sorry to make my first ever post a lengthy question, but i haven't been able to find a solution anywhere else on the forums (or google, for that matter). Here's the rundown:
Recently moved over to the Infuse from an iPhone 3GS (jailbroken within one week of purchase) and couldn't be happier. I had it rooted via Superoneclick a few days after i got it and decided to get in on the fun with a different ROM. Tried Infused, Refuse and Bionix but had the same issue each time...after rebooting into the new ROM, everything behaves normally. I can restore my apps via Titanium Backup, re-add my widgets manually, and everything works great. Then i reboot the phone for whatever reason and the Foursquare widget and Tripit widget are gone from the launcher (doesn't matter which launcher i use...tried LP, stock and TW). Not only that, but they also don't appear in the widget selection list if i try to re-add them. The apps are still in the app drawer, and seem to run normally, but the widgets are gone. I have other widgets in use that seem to survive the reboot, but these two vanish every time.
I've followed the instructions for rooting, modded 3e, CWM, and the individual ROMs to the letter. I even tried using Odin to return to stock and wiping cache, etc. before my last attempt, only to get the same result.
Also tried installing the apps fresh from the market without using Titanium Backup at all, but to no avail.
The apps are installed to the phone, not the external SD.
can anyone help shed some light on this? i'd love to be able to take advantage of the features in these ROMs, but if i can't trust the phone to hold on to a couple of widgets, then i don't know what else it could forget.

Try moving Foursquare and Tripit to the internal memory. I had issues where wallpapers installed to my SD card would disappear on every reboot because Android would try to load the wallpaper BEFORE the SD card was mounted, and the wallpaper wasn't available. You may have the same thing happening with your apps and their widgets.
Move all Widget apps to phone. For some reason the infuse move then automatically to the SD card.

Yup. Widgets not working when installed is a known issue with, at the very least, Android System Info. For whatever reason the Infuse defaults to installing to the SD card.
Settings->Applications->Manage Applications
Choose the widget app and move it from SD to internal mem. You may need to reboot after that

apparently the apps were returning to the external SD after restoring via TiB, even though they were in the right place (on the internal memory) when i originally backed them up. my fault for not checking after the fact, i suppose.
everything is running as it should now, and the extra speed/reduced bloat of the custom ROM are fantastic. XDA rocks, and i'm happy to be a part of it!

In short, most Apps downloaded from either Amazon Market or Android Market won't stay on my home screens, but still show in my app screens. I am running a rooted stock 2.2 kernel.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue, and if there was a way to fix it without having to restore my phone.

I have had the same problems with 2.2 but only with apps that are moved to the SD card. Whenever I reboot the phone, the apps on the SD card are gone from my home screen.

restore your app back to your phone memory from external sd so it will not disappear once rebooting your phone that's one downside of stock froyo rom.
happens to me occasionally with apps stored on internal mem. i dont use sd for apps... angrybirds is the biggest culprit
All my apps are on phone mem, and yeah, main prob is angry birds. Ha, nice to know i'm not the only one with this issue.

Same here on stock 2.2. I tried Fast Reboot market app for relaunching TouchWiz, also master cleared data. No joy. Samsung never answered my support email, but what worked was Go Launcher EX, a great alternative to TW.
Strangest thing though... after clearing Market app's data and rebooting to resynch the My Apps section of Market I saw my sim card glitch (slashed circle, no bars) and after reseating/rebooting I was left with phone plus unusable external SD. One new sim, new Cappy (my 4th) and new SD card later, needless to say Apps2SD nevermore!

I think angrybirds defualts to the SD card. Hence angrybirds, and other SD apps dissapearing like the op stated.

I have seen references to a similar problem, but no resolution that has worked for me (or many others)... just a lot of dead end discussions.

I had moved a few apps to SD just as an experiment to see how it affected my internal storage space. After doing that I am unable to update any apps, or install new ones. Some apps are no longer recognised by the Market as being installed even though they're in my app drawer and I can use them.
When I try to update or install an app, after accepting permission I see the download icon appear briefly (1-2 seconds) in the notification bar and then it disappears...
Things I've tried:
Clearing Market cache and data
Deleting files from .android_secure (this broke a lot of apps)
rebooting countless times
trying over and over again to install and/or update
My next step is to just wipe and start again, but I'm loath to do this unless I absolutely have to and would prefer to find a solution...
Any help is appreciated!
make sure your time and date is correct
I've had the same problem on my Desire. What I had to do to fix it was to reformat my SD card (specifically the ext partition).
Make sure you back up all your SD card data before doing this. I hope it helps.

I am having this problem right now.. weird..
tried via wifi and 3g.. cant download anything. I have more than 750 MB of space free
I'm also having this problem. If anybody could help it would make my day I updated to the newest market, wiped all the caches (dalvik, market, etc). I don't know what else I can do. I have 751 megabytes free for apps.
I think I read about this here a while ago, can not find it anymore.
After update to firmware 2.2 apps can be stores on sd-card.
BUT icons disappers from desktop when phone is restarted.
This only if its app is on sd-card.
Is there a fix for this, very annoying.

