Hi All,
By now you will be knowing YouTube app supports saving videos for Indian Indonesian Filipino countries...
How to view those saved videos through MX player or any custom player?

I don't know how this new offline youtube feature works. But you can always sideload TubeMate.
Actually the download icon lets us to save *allowed* videos for offline viewing from official YouTube app.
Update: This is the path and format of several such chunks of files.
/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.google.android.youtube/files/offline/Ah3O47RKHOSjynmWiiIEDg/streams/65MUCNr-2Vc.134.1417794297798312.0.1418534732912.v1.exo
Can anyone create app to convert these files as avi or mp4 please? Or suggest methods.

Yes tubemate and utubedownloader apps all works but my question is especially for official app. How to crack it?
Can anyone decompile YouTube apk and write the output stream to h263 mp3/avi/mp4? Please see OP for link.

As for as a source -
"1-- Google is using EXO file format to save videos. This is apparently a file format used for system files and while we managed to copy these EXO files onto a computer, it can be apparently played only through the YouTube Android app.
2-- When you request a download for an offline video in the YouTube app, the video is downloaded in chunks. For example, a 3-minute file we downloaded was saved in five parts. It is possible that only the YouTube app for Android can make sense of these chunks and join them together.
3-- We also feel there is real-time encryption going on here. When the video is downloaded, not only it is broken into parts but is also converted to EXO format, compressed and encrypted in real time. This has several benefits, the one obvious benefit is that people can't copy-paste the video and share it indiscriminately. The compression, meanwhile, saves space on the disk. For example, the 3-minute long video that we downloaded actually consumed around 40MB data. But when stored on the phone, the video took only around 25mb space.
4-- When a user plays the video, it is decrypted in real time. It is possible that only YouTube's app can do this decryption.
5- If you share the offline video using Bluetooth, instead of the actual file, a web link to the video is sent to the recipient."
My idea is not to break head in YouTube encryption and decryption.
Will it be possible to use YouTube app itself to decrypt and write the output stream as mp4/avi video using ffmpeg codec?
We would require to decompile YouTube apk. The reason for this question is, YouTube is default app in almost all Android phones. There is good market out there.

It's an android only thing it seems, not a YouTube only thing.
There are other android apps (subscription services) that save the files in exo format & they are all real paranoid about piracy, hence the use of encrypted exo.
If many apps use the file format, then someone might be able to come up with a media player capable of playing those.

Can anyone please let me know if there is any app to download videos from any site (not just You Tube)?
I want to download videos (generally flash videos) from any website.
I searched on net and market but there are apps that download videos from You Tube but not from any other site.
i dont think thats possible on galaxy 3.. until full flash support is up..
Thanks for the reply rudolf895 but I think flash is only needed to play the videos not to download them. And also, if there are apps that download videos from You Tube, then I dont think there is any problem in coding an app that will support any website (not just You Tube)?
The app should be that: The User just need to enter the url from which you want to download the video and app should do the rest.
Please let me know your thoughs on this.

Use "Save Video plugin for Internet Explorer". It allows you convert videos during downloading. Just select Convert>Devices>Droid before download videos.
Every app I've tried that says that you just share the link with the app, and then it will download the video, fails to do so. When the link is shared, the app then reports that there is no video in the link. I'm at a loss. I don't wanna download on my laptop and trans over to droid device, that defeats the purpose of using the droid device. If i wanted to use the laptop all the time i wouldn't have got a tablet.
Use bytetornado, it's working!
I found this:

It's not free. But it does work about 50% of the time...
I'm sorry. I have to take back my last post. It turns out that web video downloader is no longer available on the play store. Meaning you'll have to get it elsewhere. And even then it still has a very low success rate. I'm currently trying to download and it keeps crashing. I'm disgusted. Why isn't there an android app similar to internet download manager for windows? Something that captures streaming video?

No app worked.
I used opera and adm download manager.
In opera, type about:cache and search for the right file by clicking on preview.
A dialogue box will allow you to open the link with adm.
Start the download with adm.
I had to search a bit for the video file because there are sometimes no extensions and you don't know which site is really hosting the video.
You may consider deleting previous caches in settings to avoid this problem.

