So I've been running noLED on my Nexus S for a while now and just decided to add the app SMS Popup. The problem is that when my phone is sleeping and I get a text I no longer get the notification icon from noLED only, I also get the message pop up and the buttons on it (reply and close) stay active.
I wish that when my phone was sleeping and I got a text I only got the "notification light" from noLED and once I unlocked the screen I'd see the SMS pop up. Does anyone know of a way to reach that? Maybe another app would behave accordingly? Thanks
Under the miscellaneous setting in noled check the option to delay SMS notifications. Works great for me.
That said the pop-up won't be there when the phone is unlocked. Just for the I initial screen on.

Thanks for the tip but that doesn't really help me achieve what I want.
Maybe I could try another SMS program? (Handcent, etc) Opinions/experiences would be great.
I don't think the app matters. The way I understand it is noled will "dismiss " any popup occupying the screen in order to work.
Let me know if you find something though as its an option I'd love to have myself.

Tried Handcent, Chomp, tried even using Widget Locker and it was a no go.

Perhaps you can check out the app's thread for more info and help.

I cant get it to work on my nexus s.. I'm on the latest cm7 nightly and whenever I reboot mynpgone it says noled is on
I had that behavior on stock already. Just learnt to do with out it and now I it does not bother me.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Works fine for me on all CM7 builds. Check your settings and also make sure you have a valid lockscreen for it to work.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
what exactly do you mean a valid lockscreen? I am using stock
Some people like to use third party apps which disable the stock lockscreen like "nolock" which doesn't work with noled. Go to manage apps, noled, clear data. Leave all settings intact except enabling the notifications you want shown. Should work out the box. Don't enable blink.

I still have not gotten this to work with google voice..
Does anyone know if having a screen off profile in setcpu will interfere with this?

Open NoLed, select Toggle Notifications.
Check the box for All Other.
Then tap Monitored Apps. Make sure Google Voice is check marked.
Done
I've noticed that my screen will turn on when I receive a new text message. It turns on to the lock screen and then eventually times out and turns off again. I don't know how to make it so the screen stays off.
Have you guys noticed this? Do you know how to turn this setting off?
what sms app are you using?

Someone posted an mms.apk in the apps forum. That one, along with any mms.apk that gives you the "black background" option, also doesn't wake the screen upon receiving notifications.

I'm using the stock messaging app and I have not flashed Eagle's Blood. I am using LauncherPro for my launcher.
This phone seems to be great with only a few oddities, this being one of them. The other issue I'm having is not being able to end calls sometimes.

I've never used something like that before. What is an mms.apk? Do you have a link to that forum?
Hi all,
I've been a member for a while, but this is my first post in a while.
I recently changed my Motorola Atrix to a Samsung Skyrocket. I love the phone, however I am having a little problem. The Skyrocket will not make noise or vibrate for notifications (such as text, or email, facebook, twitter, etc) but will play ringtone for phonecalls. When I restart the phone, it will work maybe for a day, but after that, it stops working again. Sometimes after receiving a call the notifications will start working again. I've checked the volume settings, and the notifications and ringtone settings, and everything like that... it's all normal. Any suggestions? I've been searching in the forums, and other sites as well, but dont seem to find anything.
The phone is rooted, but that's about it, stock rom. I also did a master reset on the phone as well.
I was using go sms but deleted it and the notifications still go silent.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks!
Hopefully someone here can help ya. I still have not found a solution
Ome thing I never really thought of was trying an Odin restore back to stock...a full clean slate. If that doesn't fix it then definitely a defective phone

That's what I did this morning. So far it's working perfectly, hopefully it will keep working.
Thanks for the reply!
I installed Go SMS again and seems to be working. What I did notice this time around, is that when I was setting up the notifications for the Facebook app, I noticed the option to choose from the Android System ringtones or from Go SMS. Maybe I had it set up to choose ringtones from Go SMS. Seems to be working fine now.
The notification volume and incoming call volume are seperated. The notification sometimes changes somehow idk how. If you want the incoming and notification to be the same download MySettings. The open the app up and click and hold the ringer icon then itll come up with volume settings. Check the box that says use incoming and notification sound together

What are backlightnotifications? What do they do? And why do we need them? I notice they are in the updated kernal.
Read the app description for the app FB states is needed and I'm sure you will figure it out.
So instead of my phone screen lighting up when i recieve a notification my back light at the bottom of my phone will light up. Am i right? OH OK I GET IT NEAT!!
Yes. If you get a text or whatever - your softkets will illuminate and stay on as a notification.
Hmm, i flashed the new kernel but bln still doesnt work. Any suggestions?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
Did you download the app? Did you enable it within the app? Did you flash the kernel through CWM as FB said? Lastly, did you receive a text to test it?
Yes, flashed through cwm. I had an old version of the app, i updated it now but still no luck. And i didnt receive a message, what should i be getting? App is enabled, ofcourse.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
You receive a text to see the BLN. It illuminates your softkeys to notify you of a text.
Or there you can push test notification within the app.
Haha, ofcourse, i know. I thought you meant i had to receive a test message upon installation. No, i already received texts and it isnt working. The test in the app foesnt do the trick either. Bummer, i really enjoyed this on froyo and didva happy dance when i saw it should be working with this new kernel.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
The test in the BLN app will take a few seconds to kick in. Tap on the test text then turn off your screen right after and you'll get the softkeys lighting up.
I've tested this so far with Trillian (works perfectly, the screen doesn't turn on when I get an IM and the softkeys do). GoSMS doesn't work though. Older versions of GoSMS used to work for me on Froyo with the Bali kernel though.
Note that the app you're trying to test this on has to support BLN!!! I think handcent might. You should go through the market and read the description for different texting apps to be sure though.
GoSMS Pro does support BLN. You have to enable LED notifications in settings --> default notification settings for it to work. I have tested and am using with no problems on GoSMS Pro.
I also disabled 'screen on'.

Aha, this was it. I enabled screen on but this is a much better solution . It doesn't work when you have screen on + led notifications enabled at the same time.
Aweeome! Glad you have it working.
Ok, the test works indeed, didnt realise it takws about 5 seconds to kick in. Im using handcent and it doesnt work there, ill have a look at the handcent settings next.

The Bali kernel used a different implementation of BLN. I may end up porting that implementation at some point to see if it helps compatibility.
Well i dont see anything wrong with my settings in handcent, so i dont know why its not working there...

oh I see the built in text messenger or call doesn't support BLN, only some apps.
Not sure about stock. Have not tried it.
What kernal with bln support would be the best for valhalla black

There is only one kernel for GB with BLN. Go to FB's kernel thread.
Hello,
My phone is on a montioring system that sends me a text when a system is having a problem. I need the alarm to be long and loud so I am positive to hear it even if sleeping. My problem is when I get one I want it to automatically stop making noise if I pick up my phone, sweep the screen saver or anything that indicates I'm going to look at the message.
How do I stop the text notification noise if I'm actually looking at my phone?
Thanks

Thanks -no app - just native text messaging notification. I changed the default sound for text messages to a long loud notifications so I respond to emergency texts. I just want to be able to quickly shut them off when I get them.

I don't know if this works for text messages but have you tried the 'turn over to mute' in motion settings? it works great for incoming phone calls.
