread just to read some news/ information. I remember that some users have complained about the 3.5mm jack (the paint on the edge wears off which creates connectivity issues with the headset). Other users have issues with the responsiveness of the display; the quality of the power button; the quality of the back housing panel (The 'HTC' logo on the back falling off); etc.
IMO the Sensation is a great phone and I am a little surprised of all that user complaints. Currently I have the Wildfire S and I am stunned by the Sense interface and all. At the same time I don't experience any problems with the hardware or the build quality. Still, I feel it's time to move onto the next level and to give my WfS to my girlfriend or my sister (we'll see ) as a present. But I don't want to regret switching my phone afterwards...
So what would you advise me? What do I have to check to be sure as much as possible that I'm not buying a "faulty" unit - when buying the phone? Thanks again!
Cheers, i'll probably wait a couple of weeks before rooting etc to make sure everything is alright with the phone, but after that i would imagine i'll put an ics rom on. i'll see how it goes... Thanks =D
Hi!
I have the XE about a week now and everything is great so far. None of these problems exist, not even the overheating(which I was warned that in the first two charges would be intense) . I'm really happy with it ( but as I said I own it about a week now so ... )
What does annoy me though is the WiFi deathgrip... But I think that's solvable with a case

I got my Sensation about two months ago and I would never change it due to a few "problems" that could occur... Came from a Wildfire, this thing was an issue itself. Sensation is GOLD, compared to that.
Flashed different kind of ROMs, now testing Virtuous Inquisition v1.3.0 Senseless ICS (4.0.1), great ROM so far!
Never had any problems while flashing ROM or Radio/Kernel, rooting, make phone have SuperUser or CID!
best.phone.ever...of course, running ics 4.0.3

I would say to go for it. for all the users that have the major issues, a far greater number don't. This phone's great now, but ICS will make it even better, like, substantially better.
Horrid battery life due to phone not properly sleeping (can be fixed by flashing another rom)

I'm new to Sensation's as well, can someone care to explain this problem? What exactly is the problem with it? Do all default phones come with this problem or does it depend on what ROM is pre-installed on it? And what ROM versions fix it?

This is also my experience so far with my XE, I don't see how a case will help with death grip though.

Well there are three states your phone can be in. Screen on and in use, screen off and in use, and screen off and sleeping. There's a problem that can arise where the phone doesn't go into sleep mode and continues to run "awake". This drains battery quickly. Good news, it doesn't happen to everyone and most roms don't suffer from it (although my stock rom did - Sensation 4G TMO here). Someone tried to say it was a hardware issue some time back but I'm pretty sure that's flat out wrong.
I've only had it for a few Weeks now but I love it. I only had it a week before I rooted it, very easy to do. I was using the stock Tmobile updated rom and everything worked very well. I have it in a case and haven't noticed any dust under the screen, but I also haven't been looking for it. I also haven't noticed the wifi grip issue.
As for rooting and roms, ether are many to choose from, sense 3.0 or 3.5, cm7, and now I've betas. I'd hope within the next few months we will see an official ics released.

We got 2 in the family and we haven't experienced any of the mentioned faults in our phones. I got mine in early June, it's rooted and I run LeeDroid SuperSensational 4.2.1 on it and its really superfast. My husband's got the other one about 3 month ago, it runs stock and that one also works perfectely!
Thanks for all this guys!
But i am now getting rid of my sensation... i know ive only had it under a week.
Anyway the reason for this is tablets... i wanted to get one, but it would mean my phone was more pwerful than my tablet, which to me at least seems odd. so anyway im getting a galaxy not as a compromise between the both.
Thanks for all your help!
Well, can't say as I understand your reasoning, I don't really see how a tablet can replace a phone or vice versa, but glad you're happy with your decision.

Planning to get a Sensation, worth it?

Hello community,
I have an Atrix, and it is quite old now... I want a larger screen
Planning to get a Sensation to replace it, and i have some questions to ask about it:
1. How is the battery life?
Would it get very hot while using?
2. How is the build quality? ie. any chance to be easily broken?
I havd my Atrix repaired several times because of digitizer.
3. Are the current ICS roms stable enough?
And, does unlocking bootloader/flashing a custom rom easy?
How about gaming?
4. Sensation's spec better than Atrix or not?
I mean, for normal web or apps using, 768MB ram is enough?
Thanks for any advices.

Ok so not biased answer it worth it but if you can expand your budget little bit more might aswell get a galaxy nexus however for your question :
#1 : battery life is pure crap on stock battery unless you get an anker otherwise you can get more then 1-2 hours screen on time..
It depends how you use your phone if you game alot alot ot heats up easily but i do normal use sometimes it gets hot but overall it isn't that bad..
#2 : build quality is quite good feels good in the hand it isnt easily breakable but keep in mind if you drop your sensation there is always a chance of cracking the screen...
#3 : yes ics roms are really stable most of the have 90% of the things working there is some small issues such as on aosp roms or cm9 wiping sd card will hard brick your phone otherwise things like camera and so on works...
i cant really answer to this one as my phone was already s-off unlocked bootloader but from the forums it seems quite hard...
Gaming is good if you'd ask me but it still lags a little bit on gta 3
#4 : yes specs are better and ram is plenty enough on sense rom i always have 250mb free and on aosp roms about 340mb free..
But as i said having a anker is a must if your an moderate user !

