[Q] LG MFG App crashing - HELP!!? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I'm posting this here to see if any one can offer any help.... (The optimus 7 forum is rather quiet and another member posted a similar thread with no replies)
I just got a new unlocked lg e900, and am trying to get my mms working. It is to work on a UK carrier "GiffGaff" who piggyback o2 UK. I got the internet to work, by entering the apn details - fine.
I am having real trouble getting the mms set up to use however - giffgaff dont send the settings. The LG network app in the market place doesnt work and only thinks its o2, and the MFG app keeps crashing when searching for the profiles to use.
So to reiterate - the one "solution" - using MFG keeps crashing when i am in the engineering menu and click on "set network profiles". It just takes me straight back to the call history page when it is just about to display the results.
Does anyone know of a work around for this or equivalent? I would really appreciate any help or advice on it. The phone isn't yet update to nodo either - will this solve anything? e.g stop it crashing?

HTC Touch Cruise & new phone operator

Hi
I have an HTC Touch Cruise that I bought over the Internet. It has worked perfectly with the phone operator that I have been with for the last 5 years.
I changed my phone operator: Changed the SIM card . I see the name of the new company on the screen (top left). I can use the phone, but cannot send SMS's. On the Connections Tab in the Settings I accessed the Connection Setup and the name of the original opertor still appears. In the Comm manager I went into the Phone Settings and on the Services Tab I pressed "Get Settings" for all the services. On the Network Tab the Current network is that of the new operator. I pressed on FIND Network button and the SET Network buttons and it seems that the current network is that of the new one, yet a message appears "Connection Setup. The operator does not exist on the database. Please contact your operator for connection settings. Connection setup will redirect you to the Connections screen". This message has appeared from the moment I changed the SIM card. The new operator does not not know how to help me. Can someone point me in the right direction? What does it mean that the "operator does not exit in the database"? How can I make it appear on the database?
Thanks
Brian
I suggest you state your current operator and country. Maybe someone can share the settings you should key in. Another option is too google something like: youroperatorname internet or gprs settings (that's how I did it for my wife last month). I remember there is a specific thread here at xda dealing only with these kind of settings. Another option is to look for the lastest version of htconfiguration tool in case it is already there (maybe you use an "old" rom). Good luck
Hi Cruiserrr
Thanks for your quick response. The operator is Orange and the country is Israel. I'll Google what you suggested. I'm using the original ROM.Can you remember the thread?Where do I find if there is a new version of the htconfiguration tool and how will it help my situation? And how would I use it/
Thanks
Brian
I typed in google "gprs settings orange israel" and had lots of links. eg here at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=218329. Maybe the first one does not work since the link maybe old. Try a few posts and you should be up and running in a few minutes.
htcconfiguration tool ??? I think I invented myself the name. I am referring to the same app you mentioned connectionsetup (htc made)-
this is the part of the forum where you should look for gprs settings http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=262
Cruiserrr
Thanks for the info. I'll check out your leads in the morning and I'll let you know how it went.
Once again, Thanks
Brian

[Q] Telus HTC Surround - Unlocked, MMS & CID not working!

Hey Guys
Really hoping someone could help me out here as I LOVE this phone and do NOT want to return it.....I unlocked an HTC Surround yesterday and was able to pop in my Rogers SIM and start using the phone. However, off the Bat it would not browse. I had to configure rogers APN (rogers-core-appl1.apn) initially. This allowed me to browse ofcourse. Suddenly I noticed I was unable to send MMS or receive them.
However - eventually MY MMS's will get to the receiption although I will get a failed alert, I on the other hand will NOT get any MMS's from senders. All calls are coming in as UNKNOWN CALLER.
I had Rogers do a network refresh on my SIM yet nothing has helped. I also installed the HTC App which updates the correct Carrier Profile settings, yet NOTHING hass worked
These are my only 2 grips with the phone, MMS and CID. Other small quircks (such as wrong time stamp) I can live with...
If any experts have ANY advice - I thank you in advance.
Regards
MMS will not work on unlocked wp7 devices because it's mms settings are confirgured for the locked carrier. There is no setting in the wp7 atm that will let a user change the mms settings. Hopefully microsoft will fix this issue in the next update.

