Getting My GX2 back from LG by friday - T-Mobile LG G2x

I had sent in my G2X for repair to LG due to serious screen bleed. The other one I had and sold only had minimal on the two top corners but the one I sent to LG was probaly one of the worse screen bleeds on a g2x I have seen. They shipped it out yesterday and I should have it by friday. I will let you guys know if they fixed it or if it appears they did nothing at all
Edit: just chatted with LG to find out what repairs were performed on the phone and they couldnt tell me..
Javier: Hello Guest. Welcome to LG Electronics! How may I provide you with excellent service today?
Javier: Hello there, how are you doing today?
Guest: Hi I'm well thanks, and yourself? I have a RA and just checked the status of it online and it states that it has shipped out to me. Can you tell me what repairs or if anything at all was done to the phone? RA A011xxxxxxxx
Javier: I will be happy to look into this for you.
Guest: thanks
Guest: are you still there?
Javier: Yes, please continue to hold.
Javier: Thanks for holding.
Javier: I am really sorry but as much as I did research when the phone is repaired under warranty then there is no details about what was done.
Javier: Your phone was repaired under warranty and shipped back to you.
Javier: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Guest: you cant tell me what repairs were actually done to it?
Guest: So how do I know if it was fixed or if they didnt do anything to it at all and just checked it and sent it back to me?
Javier: The instructions show that it was repaired under warranty and shipped back to you on 06/21/2011 with FedEx tracking number as XXXXXXX
Guest: thanks

WOW really LG?
WOW.. So I sent in my g2x because this one had really bad screen bleeding. The other 2 I had (one mine, one my daughter's) didnt have it nearly as bad as the one.. anyway.. I got it back today. On the repair form it said cause: scratch, action: replaced case (housing)
umm the phone didnt have a single scratch on it(it was brand new!) so they did a repair that didnt need to be done, and my issue still remains. I call them, he gets the repair facility on the line and they tell him screen bleeding is normal with TFT displays. I tell them I have two others and while they have it and it's acceptable, the one I sent them was very severe and protruded to the middle of the screen, not just the corners. Plus if you hold it on an angle you can see a white light bar across the top(which was not present on the other two) He gave me a supervisor who is now trying to get a supervisor from the repair facility to see if there is anything they can do in this case, but she doesnt think there is anything that can be done.. really LG?? really?? First and last LG smartphone I buy..
She couldnt get someone on the line, but left one of the repair managers a "detailed" message. She said once she hears back from them she will call me back. She did say if I have to send it back again that they would send me a prepaid label this time to send it back.

If that dont leave a bad taste in your mouth I dont know what will. Sorry man. I hope your issues get resolved. Man, just a lil more time and the g2x could have beeeen sweet.

Yeah, it sucks. She just called me back though. She spoke to the manager there and told him everything and he agreed that this one does have an issue based on the information and he knows what is causing it and how to fix it (maybe because the white light bar across the top?) And assured her he would personally make sure it was repaired correctly. They sent me a label to send it back to them this time instead of me having to pay which is cool.
They did say a lot of people have been sending them in for backlight bleeding and that people dont understand that for the most part it's normal. So my guess is that if you send it back for backlight bleeding they wont even check it, perform a repair that doesnt need to get done (so they get paid by LG) and send it back.

Sorry to hear about this mess.
I just swapped my 4th unit with Tmo, this one is finally a keeper.

