Why is the G2x still out of stock on T-Mobile.com? - T-Mobile LG G2x

It's time for T-Mobile and LG to come clean on why the G2x is still “temporarily” out of stock on T-Mobile’s website.
We first heard from readers on May 20th that the G2x was pulled from T-Mobile.com, though existing customers were still able to upgrade to the device. We ran our original story on May 25th with a rumor that the G2x may have been pulled for quality control issues, issues several of you reported experiencing, lending some plausibility to the rumor.
T-Mobile quickly caught wind of our and other stories on the G2x, and quickly attempted, via Twitter, to squash those rumors with an official statement, which was confirmed to Android and Me by a T-Mobile insider.
The T-Mobile G2x with Google has been a highly popular device with both customers and employees since its launch last month, and high demand has resulted in inventory constraints, which we are working with LG to address.

It’s been nearly a full month since the G2x was initially taken down from Tmobile.com, leading us to believe our initial reports that the G2x was pulled for reasons other than a stock shortage. Could it really take LG this long to manufacture enough devices to replenish T-Mobile’s supply?
The Rumors
We’ve reached out to numerous T-Mobile and LG insiders for comment, and have received three different potential reasons for why the G2x is still unavailable:
The reason the G2x is out of stock is simply a supply issue.
T-Mobile is unwilling to put the G2x back on the market until LG is able to push out an update to resolve the various quality issues that have plagued the G2x since launch.
T-Mobile is unwilling to put the G2x back on the market until LG has completed the expected Gingerbread update.
One Android Insider’s Take on the Rumors
At this point, it’s been almost a month since the G2x was taken off the market, leaving it highly unlikely that it is truly out of stock. I don’t think we’ve ever seen a supply shortage take this long to be resolved.
Similarly, if the G2x was pulled because T-Mobile is waiting for LG to put the finishing touches on the Gingerbread update, this would be the first time a carrier has pulled a phone off the market until it received an Android OS version update.
This leaves us with the most plausible of the rumors; that the G2x was pulled for quality control issues, which we suggested back at the end of May. In our book, this is the most likely of the given rumors, though without official word from T-Mo or LG, it’s anybody’s guess at this point.
Final Word
T-Mobile and LG have been way too quiet on this issue for our liking, and Android and Me feels it’s time for them to come clean as to why this device was pulled in the first place. I think the community will be much more willing to accept the move if they would just come clean rather than continue to harp on about supply shortages.
What say you, readers? Why do you think the G2x was pulled? Should LG and T-Mobile come clean on this?

yea i agree bro, but bad effin move on their part for real......and the g2x might be gone from tmobiles website but its in every store i seen tmobile corp stores, there kiosks in the mall , walmart,....maybe they didnt run out yet??? idk

Something else to think about, there's been no supply constraints with the O2X and its the same phone with different software.

I went to a big TMO store here in Los Angeles today and they had no G2x's in stock and said they didn't have an ETA on new ones.

LG should have just offered one universal software version. It's tough enough troubleshooting one let alone two different setups.

ANDROID 2.2 Supposedly this Wednesday!

First Off, OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!
Take this with a grain of salt but I just got off of the phone with AT&T after calling in about not being able to send MMS messages with my phone since I have had it.
They said it has been an Ongoing problem and Samsung has been working on the issue and that Samsung would be releasing a fix this Wednesday (Not Today Wednesday).
Note that I was actually talking to the real tech support people at AT&T(I was transfered to them)
I asked the lady if it was going to be an OTA update and if it was going to be Android 2.2 and she put me on hold to go ask her supervisor and he said He believes that the fix is going to be released with/through the Android 2.2 update...
Needless to say, I was a very giddy customer on the phone and I am going to be an extremely satisfied customer if this is true.
These were the actual tech support people I was talking to so it should be true right?
I just thought I would share this with everyone.
This would be good news.
From what i heard, and this is only a rumor, that sept 23 is froyo for non US devices.
I hope you're right!!
It would be kind of silly for other countries to be receiving the Android updates before we do. Google, an American based and located company.
Am I the only one who thinks that?

