As you can see from the picture, the AT&T logo is prominently placed on the front. The keys below the display look different compared to the standard Galaxy S II. Instead of a mechanical Home button you now get a capacitive one and there is a dedicated search button as well.
While initially the device did seem like the Infuse 4G to us but then when we saw the side profile we noticed that the camera on this phone was jutting out of the case far more than the one on the Infuse 4G. In fact the camera on the Infuse 4G is completely flush with the body, unlike the one on the Galaxy S II. So the one you see above is undoubtedly the AT&T Attain.
For now, however, we have no information available on the launch date of the device but we will keep an eye out for that.

Looks nice but still prefer the EU version with a home button.

That looks pretty sweet, but i agree; I like the Korean/EU version better with the three button look.

Saw this a while back. Depending on whether I have the money laying around I'll upgrade to that next.

I have a feeling those people running 2.3.4 on their atrix would beg to differ.
And how could you have never heard of AT&T? Your post is nonsensical.

how in the world are you a senior member and not even see the dry humor in what just transpired there. let me guess, your more of a analytical guy and not a design/imaginative guy. you didn't even fully read my comment, or else you would have seen the different spellings. i sure hope you don't help people with their questions with that selective reading disorder of yours

My bad, if you were joking I completely missed it. Just a lot of people on the forums will come through here browsing, see something like that and take what they see here as gospel. I'm not in any position to speak for AT&T, I've just seen development take place on several of their phones (particularly the atrix now that the bootloader is unlocked). I didn't see it clarified in this thread so I thought I would.
Your post came across a bit uninformed/jumbled, if you were messing around then that's one thing, just maybe clarify in the future for the sake of any newer members that will probably take what they see at face value. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

its cool, i was just kidding anyways. i was basically making it somewhat more obvious what the previous poster (•.•) was saying to pukemon.(the guy who was trying to ghettofy AT&T). He wasn't being serious, at least i hope not...
I just was correcting the confusion without calling him out, and adding on a little humor at the same time. But since we are ending all the fun, just to restate...
YES! AT&T can be rooted!
P.S.~~technically AT&T(a company) cant even be rooted, its their phones that can

looks great
i think S2 is coming out in sep2011

this is an amazing phone, can't wait for official us launch!

Can someone spot any differences between that phone and HTC Inspire?

Wait the att version isnt going to have the home button?? wtf man

I know, tell me about it. I thought it was about damn time we get a good android phone that isn't fitted with the norm. But word on the grape vine is that AT&T is holding out till september or so, and they are going to slap a dual 1.4 ghz cpu in it I have a tilt 2, and have been waiting to upgrade to this beast for 4 months already, and the thought of having to wait another 2-3 months seems almost unbearable. It's almost making me give in and get the thrill 4g... almost anyways

This is good news!
How much more secured is this than the traditional S-ON/S-OFF? I guess I don't really understand to what extent this new security changes over the old.
Also, it's already cracked on the Thunderbolt so likey can be repeated on the Incredible S. If it's crackable, isn't that all that matters?
This was an interesting argument, to me: NOT that the phones aren't still crackable, but rather that HTC is giving into intimidation by Verizon.. and by doing so, it's signaling that they will bow down to carriers, yet even moreso, over end users who BUY THEIR PHONES and are their actual customers.

