I upgraded my Motorola Droid X 2.2 to version 2.3.3. It was rooted and backed up by Titanium Backup. I lost the root with the upgrade. I have tried a data wipe with the factory re-set and tried to re- root using z4root. That does not work. So I am unable to access Titanium Backup to restore apps and data. I also had Titanium Backup set to sync with DropBox. Any help would be appreciated.
Specifically, I have done a factory re-set. Then enabled third party apps, allowed usb debugging, downloaded z4root and run the app. It appears to run showing that it is running exploit and then showing acquiring root shell. However at that point it defaults back to the app list and the device is not rooted. I have tried that with both the temporary root and permanent root options in z4root.
Thanks for any suggestions.

What your going to have to do is SBf back to froyo. 2.3.340 root with zroot. Install boot strap and flash a rooted gingerbread rom. Here's a very helpful website. WWW.drewgaren.com
I should phrase the question, "Can I lose root if I do not update with an HTC/TMO update?".
I walked through guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300) to root my Sensation and it worked with no issues. I had the root phone for several weeks and decided to try a couple new ROMs. I did my due diligence and did a full backup with Titanium and then a CM backup. The problem arose when I flashed in the Revolution HD ROM. Once installed, I could not get Titanium to work. It kept saying it could not get root permission. I checked SuperUser, and it was there, but would not prompt to allow root access for any of my apps. I restored back to my original ROM and again, I do not seem to have root. All my applications are there, SuperUser is set to prompt me when an app requests root, but none of the root apps will work anymore. I grabbed a root checking app off the market, and it says it cannot obtain root too. I checked fastboot and it still shows S-OFF. I've never had this issue with any of my other Android devices once I rooted them. I was able to get my root access back by following step 3 of the guide, but I'm curious how I lost root by flashing in another custom ROM. Any ideas?
You didn't lose root you lost root access. It happened with two of my nandroids from CWM. I just erased them and started over from a fresh rom install and everything was fine. It kinda suxs though lol when SU tells you it can't get access. There are a few if us that this happened too. Its been mentioned in yje Clockwork thread.
Hello,
I just got the htc one s. It currently have 4.1.1 sw. I wanted to stay with the stock Rom, but remove all the bloatware. I rooted the phone and installed titanium backup. I was able to removed all the unwanted apps, but everyone I restart the phone, all the apps come back. Anyone know why and how to fix?

ROM Cleaner is great at this. easy and quick.

Took a while to find all the naming for the apps I wanted to remove using RomCleaner, but was able to get rid of them now. Thanks
I came here to ask a similar question. I just got a new One S black and its up to date. Unlocked the bootloader, rooted and installed CWM recovery.
I can run rooted apps fine, but I cant install busybox and ota rootkeeper isnt protecting my root when I ask it. Titanium backup shows its removing apps when I delete them, but when I reboot, theyre back again. Did I do something wrong when rooting, or is this just how the stock rom is?

Install busybox flashable zip through recovery.
To remove stock apps, use RomCleaner as mentioned by @tivofool in the above posts.
I have stock rom on my phone but had it rooted under 4.2.2.
Now i upgraded to 4.4.2 and something went wrong. The phone is still rooted and su is there but the root permission is gone.
I wonder now how i can get it back without reinstalling everything again.
So far, all programs i previously froze are still frozen which is great. But i can not use Titanium Backup at the moment since the permission is gone.
What would be the best route to go to fix this problem.
btw. i can not rooted it again since for example stump will tell me that its already rooted.
About a month ago I accidentally deleted 2 su files trying to get another app to work. And the app didn't work so I moved on from that situation. A little later that day I tried to use one of my apps that required root and I forgot about the files I deleted, so I uninstalled super user from the settings. Today I tried to use android pay and it says I'm rooted but I used root checker and it says I'm not rooted. I also can't access recovery or bootloader. Is there any way I can fix this so I can use android pay? Thanks.