Nope. The galaxy s came out months before the us and google has nothing to do with the captivate except just providing the source code for samsung...
Sent from my fonez so excuze the speling erors
hehe your really going to trust AT&T on that promise lol that funny
Sorry. I don't believe a att Rep.
Well I am in agreement here that the ATT rep is probably incorrect. Working as a vzw customer service rep we get no indication as to when updates will be pushed to phones and also our tech support people don't even know.
ahhh i can believe it and it would be great because im looking forward to flash 10

Oh my gosh, I have no idea why I was thinking google worked with the phones lol. Opps.
But I guess Samsung is working on a fix and what better way to release it than through Froyo =]
I've heard rumors as well but not from any great sources. A majority of the AT&T representatives that I've dealt with are very ill-informed about anything android related.
While talking to a VZW rep he mentioned something about the Fascinate being better than the Captivate because it does have the newest version of android.. 1. No it doesn't 2. The Fascinate has a flash, that must mean it's more powerful >.>
Take anything you hear from a carrier with a lot of salt. The best way to figure out when 2.2 will be available is to watch over firmware websites. A new 2.2 I9000 firmware was just posted and leads me to believe that it is going to be released soon. The AT&T branded official firmware will be a bit farther off.

Unfortunately, it's a South Korean company that makes our phone.
WOW! Another "I talked to an AT&T rep and they told me something great" thread. Because this must be the one AT&T tech person that has the inside scoop.
Sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but if we took all the threads that contained a statement "X is coming on day Y because an [carrier name here] rep told me so and they know because they are [insert highest level possible here]" and then we did an analysis to see which ones turned out to be true - I bet the percentage would hover around 0 - I would go out on a limb and say the percentage actually is 0.
Since we haven't even seen a leaked 2.2 captivate ROM, this is more then a longshot.
Samsung still has to create and test the Firmware and then AT&T has to test it. It will be a while.

Since I keep reading a lot speculation about this around here, maybe I can shed some light into the typical process a device goes through when it is built and updated.
The carrier commits to ordering x number of units from the OEM with options to buy more at a certain price. In exchange for the minimum order commitment, the OEM promises to make customizations to the build of the device (industrial design, firmware and installed software) for the carrier. The OEM will also commit to a certain number of updates, fixes or patches contractually. And in this case, Google as the OS supplier will support and work very closely with both AT&T and even more so with Samsung. However, all the coding and build work is done by the OEM. Testing is done first by the OEM who puts out interim builds as defects get addressed. Release candidates are then sent to the carrier who will do their own testing mostly to make sure the devices play nicely with their network.

I'm putting the Froyo update up there with Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, and The Tooth Fairy...
I've been with At&t for ten years. Not because they've treated me so well, but because they are the only game in the country. No one else goes to the trouble; that makes At&t something special. In the city you have choices; here we have At&T...
I waited specifically for a Samsung android phone because I like Samsung and as a linux user I am committed to open source. Yeah, I would like to get a froyo update, and soon, but I like this hand-held as is. So, I'll wait for a while, and if At&t still doesn't come through, then I'll avail myself of the offerings here and get it by whatever means necessary. It's not so long yet that there is no hope of At&t doing what is right...

Not saying that at all. But if there is to be a Froyo release for the Captivate, it will already be part of the deal AT&T has with Samsung.
Since Froyo was GA before the Captivate was even in stores, I think AT&T would almost have to plan for the upgrade. And I think Google will have put some pressure on AT&T to provide the upgrade since it helps to reduce OS version fragmentation which is very much in Google's interest. So my guess is, WE WILL see a Froyo build for our Captivate. The question is when.