So i didn't get too much out of this but it was something to do since i was pretty bored if you guys wanna read it to get more info on bs reps or something idk or just to kick it..but i started by asking about battery problems and skipped the bs account info n all that so here it is..
_Latreacha M: Have you tried a different battery?
Ali Khan: .. just the one that came with the phone
_Latreacha M: Please remove the battery and inspect it for damage such as:
Missing contacts
Swelling
Other physical problems
Ali Khan: looks fine
Ali Khan: all the gold contacts are there clean
Ali Khan: batterys got no bubbles or anything
_Latreacha M: Also, what color is the square below the metal piece on the phone, and there should be one on the battery, please?
Ali Khan: theyre both white
_Latreacha M: Thanks.
_Latreacha M: Also, can I have the IMEI number, please?
Ali Khan: 012**********
_Latreacha M: Thank you.
_Latreacha M: We can exchange the battery at this time.
Ali Khan: alright thats fine
_Latreacha M: You will be billed a $5 Service Warranty Processing Fee.
Ali Khan: for a battery ?
_Latreacha M: Processing any order.
Ali Khan: well when you guys fix the quality issues for the phones do you guys send everyone who bought the old ones a new one ?
Ali Khan: like without the screen bleed and updates and all that
Ali Khan: like when you guys start selling the phone again
_Latreacha M: We're exchanging the battery. That depends on what they warehouse sends out.
Ali Khan: no im saying if i pay the 5$ right now and get a new battery, and you guys get the phones without the screen bleed and the updates and without issues, i'd be able to get that right ?
_Latreacha M: No, we're exchanging the battery only, you're not exchanging the phone. Yes, it's a new battery.
Ali Khan: do i keep the old battery ?
_Latreacha M: I will provide you more information, once we're done.
_Latreacha M: Can you provide me the shipping address?
Ali Khan: but you're not understanding what im asking.... when you guys get more G2x's in stock they are going to be the ones without the issues and GB on it.. so when you guys get the ones without the screen bleed to sell again (since you won't be selling the same screen bled phone again) would i be able to exchange mine for a good one
_Latreacha M: Again, for an exchange, that depends on what the warehouse send out. For an upgrade, we don't have that information.
Ali Khan: how would it be an upgrade if it's the same phone
Ali Khan: but isn't that why you guys aren't selling it on your website ???
Ali Khan: because of the screen bleed and old software ?
_Latreacha M: Again, we don't know what the warehouse sends out. What they can send out, or what they're going to send out.
Ali Khan: I'm pretty sure you guys tell LG what to send out . .
Ali Khan: because i talked to them and they told me that you guys tell them what to do and they comply with tmobiles contract and do what they say . .
Ali Khan: (i only know this because i tried getting a battery from them first)
_Latreacha M: We have our own warehouse, nothing to do with the manufactures. If you would like to replace this battery, I would need an address.
Ali Khan: but you guys don't have any G2x's in your warehouses...
Ali Khan: atleast that's what Tmobiles been saying right
_Latreacha M: We exchange all phones. So, I would say we do, because I've exchanged that phone. Again, if you want to exchange the battery, provide me with an address.
Ali Khan: ok . .
Ali Khan: but can you tell me if i have to send back the other battery first
Ali Khan: cause if im paying 5 bucks for the battery and i gotta send this one back i can buy one on ebay for like 10 bucks and have two batterys then you know ?
_Latreacha M: Yes, once you provide the address.
Ali Khan: if the problem doesn't get solved or anything
_Latreacha M: I have more information in the form. It's step by step.
Ali Khan: ok well
_Latreacha M: Can I get an address?
Ali Khan: can you just put it on hold for now
_Latreacha M: Yes.
_Latreacha M: Is there anything else we can assist you with today?
Ali Khan: do you know when you are getting more g2x's in
Ali Khan: the ones without the screen bleeds
Ali Khan: and the update ?
_Latreacha M: No.
Ali Khan: i believe it was "summer" right
_Latreacha M: Again, we don't have that information. I'm providing the information that we do or don't have.
Ali Khan: when i bought the phone in may they had the information so how do you guys just loose it
_Latreacha M: The information that was provided in May, was in May. We don't have updates coming along from May to now, just on one phone.
Ali Khan: ... so it was information to make me buy the phone at that time with no intentions of it being true?
_Latreacha M: If you feel that way...that would be the way that you feel. All devices made, not just focused on phones, have their issues. They're electronics. If you feel that it did not live it up what you expected...our jobs are to troubleshoot the issue, if not resolved, then replace. If the issue goes outside of our support, then a customer can contact the maker of that phone. Which in your case is LG.
_Latreacha M: We're just the carrier of the phone, not the manufactures.
cool
cool very nice
The tech guy never went into the battery issue with me because I told them that it was plugged into the charger when I saw the reboots on my phone. One time I got a text and I saw my screen turn on and then it went into a reboot. Another time, I got a text and I saw the screen turn on then off completly and couldn't turn it on until I took the battery out and back in and then press the power button. The tech guy said "oh in that case the battery isn't the issue" and didn't even talk about the battery.
I should get my new replacement phone today. They charged me $20 service fee for replacing my phone (I will dispute this when it gets on my bill). I don't have the Tmobile warranty btw. You have to send in your old phone back within 7 days or they will charge you $400.

