So I installed jelly bean when it came out. (Codename Android 3.6.0 at the time of writing, but the problem persists regardless of the specific rom I'm using). I noticed that none of the music players available in the play store can find my music on my sd card. They are all in a folder named mp3, but I even tried renaming it to music - no luck. Also, the only pictures I can see in my gallery are the ones that have been made since the installation of the current rom. Does anyone have an idea how to force the mediascanner to actually scan my media? Damn, I want my media so bad

I have no idea why your music isn't being picked up. That's usually never an issue. Maybe someone else can chime in.
As for the gallery pictures not showing up. Just download Quick Pic from the Play Store. The default Android Gallery has been crying to be put of out of its misery for awhile now. It's terrible and slow. Yes, you can transfer pictures to your device and the gallery will take 5 minutes to eventually display them. Quick Pic is superior and will instantly pick up any pictures you add. No waiting involved.

Thank you for the tip, QuickPic actually solved my gallery issue, what still remains is the music list not showing up in any of the players I have tried... (Winamp, Google Play Music, Apollo, just to name a few)
check if one of the apps in use is the media scanner in a constant state of reboot.
media scanner problems often are caused by malformed jpeg file, the bug usually lies in the Exif information, you can use this tool (http://www.digitalconfidence.com/BatchPurifier.html) to remove Exif information from the file, 95% chance that everything returns to work including music and video because the media scanner is shared and if it hangs on jpeg images then can not catalog other multimedia files.
you will lose data such GPS position but the photo itself will remain intact, many have pointed at Camera360 as one of the sources of these corrupted files and I can confirm that.
I got a similar issue before and is solved by copy all media to a pc, delete the files in the phone, then move them back, see if it can help you

That's an old issue that happened to some when they updated to JB back in July. So, welcome to July.

@madd0g you had better stay off the forums, you are completely useless...
If it's not fixed completely, run a search on your sdcard for files named ".nomedia" and delete them.

Alrighty. Just make sure there are none at the root of the SDcard or in folders where you want pictures to appear. Clockworkmod ROM Manager had a bug back a lil while ago where it put some .nomedia files in wrong folders, making people unable to find their music/picture.

Anybody have the solution? I am able to see pictures in gallery and videos on my MX player but no music?
I deleted nomedia (found one) and got rid of rom manager but still my music files don't show up with all the players. I can go directly to media/music via root explorer and play it though.
Go to your apps, find Media Storage, and then clear data & cache.
Download Rescan Media from the play store and run it. Wait for a bit (5 minutes should be good) and if you check in your music player(s) you should be able to see your music.
database or cache that the media scan builds is gone

I have done that and everything works fine. BUT! after a battery change or charge (plug in USB cable) the database or cache that the media scan builds is gone. Deleted or corrupted by something. Its back to the same state, no music, video, added ringtones or pics show until a rescan. What could be deleting it?
Hi All,
By now you will be knowing YouTube app supports saving videos for Indian Indonesian Filipino countries...
How to view those saved videos through MX player or any custom player?

I don't know how this new offline youtube feature works. But you can always sideload TubeMate.
Actually the download icon lets us to save *allowed* videos for offline viewing from official YouTube app.
Update: This is the path and format of several such chunks of files.

Can anyone create app to convert these files as avi or mp4 please? Or suggest methods.

Can anyone decompile YouTube apk and write the output stream to h263 mp3/avi/mp4? Please see OP for link.