LG sending out software update to fix g2x

LG is sending out a maintance upgrade for the g2x to correct all the software glitches that have been causing rebooting etc. this update will hit middle of may..SO, everyone hold tight, LG G2x will reign supreme, no need to replace
Do you have an official link, post, pic, or proof? I prefer to build my hopes on company made promises.
Is this based off the stock 2.2 rom?
Why not just fix the 2.3 leak and release that
i went to tmobile store today amd multiple store managers at different stores comfirmed that LG contacted them and said a maintnance update is coming out within a couple weeks, to fix all the devices.....I believe this to be true based on probability 3 different managers from 3 different stores told me this, when i was trying to exchange the device.....i got it exchanged and my manufacturing date is 4 /26/11, anyone else have one made that late
LG is retarded. I was calling them because of a headphone compatibility issue and they guy didn't know what the g2x or the p999 was. This was a rep in LG's mobile accessories department. I told him I was embarrassed for him.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I was at a local store just yesterday after work asking about the camera issue, and there was no mention of it. I've made multiple calls to t-mobile customer service line and same deal there.
Any details on the fix, what issues it will resolve etc? My camera basically takes pictures/videos but the screen goes DARK and you can't exactly 'preview' anything. Same deal with any other camera app from the appmarket or barcode scanner apps as well.
Store mentioned other customers have reported the same thing, but no resolution yet...
the weird thing was i had to go to multiple stores because almost everyone was out, but not saying anything to any manager, the one said LG sent them a message that a maintnance update was scheduled for g2x in midmay to fix rebooting, freezing, and all other glitches. So i went to another store, and i said NOTHING about it, and then to my suprise, the manager there said, dont worry we just got notice that a maintnance update is coming out midmay as an ota update to fix g2x. Then i called another store, and the lady manager there said yes i heard that too... at that point, i was so happy, because folks, i didnt say anything, so how did all of them know.......
Weird.... I have absolutely no issues with my g2x, and honestly I am not going to do any upgrades unless it the official gb release. My only gripe is the BS battery drain issue, which I wish people would stop making excuses for.

If they operate like any of the companies I've worked at, the managers probably go to monthly or quarterly regional meetings. I'm excited about the update though. Thanks for the tip for sure. Hopefully our devs can roll this into their ROMs fairly easily. I can't wait to see what future OTA updates can do!
there is a report about an lg o2x update online. i've seen nothing about the g2x so far. hopefully these reps are not mistaken.

Yes Thats my date and I have very minimal screen bleed and only one reboot so far and the phone works great. Yeah, I don't understand the RAM concern either. Seems to be a small obsession with this guy; he started another tread whining about how "handicapped " the phone is because it has so "little" RAM. I really think he just doesn't understand how Android allocates memory...
My G2x was fine no reboots or freezing. Then I flashed Eagles Blood and I was getting frustrated with the keyboard lag so I reverted back to stock from my nandroid back up and now I have had one reboot, it has frozen when coming off the charger twice now. Kinda wish I would have never flashed a custom rom.... I am hoping this is legit and everything gets patched and is ready to rock again!

UK Version
Hey everyone, thought I'd register to chime in.
The UK version of this phone was released with its own LG skin so it makes sense that LG would release a patch to correct their own custom made skin (the problems that people seem to be having in the UK are reported to be much much worse then the G2x).
Don't expect the same patch to be released for the G2x because there is no LG skin on it. The patch for the G2x should be an android update.

Even though the G2x is not running LG's interface, I'm pretty sure LG still has a hand in the updates. Just like T-Mobile will also have a hand in the updates.

LG confirms update is coming for G2X, stops reboots/freezes - also Gingerbread...

Probably the single most informative thread I've read about this phone ever.
http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards...-issues-where-is-our-update-in-the-us-for-g2x
Look at the responses from the LG Pro guy and the Moderator. They outright confirm there's an update that fixes the issue - one guy already has it on his phone and it's stable. Then the other guy says Gingerbread build is almost done so they were going to wait to release update and bundle with Gingerbread. All in all, it's a total clusterf*ck BUT...BUT at least they are giving information. Most companies wouldn't have said anything.
Now that I know this, I am more willing to deal with any reboots/issues - let's hope we don't wait long. The post says maybe 2 weeks.
My local T-Mobile reps say the software update is supposed to come out end of summer...
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I wouldnt fully trust what they say on those forums. If they do roll out a fix soon, it probably wont include gingerbread. Gingerbread will probably be rolled out closer to mid summer according to my sources. I guess that LGs and Tmobiles meaning of soon doesnt mean anything. I just try to keep my mind off of this issue but but its difficult to do that when the phone freezes and reboots. LCD bleed I can handle.