Should hold me over til our devs get a hold of official realease. Sorry for the off topic.

The guy just said that $20 was the service fee I had to pay for them to replace the phone. I told him that the phone was still under the LG warranty period and that it was being replaced because of a factory defect and not because of physical or water damage which is what their paid warranty would cover. He really couldn't explain why or what the $20 charge was for.
The guy that said I was being charged $20 was from tech support not a customer service rep. I noticed that they have two levels of phone diagnosis. The customer service rep does the basic diagnosis and the tech support does the more detailed diagnosis. Perhaps he couldn't wave the fee because he wasn't a customer service rep.

now that's just sad... really, it shows the LG quality control team is super slippin' up. If all the phones are from the same batch, they'll just all have the same issue(s).
I have the warranty, and may end up using it once the new/updated G2x comes out. This way I may not have them ***** about replacement or tech support fees.

Ok, first off, when I call T-Mobile. I will keep on hanging up and calling back until I get someone who sounds educated. Second off, if I want a replacement, I always tell them that I have tried numerous batteries with no fix. If I were you, I would keep calling back until I get someone who sounds educated and willing to go out on a limb to help you.

HONESTLY my phones good like i said i was just trying to get whatever info i could just to test the waters .. and i saw some people saying they got free batteries and tmobile let them keep their old ones so i thought two batteries wouldn't hurt but if their charging me and making me send the old one i wouldn't gain anything and loose 5 bucks

Well I called Tmobile and disputed the $20 charge and the customer service rep said she couldn't waive the fee. Its their new policy since two weeks ago according to her. $20 for people without Tmobile's phone warranty and $5 for those with their phone warranty. Anyways, I was transfered to another woman who reduced it to $10.
Well my new phone is working! Havent had a reebot so far but my GPS works in 2 seconds compared to 2+ minutes for my first LG G2x. They shipped me a brand new phone without the battery and back cover. Just put my old phone in the same box with a pre addressed UPS label on it and dropped it off at UPS. I couldn't see the date of manufacture on the back of the phone but the seriel number was the 105PKUU series. My previous phone's seriel number was the 104KPLC series manufactured on 04/09/2011.
I'm finally happy that I have a phone with my GPS working! Stay in tune for the reboots. Hopefully I don't get them with this new phone.
Is there LCD Screen Bleed still visible? Just Wondering...
tmobile phone warranty? i had that stupid 7-8$ a month warranty on my cpntract that i ended up taking off because whenever i called about it they would tell you to go thru the warranty people and not them... so i said **** that and its 8$ less a month of useless service, are they sending you a new phone? why the hell would they charge a fee if theyre sending a phone that they have in stock that someone returned because possibly a problem? the phones they do exchanges with arent even refurbished, heck out of the 4 replacements ive gone through one of them had a screen protector from the previous owner probably!? and the others have some cheap ass tape covering the screen, heck one of the phones they sent me 1/4th of the screen would get discolored if you turned the brightness up to 100% the first phone i got when it came out is the one im trying to get replaced because of overheating while charging... phone will always throw away warnings of overheat within an hour of charge and end up crashing, its still ussable despite the charging problem so ive kept it until they send a decent replacement

The warranty isn't and never has been through Tmobile. It's through Asurion. That'd be like your car getting broken into and called GM instead of Progressive/Geico/Allstate/Whatever.
Also, I really don't agree with this thread. We all know that reps don't know **** so all this accomplished was ruinng someone's hour.

