[Q] Browser streams mp3 instead of allowing me to save. - Samsung Mesmerize

I'm having this problem and it is very frustrating. When I go to this site:
http://theblogof.rosscbrown.co.uk/2007/02/ctu-ringtone-from-24/
on my phone and try to donwload the first mp3 link, it decides to automagically stream the mp3 and play it.
Instead I want to save the file so i can use it as a ringtone. I have astro file manager and enabled the browser downloads, it doesn't help. I have used Download Crutch, and that didn't work either. At one point I had Winamp installed but all that did was give me a different option to stream the file.
I'm aware I can download the file on my PC and transfer it, but I want to avoid this. When I longpress on the link and save link, it starts to download some random *.bin file instead, which is nothing but a script to download the file.
It used to work fine until I updated to EE19 stock. This is a clean slate, I wanted to start fresh since I had performance issues before. How i change the behavior of mp3's? Seldom do I want to hear them, I'm usually clicking on them so i can save.
Thanks! Very frustrated as I can't seem to find a solution anywhere

If you long press the link does it give you the option to save it?

Try a different browser. xScope, Miren, Maxthon, Dolphin, all are great and have the ability to download media files instead of playing them.

I have tried Stock, Opera, Dolphin, and Firefox. Some open the media file in their own player, but none of them give me the option to save the file. I believe the link is a redirect to a download, so the link itself is to a script that serves the file. I want the behavior to happen when the file is being opened to automatically ask me to save it instead of play it.
The link to download the mp3 is actually pointing to...
http://theblogof.rosscbrown.co.uk/?dl_id=4
So, as you can see it's not a mp3 file, but it results in that after the script points it to that. If I right click and save target as on my PC i get the mp3 file.

So do it on your PC and transfer it to your sd card.

Have you tried changing up the "user agent" settings in any of the browsers?

Tried editing the User Agent setting but it didn't change the behavior. I think opening an MP3 in a browser automatically triggers to stream the file instead of treating it like other files where you have the option to download them.
Need an app that acts as an MP3 file player but instead brings up a dialog to save it to sdcard.
I could have downloaded it on my PC and put it on the SD card (which I did) but the problem remains, if im laying in bed trying to do this, I do not want to get up and go turn my PC on just to download an MP3.
Thanks for all the help... I'll keep digging.

Try resetting the defaults in settings>applications>manage apps. When you open the file it should ask what you wanna use to complete the action. Choose browser and it should start downloading. This was the case with videos on certain sites. May work for this as well. Hope this helps

downloading music
I had the same issue, i downloaded the app called "downlad all files" then when I go to things in the stock browser and click on a file it will ask me to open up in browser and when it does it download the mp3 files automatically.

That is a godsend of an app. I will stand by that one any day of the week.

[Q] Mp3 download

Hi
Is anyone can write simply application to search and download mp3 from ulub<dot>pl search engine?
I suppose it is not very hard. On the page you are writing some title, then it shows you a list of mp3, you choose one of them and click "Pobierz na komputer" to download
Wouldn't it be easier to just go to the site mentioned than to have a dedicated app for it? If you cant go on that site on your phone, trying using dropbox and download the songs you want and sync them up with your phone. Or just download the normal MP3 Downloader form the market, it works quite well.
My Wildfire is quite slow phone so it takes a long time before the site is completly loaded. Dropbox is too complicated. I can't find polish mp3 using downloader from market.
I just thought it would be nice to have application which can download mp3 direct to phone from this site
just download it with your comp and copy it onto your phone?
Here are all the mp3s at ulub.pl
Just click that and refine the search.
btw, ulub is a bandwidth pig.
hey... zeppelin mp3s lol
@zeppelinrox
This is not exactly what I was looking for, but it's OK. It's faster. Thanks a lot
Glad you like that idea and thanks for the thanks.
You can always just put a bookmark on the desktop to run it quick n dirty and use the browser as an mp3 downloading app

[Q] App to download music and videos to SD card?