Let's be frank, the T-Mobile reps are unknowledgeable at best and flat out misleading at worst. I want to preface this by saying I've had absolutely no problems with my G2X and it's from early March. This includes no battery-drain issues (battery lasts around 20 hours with moderate use, which is fine with me), no GPS issues, no random freezes or reboots, and only minor light bleeding that doesn't bother me. I love this phone.
That being said, at least half of the people that bought this phone are having issues. If it's really going to be the end of Summer, T-Mobile really screwed the pooch here—and it is T-Mobile's fault, not LG's. Let me state this again, if you're pissed off at the G2X, complain to T-Mobile. The above thread outlines very clearly that LG knows there's an issue, has fixed the issue, and is being held from releasing said fix by T-Mobile trying to strategize a release date.
It's really obnoxious that people complain about LG being to blame for everything, when very likely T-Mobile rushed them into releasing a phone before they could iron all of the software bugs out just so they could claim to be the first carrier with a dual-core phone and is now holding up the release of very critical fixes.
That being said, if you're having issues with your G2X, instead of coming to xda-developers and complaining about it, hop on Twitter and let T-Mobile know you're pissed. Don't just threaten to bring the phone back: link to the LG thread and demand to know why they're preventing LG from releasing the patch. Even if you hate the phone and intend on returning it, there is clearly an issue with T-Mobile delaying the release of updates the phone manufacturers have ready and it's something they need to be told is unacceptable.
I've posted on T-mobile's Twitter about how the fix is available, but T-mobile refuses to release the patch. Lets spread the word and Hammer their twitter page with that information.

T-mobile rep here
you have a great point, it was most likely T-Mobile (NOT the reps) that rushed the release of it but does not mean LG isnt completely innocent either. So please if you do want to vent/complain about the phone do so by contacting "T-mobile" directly and not taking it out on the reps. As far as labeling the reps "unknowledgeable at best and flat out misleading at worst" does not go for ALL reps. I know im not the typical rep but i started out with smartphones a few years back with the Cingular 8525, flashing roms for a couple years now, I follow all the tech blogs and majoring in Electronics Engineering, currently in my senior year. In other words, I know my stuff. t-mobile tries their best to train us on most subjects but of course we are not Cellular phone engineers at the end of the day. Last time i checked my tittle was RETAIL SALES associates. so if you need help with buying the phone and some info/differences about the phone, that is why we are here. We dont have a direct communication line with the manufactures, so i dont know why people expect us to have all the answers. not trying to bash anyone just thought the reps should have a small voice in the matter

Would you believe it.... I turned my Nexus One on to get it ready to sell it...and I just got and installed the ota for Gingerbread 2.3.4 LOL now if only for my G2x.....
I think both Tmobile and LG are at fault for releasing a really buggy phone; hardware and software. Also, the only phones you can count on for getting updated are the Nexus phones. However, im happy with my G2x and coming from the more stable G2, i still enjoy using my G2x more. I have faith that several of the software issues will get fixed eventually. If not, give the cyanogen folks some time and im sure they will cook up a stable rom before the official gingerbread arrives.
You all say blame tmo for pushing lg, but lg released the O2x and it also has the same basic issues right and that was released prior to the G2x.

The biggest problem no one has pointed out....
This is basically confirmed to be a hardware/software issue, and it does basically affect all G2X phones one way or another. So how on earth are these issues never brought up in "professional" reviews. So this brings two disturbing facts. Tmo/LG cherry picked working phones for the reviewers and packed the failing phones in boxes for customers, or the reviewers were shills or they were lazy turned on the phone, saw it was basically a super-powered Nexus-ish phone, ran a couple Tegra games and just went by the specs for the review and never actually tested the phone. No matter what the case, it's disturbing. I'm on my 3rd g2x, and miss the stability of my Nexus One (I still have it, but really want the G2X to run at LEAST as well as my Nexus One.
Hell when I got this I was hoping to have a smooth experience with Live Wallpapers, but it was just slightly less "jerky" then on the Nexus One...I was sad...
This is the most stable phone I've had and I've had many...
No reboot issues here, and I've had 3 different ones.. Phone never freezes, slows, reboots, lags etc....
Sorry you all are having bad experiences, but every phone forum has complaints and people claiming the phone is plagued with bugs..
Well, not me and I have had it since release....
I'm calling user error lol j/k but damn if yall just had my 3 different ones you would be in love..

