Problem with Apps staying on Home Screens - Captivate General

In short, most Apps downloaded from either Amazon Market or Android Market won't stay on my home screens, but still show in my app screens. I am running a rooted stock 2.2 kernel.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue, and if there was a way to fix it without having to restore my phone.

Problems with Apps staying on Home Screens
I have had the same problems with 2.2 but only with apps that are moved to the SD card. Whenever I reboot the phone, the apps on the SD card are gone from my home screen.

restore your app back to your phone memory from external sd so it will not disappear once rebooting your phone that's one downside of stock froyo rom.

happens to me occasionally with apps stored on internal mem. i dont use sd for apps... angrybirds is the biggest culprit

All my apps are on phone mem, and yeah, main prob is angry birds. Ha, nice to know i'm not the only one with this issue.

Wow good call, upon further investigation, all my problemed apps were put to the sd card by default... thanks for your help!

Same here on stock 2.2. I tried Fast Reboot market app for relaunching TouchWiz, also master cleared data. No joy. Samsung never answered my support email, but what worked was Go Launcher EX, a great alternative to TW.
Strangest thing though... after clearing Market app's data and rebooting to resynch the My Apps section of Market I saw my sim card glitch (slashed circle, no bars) and after reseating/rebooting I was left with phone plus unusable external SD. One new sim, new Cappy (my 4th) and new SD card later, needless to say Apps2SD nevermore!

I think angrybirds defualts to the SD card. Hence angrybirds, and other SD apps dissapearing like the op stated.

[Q] Froyo questions

Deleted.
I've noticed a big speed difference on Froyo. I believe it partially opens all (or most) apps in the background so they'll open and process faster. I'm not 100% sure how that works, but yes it's faster on my phone.
It does have it's own tast manager in the settings but that was also in 2.1.

You have the option to move downloaded apps to the sd card. You must be careful not to move any that you are using widgets with or they'll have errors when you reboot or connect to the computer (because the sd is unmounted)
I haven't noticed a jitter. But I believe that's all dependant on what home launcher you use. I use Launcher Pro.

Yes, you can move apps without the 'protected' flag to the SD card. Pretty much all commercial apps are 'protected, but many hefty apps such as games allow you to dump game content to the SD card whilst keeping the launcher app protected.
Yes, it does :-(

FroYo is very fast & smooth, and better than Eclair on my Nexus.

[Q] Widgets vanishing after reboot.

sorry to make my first ever post a lengthy question, but i haven't been able to find a solution anywhere else on the forums (or google, for that matter). Here's the rundown:
Recently moved over to the Infuse from an iPhone 3GS (jailbroken within one week of purchase) and couldn't be happier. I had it rooted via Superoneclick a few days after i got it and decided to get in on the fun with a different ROM. Tried Infused, Refuse and Bionix but had the same issue each time...after rebooting into the new ROM, everything behaves normally. I can restore my apps via Titanium Backup, re-add my widgets manually, and everything works great. Then i reboot the phone for whatever reason and the Foursquare widget and Tripit widget are gone from the launcher (doesn't matter which launcher i use...tried LP, stock and TW). Not only that, but they also don't appear in the widget selection list if i try to re-add them. The apps are still in the app drawer, and seem to run normally, but the widgets are gone. I have other widgets in use that seem to survive the reboot, but these two vanish every time.
I've followed the instructions for rooting, modded 3e, CWM, and the individual ROMs to the letter. I even tried using Odin to return to stock and wiping cache, etc. before my last attempt, only to get the same result.
Also tried installing the apps fresh from the market without using Titanium Backup at all, but to no avail.
The apps are installed to the phone, not the external SD.
can anyone help shed some light on this? i'd love to be able to take advantage of the features in these ROMs, but if i can't trust the phone to hold on to a couple of widgets, then i don't know what else it could forget.
thanks!
Try moving Foursquare and Tripit to the internal memory. I had issues where wallpapers installed to my SD card would disappear on every reboot because Android would try to load the wallpaper BEFORE the SD card was mounted, and the wallpaper wasn't available. You may have the same thing happening with your apps and their widgets.
Move all Widget apps to phone. For some reason the infuse move then automatically to the SD card.

Yup. Widgets not working when installed is a known issue with, at the very least, Android System Info. For whatever reason the Infuse defaults to installing to the SD card.
Settings->Applications->Manage Applications
Choose the widget app and move it from SD to internal mem. You may need to reboot after that
wow you guys, thanks for the help!
apparently the apps were returning to the external SD after restoring via TiB, even though they were in the right place (on the internal memory) when i originally backed them up. my fault for not checking after the fact, i suppose.
everything is running as it should now, and the extra speed/reduced bloat of the custom ROM are fantastic. XDA rocks, and i'm happy to be a part of it!

[Q] Is there any reason why everytime I reboot I lose half my apps?

It seems whenever I reboot...I notice a bunch of apps gone..I reinstall and then when I reboot again...they either stay or get deleted again.
EDIT: my infuse did this when it was not rooted also. I just now rooted it and had to reinstall a bunch of apps...I did that and rebooted and voila. They are gone again.

Ok go into settings-applications-all-move apps that are diisapering to the phone close reboot see if that works?
they come back after about 5 minuets or so. its because they are stored on the sd card.
i got used to it.
Does it matter that it says media scanning complete up top and I still dont see them?