You may not agree, but the "rebel" in me likes that argument at least....
When you combine this with HTC America's not honoring warranties, they are not making the best moves given their fractional market share and the massive competition getting stronger and stronger from Motorola and Samsung every day ---- though I love HTC's phones and have never cheated on them once!
But keep in mind HTC *owned* the entire turf of touchscreen devices during the mighty reign of Windows Mobile... Now? Today? They are practically an asterisk. And Motorola? They were gonners. People thought there were out of the game having fallen so far behind after nothing new since the RAZR. Then the new CEO came in, targeted Android as his platform for choice, they targeted the DROID as their re-entry vehicle, and they slammed into the touchscreen market and overtook HTC like a steamroller.
When you are playing on THAT kind of playing field, you're going to go messing with your most loyal customer base -- and kiss ass with a carrier? I think HTC is blundering all over the place -- all the while they continue to make fantastic phones. But fact remains, they cannot afford to even SIGHTLY ANNOY a loyal customer these days. Once someone goes Samsung or Motorola, I don't see a big love affair where they're going to comer back to HTC. So, they better watch it, from where I sit. It's not just as simple a matter as "but we can crack anything". That's missing the point entirely.
Is HTC dual mode? Are they just doing it in the US or all over. That's why I've never liked Verizon. Started years ago over ringtones and BitPim.
What gives that person the impression that Verizon had anything to do with it? They're using the same security in the Incredible S, which from the specs on HTC's website, is a GSM phone so if this additional layer of security were a specific demand from VZW, there'd be no reason to add it to the Incredible S.
I doubt increasing security will hurt HTC sales at all. I'm thinking the majority of HTC phone users do NOT root their phones or hack them. Sure, XDA members do, but the average Joe? I don't think so. The percentage of people who buy HTC just because it's hackable is probably a pretty miniscule amount compared to the big picture.
I could be wrong, but I think the more likely answer for increasing security is to reduce warranty claims and support calls from would-be phone hackers accidentally bricking them.

I'm with this. Go to any Android phone dev section and you see tons of people returning phones for replacement because they goof up flashing it.
I didn't realize this was posted already, I had just posted this in another section, I had said a week ago that it might be the end of an era with HTC locking down their phones, this sucks.
Sent from my Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is just pressure from the carriers rather than HTC itself.
Regardless, i am disappoint!
I hope they dont do this, we need customization!
it does suck, theyll be another motorola now, except sense still owns blur lol
No no no no no. :'( this sucks. I love htc and the OPENNESS of android. Why I DIDN'T go with Motorola for an android device.

Exactly.
Even if HTC were to start locking the bootloader at the behest of one particular network (and frankly, I find the notion that any one network would have enough clout to try and impose such measures questionable, to say the least), there'd be no reason for HTC to do this to all their handsets.
This is a decision HTC have made themselves.

Also true - XDA may be big but it doesn't compare to the number of phones being sold.
Heck, there are more than 3 times as many Galaxy S handsets have been sold as XDA-devs' entire membership and that's just one of a miscellany of handsets this place caters for.
man i hope somebody talks some sense into them
This is bonkers what are they doing this for?

Well I don't know for sure, but when you hook up you phone to your computer and flash it, your computer and phone will communicate with each other, and the computer will tell the phone what the new rom will be. Now, the people here at xda only have to figure out how to tell the phone what the new rom is.
But with this new security, not only do will we have to figure out how to tell it, we also have to answer the phones question to the computer, what the password is to flash it. This password is only known to HTC.

I was thinking the same thing. The new devices with be unlocked and made available to the people who'll use them.
If HTC locked the phones like Motorola does, then there will be no further HTC gadgets for me.
I didn't buy Motorola because of the same reason.
Every time they make a "secure lock" it takes all of a week to open and rewrite
IF they did make it uncrackable, according to the Supreme court decision it would violate ownership rights.
This is phase and as such, will pass

I think you need to re-read that.
The Supreme Court said it wasn't illegal to hack/tweak/modify software such as rooting/jail-breaking but that doesn't magically give you a right to do so.
If end-users have the right to modify their handsets, how do Motorola get away with their encrypted bootloader?

XDA: The time is right

Dear XDA: I think the time has come for you to step out of the shadows. I was at Barnes and Noble the other day and started looking for a magazine in their sizable magazine section. I was frustrated when i went to look for a magazine about android -anything- and found zero mags. However, i did happen to find 12 magazines covering apple. Soo i searched online and to my dismay have only found one magazine that covers android and only apps. Please save all of us who love android and need something to read on the toilet. I promise you i will be the first to subscribe. There is a desert wasteland when it comes to android magazines and you could be our oasis. Seems like now could be the opportune time.
(sorry for the dramatics...just thought it would be fun to post my thoughts about this...)
A magazine on Android ? hmmm...
It's a good idea. There's inough content out there right now to fill a year's worth of monthly editions. I'd subscribe (as long as it wasn't priced unreasonably), and it could open way more people to Android rooting/flashing/modding...