Lol.. Dont cry.... Scratched one, dust in other, new one.great.. all three great in the non freezing and rebooting department...
I didn't have a single lock-up until I went to a 2.3.3 ROM. And now I'm getting them... Sooo, I could just go back to stock and fix it.. but I don't want to to. I'd rather post another post about how my phone locks up.

I had reboots and was forced to do a factory reset 5 times until I started to flash nightlies. Now I get no reboots at all, though the battery issue is still unresolved...and I can't use wifi.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul, it appears.
I would have to say that my unit has been amazing. I traded my nexus s for this current unit and I have flashed TW B2 rom before then and after no freezing, reboots, and it has light LDC bleed. The LCD thing dose not bother me and I can only expect the best for this device!

TMO just did the unthinkable with my G2X

I want to tell you guys so bad but I have to wait 3 days. I don't want to **** up anything by a mass exodus of people calling T-Mobile and requesting the same thing. Stay tuned to this thread and be prepared to have your mind blown. Some of you will not believe it and I will think of a way to show proof over the next few days.
Aren't you one of those people who posts in every thread how you have no issues with your G2X? Also T-Mobile doesn't your username on a forum. Just saying you can post whatever you want

Damnit, why tell us if your not going to tell us!
I'll start the assumptions!
They sent you a broke G2x with a post-it note saying "ahahah".
They put out a finished version of Stock Gingerbread onto the phone.
They gave you 2 tickets to Disney on Ice in the box.
...I'm hoping it's Disney tickets...

You got a 12th replacement G2x and this time, it had no screen bleed?
They're giving you a G2X with AT&T's bands unlocked and transferring your account to them thinking not having to support the G2X anymore works out cheaper in the long run.
Um they sending you another G2X? I called a few days ago and my phone will arrive this coming Tues. Called tech support once and had them walk me though the remove battery then insert back in, press volume down while pressing the power button "factory reset". A few hours later I was still getting a reboot so I called back and they are sending me a new one. WTH they are charging me $20 for a replacement fee? Will dispute that when it appears on my bill.
They are aware of the reboots, power off, and gps issues. At the same time, they know some G2X phones have no problemss at all.
OK, I just thought to myself that I'm not going to **** up my deal T-Mobile gave me due to my account having extenuating circumstances. Here goes....
On June 11th I called T-Mobile and told them I was on my 4th G2X and was having problems with it since I wanted to exchange it for a Sensation. The rep I talked to in customer retention told me there was no comparable devices to the G2X at the time but told me about a phone named the Sensation coming out on the 15th and that it would be a comparable exchange. He continued to notate my account and told me to call back after the 15th for the exchange. In between that time I went out and bought one with the intentions of seeing which phone I liked better before I exchanged my G2X. I decided I like the Sensation better so I gave it to my wife. Turns out she likes the Sensation better as well so when I called T-Mobile yesterday the person I talked to said there was no possible way for her to do the exchange but she did in fact see the notations on my account. She told me she would send an email to the guy who notated my account with "Exchange G2X for Sensation" and have him call me today. He never called so I just called T-Mobile and spoke with someone else. After explaining them the entire story he put me on hold for 10 minutes so he could speak with his supervisor. He came back and said something I wasn't expecting. He told me when I called on the 11th I was still within my buyers remorse period but the original representative I talked to failed to do the return and told me to wait until the 15th . I am now outside of my buyers remorse period so T-Mobile is eating the cost and sending me the Sensation. I asked the representative if I should return the G2X with all of it's accessories in it's original box and at this point he said the unthinkable. Nope, don't bother sending it back. There's really nothing we can do with it since the manufacturer wont take it back since it's past the 30 day period. So now I have 2 Sensations and one G2X. I am still trying to comprehend just how awesome T-Mobiles customer service is.
.....So no Disney tickets?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Awesome deal for you, but customer service in my opinion is still so ****ty !
Shoot, I was hoping for something more exciting. T-Mobile customer service is so hit and miss. Some times retentions would tell you to go F- yourself while the brand new level one CSR would make huge concessions without even being pushed. It's terrific it worked out for you. Now put the G2X back together and sell it on eBay.
i'm pretty upset nothing's going on with the g2x and everyone's moving to the sensation, thought this phone would be used by so many