How long did it take LG to repair/replace your phone?

For those who sent your phone to LG directly (Stellar Wireless) for a repair/replace, how long did it take them to get a phone back to you?

It took me about a week for them to repair it once they received it. I sent from NY to Texas Priority US Mail on Monday. They received by Wednesday. They fixed it by the following Wednesday and i received it back by that Saturday three days later. They are pretty speedy.
One thing I would stress though is that you do not want a refurbished phone. I have read somewhere on the internet that if LG sends you a refurbished phone that you cannot update it to Gingerbread for some reason. I cannot confirm that this is true but that's what I've heard.
I am kind of pissed off at them my self. They did send my original phone back to me but they said if worse case they can not fix it, they will send a refurbished one. I told them F no. I paid full price with tax $600 and I expect either my phone or a brand new one if the repair can't be made. I would have purchased a refurb off ebay for half that. They claim that refurb is just as good. I say bullshyt. A refurb is someone else's probem that they finally fixed but couldn't fix at the time of that persons mail in. And besides, if a refurb was the same, then LG or the Tmobile store that I have originally purchased the phone from would have given me a brand new one on the spot. Suck it. Don't accept a refurb. They did not budge though. They said repair or refurb. Good Luck with LG Scum. They did fix the restarting issue, but when I got it back I have a GPS Lock on issue.
Thanks! I sent my phone by Priority Mail last Monday and they got it Wednesday, so I guess I'm looking at getting it back by next weekend.
I sent mine to them on a Thursday they got it that Friday (one state away). Just got it back today (Thursday. There turn around time seemed very quick to me. It has the latest version and baseband on it. It however is not the phone I sent them.
I sent mine off July 22 via FedEx and just got it back today. Oddly enough, the repair ticket enclosed with my phone said they replaced the touch screen and the reason for the repair was a faulty touch button. The actual reason was because the LG Tool erased my baseband after it said I had a successful update so I couldn't use the T-Mo network, only wireless.
Not sure where the faulty Touch button information came from, but I guess it's good I got a new touchscreen if something showed up during their "quality" check. I checked the IMEI and Serial Numbers, and they match my original box, so it's the same phone repaired, not a refurb swap.
It seems to be working ok so far, so I'll know for sure in a few days.
LG employee here- Refurb is kind of a misleading term. I deal directly with Stellar and providing them parts, and when they say refurb, it might as well be a new phone. I mean, they replace a lot of stuff and run it through a gang of tests. Do things slip through the cracks? Absolutely. But, in all honesty, by the time they get done with refurbishing a phone, it is just as good as a new phone. Now, if you go through some further removed 3rd party refurb centers, you will see issues, but Stellar is in the same building as us, so we keep a pretty tight watch over their work.

I was fortunate enough to get mine fixed by the Stellar folks, and what great work they did. I thought I had a pretty decent phone before the fix, but now it is pure fantastic. So far no unexplained reboots or other oddities and I have really been putting it through its paces.
Please pass along my thanks to the "stellar" Stellar Wireless Technology techs.

HELP ME!!!!! Petition against Motorola!!!!! Fix My Phone Motorola!

