@SamFirmware just announced that they would have Captivate 2.3.3 available tomorrow. via twitter Keep your eyes here http://www.samfirmware.com/
Update: dont forget to hit the thanks button.
All Captivate firmwares are available on this page: http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-samsungusa.htm

Use Heimdall to flash the firmware. You can get Heimdall from this page: http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Note: the Open Source community supports Open Source software. There are instructions on using Odin3 on SamFirmware. True Blue XDA users use Heimdall.
This would be sweet. Thanks for the post.
It would seem that things are about to get interesting then. Thanks.
We never post fake stuff
Are you kidding me? If this is true, Samsung will have redeemed themselves in my eyes.
I dont think its always samsungs fault for lack of firmware updates. The international version sees constant firmware updates. From what I can tell in most cases its the carriers that drag their feet for the galaxy s variant updates.
Definitely great news though!

finally an official 2.3.3
Which version though? Remember, the Armani and Rogers versions got Froyo well before AT&T.
EDIT: I should have looked, the post clearly states i897. Woo-Hoo!
So, how does one go about installing a ROM from Samfirmware? I looked at the guides section on their site, but clicking on USA phones brings up a blank page.
Any chance they will release a 2.3.3 version for Armani so we can get a GB Andromeda build? Are these firmware minus all the AT$T bloatware?

They're working on putting the USA site together so thats most likely why its blank. Personally I'm probably just going to wait for a dev to put their own rom based off this up or at least instructions on what to do.
Yeah, I'm in no hurry to update since A3 has been running just AWESOME for me for months. I also have some concern about these firmwares. The site got sued by Samsung and had to change their name, so what connection do they have for getting genuine source firmwares? I'll let the "early adopters" do the beta testing on this.

Heimdall......
SamFirmware site is legitimate. I have no problem using whatever they published. They get their firmwares straight from Samsung through whatever back channel they have. The problem is that they used to have very little luck getting firmwares for US phones. That's why they disabled USA section.
Typically, the firmware posted there are full ROM version that requires ODIN3.
I'd wait to see if there is way to root the ROM (so that I can hack the tethering and remove bloatware) before I jump in. My understanding is that the current rooting method we use for 2.2 is not going to work anymore.

As a community we should support the open source, more reliable and more importantly, maintained, Heimdall. Odin is responsible for many bricks.
After my recent experience with Heimdall and past experiences with Odin, I am behind Adam 100%.

Since in his Perception thread he stated that using the 2.3.3 build for I9000 was a waste of time, I doubt it. He has his GSII now and is developing for it.

I don't think there was leaked source.
Developing a i9000 ROM is a waste of time and risky. You have to reflash bootloaders and that is a PITA which bricks phones.

I have an unlocked Rogers Captivate currently running 2.1 (JL2). I am trying to update to 2.2 with Kies. I have tried the newest version and also 1.53. Kies recognizes the phone however it will not update, it says "This version of the device cannot be updated".
I have searched for this but have found nothing that has helped me.
Try using a different USB port, I tried using the ports on the front of my PC, no go, moved it to the rear ports and it worked.
No change.
This is what I get.

Were you getting the same message in Kies?
The problem isn't Kies, as it's connecting and reading your device just fine. The problem is the firmware build on the device that Kies can't update. If you want 2.2, you can get it by flashing the one in my sig.

Yup, I got it saying I already have the latest ones, got it updating and stopped it self with error or it doesn't even detect my phone. Until I used win7 32bits laptop, and luckily got it upgraded. But honestly, I'm so disappointed with the stock froyo. After upgrading, it was slower than eclair in general, including UI, games and everthing. Especially worst is the browser speed. I couldnt even scroll on big contents sites, like phonearena.com or pocketnow.com. cuz of the flash. I bet even u successfully update it, you would wanna flash a custom rom to gain more speed or battery. Just like the same path i went through.

Why would this be though? If 2.2 is available and my phone is on an older firmware why would it not offer the update? Thats just messed up.
Anyway I did find the Rogers 2.2 update and flashed with ODIN, it was pretty easy. Does your stock ROM have all the Rogers crap removed?

