Am I last G2X owner on Froyo??? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I want to update GB and new baseband but since I heard so many horror stories about bricking the phone through official update, I still do not dare to try. Besides, I live in Europe and if I bricked the phone it's kinda problematic to return in to the States.
Am I last G2X owner on Froyo???

Nope, i am running stock froyo just rooted and modified to my liking withbout any bloat ware or the OTA software. I havent upgraded because my phone runs like a champ the way it is. Just the other day i was playing Metal Gear Solid with FPSE downloading a torrent with aDownloader while connected to wifi and playing Pandora. Granted i have a 3500mah battery which make this possible with out killing the battery.

Lol i just did the update today via OTA no way in hell am i going to touch the lg tool that bricked phone left and right. I new baseband offers a great deal of stability to signal and allows me to get nearly full bars anywhere i go. do the OTA update instead of the lg tool, much safer and a lot easier.

I'd just like to update my baseband and keep my current rom.

I'm with you. I'll wait.

I agreed with everything you guy said..I'm still using froyo but with the ultimate rom.

The phone as a whole is a lot quicker now than what it was with froyo imo even when rooted, which right now is the big downside as i can't seem to get this damn thing to root!
Also NVFLASH apparently roots the device now, so no need for superoneclick. I just put CM7 on it!

It's really up to you, but I'd say the ones with horror stories with the official update are in the minority. The entire process is straightforward, painless and lasts about 10mins. Plus the benefits from Gingerbread outweight the cons imho (like the crappier camera) Ofcourse, If you're completely satisfied with your Froyo installation then my best advice is to not try to fix what you precieve as not being broken.

You don't have to root it. Just go to the dev section and flash xboarder's pre-rooted stock since you have nv-flash already.

It would be nice to know what's the rate of the bricked phones vs. successful installation.

i was on froyo before yestarday
i just updated my g2x with lg upate tool, without any problems, but now i can't root it (cause there is no solution still..)
p.s i didn't knew anything about GB update.. made update and got 2.3.3
anyone know how can i root it?

I'm still rockin froyo on Fauxs kernel and ultimate rom lol
As for rooting I thought Superoneclick had GB break on it? If not then you need to do xboarders on top of stock GB to get root. Atleast that's as far as I read on the forums.
Adw launcher ftw

A search button? Never heard of that before...
To be honest, the method is in pretty much every ROM thread in the dev section.
On another note, my update went through perfectly fine. It did stop at 4% and then restart, then got hung up at 5% for a couple minutes, but I left it there and it got going again. If you want to give yourself the greatest chance of success, I would say reverting to stock 2.2 (I uses tgagunman's nandroid), reverting to stock recovery, and removing root before updating probably helps. It may not be necessary, but I haven't heard as many stories of it not working using that process.

I'm rocking stock ROM + debloated + Faux UV kernel with my own profiles.
Running like a champ and great battery life. The best thing? GPS connects instantly

Rogers Captivate 2.2 update..

I have an unlocked Rogers Captivate currently running 2.1 (JL2). I am trying to update to 2.2 with Kies. I have tried the newest version and also 1.53. Kies recognizes the phone however it will not update, it says "This version of the device cannot be updated".
I have searched for this but have found nothing that has helped me.
Try using a different USB port, I tried using the ports on the front of my PC, no go, moved it to the rear ports and it worked.
No change.
This is what I get.

The problem isn't Kies, as it's connecting and reading your device just fine. The problem is the firmware build on the device that Kies can't update. If you want 2.2, you can get it by flashing the one in my sig.

Yup, I got it saying I already have the latest ones, got it updating and stopped it self with error or it doesn't even detect my phone. Until I used win7 32bits laptop, and luckily got it upgraded. But honestly, I'm so disappointed with the stock froyo. After upgrading, it was slower than eclair in general, including UI, games and everthing. Especially worst is the browser speed. I couldnt even scroll on big contents sites, like phonearena.com or pocketnow.com. cuz of the flash. I bet even u successfully update it, you would wanna flash a custom rom to gain more speed or battery. Just like the same path i went through.

Why would this be though? If 2.2 is available and my phone is on an older firmware why would it not offer the update? Thats just messed up.
Anyway I did find the Rogers 2.2 update and flashed with ODIN, it was pretty easy. Does your stock ROM have all the Rogers crap removed?

I had similar experience with 2.2 on my Vibrant. I found by turning plugins to "on demand" made browsing much better. Although the Captivate is far less laggy than the Vibrant, it runs much smoother to me.