I have a Motorola Triumph that i bought new from pre-order. Of course we all know most of the problems it had! Well i have one of those and it had the charging problem were you had to wiggle the cable around till it charged or have to not touch it or pick it up while charging, or if you did it would stop charging.
I sent the phone in for repair under my 2 year Motorola warranty.
When they received the phone (9/28/2011 @ 10:05AM) i called and asked how the repair was doing later that day and whoever i talked to said that everything was ok and it will be covered under warranty and that is already being repaired and it would take 5-7 business days to repair. so i waited patiently for it to return which is today (10/5/2011) i opened it up and saw 2 cards one saying pretty much that they are not going to repair it under warranty due to severe physical abuse and misuse, and the other card saying they will give me a 15% discount towards a new Motorola product at there store, but guess what they don't sell the Triumph in the Motorola store on-line, how convenient for them! and to top all of this off they took my PCB out of my old phone and the sticker with all the MEID's and put it in another phone and sent it to me! The one i sent to them had 2 scratches on the screen with no screen protector and no damage to the back of the phone. The one i get back has a huge scratch on the back, the paint around the camera is almost gone and scratched, the MEID sticker is damaged from trying to remove it when they switched it, and the screen has a screen protector with no scratches.
All im wanting from you guys and girls is to help me out and sign a petition (say agree or whatever stating that Motorola should A: Repair my phone for free or B: Replace my phone for free) to get my phone fixed/replaced.
I know there are alot of you out there with the same problem or different ones that Motorola needs to fix, so this is your time to help!!
So after all of that said, please agree or whatever stating that you feel like Motorola should repair or replace my phone for free!!! and I'm not trying to get one over on them you can clearly see by your own personal experiences with the phone that it is not from personal misuse or damage! I thank everyone here on XDA-Developers i've been here for a while and i'm never leaving!!
I didn't know Motorola took back phones like that... you probably should have contacted Virgin Mobile instead.
That much said... get Moto to send your phone back. Your original phone. This has a great amount of wtfness around it, but hopefully if it's the wrong MEID you'll be able to prove it by pointing to the MEID linked to your Virgin Mobile account.

thank you for your response but they already sent it back if you read all the way i recieved a phone that was not mine they took the sticker with the MEID off of mine and put it on another and i am about to update this post so please read what else happend!
***Update***
After writing this i powered on my phone and it skipped the Moto symbol and went directly to the Moto symbol were it has the little swirl around it then goes to the virgin mobile screen and then on to lock screen. but that's not the kicker my screen has black lines through it as if it had water damage and the digitizer doesn't work (meaning when i goto unlock the phone or press the home or back button it doesn't read my touch!! so i called back and talked to a "manager" and they pretty much told me they never opened it and sent it back which is a lie because when i called the day the received it the person said they already started repairing the phone and it was covered under warranty...and she said that i sent the phone in like that! then tried to blame FedEx for swapping it out! You can see where they took my old sticker that has the MEID and put it on the phone i received! please sign this to help me out so this doesn't happen to anyone else!!!!!!!!
That sucks. I don't think it was Fedex at all. I'd like to help you but can you provide the link for the petition or are you still making one? I'll sign it.. I would have been pissed of...

I meant, can you read the device's MEID via the Settings menu? I'm rather ADHD about long paragraphs on the computer but I think I caught that part
If the MEID under the battery doesn't match the MEID stored in the phone, you have a clear case of a mislabeled device. If not, well... bullcrap.
In the mean time, please do post pictures with as much detail as possible, taking care to blur out any personal information.
I had a charging issue too and i had virgin mobile send me a replacement under their one year warranty. they lagged but they did finally send me one. i also them check it to assure me they werent sending me another dud. hope this helps.
dont i have to pay that stupid $5 a month to have the 1 year warranty???

No, you automatically get a 1 year through VMU
really? ok thanks im going to try that!!!!
Going via VM would have been the first thing I would have recommended.
WTF is a digitizer?
It's what goes over the actual LCD screen and picks up your finger presses. It's what allows phones to still pick up your finger presses even when the glass or plastic is cracked.
hmm actually I'm one of the first people who broke the Triumph (You can even see my post) and from first hand experience, I can say that the digitizer will not work at all when the glass screen breaks...
This pisses me off.
I mean hell, if I sent my phone in for repairs, got a whole different heavily f**ked up phone back, and they tried saying that was the phone I sent them, I'd contact a lawyer and ask "What settlement could I get and is it worth the lawyer fees?".
The only proof you need is that the MSID on the VirginMobile account is different then the one on the phone.
i wish they took the MEID sticker off the old phone and stuck it to the piece of crap they sent me as well as changing out the PCB to make everything match!! but no matter VM is sending me a new phone and i will receive it Monday!!! thank you crxmax and idbl_fanatic for sharing this info!!!!