Thanks for the prompt follow up!
Just an FYI - its half working with the HTC App - I can send, but not receive. Why would MS cripple such a needed setting?!
Any idea as to whats blocking my CID?

Ensure your have CLIP (calling line identity presentation) provisioned on your account (In the HLR). I would assume this is what was checked when you called, but it might be worth checking 100%
I once had mine drop off for seemingly no cause. This resulted in every call coming in as 'Unknown Caller'
If this has happened to you, swapping phones would show the same issue.
refer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID
(CLIP can go by other names)
I'm interested to know the cause of this, if you can post when its fixed.
hmm caller id should work regardless of which network the phone is being used on. CID is all dependent on the network provider you are using.
as for mms setting, I think it's not crippled, ms just didn't have enough time to implement this feature prob.

Well I just popped the same SIM into my Desire Z which is also unlocked and CID is working..
I can live without MMS but to not have CID work will be an issue.
Do any of you suspect removing it and adding it will help?
This most likely is a silly q but with the Carriers is there a difference with iPhone CID and non iPhone CID?

Only 1 setting.
removing and re-adding will have no effect if its working in another handset.
Your phone is getting the 'info', but not displaying it.
Perhaps a hard reset is in order?
-- you can confirm a handset fault by placing in the original SIM and testing CID again
I've done a full restore through settings 3 times, is there another method?

toss the original sim back in it.
If it works its possibly due to the provider (i dont see how tho), or you were correct and its in some way linked (again, i dont know how this would be the case)
If it doesnt work, then something is wrong with the handset.
Im not sure if the hard reset from the menu is the same as resetting via holding down the volume keys (or whatever you do, method is in the FAQ thread stuck to the top of the forums)
Is the menu just wiping your personal data? or refreshing the OS Install?
How did you unlock it?
I'm in Canada as well...I wouldn't mind paying full ticket on a samsung focus and bringing it to Bell(wife can get a good plan with work), or a Dell Venue Pro or HD7 and go with Wind....

I have a colleague at work who also purchased the same phone and has not been able to get call display to work after unlocking it either. He is having the exact same issues - I do not suspect its a defective handset.
Over on the MSN forums - apparently it's caused by ADC which is disabled by default by Telus and it's locking to Telus's config, even if forced. Unfortunately, I need to get into the admin app but the method they provided is not for the HTC Surround

Did you pay to unlock it?
Check out a fix here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com...7/thread/7834506f-c60d-4eb6-b04a-9829131922ee
MFG is a hidden admin app on the phone. Here are the steps -- !!! use at your own risk !!!:
Go to the phone app
Dial ##634# and click Send
When prompted for a password type 277634#*#
You should now be at "Factory Menu"
Choose "Engineer Menu"
Choose "Other Setting"
Verify that "Set ADC" is set to Enable
From the "Other Setting" page, choose "Set network profile"
You should now be on the "Set network profile" page and in the bottom half of the window you should see a list of *.xml files. These appear to be the network configuration files.
Look at the filenames for the config files and take your best guess at which one to choose for your provider. I'm on AT&T and I fixed the MMS problem by choosing "_PROV_ATT_US_310_410.xml"
After you choose that *.xml profile, your MMS should be working.

you should be able to. i don't see why they would have an issue with this. most OEMs just reflash and refurb it.
Same CID issue here on Fido in canada.
Phone was sucessfully unlocked, data is working fine after APN configuration (don't care for or use MMS anymore)
But CID not working, is a biggie! Phone is going back as fast as it was purchased!
Sounds like it's a network issue. Rogers/Fido have problems but Bell (according to another post on XDA) did not. Bell and Telus have the same network.

let me know if Telus gave you any issues in returning the phone unlocked.
I will test bell and TELUS SIM cards if I can before returning the phone.
I will report back shortly.

