[Q] Notifications while charging - General Questions and Answers

Is there any way to have the led for the notification still notify you of stuff when the phone is charging? I keep having a constant red or green and it is annoying that it does not change to notify of new messages and stuff.
Quick note, yes I have used the search, and it just showed that no one was helpful even years ago. And no I can not root my phone, since it an incredible 2, which currently can not be rooted. So your answer better be more helpful than "root it" and "use search"
Thanks.

There are some apps which can do a beep sound every min or so if you have a message. Without it rooted it is the only way. Try searching for "text notify" or something similar. I've forgot the name of the app at the moment. Used to have it a while back before I understood rooting

Interference between SMS Pop up and noLED

So I've been running noLED on my Nexus S for a while now and just decided to add the app SMS Popup. The problem is that when my phone is sleeping and I get a text I no longer get the notification icon from noLED only, I also get the message pop up and the buttons on it (reply and close) stay active.
I wish that when my phone was sleeping and I got a text I only got the "notification light" from noLED and once I unlocked the screen I'd see the SMS pop up. Does anyone know of a way to reach that? Maybe another app would behave accordingly? Thanks
Under the miscellaneous setting in noled check the option to delay SMS notifications. Works great for me.
That said the pop-up won't be there when the phone is unlocked. Just for the I initial screen on.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Thanks for the tip but that doesn't really help me achieve what I want.
Maybe I could try another SMS program? (Handcent, etc) Opinions/experiences would be great.
I don't think the app matters. The way I understand it is noled will "dismiss " any popup occupying the screen in order to work.
Let me know if you find something though as its an option I'd love to have myself.

Tried Handcent, Chomp, tried even using Widget Locker and it was a no go.

[Q] SMS-App changed, but Lockscreen only works with stock app??

Hey Guys!
Because I have the problem, that the stock SMS/MMS app turns long sms directly into mms, I changed the app to smsDroid.
Works fine, I used this app on my Defy before.
But now I face the problem, that the lockscreen will show "New message" as long as I open the message in the stock app... If I open it in smsDroid, only the notification in the notification bar will get away...
How do I solve this problem? It's annoying to open two apps for a sms so that the notification will go away
Hope you guys have an Idea!
Regards,
Muhski
Open stock app
goto settings and turn off the notification..
Hey thanks for the reply!
I already did this, but it only works for the notification in the notification bar...
Whe I get a short message and read it with smsDroid, my lockscreen still shows:
1 unread message
Also the stock app will show 1 unread message in the appliaction menue (little orange "1")...
I'm confused
I've got this issue too, is really annoying I've still not found a way to fix this myself without rooting anyone have any ideas?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Did you try freezing or deleting the stock mms.apk?
Open all your message threads in the stock app to get rid of the "1/xx unread messages" notification at lock screen.
Once it's gone, open Titanium backup and freeze the system app named "Lock screen notifications".
I had the same problem and fixed it like this
I had a problem as i receive message and when i unlock the screen the message becomes read already ........and as soons as screen turn on the notification icons disappears showing that ive read that message....
i simply dellll all the dalvick cache and restarted the phone .........it took time to get stable ...but now its super responsive and stable with no glitches...
if youve deleted some bloatwares or system apps it is necessary for you to delete the dalvick cache for stable performance ....
because deleting the system apps wont delete the cache for that particular app.....that will make phone unstable
I'm not rooted and don't plan to be, there must be an easier easy around this that doesn't need root!

Yes. Root the phone, freeze the app... And unroot once you're done.
What's with the allergy to root? At least it allows you to fix these kinds of issues yourself. If you want something which "works out of the box" and wait months until its works are fixed, grab a Samsung Wave, a Lumia or the like.

Don't advise people to get a wave. Bada is really .... well .... bada
Thanks for tipp with freezing the notification!
But this again is annoying, too, because now I have no notification on the lockscreen ^^
But I think is shouldn't expect too much of Sony making their software working with other software...
Maybe I should get a new lockscreen. Will it fix the problem, too?
I'm not against rooting, but I'd prefer not to,I was rooted before but can't be bothered doing it again if I'm honest! Just want to either integrate/replace the messaging app or stop the notifications!

Interesting Notification Bug - Stock

I have found a weird bug that I can't seem to find reported anywhere else. I'm fully stock, fully updated, rocking a custom tone, but that's just an audio file so that probably doesn't matter. I did, though, delete it, redownload it, switch to defaults, everything along those lines before stumbling on one last guess.
Okay, here's the bug. The notification tone gives only an extremely short portion of the notification before going silent.
Solution - and tested - The person you're getting that messed up tone from has reached it's limit of text messages stored on your phone. Simply delete the text messages and you're golden.
Theory: Educated guess here, I think the phone receives the text, sets off the notification process, then does the deleting process. When the deleting process is triggered it stops the tone. Having less than maximum texts gives a full notification.
I actually had 2 people on my phone at full messages, both of them were getting partial tones. Now they are, one at a time deleting the texts, receiving texts and giving full notification alerts.
funny that i found this thread and my phone just started doing it, will delete the txt and reply back with confirmation

No buzz kill here, I couldn't find the solution myself so I'm glad there is one... now I go to read that thread.
On second thought... since I came up with the exact same solution, it' smuch the opposite of a buzz kill, it makes me happy to have figured out the actual and correct thing.
Then in that case, glad I could help!