Move all the apps off the SD Card, then remove the SD Card to prevent future apps from being installed to it.

I have a 32GB SD card which I would like to keep in the phone... :-/ But the apps themselves are on the internal SD I believe. it's odd...my friend doesn't have any of these issues...we both upgraded same day with the infuse. It could be something simple I am just a android noob and plan on living on these forums reading as much as I can.
the disappearing wallpaper is due to the wallpaper being on the sdcard and not phone storage (same device in a physical sense, different partition/device to the os) the ui loads before the sdcard mounts. the media scanner seems to run before the apps are loaded. so it needs to load the default wallpapper to unlock the phone.
the other disappearing apps may be due to the same thing but they should show before you have an opportunity to reinstall them, unless they are somehow on the external sd card and that sd card happens to be a class 2 or something slow like that.
i hate apps to sd for anything other than older phones that have under 512mb of phone storage. it just causes confusion, i dont really know why some apps like to install to the sd card on this phone others dont and it never asks you, this never happened on my captivate.

Hmm...makes sense...I do have a 32gb sd class 2 sandisk card but i've heard mixed things on whether the different classes matter on the Infuse. But yes the apps issue is strange...but they are on the internal SD. Some are on the phone. So moving them all to the phone should fix the disappearing issue?
I just worry about running out of space. phone memory is only 2gb.

2GB is a pretty huge amount of space for apps so I wouldn't worry about that. Some of the larger games that require downloading extra cache files, like Order & Chaos, save that to a special cache folder that AFAIK doesn't count towards the 2GB internal memory limit (please correct me if I'm wrong).
Does anyone know of a way to disable apps saving to the SD card by default? In other words, how can we ensure that we always save apps to the phone? Saving to SD actually causes one of my favorite apps, SoundHound, to not work correctly as the widget isn't available, even after I move it to the phone memory.

My current problems are, everytime I reboot my break.com app gets deleted and has to be reinstalled...it won't let me move it to phone memory. Netflix app gets deleted also. When I try to move that to phone is says low memory. I have 1.4gb free on it.

That sucks. If it makes you feel any better, sometimes my Infuse will say that I have insufficient memory to install a new app as well, when I have more than 1.5GB free. :-[

i hate the delay on loading apps that are on the sdcard. i moved every single app i have on to the phone and dont have to wait 5 minutes to use my phone. apps on the sdcard are also slower and cant include more advanced features like widgets. sadly since theres two sdcards, theres no option to have apps install to the phone by default.

It's odd...I have moved all the apps I could to my phone memory and since then I have had no problems after reboots except the break.com and netflix app. Not really a big deal it only takes a few seconds to reinstall those. I have waited 5-10 min after bootup for those to come back but they do not. Just a minor annoyance though.
i can imagine big video apps caching to the sdcard.
Actually for whatever reason I was able to move the break app to my phone this time. Only took 20 reinstalls lol

Apps on SD Card Problems

The majority of my apps are on my 32 GB SD card...here lately, I noticed that the Market kind of gets hung up when updating apps. The apps still show their ICONS and in Manage Applications they are there but the market simply will not do updates. I'll reboot and more often than not, my app ICONS now longer show up. I can go into the SD card through a file manager and everything is there and looking good. It just won’t see the apps there...over time, they either just reappear or I reboot (or reboot a few times) and they return...
I've seen other posts about missing apps on an SD card but this sounds different...suggestions?
still having this issue. Was wondering if anybody else has encountered this? close to just hard resetting my phone a erasing the sd card and starting over.

G2X Storage Issue

So, I just got my new G2X yesterday and loaded all the apps that I had on my MyTouch 4g before. Today I tried to download a 25MB app and my phone is already saying that there isn't enough storage space. When I check under storage it shows that I have 1.2 GB left on my internal storage. So if I have over a gig left why can't I download a 25MB app?
OK, so, come to find out that the Amazon market was able to DL apps perfectly fine so I uninstalled the Android Market updates and then it started working again. So, for what it's worth.

What would have been helpful was a better description of what you were doing, the full message you received.
The market downloads apps to a temporary cache before installing them. If you try to download many apps at the same time sometimes you will get the out of memory error. I got it on my Nexus One often. It has nothing to do with how much usable memory you actually have left. If you are downloading a large app download it alone and don't download any other apps at the same time.
Good advice. That's happened to me before.

Good call. I'll be sure to keep that in mind in the future. thanks.
Not to thread jack. where I'm having storage issues is the way it seems my SD card is being handled. For whatever reason my phone shows as having 3 storage locations SD card, Phone memory and Internal phone storage. The issue is that when using music players when picking a source it only lets me choose from either internal storage or external storage but the internal storage is the Internal phone storage and the external storage is the Phone memory. Leaving me without an option to choose the SD card. What's even more strange is that it does pull music from the SD card but now alot of the tags are messed up. All the tags are correct. I've doubled and tripled checked that. Leaves me scratching my head as to what is going on.

Any idea how many apps is too many? I've had at least 15 or 16 apps downloading/updating at once on this phone and I never got an error.
On WI-FI I downloaded 10 at a time no problem. On phones data 5 no problems.