Sounds cool. But sounds dangerous for xda also. Just thinking that people who aren't supposed to root or mod their phones might pick up a magazine andtry, then fail, maybe even brick their phones, and then they try sue xda. All i'm trying to say is I think it's best for people who don't have the mindset for modding or whatnot, to not be introduced to it or even tempted.

A Warning on any article helps, they cannot get sued just because someone brick their phone, it wont be XDA fault.
Yeah but some narrow-minded twit is bound to try and go after xda at some point anyways, if it hasn't happened already. And there's always an opportunistic lawyer to accomodate (apologies to any members who happen to be lawyers lol). That's why there are disclaimers at the top of almost every thread. At least magazine revenue would help pay the legal defense fees.
This site has gotten so big since Android got hot, there's a constant influx of people who just bought their first smartphone and already know they want it rooted with CM7 and A2SD, but have no idea how to make it happen. If properly implemented, the mag could be a roadmap to get them started, and teach them some forum etiquitte (search, read, search, read, find correct forum to ask in) before they end up neck deep in technical terms they've never heard before, and a device that no longer boots. Beats following some half-ass youtube video with a megaupload link and then having a first post on xda titled 'help i bricked my...'
Edit: damn you, skepticalguy, you stole my spot ;-p

A warning/disclaimer won't be a magical 'no lawsuit' pass for anyone. If enough people face issues and ends up bricking their devices, the magazine will get sued. Whether the lawsuit succeeds or not is up in the air, but I doubt it's 100% guaranteed to fail and, more likely than not, retailers selling the magazine will then ask themselves if they should continue stocking it or not.
And, of course, we're just talking about lawsuits from regular folks. Imagine if Google (or any number of other corporations involved in profiting from Android) gets a hold of the news that there's a magazine out there advising the general population on hacking the OS. Somehow, I think this is going to be another one of those times when 'Do No Evil' no longer applies.
If XDA decides to gets its own magazine, it should do what others have done: Give advice to look up how to do it, but do not offer any direct advice. If the people reading the magazine decides to continue doing it, then they only have whatever advice source they looked up to blame if something screws up. Of course, this still doesn't give the 'No Lawsuits' pass, but it'll probably be a much stronger case for the magazine.
All of this could just be my pessimism speaking, so no one has to feel that what I said will be unalterable reality. Still, it seems like an awful lot of risk for an attempt to get into a market that is supposedly not doing so well. I mean, there's nothing wrong with being online-exclusive. I doubt Engadget, with its 5+ million visitors, is complaining.
True true. The xda portal is pretty much like engadget itself. And engadget gets some of its news from xda also. Guess the problem is, the amount of people that are interested in hacking and modding, which is a relatively small amount. And well, as said before, we don't want to be inviting people who aren't supposed to be hacking or modding, else we get more threads saying how they bricked their phones. So maybe it's best to just stay as it is now.
^ Yes, you are right about that, but perhaps it's not as matter of exposure.
Look at the iPhone. Jailbreaking is much more widespread than Android rooting, but last I heard, it was still only about 2-4% of the entire iPhone userbase that was doing it. As others mentioned, there are several iPhone/Apple magazines too.
I think hacking has always been the domain of a small number of folks who probably knows the method to find out how to do such things by themselves anyway. The overwhelming majority probably doesn't want to hack and additional exposure by magazines to them might increase the hacking community by a small amount, but probably not any very significantly.
Rooting/jailbreaking/custom ROMS/etc will probably continue to be the domain of folks like those who frequent XDA and it's unlikely that it'll ever be as popular as, say, downloading MP3s until it becomes a super easy/risk-free task that has an undeniable benefit to the common man.
But frankly, I don't see a need to make it as common as downloading MP3s anyway. XDA is freely available to anyone who wants to know and, for those who don't want to know, let them continue using a stock Samsung Nexus S.
Yes... xda is the way forward! It is improving alot!!!!!!!!!

Gingerbread coming by end of the month for G2x?