If you flashed to 2.1, there's a chance that something is preventing Kies from reading it as true stock firmware. A setting or file could be missing. My ROM doesn't have anything added or removed, that would defeat the purpose of a stock ROM made for warranty purposes. Rogers didn't add much and if you don't want the few apps they did add, they're easy enough to remove with TiBu.
Go into your registry and delete any entries for KIES. Then reinstall the driver package from Samsung. It will work then.

[MOD][PRIVACY] noCIQ for Skyrocket :: 11/11/11

k0nane presents...
noCIQ (Carrier IQ removal) for SGS2 Skyrocket
Because your privacy matters!
About
Any of you who have come from the OG Epic, Evo 4G, Evo 3D, or Epic touch -or really, who have had a Sprint Android phone at all in the last few years, probably know what Carrier IQ is. If you don't, see this post. CIQ has now shown up on AT&T devices; where CIQ goes, I do as well, with noCIQ alongside.
This mod does precisely what it says on the tin - removes Carrier IQ. For good. No more background process, reduced battery drain, marginally better performance. This package is best suited for stock ROM users and ROM/theme devs - ROM users, you will likely see this mod included in most if not all ROMs from today (11/11) on.
This mod is tested and stable.
How To Install
Wipe cache (main menu) and dalvik-cache (under Advanced) in CWM, and flash as normal.
Downloads
I do not use file hosts with waiting times!
links temporarily removed
FAQ
Q: Can I flash this on an odex'd ROM, including stock, or a T-Mobile SGS2 ROM? What about the Rogers Skyrocket?
A: No! You must use a deodexed ROM FROM THIS DEVICE (AT&T).
Q: I get FCs!
A: Ensure you wiped cache and dalvik-cache. If issues persist, try other common troubleshooting steps. DO NOT report bugs unless you get an FC every single time in a certain place.
Q: This broke (theme/mod/app/etc.)
A: Theme/mod: is it noCIQ-compatible? If not, that's why. Ask the creator to update it. Anything else: no. It didn't break it.
Q: Are you going to release a version without overscroll?
A: No.
Q: I'm a ROM dev/themer. May I use this?
A: Absolutely. Please credit me if you do - other than that, go wild.

I would use |Melvin|'s ADT Stock AT&T Rooted Base ROM; it's deodexed.
Tried this on top of BeastMOD and it did terrible things. (long boot, followed by constant attempted loads and crashes until I hold power to shut it off).
Ok i am going to flash melvin's ADT rom as soon as it finishes downloading.
I think we can use this no carrier IQ mod as well for the guys over Tmo because the 3 way calling and putting 2nd call on hold don't work for them without Tmo's App for Tmo ID management

I've never seen that before, and there are no other reports here - but, I see no reason to believe that's not normal. It's odd, though, that it's showing up. Certainly confirmation that CIQ is being actively used! If you're still getting messages, use an aftermarket app to block them.

Yes to both.
If all you did was root, you should be able to keep it when flashing. Others have reported that it stays. If you flashed a custom recovery though, it would be wise to flash back to stock first before updating. You can get root after by flashing CWM with odin and then installing the zip file for root.

Same thing here. I have the SGSII Skyrocket and the update for 2.3.6 was available to me four days ago. Weird that some folks do not have the update available OTA.

In my experience those don't behave as nicely as one would like (at least given my minimal skill set and knowledge on how to go about such things), but yes it is very possible. I was thinking about trying to get something together in the near future... we shall see.
Most people right now (myself included) seem to prefer rooted/debloated stock. That said, I haven't tried TweakStock yet and that may well be the way to go now. I used to like Infinity, but can't recommend it right now as it's just not as smooth as debloated stock.

Most people right now (myself included) seem to prefer rooted/debloated stock. That said, I haven't tried TweakStock yet and that may well be the way to go now. I used to like Infinity, but can't recommend it right now as it's just not as smooth as debloated stock.

To be totally honest, TweakStock is pretty much just that - rooted/debloated stock - with a few files modified of course.
+1 for tweakstock.
Not only is it de-bloated, it looks MUCH better than stock...

+2 tweakstock. I am running it right now. Smooth a silk. And stable. 24 hours now.
My wife's phone got it before I activated it. Thats how much I like this one.

Sorry to hear that - if you let me know some of the details leading up to the flash maybe I could help you out?
For example -
What were you running prior to flashing?
Did you use the ODIN package or the CWM?
Did you try a package that included a kernel? If so, were you on ext4 or rfs prior to flashing?
If flashing in CWM, did you wipe data?
Did you check the md5 of the file you DLed?