I was able to return it without ANY issues.
Also - the MFG hack is not applicable to the HTC's apparently, it's only good for the LG's. I tried this already before returning it.

[Q] MMS on windows phone--Need help

Hi Everyone,
I have searched online, contacted T-Mobile, HTC and can't find what i need.
Using T-Mobile HD7 on Wind Network (Canada), everything works fine except MMS, i need to add second APN and information for Wind, but seems T-Mobile left that part of the phone locked, there's no way to add second APN or modify it. Since wind uses different settings for Internet-MMS i have no way of getting MMS to work. Searching online i found many asking the same questions, even phones on different networks. Seems T-mobile not alone.
At this point considering all options, including loading Mango from different carrier if necessary, question is-- Do any of you have Mango installed that gives option adding second APN? Any other alternative you may know to get MMS to work?
Thanks
You could make a provxml that modifies the registry manually if your on mango.. Ot if your on nodo and unlocked you can installer the registry editor and modify them yourself. Its not a tmobile thing its wp7 in general. I'm on simple mobile. They have those settings in HTC connection setup but not for wind I just checked.
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express
Thanks for the reply.
That's what i was afraid, by the sounds of it HTC is no hurry to update the App to support Wind or Mobilicity. I guess i have to revert back to 7004 (i'm on 7392) and try the registry hack. Do you know if the registry changes stays after updating the phone back to NoDo-7392? Mango? From what i got from another thread, as long as i don't run HTC connection tool, i should be ok, right? I know many questions, only now starting searching on options to hack the phone, see you did great work on updating to Mango-- Thanks
Try this. Basically this tells the phone to re-get the mms settings from your provider. It worked for me on AT&T.

[Q] How to fix MMS on Samsung Omnia 7

Hello everybody,
I've been looking for days on how to fix this, but I can't find anything working to me.
Everytime I try to send an MMS on my phone it says "Can't send message Try again"
I tried to set the right carrier using Network Profile application by Samsung and I also tried to run ADC using Samsung Tools but with no luck.
I'm currently running Mango, but I had the same issue on NoDo too.
I had the same issue with another carrier (TIM)
I'm italian and my current carrier is WIND.
Thank you
I have the same problem...hope someone can help us.

Strange APN [email protected]

Hi all
As a T-mobile UK customer I have been finding that I lose internet on my phone every 6 or 7 days, typically lasting for about 6 hours.
During my last converstaion with support I mentioned that i had the following in the APN settings
[email protected]
They seem to think that it might be a Tmobile USA profile and hence the problem (how the wrong APN could work for 95% of the time is beyond me).
I did take the handset to the USA last year but did not have data roaming turned on. Does anyone know how i ended up with the wrong APN? A quick google search returns no results for the APN listed...
I have since manually changed the APN and things seem ok (for now).

Whoops.... I have just found out where the the APN settings came from.
In an attempt to get my MMS working I just ran the HTC Connection Manager. For the first time in 1.5 years my MMS is working but I have noticed that my new APN settings say [email protected]
So it seems that HTC use APNs that T-mobile UK are not familiar with? Annoyingly I have no way of viewing the new APN or editing it
Does anyone know which settings the HTC connection manager uses? I am concerned that although MMS is working, if my internet connection goes down again, the UK helpdesk might just shrug their shoulders and pass the buck to HTC, who in turn will pass it back
Ok so I spoke to HTC UK today, they told that they have no way of finding out what APN their app uses, they suggested that I use the generic T-mobile APN that they have on their system, which I did and the MMS stopped working again.... so I ran their app and alll is fine again (for now).
I guess that I will have to try to email HTC. It is rather annoying that MS decided that customers shouldn't be allowed to see existing APNs.
I do have a dev account, tbh I only subscribed so that I could get mango early, if that means that I can sideload something that will show me the APN in use then please feel free to point me in the right direction.
Cheers