Sent My V10 To LG For Repair; Receive Phone With Ridiculous Amount Of Scratches

To make a long story short my LCD panel started to bleed at the top of my screen. There was no apparent cracks and no signs of impact but my mobile carrier refused to call it a defect and quoted me a repair price of $175, even with the insurance I pay $10 a month for. I filled out a LG repair form, they send me my prepaid label, get an email saying it is a defect and they will repair for free and I'll have my phone back in 4 days. Excellent, until I get my phone in the mail. I will post pictures once my girlfriend gets home and I can use her camera, but holy hell my screen looks like Freddy Krueger tried using it. My screen was flawless when I sent it in, I bought a tempered glass protector minutes after getting the phone so there was no damage prior to sending it in. I could live with a small scuff or something but this is absolutely ridiculous, I'm talking deep, DEEP scratches. I contacted LG and spoke with 2 different representatives just to see if I could get a different answer out of somebody else, but both have told me the only option is to send it back in for repair and they will offer no other compensation. I'm also having doubts that this is my original phone. My girlfriend and I both have a V10 so I put a small white dot behind the battery and that's no longer there, and my left rail had a small scratch on it at the very top and that is no longer there.
Has anybody else had a similar situation with LG? I've already went a week without my phone and I'm not really up for going another week without it, especially not knowing what condition I'll get it back in. I need to access my emails for work. My mobile carrier won't issue me a loaner phone since I'm not getting the repair done through them.

well...my V10 have the bleeding issue in the second screen too, its legible when in a dark envroiment and i dont like that but...guess what?! i dont care about that bleeding issue so much because i know 60% (or more) V10's have the same issue...is LG issue but i dont bother about this!
is a waste of time send it to repair and then they dont take care of your phone and get scratches everywhere and you get a worst phone than you have after sending to repair! belive me, screen issues like this dont deserve that treatment.
I hope you go to repair shop (if you can) and write a coment on the book of the store explaining the things happened to you...it dont do much but LG will know they have to treat better theyr customers phones!

Sorry to confuse, but I'm not referring to the 2nd screen bleeding light, my LCD below the front facing cameras actually starting bleeding liquid.
If you still have original box you can compare imei and serial numbers, this will tell you if it's your phone or not

This does suck indeed. I suggest you try getting hold of one of the higher ups of your carrier there, else if nothing works perhaps you can send a complaint e-mail to LG Korea to hopefully get your matter sorted out.

cracked screen, ugh!

Unfortunately after 3 days use, cracked screen. A fall on the cement with a case on it, but it was too much.
Sad day. Hopefully replacement parts might be available sóon
Same happened to me just now.
I dropped it (with the HTC case on), and the screen cracked.
The drop was about 1 meter :-/
I feel sick now...

Same for me, was out walking the dog and the lead pushed the phone out of my pocket. Landed on the top left corner I think at first glance was fine barely even a mark on the case but when I got home and put the phone down that there was a weird reflection and turned the screen on and saw a crack going a cross from top left to just over the power button.
Have contacted HTC to arrange a repair which is chareable as they seemingly void the warranty when the screen is cracked...better get warranty back on it after they fix it.
I was just about ready to sell my u11 thankfully still got it so using it now altho complete stock sucks lol and had relocked bootloader so no warning screen on boot sigh....
Hmm I contacted HTC (Netherlands), and they told me that it's not under warranty.
I'm going to call again on monday and try again!
The crack on my phone runs from the power button down to the left bottom side.

Warranty don't cover user fault. I mean, if the phone shipped damged than you can get it cover.

I have just got the quote for repair my screen, not the actual quote as they still can't give me a the proper ticket number etc.
The cost for me to ahve the screen replaced is £285 which is almost 50% of what I paid...not bad ehh. Think this will be my last HTC phone have had them for years but losing my phone and then a ridiculous repair cost is not good.

Well that price tag is the same with every other manufacturer. So it's something you would have had to deal with on a Sammy or OP as well... it's nothing ridiculous actually. That's why I took care to get mine insured as soon as it arrived.