Dude if you really have the video URL you can download it in any browser. The content you're after is typically one of several components of a web page; the URL you have is either for the surrounding web page, or perhaps for the swf player (the active element that chromes your video stream and provides limited interactivity with the Flash server).
What you actually need is an app to parse the obfuscated video URL from the page source--and to perform authentication if the video is hosted on an RTMP server. In other words, a YouTube downloader extension is not as easily repurposed as you imagine.
For the (GUI-dependent) majority, just using a downloader that can perform RTMP handshaking is non-trivial. That said, RTMPDump binaries have been compiled for Android--give it a try and let us know how it works out.
Has your phone battery ever died during video recording and you ended up with the unplayable file?
If so, Video Repair is for your!
Video Repair allows easy recovery of corrupted MP4 files recorded with Android devices. At the moment it supports H264, AAC and MPEG4-SP (the last one is rather slow). If other codecs turn out to be popular I’ll implement it as well. If your recording got interrupted and you’re getting "Can't play this video." error message when trying to open the video Video Repair should be able to fix it. All you need is another working video file recorded using the same camera settings which can be used as reference. Video Repair will attempt to automatically pick the reference file.
Video Repair doesn’t support fixing or transoding of videos downloaded from the internet or recorded with other devices.
This app is a work-in-progress.
The UI isn’t polished yet but the main functionality is stable.
I successfully recovered couple video files recorded on different devices (luckily all my devices used H264/AAC codecs). I wanted to release it asap so that I can get your feedback and judge what are the common problems with broken files.
Video Repair is available on Google Play and you can watch the repaired video for free. Sharing or saving requires a small in-app purchase.
Please post your feedback below.
If your video can't be recovered by current version of Video Repair and you're OK with sharing it please email me a broken video and another short video recorded with the same device to [email protected] . I'll do my best to allow fixing of your file in future versions of Video Repair.

Video Repair uses unmodified code of JAAD library licensed under LGPL.

I'm working on this feature right now. So far I managed to recover some short videos but there are still some artifacts which I need to fix.
Please send me some sample videos (two couple seconds long videos is enough) to [email protected] so that I can ensure that your codec is supported in the future updates.

Awesome! I'd appreciate if you could leave a comment on Google Play so that others know that the app is a real thing.
I've a Galaxy S3 and it normally generates mp4 files but left me with a temp_video file. I "fixed" it with your app and on the phone the audio is "OK" I think but the video is maybe 1/2 time? If I play it on my PC with vlc media player, both audio and video are choppy and if I play it with the windows media player it's the same as on my phone - audio is the right speed but the video is maybe 1/2 time or so. Should my phone be supported? I'd send you the file but it's 1.2G or so... I could put it up on an ftp server if you like? PM me?

Yes, Galaxy S3 is supported.
I added some fixes in the latest update (version 0.2.4) which should make a playback consistent on VLC and Android video player.
Unfortunately in the file you sent me the camera crashed in the middle of the recording so there is video only for the first half of the file, the rest is audio only. There is no way to recover more video since is not there Optimistically, the glass is half full tho (half of the file is playable)!

Phone died at the end of recording video and left temp file. I couldn't get your app to recognize it until I renamed it temp_file.mp4. Ran it and it worked on the first minute and a half. The video is 22 minutes long. Any advice?
BTW this is the furthest I have gotten with the video out of almost 10 programs- keep up the good work!
I have 3 .tmp files and I'm using one .mp4 file as a reference. Worked like a charm. If anyone has problems importing the files, make sure they're in .tmp extension. :good: Good project. Keep up the development. You are saving a lot of people's data. Cheers.

The file was not playable when you recorded it and after processing by MP4 Video Repair it's playable but there is a sync issue right?
Is the difference constant through the video or is sync better at the beginning and then getting worse over time?
If the difference is constant the only way to sync it is to use some external (PC) app and synchronize it manually.
Otherwise, if the difference is increasing over time, you may try running the broken file through the latest version of MP4 Video Repair or trying to select different reference file.
A YouTube downloader that can download videos into audio files is not a news anymore. However, most downloaders still need 3rd party converter or extra encoding process to complete the action. To solve this headache, SnapPea makes it’s possible to save YouTube videos directly into MP3 files. Want to know how easy it is?
Here is a comparison with other downloader apps:
TubeMate
Open a video and choose to download format as MP3
It asks you to install MP3 Video Converter
After installing the app, you go back to download your video
Open MP3 Video Converter and select your video
Then MP3 Video Converter converts it into MP3
Videoder
Open a video and choose to download format as MP3
It asks you to download FFMPEG plugin
You installed the plugin, and go back to download the video file
Then the app starts encoding it into MP3
YouTube Downloader
Open a video and choose to download format as MP3
It asks you to install FFmeg plugin
After FFmeg plugin installed, the video starts to download automatically
Once download completed, it will start encoding the video files into MP3
SnapPea
Open a video and choose to download format as MP3
Then it downloads the video into MP3 files directly. That’s it!
HOW TO INSTALL:
Open snappea.com on your mobile phone, and tap “Download” to start.
BEFORE INSTALLATION:
Please click “Settings”, go to “Security” and turn on “Unknown resources” to allow to download apps outside Google Play store and safely ignore the subsequent dialog.
Thanks, OP. I think there's something in the rules about making a version of the advertised app available on XDA too.