Apparently the wait for the T-Mobile G2x Android 2.3 Gingerbread update might come to an end this month. As you might already be aware of, LG and T-Mobile has made quite a few promises regarding this upcoming long-awaited Gingerbread update since April this year, announcing that the update will be available “soon”.
However, we haven’t yet seen any updates for the G2X and everything we’ve got were the same “coming soon” announcements.

T-Mobile G2x Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update To Be Released This Month ?
Apparently, one more announcement from this category has been made on the LG forums, suggesting that the T-Mobile G2X Android 2.3 Gingerbread update might actually be released this month. As you can see in the picture below, one of the forum moderators answered to a disappointed customer that he would be “really surprised” if the G2X update would take more than a month to be released. Let’s just hope that he’s not merely hoping as we all do, and he actually knows something about the July release of the Gingerbread update .

At this point, there is nothing about LG that I believe. First it's "coming soon," then "before summer," then "we're going to release a statement in a few days." All of those statements are full of **** if you ask me because NONE of the statements they've made has panned out. As far as i'm concerned, the G2X will never be updated. If by the luck of God it is, then i'm going to play with it again and see if the bugs are worked out and if by chance this lost company has done it some justice, then i'll switch back. It's sad because i'm one of the luck ones that got an exchange for a Sensation and I still check these forums on a daily to see if that update has came but just like everyone else, i've stopped believing. Flash the CM7 and be alright with that because the official ain't coming.

According to the Nordic LG site, the Gingerbread update for O2X is expected in fall 2011, so my guess is we won't see the update for G2X for while either...
Either way, I run CM7 without any problems on my G2X. Great phone!

Sorry guys.
Ordered my Galaxy Nexus today.
I'm willing to downgrade my hardware to support open source, unlocked bootloader, and development. I feel that by not returning this phone - I am playing a part in supporting locked bootloaders.
I will continue to support this movement, update this thread, pester AT&T, and will probably be back should the bootloader be unlocked when my girlfriend needs a phone.

Im down for the cause
Commented on their FB page. After hearing what AT&T's CEO said today about unlimited plans and iMessage, I really can't stand AT&T now.
Lets get this done people!!!!!! I hope this flippin works!!!!!!!
Been commenting under "Robert Dole" on the facebook page since last night on everything.
I also have brought this to the attention of two editors (Myriam, Terrence) on Engadget directly via comments and podcasts chats on thier site. I also 'tipped' Engadget about it as well. Hopefully they will run a story on it.
EDIT: The more people that help, even just something as a simple post on att's FB page the better. Strength in numbers! Get everyone involved even if they don't have a One X!
just found this article :

Let's get the ball running everyone so this issue can be resolved ASAP I'm down also for this I can't wait to pick this phone up Sunday

I'm joining in as well. Just spammed their page a bit. E-mailed HTC on the matter and I've been looking up information all day.
It won't be coming ever.

I'm going to bomb that recent posts section on their page so it just says
LET US UNLOCK OUR BOOTLOADERS
5 times.

They said this about the Vivid. I'm sure HTC One X will be the same.

Not true. This article doesn't prove anything. Nothing changed. AT&T is blocking the unlock. At least until they cave in with all the pressure.
This is the exposure I wanted.

Not sure what you mean.
AT&T says it wont be coming.
They might reconsider but it isn't going to be released "very soon" as some were saying before. It will take some serious threatening to AT&T...

We knew this already (att was the cause) but this is great news for us. The more coverage this gets the better. We want it to be toxic to at&t's PR so they are forced to address the issue! Hopefully more top tier tech blogs will cover this too!

All AT&T cares about is PR. They will cave in. The carriers always do.
Exposure like from The Verge is very helpful.

I have also been posting on Facebook. We need to keep spamming pages like Facebook and their Forums so that we can get the employees' attention. That will lead to them telling their supervisors. Then their managers. Then to corporate. Then to their Engineering/Dev team. THEN SUCCESS.
SPAM THEIR FACEBOOK WALL. LEAVE NO REST.

After this we're going to torch local AT&T stores to the ground.

Seriously, i had this problem with my Atrix and my Droid 3. It's actually stupid. I cannot believe At&t would cripple their own device. and what's worse, is that they are not fixing their mistakes. how does this affect them in any way? it doesn't! its absolutely a stupid move on their part. i hope that they understand that they are shooing away customers.
Can you get in trouble for repeatedly posing on their fb page? I see it let's you post on their wall not just comment on posts.