Yeah but the best thing is that the phone been in the repair centre since the 13th and still haven't got the actual quote so I can't even pay it and they never got me the UPS return label so I also had to pay for the shipping back to the factory.
Been in touch with the support for every day for well over a week and still not actually got a proper ticket number that I can track and just keep getting a new ticket number that doesn't work plus mixing up the serial number.
So think this will be the last HTC phone for me as my U11 that was faulty when I got it also took weeks to get replaced as they kept saying they where going to try and repair it.

Well that's standard. Spar parts need to be delivered to the partners in the specific regions. Such things always take 4 - 6 weeks after the first devices shipped. Some manufacturers even need 8 to 10 weeks to provide the needed parts and prices.

so any news on spare parts, i allready ordered a new back for my 5 days old u12+ but one day after i ordered it i need allso a new display, it fell from about 30 cm height on the ground and i was shocked thatthe display broke alltough it was in the original case
lousy performance by htc after the tank of a phone htc 10
Can't believe it happened to me. My U12+ fell out of my pocket -- maybe three feet -- and shattered!! I'd been using it in the wild for just four days. Had it in the case that came with the phone. (The case I planned to use is arriving tomorrow.)
I'm horrified. This phone can't be dropped three feet?? It's defective by design.
Now, the aftermatch. I contacted HTC US and they said they wouldn't touch it because I have the Hong Kong variant. I'm supposed to coordinate with HTC Hong Kong. The repair shop up the street said they could fix it for $150 if I was willing to wait two weeks for parts, so I'm trying that.
Insult to injury, I thought I had insurance, but it doesn't kick in because T-Mobile hadn't registered the phone.
Will keep everyone posted about the repair. It would be great if there was a cheaper third-party option.

Good luck on the repair. I would see if a repair shop locally could repair it. I just had a sub par experience with the USA HTC repair department recently. I bricked my phone and decided to send it back to HTC to see if they could revive the phone. After 5 weeks they sent it back to me and it still was not working correctly. I decided to see if I could resolve the issue which I was able to. Thank goodness. I would have hated to send the phone back to HTC for nothing again.

Man! Make me nervous when reading this lol. The warranty on HTC device isn't up to it standard.

I'm sorry if I made you feel uneasy but I figure just wanted to give you a head's up on HTC repair service. I found another thread on this particular topic and it was disappointing to read all the issues customers had with HTC repair (USA).
next time if you have a warranty issue, you can try asking the HTC DACH contact on facebook/twitter... they are actually replying properly and maybe even able to help properly. it's sad to see so many bad things with USA repair as in Europe it's quite good...but also depends on if you are in contact with them per private message or just via e-mail... via private message on facebook it works out much better
Two and half weeks later, the local repair shop tells me they ordered the wrong part (probably for the U12 Life) and worse they are unable to source a U12+ replacement screen anywhere in the world. I can't find a place to buy one either, with the sole exception of an Indian supplier asking more than $300.
Does anyone know where one can buy a replacement screen? Or how much HTC charges for repair? If it's more than $200 I'm giving up on this.

Just happened to me, over the phone they quoted me $2-300, but it could be more or less after sending it in. I asked what is the point of a warranty and they said it's only software issues, and it doesn't cover user damages like cracked screens. Anyways, you and I are sinking in the same boat, with HTC not selling any screens themselves, or providing other alternatives besides their own repair center. Scam company at this point
HTC cracked screen repair update:
1. I sent HTC my U12+ to repair due to a cracked screen.
2. They email me asking for a credit card to charge for the repair ($200). They asked me to call them. They did not provide a phone number.
3. I called and they ultimately said someone will call me back in 24-48 hours to take payment because they can't take payment.
4. When asked how long it will take to repair once they have payment, he said they usually take 3 week from the time they receive the phone.
It's been 7+ weeks since they received the phone.
How do I get in touch with the Indian dude, I'll spend the 300 to look at the screen without cracks. Guess I got lucky if you call it that, everything works and the cracks aren't that bad but it is disconcerting that a screen can't be had anywhere.

A website called "cellspare" sells the screen, but it's $339. I made the resolve to wait two months and see if screens are cheaper.