I had similar experience with 2.2 on my Vibrant. I found by turning plugins to "on demand" made browsing much better. Although the Captivate is far less laggy than the Vibrant, it runs much smoother to me.

If you flashed to 2.1, there's a chance that something is preventing Kies from reading it as true stock firmware. A setting or file could be missing. My ROM doesn't have anything added or removed, that would defeat the purpose of a stock ROM made for warranty purposes. Rogers didn't add much and if you don't want the few apps they did add, they're easy enough to remove with TiBu.
Go into your registry and delete any entries for KIES. Then reinstall the driver package from Samsung. It will work then.
I want to update GB and new baseband but since I heard so many horror stories about bricking the phone through official update, I still do not dare to try. Besides, I live in Europe and if I bricked the phone it's kinda problematic to return in to the States.
Am I last G2X owner on Froyo???
Nope, i am running stock froyo just rooted and modified to my liking withbout any bloat ware or the OTA software. I havent upgraded because my phone runs like a champ the way it is. Just the other day i was playing Metal Gear Solid with FPSE downloading a torrent with aDownloader while connected to wifi and playing Pandora. Granted i have a 3500mah battery which make this possible with out killing the battery.
Lol i just did the update today via OTA no way in hell am i going to touch the lg tool that bricked phone left and right. I new baseband offers a great deal of stability to signal and allows me to get nearly full bars anywhere i go. do the OTA update instead of the lg tool, much safer and a lot easier.

The phone as a whole is a lot quicker now than what it was with froyo imo even when rooted, which right now is the big downside as i can't seem to get this damn thing to root!
Also NVFLASH apparently roots the device now, so no need for superoneclick. I just put CM7 on it!
It's really up to you, but I'd say the ones with horror stories with the official update are in the minority. The entire process is straightforward, painless and lasts about 10mins. Plus the benefits from Gingerbread outweight the cons imho (like the crappier camera) Ofcourse, If you're completely satisfied with your Froyo installation then my best advice is to not try to fix what you precieve as not being broken.

You don't have to root it. Just go to the dev section and flash xboarder's pre-rooted stock since you have nv-flash already.

anyone know how can i root it?
I'm still rockin froyo on Fauxs kernel and ultimate rom lol
As for rooting I thought Superoneclick had GB break on it? If not then you need to do xboarders on top of stock GB to get root. Atleast that's as far as I read on the forums.
Adw launcher ftw

A search button? Never heard of that before...
To be honest, the method is in pretty much every ROM thread in the dev section.
On another note, my update went through perfectly fine. It did stop at 4% and then restart, then got hung up at 5% for a couple minutes, but I left it there and it got going again. If you want to give yourself the greatest chance of success, I would say reverting to stock 2.2 (I uses tgagunman's nandroid), reverting to stock recovery, and removing root before updating probably helps. It may not be necessary, but I haven't heard as many stories of it not working using that process.
I'm rocking stock ROM + debloated + Faux UV kernel with my own profiles.
Running like a champ and great battery life. The best thing? GPS connects instantly

Yes to both.
If all you did was root, you should be able to keep it when flashing. Others have reported that it stays. If you flashed a custom recovery though, it would be wise to flash back to stock first before updating. You can get root after by flashing CWM with odin and then installing the zip file for root.

Thumbs way up. I was wondering when a CLEAN ge rom was going to hit. Everyone has their own version of the GE ROM with their own little "fixes" and signatures all over the meta data.
Now, with that said, will this actually make our AT&T GS4 phones exact replicas of GE? As in, OTA pushed from the settings menu?

I too am awaiting to convert my 32GB i337 into the GT-i9505G. As if purchased right from Google's little play ground.:cyclops:
I wish we had the availability of whatever the OEM uses when the phones are coming off the assembly line. Hardware is identical, and forks pretty much to be flashed in either direction, then they slap some identifying bar codes on them.
ERASE i337, and install i9505G, partitioned corrections and all.

