Hello,
My phone is on a montioring system that sends me a text when a system is having a problem. I need the alarm to be long and loud so I am positive to hear it even if sleeping. My problem is when I get one I want it to automatically stop making noise if I pick up my phone, sweep the screen saver or anything that indicates I'm going to look at the message.
How do I stop the text notification noise if I'm actually looking at my phone?
Thanks

Thanks - I'm not sure what you are trying to say. To be clear - i want the loud long notification for text - but I want it to shut off when I pick up my phone or touch my screen.

Thanks -no app - just native text messaging notification. I changed the default sound for text messages to a long loud notifications so I respond to emergency texts. I just want to be able to quickly shut them off when I get them.

Well after messing with the native messaging app I've come to the conclusion that its not that great
I'm running Verizon messaging when you hit the popup it kills the notification sound
It tried the kill service app but you cant kill what you can't see running

I don't know if this works for text messages but have you tried the 'turn over to mute' in motion settings? it works great for incoming phone calls.

So I've been running noLED on my Nexus S for a while now and just decided to add the app SMS Popup. The problem is that when my phone is sleeping and I get a text I no longer get the notification icon from noLED only, I also get the message pop up and the buttons on it (reply and close) stay active.
I wish that when my phone was sleeping and I got a text I only got the "notification light" from noLED and once I unlocked the screen I'd see the SMS pop up. Does anyone know of a way to reach that? Maybe another app would behave accordingly? Thanks
Under the miscellaneous setting in noled check the option to delay SMS notifications. Works great for me.
That said the pop-up won't be there when the phone is unlocked. Just for the I initial screen on.

Thanks for the tip but that doesn't really help me achieve what I want.
Maybe I could try another SMS program? (Handcent, etc) Opinions/experiences would be great.
I don't think the app matters. The way I understand it is noled will "dismiss " any popup occupying the screen in order to work.
Let me know if you find something though as its an option I'd love to have myself.

Tried Handcent, Chomp, tried even using Widget Locker and it was a no go.

Perhaps you can check out the app's thread for more info and help.
Yep been there and talked with the dev. Doesn't seem possible.

ok so i'm by no means a newb but this is driving my nuts.... how or can we even shut down the damn notification sound played when you plug the phone into a computer? i don't remember it doing this when i first got it but now every time i hook up to my comp i hear that annoying noise.
Are you referring to the ringer sounding noise?
Ah, I see what you mean...that is kind of annoying. I am thinking there is no way to do it until we have more development.
hope not cause if it is thats sucks
Go into settings under sounds and uncheck SD card notifications and see if that works

So then the work around would be to set ur phone to silent, plug it in, then take it off silent. As of right now I dont see any other way to disable it

Hi all,
I've been a member for a while, but this is my first post in a while.
I recently changed my Motorola Atrix to a Samsung Skyrocket. I love the phone, however I am having a little problem. The Skyrocket will not make noise or vibrate for notifications (such as text, or email, facebook, twitter, etc) but will play ringtone for phonecalls. When I restart the phone, it will work maybe for a day, but after that, it stops working again. Sometimes after receiving a call the notifications will start working again. I've checked the volume settings, and the notifications and ringtone settings, and everything like that... it's all normal. Any suggestions? I've been searching in the forums, and other sites as well, but dont seem to find anything.
The phone is rooted, but that's about it, stock rom. I also did a master reset on the phone as well.
I was using go sms but deleted it and the notifications still go silent.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks!
Hopefully someone here can help ya. I still have not found a solution
Ome thing I never really thought of was trying an Odin restore back to stock...a full clean slate. If that doesn't fix it then definitely a defective phone

That's what I did this morning. So far it's working perfectly, hopefully it will keep working.
Thanks for the reply!
I installed Go SMS again and seems to be working. What I did notice this time around, is that when I was setting up the notifications for the Facebook app, I noticed the option to choose from the Android System ringtones or from Go SMS. Maybe I had it set up to choose ringtones from Go SMS. Seems to be working fine now.
The notification volume and incoming call volume are seperated. The notification sometimes changes somehow idk how. If you want the incoming and notification to be the same download MySettings. The open the app up and click and hold the ringer icon then itll come up with volume settings. Check the box that says use incoming and notification sound together

Ok, I've seen this issue as fairly common, but can't gets it to work. It's a GS3 completely stock running 4.0.2 and I've had it all of 3 days.
Majority of the issues others are having are with not having notification vibration on in messaging settings, which I have triple checked to be on. Sounds settings are all set for vibrate always as well, but it still won't vibrate for any messages or notifications other than calls. It isn't affected by the call/notification volume being on or off either.
It's starting to get frustrating, so if anyone has any suggestions or can give me some direction, it would best greatly appreciated. Also, I think I posted this in the right place and I couldn't find anything similar so I apologize if this has been covered.

Had the same issue. open messages and then (menu)>settings. scroll down to notification settings>vibrate and change to always or in silent mode.
that solved it for me.
Rex.
4.0.4*

I have them messages notifications on vibrate and it still doesn't vibrate.

Sound and vibration musted be checked in system sound settings.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
It is. :/
Still no notification vibration regardless of "silent mode" status (it can be silent, vibrate only, or silent off- no vibration regardless).
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Stupid question...is your vibration intensity down all the way for any of the 3 options?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Nope- incoming call and notification are maxed and haptic feedback is about halfway.

I'm not sure what's going on but I can't get vibration off with sound on when SMS comes in via Hangouts..
The most obvious culprit is in the Hangouts settings themselves.. under the SMS section it clearly says vibrate..
Which I have unchecked.. & rechecked to uncheck again...
It's not helping
I didn't see anything in Sound settings that looked helpful.. or G3TweakBox..
That's just me though..
Any advice ?
Maybe look under the Sound system setting?