Why does samsung have to be a bunch of dkheads!!!!

Why Dont they release One phone for ALL This is one downfall of these money hungry FKRS... Korea apparently get the 1.8ghz clocked Octa core WITH LTE ---- WHY CANT WE ALL GET THIS ONE, WHATS THERE FKN PROBLEM.. MTHR-BEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!!!!... Most other countries will get the I9505 snapdragon and other countries will get the I9500, And here is where is becomes REAL stupid... 60-70% of sites say the I9500 will come only in 3G 30-40% say it can support LTE in some countries.
Some ridiculous news I heard
Samsung did not have enough parts, so they used the S600 to fufill there stock.
Some developers can unlock the i9500 so they it works on LTE
The LTE exynos is bad on battery ( BS ) I own the I9305 its the SAME BATTERY LIFE as the I9300 I owned them both, I DIDNT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE
ITS 2013 EVERYPHONE SHOULD COME WITH 4G STANDARD!!!!!!!!
Guys Is the S4 I9500 going to support LTE or not and why are so many places saying it can and and so many saying no... If someone knows anything, do you know what LTE bands it will be
Surprised to see a senior member post this. You can have your exynos octa. I'll take my superior gpu and be on my way
Wow.... switch to decaf?
Sorry I just snapped it.... LOL
I really dont care if its Octa or Quad or what ever.. Why do they need more then one variant... I wasnt happy about the I9305 but I said ahh maybe they made a mistake and realized we should of brought out all the phones with LTE and 2gb ram.... But no it happens again... Ah well life goes on Rant over...
So really is the I9500 LTE or not... And why are there so many places saying it is and vice versa.. Anyone have it in there hands already that actually know?
There's so much ignorance in the OP... and I don't mean that to be disrespectful.
Samsung is one of the only companies that is capable of doing such a giant world wide launch in every country producing millions and millions of HIGH END phones for everyone at once.
No one is capable of doing this, not Apple or HTC.
Apple slowly releases the iPhone out in regions. HTC doesn't sell as well as Samsung does.
Look at it at a business standpoint. That's all I can say.

Bwahahaha! More like " need a hug?" LMAO! Lets get this closed.
I don't want to look at it from a business stand point . I want to look at it from a consumers
I guess you will like it if you buy a phone and then 3 months later they release the same version but enhanced. Well I myself would rather them releasing that enhanced one 1st then 1 year later another enhanced one, but that's just me. < and BTW I don't doubt samsung is a capable company, I just don't believe that they couldn't create one variant for all, its all money making ajendas
Rant out..

So, why did you have to start a brand new thread? I see several open threads about this topic already...
Didn't have enough time to search I just quickly looked at first pages topics and didn't see anything like this.
Feel free to close .. I made my say hopefully a samsung spy has read it and passed my message to the boss LOL

But haven't you seen the benchmarks? They are nearly identical in performance. One isn't going to outperform the other by a noticeable margin. And if there are regions without LTE, then why put LTE chips in those phones? Even if a LTE chip cost $1, that's a few millions of dollars that add up in these regions. That could cut cost on your next TV, Phone or samsung designed toilet.
My i9300 outperforms my GF's i747 in benchmarks but there's nothing I've ever done that her phone couldn't do.
I'll just leave it at this. You're possibly one out of a million consumer that feels this way. The other consumers probably don't care and will never notice the benchmark differences. They will have a phone that functions like another SGS4.
In a research study, people were blindfolded when drinking various water bottles. Most of them chose plain American tap water as the best tasting water.
I do hope that one day Samsung is capable of just making 1 phone for development reasons. But if this allows me to enjoy a SGS at a great price optimized for my region and I don't have to wait 6 months like I did with my ATT Captivate I'm happy!

I believe it's because of fulfillment reasons. They don't have enough initial capacity to produce enough handsets worldwide.

Maybe the OP needs to unregister from XDA and start enjoying life a bit more.
The only fail by Sammy is that they are not using SD600 in all their S4's.
