Root Droid X 2.3.3?? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I upgraded my Motorola Droid X 2.2 to version 2.3.3. It was rooted and backed up by Titanium Backup. I lost the root with the upgrade. I have tried a data wipe with the factory re-set and tried to re- root using z4root. That does not work. So I am unable to access Titanium Backup to restore apps and data. I also had Titanium Backup set to sync with DropBox. Any help would be appreciated.
Specifically, I have done a factory re-set. Then enabled third party apps, allowed usb debugging, downloaded z4root and run the app. It appears to run showing that it is running exploit and then showing acquiring root shell. However at that point it defaults back to the app list and the device is not rooted. I have tried that with both the temporary root and permanent root options in z4root.
Thanks for any suggestions.

What your going to have to do is SBf back to froyo. 2.3.340 root with zroot. Install boot strap and flash a rooted gingerbread rom. Here's a very helpful website. WWW.drewgaren.com

[Q] Question about Unrooting

Hey guys,
I was just wondering how i would be able to unroot my HTC Desire. I rooted it using unrevoked 3.32 and so cannot unroot by simply uninstalling the application itself and rebooting. I have not changed the rom and am simply running on the stock/factory 2.2 (just rooted, nothing else has been changed). The only software i additionally installed was clockworkmod (created a backup) and rom manager.
Would it be possible to simply download the latest telstra rom update from the htc site and run it through htc sync? or am i missing something.
Thanks,
Any help would be greatly appreciated
You can unroot by removing the files using Root Explorer. Look HERE.
Thanks but i tried it and it does not seemed to have worked.
After i restarted the phone the 'Superuser permissions' app continues to exist in my apps list and the "root only" version of titanium backup continues to work.
cheers

atrix - question about factory reset - root and installing unknown source

so after had to do a restore from titanium backup my home and search button stopped working as well as my lockscreen. i don't know why but apparently its a common problem. therefore i had to do a factory reset on gladrooted 1.57. now, i still see superuser and installing again tb it gave rights. so i'm assuming i still have root access? however i can't install from unknown sources. does anyone know if i can enable that? can i just run the afterupdate script again to get this back or do i have to go back to 1.26 and redo everything? Thanks!

Help restore G2X after root and app delete

I am new to Android and need some help.
My G2X has WIFI issue. I rooted it using SuperOneClick and then deleted 2 Tmobile "MyAcccount" system applications (version 1.0 and version 5.0.15) using Titanium Backup Free version. (I backed up data though)
Could someone tell me how to restore the G2X back to original state? I heard that I cannot just run "factory reset" after what I've done. Can I use SuperOneClick to unroot and then run factory reset? Will it restore the MyAccount applications to factory default as I deleted it already? I appreciate your help in advance. Thanks.
If you used Titanium to back up the apps first you can use titanium to restore them as well. You can use Super One Click to unroot the same way you used it to root. Then you can do a factory reset but im not sure if that will restore the "my account apps", Why are you trying to restore??

[Q] Can I lose root even if I don't update my ROM

I should phrase the question, "Can I lose root if I do not update with an HTC/TMO update?".
I walked through guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300) to root my Sensation and it worked with no issues. I had the root phone for several weeks and decided to try a couple new ROMs. I did my due diligence and did a full backup with Titanium and then a CM backup. The problem arose when I flashed in the Revolution HD ROM. Once installed, I could not get Titanium to work. It kept saying it could not get root permission. I checked SuperUser, and it was there, but would not prompt to allow root access for any of my apps. I restored back to my original ROM and again, I do not seem to have root. All my applications are there, SuperUser is set to prompt me when an app requests root, but none of the root apps will work anymore. I grabbed a root checking app off the market, and it says it cannot obtain root too. I checked fastboot and it still shows S-OFF. I've never had this issue with any of my other Android devices once I rooted them. I was able to get my root access back by following step 3 of the guide, but I'm curious how I lost root by flashing in another custom ROM. Any ideas?
You didn't lose root you lost root access. It happened with two of my nandroids from CWM. I just erased them and started over from a fresh rom install and everything was fine. It kinda suxs though lol when SU tells you it can't get access. There are a few if us that this happened too. Its been mentioned in yje Clockwork thread.

Unrooting system apps

My droid x2 was was rooted and then I unrooted. Unfortunately, I did not unfreeze the system apps i froze. I cannot get back in to root and have used apps that said my phone was unrooted. It wasn't. Anyone have a suggestion on how i can root again or unfreeze the apps without root?
You need root access to unfreeze them. It's either that or do a full SBF/System restore.