Hello, just wondering if this is fully flash-able with the att i337? I know its probably a dumb question just want to make sure. I would like to thank all the devs for developing roms and kernels and such, I got into flashing roms when the evo came out and ever since then always had to have the top android phone out there. since the evo iv had the sensation, galaxy s 4g, galaxy s2, s3, note, note 2 and s4 the only reason im asking this question is because (htc set aside) this is the first galaxy that ive had that had locked bootloader (i believe) and every so often when flashing a rom i get a Kernel source error so i just end up flashing a Ktoonez kernel and 99% of the time fixes the problem. im using twrpr recovery and would like to use CWM but do wanna lose my back ups from previous roms, again, sorry for going on and on and really do appreciate all the devs work. Ive had an xda account for a while but didnt post much so sorry for having 2 questions in one also would appreciate it if someone could be so kind as to point me in the right direction where i could donate to the devs.
thanks
:good:
No one flash this unless you want a possible brick.

this may be flashable via heimdall, though I'll wait for the devs to inform us first.
Interesting. AMFD modem. I wonder if the modem will be flashable since it seems a newer revision than AMF3 on regular SGH-I337's.
Hopefully the full dump will help in researching work arounds for the locked bootloader.

I thought the amf3 modem was the latest modem for 1337? Am I confusing myself here?

It is the latest for the i337 but with the leak there is a new leaked modem which I'm not sure is or will work for the 337 device.

Exactly. AMF3 is currently the latest official modem from AT&T/Samsung for I337. The Modem in this is AMFD, which by the numbering scheme seems newer. Compatible: No idea but newer it seems.
CAUTION with 5.1.1 UpdateG925PVPU2B0F7I've been spending some time reading T-mobiles issues with the update. This isn't a super new conversation, but is probably new to many Sprint users. The update appears have rollback protection, which effects both kernel and bootloader from what they are saying... Which I find slightly confusing since I didn't think that their was a locked bootloader on the US versions (maybe someone can assist with that)
Figured we could start the conversation early for Custom Root/Recovery/etc. users, so that we may save some of us some trouble with Soft/Hard brinks in the next week or so.
This is the thread I've been looking at.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s6-edge/general/psa-odin-5-1-1-t3136151
EDIT:
NO, the bootloader is not locked with the 5.1.1 update.
Rather, "Factory Reset Protection" (an Android thing - not a Samsung thing!) is now an option, which allows you to lock the bootloader yourself, protecting your device from someone installing a custom recovery, wiping your device and making it their own. It makes the device somewhat less valuable, and therefore (supposedly) less likely to be stolen.
The 5.1.1 upgrade looks to be a "permanent" upgrade, meaning we're not able to revert back to 5.0.2 kernels and recoveries.
So, I would suggest to sit tight with your current set up. In order to customize our devices we will need to wait for:
A) Root for 5.1.1
-Root has been achived: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...elopment/5-1-1-stock-of7-kernel-root-t3153396
B) Samsung to post the source code for the new kernel.
C) Custom Recovery
-Recovery has been achived:
Once we have the above, we can get back to modding our devices.
If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
Interesting article, I remember several other older Samsung devices where you could not downgrade bootloaders and modems. IE Galaxy S3, note 3, s5. But there was still root, Roms and the ability to flash kernels. Hopefully there's no need to go back anyway. The kernel thing is something new so I may hold off on upgrading. Thanks for the info

This is my first Samsung, so the whole root recovery process was almost too smooth since I've been on the HTC side for 5 years. Unlocking bootloaders, S-off and requesting tokens to push.. Ugh, as must as I likes HTC and Sense, that sucked.
I think I'm holding off as well, untill Sac23/ Ram9200 might have spare time to look over the update first and make sense of it all and could at least get it to where V.2 is right now. But it sounds like the Kernel could be our hold up, without Hybridmax's current support.

Yea but based off of my years of experience and having Samsung devices, I'm pretty sure that someone will find a way moving forward, but going back probably won't happen. I too had an HTC evo years back lol and I couldn't stand the root process. I feel your pain. But yea it may be wise just to wait for a while on the update

I've been keeping up with the thread. Looks like T-Mobile got it worked out and looks like it didn't affect the international variant. US cellular just got it. Let's see what happens with them

That makes sense. Thank you for the confirmation. 5.1.1 is only a stock update for the time being