A lot of people left even before the Sensation. And since it's no longer being sold by T-Mobile there aren't as many new users. What happens next depends on how well the GB update goes and the marketing support T-Mobile puts behind it (vs. the Sensation) once it's re-introduced. Also the Hercules is supposed to be out in the Fall so there will be another dual-core option with good dev support. It's still not too late for the G2X to recover from its rocky start. People have very little short-term memory.

ICS future for the Atrix 2 gloomy?

Talked with a Motorola rep via support webchat who said that they "don't know" if an update for ICS will come to this phone. This is highly disappointing. Does anybody have any other information? I am considering returning it if they back out on it (as I am still within the return period). Maybe AT&T has a better answer?

Unfortunately no AT&T does not have a better answer, actually it is worse. I got the "We are working very hard to have ICS ready for all phones that have the capability, and we don't have any dates to reveal for any phones upgrade to ICS". I then also got the "We have 4 phones getting ready to be released in the next 60 days that will have ICS already on them".
I also asked around at corporate, and I can not get any of the people I work with there to give my any information at all on ICS one way or the other, for any phone.
Don't worry though ports are on the way, I know that both lfaber06 and I will be working to get a real port of it over ASAP. In fact he has a true pre-alpha version already posted this morning.

Major bummer, considering this phone is only about 2 months old. Either way, I love the phone and I'm keeping it for as long as its functional!

If you think this phone is too plasticy...then your best bet would be an HTC phone. I think the Atrix 2 is very solid feeling.

Ok lets see if I have this straight
You want to return the Atrix 2 when they don't even have the ICS update for the Motorola Razor yet and it's guaranteed? Me, I'm waiting for the Atrix 2 and here is why.
Google states that phones that run 2.3 can run ICS and it's up to the manufacturer to push the upgrades out. What manufacturer is going to push the hardest to get their handsets running ICS
Motorola/Google hands down

Not so fast there.... you are forgetting AT&T is the carrier, and they HAVE to do the actual ROM build, MOTO will give them all of the needed firmware and drivers and such, but it is AT&T who actually does the final build and approval for the releases, what we get off the MOT dev sites, actually is a joint effort from both Moto and AT&T.
I have direct information that if the Atrix 2 gets an ICS build, and IF is the word here, it will not be right away.
Why? You will most likely ask. It is becuase they (Moto and AT&T) are more interested in "Selling" you another more expensive phone, with ICS already on it. Both MOTO and AT&T don't get anything by releasing a new version of the OS to your phone. Just because a Phone can run it, does not mean that they will make it happen. Don't wait for something that might or might not come. If that is the attitude then go get a phone that already has ICS on it, you will be much happier.
I have information that IF, this comes out it will be after June most likely, April or may possibly. This last sentence is unofficial information, the official info I got from my client is posted in the second post here.

