Installing apps on mem card? - HTC Sensation

Just a quick one
I'm looking at getting the Sensation but as it only has 1gb are you able to install apps to the mem card instead?
Thanks guys

You can move apps to SD that allow it, using Google's official Apps2SD. For example, the Engadget app can not be moved to SD (well, technically it can, but if you do, the widget stops working).

yes you can.. im not a big widget user, so im fine..

Seriously, 1gb is more than enough. Including the factory installed apps, I have 103 apps installed in the app drawer - every app I consider worth having. I have many games including angry birds series. Available internal memory is still 681mb and none of my apps have been moved to sd!

Problem with Apps staying on Home Screens

In short, most Apps downloaded from either Amazon Market or Android Market won't stay on my home screens, but still show in my app screens. I am running a rooted stock 2.2 kernel.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue, and if there was a way to fix it without having to restore my phone.
Problems with Apps staying on Home Screens
I have had the same problems with 2.2 but only with apps that are moved to the SD card. Whenever I reboot the phone, the apps on the SD card are gone from my home screen.

restore your app back to your phone memory from external sd so it will not disappear once rebooting your phone that's one downside of stock froyo rom.
happens to me occasionally with apps stored on internal mem. i dont use sd for apps... angrybirds is the biggest culprit
All my apps are on phone mem, and yeah, main prob is angry birds. Ha, nice to know i'm not the only one with this issue.

Same here on stock 2.2. I tried Fast Reboot market app for relaunching TouchWiz, also master cleared data. No joy. Samsung never answered my support email, but what worked was Go Launcher EX, a great alternative to TW.
Strangest thing though... after clearing Market app's data and rebooting to resynch the My Apps section of Market I saw my sim card glitch (slashed circle, no bars) and after reseating/rebooting I was left with phone plus unusable external SD. One new sim, new Cappy (my 4th) and new SD card later, needless to say Apps2SD nevermore!

More Internal Memory??? ?

Hi guys i was wondering if anyone knows a way for.us to get more internal memory i know theres the fota file thing. But is it posible in any way that we can buy or change the internal memory of this phone and put another one bigger?

Nope.avi
Internal memory is what it is.
Ok, it sucks having this phone with such small memory. I had a vibrant before and when you are used to have phone with big internal memory like i did it sucks big time. I hate every time that im dowloading an app abd give me the error of not having memory available
rught now im just with the default apps and the xda app, ninja jump and another game for my kids. Nothing more :/
Before wiping my phone last week i had 90+ market apps installed. I never got any errors regarding internal storage space. I remember using the fota fix app though.

Something doesn't sound right. I've got over 60 apps installed from the market with no memory issues. Check your internal memory to see if its full.

You'll have to root and apply the fota fix by Matt Henry http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13504566. Do this and you'll have all the space you need

Also you can use an app like app2sd or one like it so put apps onto the so card. I use this for games because they take up the most storage space. I use link2sd and use ext4.

Are you running a GB Rom? I had issues with link2sd and ext4 with apps disappearing back when the first GB leaks came out and we had all the busybox ext4 conversion problems. Since then I have kept away from it, but would love to use it again if it is running smoothly with the newer leaks / roms.

Have u tried App2SD app?... it will automatically change the location for the new installed apps to the SD card instead of the internal memory.
Ofc some apps just need to stay in the internal memory but, just to mention, i have 114 apps installed, 91 in the SD the rest in the internal memory (including the stock apps)

I am on octane with link2sd with no problems, there is a setting that you turn off so all of your apps don't go to sd. This way you can choose

[Q] USB storage app?

Hi all
This is my first post here. I am a newbie to this forum, the sensation and ICS but not to android, I was a proud desire owner for 18 months until I dropped it into the bath .
Anyway, since the ICS upgrade, I am a little confused on the app info screen. When I move an app to SD, it goes to something called USB storage app and not to SD? I have searched high and low for an answer to this before posting. Any ideas guys?
Many thanks
In the apps to SD app, everything appears to be on SD.