As for as a source -
"1-- Google is using EXO file format to save videos. This is apparently a file format used for system files and while we managed to copy these EXO files onto a computer, it can be apparently played only through the YouTube Android app.
2-- When you request a download for an offline video in the YouTube app, the video is downloaded in chunks. For example, a 3-minute file we downloaded was saved in five parts. It is possible that only the YouTube app for Android can make sense of these chunks and join them together.
3-- We also feel there is real-time encryption going on here. When the video is downloaded, not only it is broken into parts but is also converted to EXO format, compressed and encrypted in real time. This has several benefits, the one obvious benefit is that people can't copy-paste the video and share it indiscriminately. The compression, meanwhile, saves space on the disk. For example, the 3-minute long video that we downloaded actually consumed around 40MB data. But when stored on the phone, the video took only around 25mb space.
4-- When a user plays the video, it is decrypted in real time. It is possible that only YouTube's app can do this decryption.
5- If you share the offline video using Bluetooth, instead of the actual file, a web link to the video is sent to the recipient."
My idea is not to break head in YouTube encryption and decryption.
Will it be possible to use YouTube app itself to decrypt and write the output stream as mp4/avi video using ffmpeg codec?
We would require to decompile YouTube apk. The reason for this question is, YouTube is default app in almost all Android phones. There is good market out there.

It's an android only thing it seems, not a YouTube only thing.
There are other android apps (subscription services) that save the files in exo format & they are all real paranoid about piracy, hence the use of encrypted exo.
If many apps use the file format, then someone might be able to come up with a media player capable of playing those.

I am having a terrible time trying to upload some videos to YouTube. I took some videos with my point and shoot camera and using a Otg cable and a card reader transferred the videos to the existing "Movies" directory on the "device storage". I can watch the videos on each tablet, but cannot get them to YouTube. If I use dolphin browser and the YouTube Web page I can get as far as choosing the video in the directory but then dolphin browser crashes just as the upload starts. Chrome and Opera Mini do not even give any sort of option to use the Web page to upload a video. If I use the YouTube app to upload I cannot navigate t the folder that contains the videos I want to upload. This seems completely absurd for it to be this difficult to upload to YouTube. I feel like I must be missing something. When I had a ipod touch it was absurdly easy to upload to YouTube. Any suggestions? There must be a way....

I tried that, but nothing happens. It never uploads. I use ES File Explorer. The first time I tried that it looked like YouTube tried to start and didn't, subsequent tries did nothing at all
Astro File Manager worked for 2 videos
I installed Astro File Manager and that worked for two videos by long pressing the file > share > YouTube. Now it either opens the upload window very briefly and then it shuts, or nothing at all. All of these videos are in the Download folder of the device. I have tried moving them to different folders and to the external card. Any more suggestions out there? This is pretty infuriating that it is so hard to UL these videos.
Why can't you just log in to Youtube with a browser then upload the normal way instead of trying the share option?

OP already noted in the original post that he tried using various browsers. If you know from experience that it works on the tablet perhaps you can post a walktrhu?
At the moment the only advice I can give the OP is to verify the version of Youtube installed on the tablet and try again OR try to do the upload using a computer to confirm the issue isn't with the account itself.
I have also found that the ES file manager chokes on trying to upload a video to Youtube. I have been successful using Chrome and logging on to Youtube. Make sure you have enabled javascript and cookies in the Advanced, Site settings in Chrome settings. I use the Chrome 'desktop view'. I absolutely hate the mobile view on this large screen tablet and have not been able to transfer a video in that view yet.
I could not transfer a video from Dropbox to Youtube either.
Dolphin browser does not transfer vids to Youtube for me either.
I have not tried Firefox yet.

Hi,
I use MX on a Minix 8HPlus, to play videos on big screen. I use FTPDroid to push and delete videos on the device. Unfortunately there is no option in MX Player to refresh*automatically the folder. The result: MX keep in its memories the previous videos list and try to read files already deleted. Regularly I have errors «*impossible to read this video*» .
Moreover I’ve noted that «*random mode*» is not really random. I have around 90 videos and it seems there is around 10 videos with are played frequently…
1) Could it be possible to add an option in order to refresh automatically the folder every minutes/seconds?
2) Can you tell me if there is an option to "lock" folder that contains videos?I would like MX play videos in specific folders. Currently, MX play them all.
Thanks for your feedback.

I'm not sure that this can be done in a sane way that doesn't also unnecessarily keep the CPU awake.. Also I believe @bleu8888 might be considering a file system event detection feature, that will have MX detect file system events, but I'm not sure if he still thinks this is feasible..
Also, should hit the manual refresh button on the video list as well.