I agree completely on the time frame. However unlike other releases this one is different for Google. They will press extremely hard and bend over backwards to help update every phone in the field they can. The why is extremely easy
This ICS build will allow Google to build for their tablet platform AND the phone platform. The more phones they convert the larger the base to attract developers. This is the first shot they have had to have a single operating system. If they update every phone that can run ICS in about a year most phones current in the lineup and still in the field will be running ICS. Most tablets will be running ICS. As for the carriers they will leap on board since Google is going to be doing the work for them. The more phones on one platform the easier it will be to support. It's truly a win/win

If Atrix 2 does get ICS, it will be a very long time before that happens, Motorola hasnt even released an update to 2.3 to fix all the damn bugs on the phone. Atrix 2 is the red headed step child.
Red-heads rock ... FYI ...
assuming the carpet matches the drapes
off-topic apologies... back to maintaining positive ICS thoughts...
From what I have read..it would seem that perhaps manufacturers and the "almighty goog" are fighting over device disk space with their proprietary interface bloatware and OS upgrades as well...hence the perpetual speak of "fragmentation" as well... too many differences and no commonality. To someone else's point, hopefully ICS can bring a closer point of unification.

Interesting point well taken, but I'd have to as you this
Assuming you are the CEO of a carrier and you are presented with two paths and only have the time to pursue one course of action.
A) Put your programmers on fixing the current system and take them off upgrading as many phones as possible to ICS, even though the bugs with the phone are minor and don't impede actually using it as a phone.
B) Concentrate on moving forward with one platform so you can decrease support costs overall and get a big fat bonus

Long time or not, as long as it comes before my contract renewal date, I'll be happy
Considering this phone came out about two months ago, I will go ahead and assume that most of us just renewed our at&t contracts to get it... I will also assume that most of us have about two years before we can renew our phones so basically, there's no rush guys lol

The biggest problem I see is that Google is in the process of buying Motorola. The issue is that during such buyouts, there are a lot of movement of people who work there. Usually a lot of instability, layoffs and/or management changes happen during this period. The end result will be that the Atrix 2 will be caught in the shuffle and so I don’t have know if ICS will ever come to this device. Motorola doesn’t even seem to care to address the many bugs as it is with this phone, much less care about ICS.

It all depends on LOE. If the LOE is less than the cost to implement with newer handsets, then it will happen. If the LOE is more than the cost to implement ICS with all new phones, then it will not happen. Look AT&T has 4 different versions of the Iphone that all can run 5 different versions of IOS, and there is not a way to FORCE anyone on an older Iphone to upgrade, becuase there was not OTA until IOS 5.
Support is not a big issue for the carriers, because they really don't support the devices the manufactures do.
You need think way higher than just google and android in this equation and the fact that AT&T still has to support ANY handset (on their network) that has been sold through AT&T or Cingular since 3g rolled out. There are guys at corporate AT&T that still carry the first HTC Tytn phone (the first 3g phone on cingular / AT&T), because it was a beast for the time, and since it is still 3g, and works, AT&T has to provide support for it. Now are there updates from AT&T or HTC, no, but that is why this community is here. Those guys are all running some form of windows mobile 6 on it, so is it the latest, no, does it do the job, yes.
Again ICS might or might not come (at this point the LOE says no, most likely not), I can't spell it out for you any clearer than that or I will no longer have my current customer. I have way more information than I am letting on, that I can not release at this time.
Motorola has issued very few statements about devices that will be on the upgrade path to ICS and the ones that were stated are on Verizen and they havnt even been given a specific date as to when to expect the update.
AT&T has a very good record at getting updated to their devices and doing it in a timely manner compared to the other carriers. Look at the phones on Verizen and tell me how many are up to date and running Gingerbread 2.3.5 or higher, very few. Heck their famed Thunderbolt is still trying to get the Gingerbread update going. The OG Atrix recieved the Gingerbread update before 90% of all other phones had.
Im not confirming nor denying that we will get it but we have a very good chance considering AT&T's track record even though they are being tight lipped about things and I personally think we will. But hey I have been proven to be wrong also
So if Jim says May - mid summer I say that is acceptible in my books. Has anyone seen a PROVEN date as to the other devices yet? NO. We all just have to be patient and see how the events play out. Hope everyone has a good day!

That is exactly what I have been trying to get across, Thanks! I also want to note that the carriers are not the ones that really care about which OS a phone is on or if it is up to date, just that it does not harm their network.
AT&T is really trying to get phones updated as soon as they can, if it is a feasible LOE. And they do have a good track record of doing so.