Hey guys!! First of all I just want to thank the developer for doing such an amazing work building the best available video player on andoid, and for free. You rock!
I want to know if there could be a chance to take advantage of root access for being able to browse system folders (like “data”) when manually loading subtitles. In my case, the reason I need this feature is because I’m using MX as default player with Popcorn Time and this app, in my device, only works fine if it’s cache folder is setted to internal data folder (by default). So it downloads the video and subs into that folder, but the subtitles needs to be loaded manually on MX and obviously I can’t do it.
If you think there would be any other way to solve this I’d really apreciate the info.
Greetings to all and thanks in advance for the help!! (and sorry about my english...)

Hey @josuearisty!!
Like I wrote in my previous post, the reason I need this is because Popcorn Time, in my device, only works with default cache folder path which is "data/data/pct.droid/cache". It stores video and subs into that folder and while the video is sent automatically to MX with an http server, subs needs to be loaded manually so, if I'm not able to browse that folder I have to download them separately which is really annoing.
Thanks anyway for the info. :good:

Same thing as when I try to browse into that folder while loading subs. Like if the browser doesn't have root access.

MX Player will ask root permissions only when it executes some editing operations (like delete, rename) in sdcard. It will not use it for folder selection activity.

If you add the entire root or data partition, it will impact media scanner's performance. So, It's not suitable for everyone. Only experienced users can make use of it. Better to have it as an optional.
Anyhow I will try to convey your request to the developer.

Thank you so much @ktsamy!! I really only need this function in the browser that's called when loading subtitles as, for the video, Popcorn Time uses a stream which is automatically sent to the player. But I don't know if this needs to be "activated" on media scanner too. I mention it just in case.
Greetings and thanks again for your help!!

If you are streaming from external app, it's better to contact the application developer to use MX Player API to easily stream the subtitle together.
MX Player API documentation is available here

Thanks again for the info @ktsamy! I'll suggest this in PT forum. And just in case they can't do it, I'll wait for this feature.
Greetings!!

@emacrack Would you post logcat log after starting MX activity? MX leaves details on given extras.

Here is the Bug Report generated by the app. I've now downloaded the Popcorn Time source from Git and compiled with some little modifications but I still can't get subtitles to load automatically on MX. I've tried with Uri and direct "subs.srt" file path (wich is stored in mnt/sdcard/Download folder) but no luck. If you have something to recommend please let me know and I'll try.
Thanks!!

@emacrack The log actually does not show anything about playback screen. Please make note that ActivityScreen dumps passed extras.
I am trying to download a video that can only be streamed through a specific app.
I believe the video must be downloaded in any form like cache or something, so I am trying to locate it and copy to somewhere else before it gets deleted.
However I cannot find the file I am looking for.
I have searched following folders while playing the video:
/data/data/[app] - could not find anything useful, only few MBs total (the video is 20 minutes long)
/data/media/0/android/data/[app]/cache - only few files, few KBs
/data/app/[app] - nothing but base.apk and lib folder
/sdcard - all folders here are irrelevant to the app
So where else could it be?
Am I wrong from the first place? Can it stream without saving on local device at all?
Thank you in advance.
Yes it will always atreme without saving any data on local device. If video were to be played like that there would never be a saperate option to download them.
i can do any thing except damaging your device. GOD DOES NOT DO THAT

Ah.. right that is kind of disappointing thanks for your reply I guess I would need to record
You can use uc brouser to grab video while playing it. Just tap on the grab option to do so while playing any video

THanks for your reply. However the video I am trying to download can only be accessed by a certain app and it can only be streamed. Downloading through web browser won't work.
Use youtube downloader on pc. Or any video downloader for android. They can fetch those videos not grabbed by uc and other brousers