I strongly believe that you could get Tweakstock working. You may have done something incorrectly. I've soft-bricked my phone a couple/few times- I was always able to get it back to normal after flashing the factory ODIN image.

Confused what update is this ?

I'm on SCv7 and I checked for updates and got this :

Kinda confused is it just the radio update ?? Because going by size doesnt look like whole ROM.Can anyone confirm what is this please.
i see the same thing...curious indeed...
perhaps Moto threw us a bone and because its a Dev leak its an incremental update to full OTA... HA
I suggest downloading and not installing (well, you probably won't be able to anyway unless you are on stock ICS) - but then go to /cache folder and copy the update to your sdcard and/or computer and open it to look inside...
I am curious about what this is also... definitely too small for the entire ICS package... which system version do you have?
downloading...
i did also notice there is a release notes URL in the notification, though it brings you to the crappy Motohelp browser page and i'm too busy munching on lunch to follow it through...
btw I too am on SCV7 w/ System version 67.21.123.MB865.ATT.en.US
EDIT: I have it downloaded and sitting on my HD if any dev wants to poke at it. Let me know if/how you want it uploaded.
EDIT2: Attached a listing of files so you can compare sizes and such if that helps.
@seeyoudouble thanks for downloading. I was about to start the download and up it.But can you it please and send to some dev
Thanks in advance.
I would take a look...
It seems like an update for the leak (or, to be more precise, for the Moto devs on that first leaked ics build) - it will probably update you to the non-downgradable leak#2 - NO ONE SHOULD INSTALL THIS YET!
Sent from my phone's mind
I also have the same message, did somebody tried to install this? By the way im using ATT MB865 ICS leak rooted.

It is not wise to install this yet. Let the devs have a good look at it first.
I too have the message. ICS LEAK #1 rooted.

i definitely do not plan on updating as I am quite content with my phone the way it is until CM10 achieves maximum sexiness...
i merely wanted to give those that care an opportunity to chew on it and see if there is anything worthwhile...
Everyone on the first leaked AT&T ICS build will be receiving this OTA update notice.
!!!DO NOT INSTALL IT!!!
...or you will be locked down even more and definitely not able to return to GB - ever.
More to come...
This has the mbloader_ns.bin again????? Been looking at this and temped to try , tempted but not sure yet.....
I've got the notification, too.
Non trap version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879475
Well, Moto is at it again..
All AT&T users on the first ICS leak build will receive a notification for an OTA update package. This new package will bring your device up to the current ICS build that Moto is planning on releasing officially to everyone very soon. This new mini-update package will replace your cdt.bin with the same one found in the second ICS leak, and lock you in a state of no return to GB. No FXZ will be able to help you...
Yes, there is a mbmloader_ns.bin included in this update, but again, it is useless to us at this point - it is only for Moto devs who are using NS bootloaders - but, it appears this update will install for anyone on the first leak, regardless of your bootloader status. So, you have been warned..
DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE IF YOU LIKE BEING ABLE TO FXZ BACK TO GB
Well I really got nothing to loose and gave it a shot no go for me update failed..... Even used stock recovery to try and fail verify check?????? O well now i can roll back for OTA still!!!!!

Wait, were you on fresh and clean stock ICS when you tried to install? or have you modded it? BootMenu and/or Safestrap can also cause install failures...
You can check /cache/recovery/last_log to see why it failed..

Yea.. BootMenu will botch the installation. Also won't install if you have removed certain system apps (some seemingly just bloat).

OK, I am on the very first ics leak. I want to end up completely ics stock. This is my everyday phone and I have an old captivate for Roms and such.
Is there any reason not to install the 46 mb update? Yes I understand I will not be able to go back or mess with boot loaders etc. I have no desire to do so.
Alternatively, I would script back to GB and OTA back up to ICS.
Thanks,

I would not install it just in case Motorola decides to change something and you end up on this locked down version with no way forward or back.

Well... that's your choice completely. But, at this point we honestly have no idea if it can actually be installed by average users on the first leak (I say this because everyone who has tried has failed for one reason or another; also because inside is only an mbmloader_ns.bin, no "hs" like we have, but from the looks of the updater-script, it seems like everything else should install as long as it passes the patch checks for existing files).
We just started warning right away because, yes, this would, in theory, put you up to the version of ICS we found in the latest leak. Which, for all intents and purposes, seems to be pretty close to the real deal (it's been on the server for at least a week straight now).
Which leads me to a question for you: why not just wait for the full official ota then? Probably pretty soon from the looks of things..
But, yes, I believe you could install that update on a clean system of the first ICS leak.