Ive been looking on the play store for hours now and searching on google for an app that can download music and/or videos to the phone itself. There are plenty on the store, but they all either am not what I'm looking for or dont work. I would want to just be able to download music or any supported media from (preferably) a built in browser, to a location on my phone or sd card that I can specify. Like maybe I want to download a song from mp3skull or some other file sharing site, I want to just be able to download it from there easily. All the ones I have looked at and tried dont work in one way or the other. I really dont want to have to download what I want on my pc and transfer it over to my phone each time i want to put a song or video or some other file on my phone. I have a GS5, btw. I used to be able to do this on my ipod touch, with an app that was something like this. With that app I could just use the built in browser, go to a file sharing site or something of the sort, hold down the link or video/song, and an option to download would come up, then that media would download into the app and I could view/listen to that content from the app... I want something similar to this, but except I can specify where I want the content to download to, like my music folder on my SD Card. Is there anything you recommend? Again, everything I try on the Play Store that is even remotely relevant to what I want doesnt work... even the big apps with 5,000,000 downloads dont want to work right now, and the reviews dont lie when I actually try the apps for myself.
Do I have more options available to achieve my goal if I root? Im planning to root soon anyways.
Any recommendations, advice? Thanks in advnace!

I use TubeMate for downloading music off youtube, its not on the play store - http://tubemate.net/
Not sure if it supports other websites though
Also, you may have tried it already but this app, DownDroid, can help you perhaps - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.castillo.dd&hl=en
Double Twist or 4shared Music
You can Download DoubleTwist or
4shared music from Google Play
UI of double twist is better than 4shared

[Q] upload to youtube?

I am having a terrible time trying to upload some videos to YouTube. I took some videos with my point and shoot camera and using a Otg cable and a card reader transferred the videos to the existing "Movies" directory on the "device storage". I can watch the videos on each tablet, but cannot get them to YouTube. If I use dolphin browser and the YouTube Web page I can get as far as choosing the video in the directory but then dolphin browser crashes just as the upload starts. Chrome and Opera Mini do not even give any sort of option to use the Web page to upload a video. If I use the YouTube app to upload I cannot navigate t the folder that contains the videos I want to upload. This seems completely absurd for it to be this difficult to upload to YouTube. I feel like I must be missing something. When I had a ipod touch it was absurdly easy to upload to YouTube. Any suggestions? There must be a way....
Open the files explorer of your choice (Stock, ES, whatever), select the file > share > Youtube...

I tried that, but nothing happens. It never uploads. I use ES File Explorer. The first time I tried that it looked like YouTube tried to start and didn't, subsequent tries did nothing at all
Astro File Manager worked for 2 videos
I installed Astro File Manager and that worked for two videos by long pressing the file > share > YouTube. Now it either opens the upload window very briefly and then it shuts, or nothing at all. All of these videos are in the Download folder of the device. I have tried moving them to different folders and to the external card. Any more suggestions out there? This is pretty infuriating that it is so hard to UL these videos.
Why can't you just log in to Youtube with a browser then upload the normal way instead of trying the share option?

OP already noted in the original post that he tried using various browsers. If you know from experience that it works on the tablet perhaps you can post a walktrhu?
At the moment the only advice I can give the OP is to verify the version of Youtube installed on the tablet and try again OR try to do the upload using a computer to confirm the issue isn't with the account itself.
I have also found that the ES file manager chokes on trying to upload a video to Youtube. I have been successful using Chrome and logging on to Youtube. Make sure you have enabled javascript and cookies in the Advanced, Site settings in Chrome settings. I use the Chrome 'desktop view'. I absolutely hate the mobile view on this large screen tablet and have not been able to transfer a video in that view yet.
I could not transfer a video from Dropbox to Youtube either.
Dolphin browser does not transfer vids to Youtube for me either.
I have not tried Firefox yet.

Hi, videos are transferred successfully to Youtube through Dolphin on my phone. You can update it to the latest version and check it out, or just consult Dolphin's support team about it by sending an email to [email protected].

[Q] PLEASE HELP! Notification sound and music library are gone!