1)Power consumption is not a problem for me because the minix is always connected to 220v. I understand my case is specific… I’ve tried to create an action with Tasker but it not works. Manual action is required.
2) Yes, I’ve tried this method but it’s not efficient at 100%. I have to play DIFFERENT videos each month. In order to do that easily, I’ve created several folders named «*september*» «*october 2015*» «*november*» etc.. In those folders I put videos regularly. If we are in september, I would like MX play only «*september*» videos but actually is not the case.
With your method, that means each month I have to specify which folder to scan but I’m not in office every days…
3) Yes, I’ve meant «*shuffle*». sorry for my english. I’ll will try your method and give a feedback here.

Hi,
quick feedback about your solutions. I've cannot succeed to use this api. I'm really a newbie with this kind of softaware.
I've selected only the videos I l ike to play and it seems that video are played more randomly. However it's an impression. I can't prove this with stats, facts.
I've found an app which can scan and update libraries on Android. I'll test it.
Xposed Media Scanner Optimizer v. 1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-xposed-media-scanner-optimizer-t2942609
Edit 2: After used Media Scanner I can't see a difference. I have the impression that Android system refresh the library (I can see it in the folder in Mx interface) but MX player can't see it: I still have "unable to read this video" even if the video is still not in the folder...
It seems that MX keep in memories the last file scanned and try to read them.
For random mode, its an impression but it play the same file regurlarly...

File update: In fact, MX Player is monitoring directories to make any changes updated immediately. But directory monitoring API is broken on Android 6 and reported to Android team as an Android bug.
Shuffle: Randomness would be improved on latest nightly build (26-Jan build) since random function is changed to one with cryptographic level. Nightly build can be found on https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/translation/test-build
Lock folder: Not supported. I think there might be 3rd party apps having this feature.
Many thanks for your update.
Édit : I'm not using mx on 6.0 but 5.1 or 4.4
I'm using the beta version (Build date: 25-JAN-2016) and I cannot see improvement on random mode. I have around 120 videos (around 4min) and there is one which have been played twice at 15 min interval.
Can you tell me if there is a way to have a list of all files played, a log ? I feel that random is not really efficient. Always the same videos coming back (I have around 150 files)
So, as we all know, the K1 tablet (both versions, I have the newest revision), comes with nVidia ShadowPlay built into for video recording, and when you activate manual recording, the videos are saved to the photo/gallery photo on the main tablet's storage and not to an external SD card. Well, it came to my attention that when I record a video, as in starting and stopping when I'm done, the OSD states "recording saved", I look in all the folders and there is no video saved to the tablet. Am I doing something wrong? Is there no way for me to find out if it actually captures and records a video file or am I screwed?

That doesn't really help though, as I'm trying to locate the files so I can upload them to YouTube, or extract them and keep them on my PC so I don't run out of space as the files with ShadowPlay can get quite large, depending on the settings I use. The other problem is that the files are nowhere to be found on the SD card or internal storage, like, at all. I looked in all the folders, not a single MP4 file has been found, what am I doing wrong? What can I do to ensure that a file is actually written to the internal storage? Is there an actual way I can see where it stores the file? I'm getting kinda desperate here, because no matter how many times the app says "recording saved" it doesn't actually save a bloody thing. I must be doing something wrong.
I don't care about seeing the recordings on my tablet, I only care about being able to extract them from the tablet and uploading the files to YouTube from my PC after I copy them. Of course though, no one seems to ever reply to the threads I make anyway, so chances are, you'll be the only one to reply to them, which means this issue will get me nowhere after I reply.

Just tried that program and worked like a charm, it copied the video file to a folder I made in ES Explorer, thank you so much!
Though I do wonder though, where it's storing the videos beforehand, the file explorer shows a folder but cannot be accessed by normal means, I'm thinking it's hidden, and this thing is rooted, so I don't know lol.