1. decent/average.. and yea it gets hot.. depends on your kernel setup too
2. there are several hardware defects that affect random people. digitizer, deathgrip, low speaker quality, etc.. mines been fine so i cant really add much to this. pretty solid build though, sort of typical of HTC
3. 90-99.9% stable, still a few things here and there.. not necessarily to do with our phone but with ICS in general. VERY easy to unlock and root and get s-off.. but ive been doing this to htc phones for years so i guess experience counts. gaming is as it should be. some games might not work with certain sense 4.0 or other ICS roms for some. everything works for me though
4. yes. especially if you decide to do the CM/MIUI/AOSP/AOKP route (aka sense-less, lol) youll have more than enough free memory

The bug about it reformatting the NAND and not the SD card has been fixed and is no longer present in the current ASOP or AOKP builds, but to be safe I recommend only using AOSP or AOKP builds from April to current. But the rest of the info you gave is pretty spot on,
Also the current method of S-off for Hboot versions 1.21.0000 and up is Juopunutbear S-off is a little tricky because you have to use the wire trick. But if you follow the guides that are in this forum you should not have to much trouble.

Ok, thanks for informations.
A Sensation in Taiwan now is priced about 280~300USD, just fit my budget.
I'm reading the s-off guide... somewhat complicated than motorola devices, but I think I can make it.
How about the battery life on ICS roms vs. GB roms?
I have a Htc Senseation and ive had heaps of phones, battery life for me..is okish with screen brightness lowered but i would like to get a anker battery,
The ICS Roms are really Good for me i love the Team PKMN with the little tweaks makes it very more..my own
Ive only had about 3 issues, 1 Boot looping..and that was due to my own fault.
2 a Camera issue with a rom but that was due to my own error
3 a couple of random shutdowns from something but again..my own fault.
Basically i have Setcpu , System Tuner , And cputuner running
im 18 and i was able to root it so if you have any experience rooting..you should had NO issues, just post and ask around most people are very helpful to guide you with a how to So Far my fav phone.

On stock GB & battery I was getting 12hrs life with only 1 or 2hr screen time, with ICS (VI ROM) and Anker battery I get between 1 and 2 days life and up to 9hrs screen time.
Everyone's usage is different but there's nothing wrong with the hardware.
The only limitation is the custom ROM scene, most developers bypassed or moved on from the Sensation. Custom ROMs are miles better than stock, but development is pretty static now.
Based on my personal experience, I will not buy a HTC phone again. This is a shame considering I have the Desire as well.
I have been plagued by the following problems:
death grip ( i know most phones experience this at some point, but this is no excuse )
missed calls - even with a full signal strength, my phone would not even ring
reboots at random intervals
HTC do make good phones, but apparently the One X on the Vodafone UK network is also plagued by signal loss.
I love my sensation!
Yes its worth getting! battery life can be worked with I got a long lasting battery it makes a huge difference! Rooting can be difficult depending on your h boot version but I promise its well worth it and very do able. Just follow the guide to s off and rooting. You will do fine. Ice Never had problems with my device and I flash a lot. Mine has proven sturdy and solid. I have no complaints. I really enjoy everything about my device! Ics custom roms have proven to be more stable than stock roms! ice never got a reboot on a custom ROM and ice tried several, even sense 4. I can honestly say I'm still enjoying my device! Thanks to the developers here at xda. If your rooted you make your device rudely your own. if you don't like something just change it. the customization is wonderful! You can create a device thats truely yours with the help of rooting, roms, kernels, and mods! Its always fresh never boreing! I think you will be completely happy. I know I am! Your not stuck with something you don't like because you change and modify it to what you want. I don't understand how anyone can complain about that! You have the ability to change it on the deepest levels. My advice is to try many roms until you find what suits you! Then you can change kernels and mods and really customize your device. Warning its highly addictive lol. bottom line IM still happy after a year. I think you will be also. I must say rooting is a must! Also s off. Then you will be on your way to making your device custom AND TRUELY your own creation! Enjoy every step of the way! I think you will love it! I know I do. Best of luck and have fun!

Your not getting 9h screen on time no matter what post some pics! I the sgs3 which has 2100mah cannot achieve that...
By the way add like 40$ more and you can get the galaxy nexus off the market place here on xda really at that price it doesn't worth it...

Just to chip in here, I'm a complete noob at this stuff but a few days ago I just followed this guide and went from stock ICS to rooted with a custom ROM in only a few hours, and much of that was spent waiting for files to download. I highly recommend you follow it, and if you do, modify step 4b a little bit. Everything Superwipe does can be done by a 4EXT wipe, so replace step 4b with:
Download the custom ROM you want, you don't need Superwipe
Place the zip on your sd card
Reboot into recovery
Perform a full wipe ("wipe | format" --> "format all partitions (except sd card)")
Enable smartflash ("tools" --> "enable 4EXT SmartFlash")
Flash the new ROM ("install from sd card" --> "choose zip from sd card" --> select zip)
And once you're rooted you can repeat this process as many times as you want each time you want to try out a new ROM
HTC sensation is worth every penny. I am inloved with this phone. I have been using one since January. I rooted it and installed a custom ROM on it. The phone fits perfectly with my needs. It is fast enough, nice design, good material quality so, yeah, I reccomend it.
Now, is it possible for me to downgrade 4est recovery from v2.... to v.1 and stuff RC?
The damn speaker is so awesome, I've made a conscious decision not to buy a HTC phone again. Galaxy s 3 or the eagerly awaited Google nexus with jelly bean should be a wise choice.

I would suggest a Nexus instead. Google has decreased $50 off the original price, so that's $350 for an unlocked phone, with superior specs than the Sensation, for pretty much a similar price and priority OTA updates from Google. It'll be getting JB anything now.

"superior specs than the sensation" LOL
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4219&idPhone2=3875
the slight ram increase is not worth anything, the typical end user will find no difference with the CPU and GPU differences, and not many people even care to use the front facing camera or require HD quality..
other than that, its a downgrade to get the nexus.. its not like we wont get a JB version ROM lol devs are always hard at work
also... sense > any other UI including stock