All of a sudden my sms notification sound doesn't work anymore. I try to look into it, finding out that the file is still in the Notifications folder and evetything, only to discover that in Play Music all my music library is also gone! Simply vanished! Of course, all the files are still on the device, accessible and playable through the file explorer (even with Play Music), but in the library they're nowhere to be found. None of them. Also, when selecting a notification sound in the (default, preinstalled) messaging app, I just don't see the 3 files that I myself have put in the Notifications folder.
I've tried re-copying the files to the device and nothing happens. Play music keeps telling me to copy music on my device via USB ..
I'm running Cyanogen OS 12, all stock, but this happend in medias res, so to speak, I've been using the OS since it finally came out. I've been looking for an in-call sound recorder though the other day and tried a few (none of them working properly), tried different settings in them. Might this have been the cause of my troubles? Also, please someone help me how to sort this out, it's driving me crazy!
Edit: I have now tried to reinstall Play Music and the BS Player, in hope that maybe I will have some drivers reinstalled and everything will turn out right. Well, it didn't.
This afternoon I found out that not only my audio files, but also my pictures and videos are not recognized by any gallery-software. Not the Cyanogen Gallery, nor the Google Photos app. Nor the camera app. I can still see all the files on the device (I have tons of photos) in the File explorer, but not in the designated apps.

Workaround/Solution:
1. Delete instances of .nomedia files in the root of your sd card
2. Go to Music folder-----Create another folder in the Music Folder----Move ur songs into this folder . Now the files would appear in the multimedia player and play just fine.
3. Similarly create another folder under DCIM/Camera and move ur pics into the new folder. They will now appear in the gallery app.
======
The above is at best a workaround and I still dont know why the stock media players and gallery wouldn't recognise files in the stock directories.
I hope some senior dev or enthusiast may like to shed some light on this issue.

Thank you so much for answering! I was almost set that I'd have to re-flash the rom .. which would be rather inconvenient, as it's my exam period and I really don't have much time.
Anyway, I was thinking - Cyanogen OS 12.1 OTA is just about to be rolled out. Maybe if I wait for it to come out, it would fix my base problem? I know it's not a clean flash, but still..

Do you think it would possible to somehow "reset" the existing .nomedia files? Or if I just deleted them, would they be (properly) reset even if I don't move my media files?
Just thinking Also, would you happen to know where I should look for the .nomedia files in my root? I wouldn't want to miss any.
Hi, I am on different phone and came here for searching same problem. Well in particular your problem, as suggested above, deleting .nomedia files will do the trick.
Download es file explorer and search for ".nomedia" and delete all. Then again perform deeper search and delete them.
Sometimes clearing data of media storage also help(settings >apps>all>media storage>force stop>clear data)
What problem I am facing is, the no media files are keep coming upon restarts. Very annoying and doesn't go even after restored to earlier back up...
Anyone who knows solution for this, his help will be greatly appreciated.

Lollipop app cache location

I am trying to download a video that can only be streamed through a specific app.
I believe the video must be downloaded in any form like cache or something, so I am trying to locate it and copy to somewhere else before it gets deleted.
However I cannot find the file I am looking for.
I have searched following folders while playing the video:
/data/data/[app] - could not find anything useful, only few MBs total (the video is 20 minutes long)
/data/media/0/android/data/[app]/cache - only few files, few KBs
/data/app/[app] - nothing but base.apk and lib folder
/sdcard - all folders here are irrelevant to the app
So where else could it be?
Am I wrong from the first place? Can it stream without saving on local device at all?
Thank you in advance.
Yes it will always atreme without saving any data on local device. If video were to be played like that there would never be a saperate option to download them.
i can do any thing except damaging your device. GOD DOES NOT DO THAT

Ah.. right that is kind of disappointing thanks for your reply I guess I would need to record
You can use uc brouser to grab video while playing it. Just tap on the grab option to do so while playing any video

THanks for your reply. However the video I am trying to download can only be accessed by a certain app and it can only be streamed. Downloading through web browser won't work.
Use youtube downloader on pc. Or any video downloader for android. They can fetch those videos not grabbed by uc and other brousers