The best solution I found was to put the ringtone as a silent one for msging and use tasker to play your notification sound whenever a msg is received.

notification light?

my notification light is not blinking when i have missed calls, txts or emails? anyone else having this issue?
only time i see the light on is when charging but in the settings its set to be on
Not alone

Yea same thing here what is up with that?
That's odd. Sure notification light settings are on? Believe mine worked out the box. Haven't gotten a missed call or voicemail yet but works for texts just fine. Actually blinks great too, can see the light from a distance and device laying flat. On my HTC One X+ notification light was literally only useful if standing over the device looking down.
Downloaded lightflow now notification led working once light flow off notification led stops working unless charging....
Edit: uninstalled light flow
Now led works every time.I recommend light flow if you want led for other apps for example Twitter, Y! Mail

Play Store Restore to blame?
I found this on AndroidForums, it appears the restore function is pulling in something that messes with the notifications. I am also not receiving any LED notification and I also noticed I do not receive Facebook notifications at all. I noticed a ton of Samsung program apps coming over as well which I thought was strange. I am coming from the Galaxy S3.

So, I tried using the Lightflow app...Can't seem to get it to work. Only had the phone for 2 days.....coming from s3.
Only way to avoid this is to decline the Play Store Restore? If so, how do I factory reset? I am used to using custom recovery (TWRP). How do I get into Stock recovery on this phone?

I can confirm my LED went from not working to working as it should when resetting the phone without backup apps enabled. I then attempted to removed as many apps as i could from google play and then reset with backup enabled and I'm back to a phone w/out an LED. A bunch of them that I unlinked from my account are back after a restart and downloading to my device, not sure why...

UPDATE: I went to the menu in Settings and reset that way. Then declined the Google Play restore. Notification light working perfectly now....
Does not accepting the play backup affect anything else such as getting your settings and contacts? Thanks in advance

Considering I had the backup automatically and save data for apps turned off on my old phone, it's really effing lame it was on and did it on my m8... Mine doesn't work either and I JUST got my phone fully setup... Guess no notifications for me for a while. Dammit Google!

Well yeah, I get that. But if it's caused by the auto-restore of apps and such, then you could say that it's whomever's at fault for having it on by default when you get a new phone. Honestly, it's not a big deal, I check my phone enough plus the ringer is only off during class or while I'm sleeping, I can't complain too much really. If that's the only problem with my phone, then color me happy.

Screen flashing white for a while.

Like in title, my screen, sometimes is being white fors a while(like less than 1 sec),like opening an app, but nothing opens and then phone work fine. What to do, what it is? Is it virus?

I'm getting the same thing, mostly when playing a game. Will flash for a split second. Not sure what's causing it.
I don't think it's a virus tho.
Maybe its problem with system or launcher? I haven't found anything like that on internet or how to slove this
Mine is doing the same thing as well. I think at least for me it's because my RAM is getting close to making out.
Same problem
I have the same problem. Has anyone got any hints at least? It's very annoying and no other phone seems to have it.

I'm having the same issue. Screen goes kinda white for half a second and looks as it would start an app, but then goes back to what app you just had opened.
It is not a constant flickering or flashing, as reported from Samsung and other Devices and which is documented via Videos on the Net.
It would be hard to film it, as I haven't been able to reproduce thus behaviour.
When I play a game (King of Avalon) and when I'm just typing and that issue occurs, the typed text is gone. Luckily it doesn't happen while typing on WhatsApp or other apps with text features.
A while back it was almost gone, but then came back, without me having changed the app Setup.
I will reset the phone and see, if it comes back.
I still think it's an issue brought up from apps that use the GPU a lot.
Have tried different settings the Developer Options from Android (Disable HW-Overlay,...) but it didn't help.
Will report, once I have resetted, but will take a while, until I have time for testing.

Hey, I also had this problem, it helped me change the language in voice search to English and turn off "ok google". I use the phone in a different language and I also had it in voice search.
Hello fellow HTC u11 life friends -
I found this thread by Googling, so hopefully others will find it too. I have also been having this very annoying problem for several weeks. Can't remember when exactly it started. Was it after an Android update?
This problem appears to be related to the Google app settings on the phone, as the previous poster suggested. When I read his post, I went to the Google app settings (Setting --> Apps --> Google) and didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but I noticed that there is a setting called Display over other apps. This was set to "yes" by default, so I changed it to "no". Since I made this change yesterday, I have not had the white screen flash once.
It seems like the Google app is being triggered briefly for whatever reason and then closing. By not allowing the app to display over others, if the app is triggered, you won't get that brief white screen like the app is about to open. At least, that's what I think. Fingers crossed the fix holds. I hope this works for others. Let me know!

Before I call you a genius, I still have to wait a bit (and of course hoping)
I just turned off different things in the Google App "show notification for ***"
In this case *** was for Price Alert, stocks alert, sports alert and so on.
Furthermore I disabled the "display over other Apps" as well.
I could imagine that this latter feature doesn't have to be turned off completely, rather than turning off all those useless alerts for stuff I've never even looked for.
Will try to go the next days to see, if that blinking is gone and if soy trying to activate the feature with almost no alerts in order to determine, what the exact culprit is.
Disabling the feature totally might do it, but if for example some alerts were useful, then it would be nice, if at least they worked out as supposed to.
Will keep you guys posted.
Fingers crossed ^^

Tried this method and so far (1h) no flashes. Sounds reasonable, that Google is trying to send some notices to the screen and that functionality is somehow bugged. I'm fine with turning off ok, Google. Have never used it anyway. [emoji28]

Are you using the built in Camera, or some app?
I got 8.1 too but no changes. Have to admit I'm using Google Cam Port. Might be that, because otherwise I've turned off kinda all notifications, but it's still flashing.
As mentioned earlier, I should do a full wipe and use the built in cam and such, but I don't really like it.
I'll see, when I find the time to wipe and set it up again...