I'm on stock ICS, and I can't recognize the problem. Have you used app2sd to move apps or just the app drager. Cause remember to have heard about problems with the app2sd from time to time. Not much help though. Sorry

An example:
App info
World of goo
Total. 34.48mb
App. 412kb
USB storage app 31.52mb
Data. 2.56mb
SD card. 0.00mb
It appears that there is nothing on SD even though the app has been moved. Most of the app has moved to USB storage app, whatever that is?

Hi. my first post here on xda. Been with android since the G1 on android 1.0.
From what I can gather:
Total is the total app size
App is the storage on the phone
USB storage app means the app is installed on the SD card.
Data is saved items like games or logins
SD card is what the app has on the SD card regardless of install.
I unmounted my SD card and the apps that were under the USB storage app disappeared from my app tray. I hope this helps explain it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Can't move apps fro memory to SD Card?

Ok guys I have the Razr Maxx HD and loving it. But im using titanium and noticed I can't move my apps from memory to my SD card. Freezing apps is no problem but once I move an app, exit and reopen titanium it appears the app was never moved. It still shows it sitting on the memory.
Any help with this?:banghead:

I asked about this at the Verizon store when I was getting a few things resolved. The response I got was that apps cannot be moved to an SD card. Only things like pics, videos, downloads, files, etc. can be stored on the SD card.
Would have been nice to know prior to purchase...
What??!! Wow that's a huge minus. Even using external apps like titanium? Smh

Yep, word on the streets (or at least from the Verizon broad's mouth) is no apps can be moved.
That's true. We can't move apps to SD Card, i bought a 32 GB SD Card before know it.

I think it has something to do with the stupid reasoning to mount the internal memory as sdcard and the sdcard as external1. If someone modified the mount list to force the sdcard to be mounted as sdcard, it would probably allow apps on the real sdcard.
That's a jelly bean thing... Android removed that ability in 4.1 unfortunately
Not meaning to seem daft, but is there a specific reason that you need/want to move your apps to SD? My understanding of how Android works now means that you can use the entire onboard memory for apps... negating the need that earlier phones had to shift apps across due to lack of space.
Some games have up to1.5 gigs of data. It doesn't take that many to fill the internal memory.

[Q] Can't install/update using Google Play due to wrong insufficient storage

Hi!
This is related to a Galaxy Ace 2 phone, but I posted by mistake on the general forum.
It seems I can't install/update large-ish apps using Google Play and I get an error related to insufficient storage.
The problem is that I have around 170MB available internally, plus 500MB on each SD card (internal and external) and the error shows up when trying to update Swype, Google+, Google Search, etc. (all around 15-20MB).
If I uninstall some apps/games (e.g. Angry Birds, Cut the Rope) the free space goes up a bit (not much, as I keep these on the SD card) and now I'm again able to update those apps initially mentioned.
It seems just like my Ace 2 is trying to keep around 150-170MB as some sort of reserved space.
Is this normal? Should I worry that I may have a faulty phone/NAND?
I'm using the MF1 BTU ROM, stock, but I'm coming from the MB4 version in order to get the full 624MB RAM.
Thanks!
Reserved space could be system files. Overwriting those could potentially brick your system.

Yes, pretty sure. I checked it via the Storage menu in System Settings and also via Titanium Backup.
Also, I'm not using any kind of script or app like Link2SD which mounts an EXT2/3/4 partition as /data. I think this excludes the possibility that free space is being incorrectly reported (but I'm not really sure).

Hi,
This is a very commun issue with Android, it seems that the algorithm calculating free memory isn't that efficient. The best solution is to keep more than 250MB on internal memory. And if it happens, to remove one or two apps

Why not try to install these apps on sdcard ? It may solve your internal memory problem.

That would indeed minimize the impact of the problem. However, not all apps support being moved to the external sdcard and some become a bit limited. In addition to that, even apps moved to the sdcard continue to use the dalvik cache on internal storage.
I have the same problem but i do clear the catch each time