SD Card scanning takes time when you restart your phone, so for all the apps that you have installed in your SD Card, it will take time to load. Also widgets wont load if installed on SD Card. Please check if your icons are not coming at all or they are coming with a delay?

I upgraded to Froyo XXJPS some 4 months ago, ever since its been like this.
I have done nothing else to the phone.
Indeed it takes awhile to scan sd-card, but they do not load back on desktop even if I repositioned them after last restart.

Check your notification bar if the sd card is being scanned or not and make sure widgets are on the phones memory. Also i would recommend rooting your phone, partitioning the sd card and using link2sd app from the android market. It moves your apps to the partition of your sd card and your phone thinks its your internal memory so it won't do a media scan on it meaning your apps load a lot faster. If you want to partition your sd card don't hesitate to message me for more info

Yes, it's a media scan. Just move them to internal memory and it will be fine.

something like this happened to me a while back, the apps were not in the app drawer and also the icons changed to default white and green couldnt launch from home screen. I tried everything short off formatting memory card. I ended up reinstalling all the apps on the memory card ( wont pick up addition space since its already stored on your sd) and now they have been workinf fine since then, i can reboot or install to sd without a problem.
verdict - maybe sent a corrupted apk to sd.
as far as i know (from the time when i was on stock froyo), when you use the "original" way to move your apps to the sd card (settings/applications/manage applications, select app, press move to SD card) the icons placed on your desktop will be removed on a reboot. i dont think its a real "error" on your side, its just how its programmed in stock froyo.
I guess I was waiting for comment like yours, there is a 'bug' in froyo.
Do I have any other options than to root?

im not saying its a bug in android or in the android version we have on our phone. i dont know if other phones running android have the same "problem" with this.
if you want root do a quick search on the G3 section for it. its pretty good explained in a thread.
running a script like apps2sd requires you to partition your sd card, the best thing of it is that after its setup it needs no attention anymore, all the apps you install will be moved to the second partition untill it full. so basicly your phone is tricked into thinking that your internal mem is way larger then it should be .

The first option is to move your apps to internal memory and see if they all fit in the internal memory or not. I think rooting is an easy way to sort out your problem is the internal memory is not enough for your apps.
The latest update to froyo is XXJPU and it's blazing fast! Just update to that and root your phone using this program. All the info is on that thread but all you really need to do is go to settings > applications > development > make sure USB debugging is ticked. Then connect your phone to your computer using USB cable, open the program as administrator and click root. Follow the commands (really easy) and then after everything is done just manually reboot your phone.
Just rooting your phone doesn't really do anything dangerous etc. All it does is allows you to edit the /system of your phone as this is restricted with androids. After rooting your phone you will be able to expand your internal memory. This is done by partitioning your sd card and using an app called link2sd or a script called app2sd. The app is easier.

Here is the issue. I use Titanium at the moment. I have many apps installed on my phone; so many that I HAVE to use the sd card for quite a few.
Now when I install a new ROM it creates a problem. I can't just use Titanium to install my apps in one batch step since Titanium only installs to the phone by default. I have to select about half. Then move them over to the sd card manually. Then go back and select some more. Then move them to the card. And then do the same with the last remaining apps. This tends to take some time to do and is a real pain.
Is there a backup software that will install everything as it was when it was backed up? If they were originally on the sd card then I want those apps to restore to the card by default. Is there anything like that?
I use Tom tool box pro and I'm pretty sure when you restore it restores everything account info themes all that stuff

Thanks for responding. Restoring account info and especially themes can cause issues jumping between ROMs. Would never do that. But does it restore apps originally on the sd card back on the sd card; or does it install everything on phone? That is all I care to know about.
Not sure what app would do what you want, but I put the word out there with the dev of ROM Cleaner.
His script backs up all your apps, wifi/BT/mail accounts and re-installs them before the first boot is even initiated. It also deletes unwanted apps/widgets that come with most sense ROMs. The great thing is if you dont want to delete all the apps and widgets that his script deletes, you can make it to where it won't. its very customizable in that aspect. Edit: You have to run a separate script to restore the wifi/BT/mail accounts, which you obviously don't need to if you don't want.

Patraics is a nice guy and VERY quick to respond to any questions you may have. I posted the question not even 5 minutes ago and already got a response saying that he will look into it.
EDIT: Because of his scripts, i don't even use TB anymore. His way is easier and less time consuming.
I'll have to look into it. I like Titanium backup with everything it does. But I don't know why it is so difficult for it to restore aps to the same location where they backed them up from. Going to send a suggestion to TB too.

TB does have some useful features, like freezing and uninstalling system apps. But realistically, if you arent going to use those system apps anyways, you can just have ROM Cleaner delete them before they even get the chance to be fully installed.
On the other hand, TB also does things that as flashaholics, we don't want it to do, like backup app data that can mess up a fresh flash. which is why I don't use it.
Although it does suck having to start angry birds from the beginning every time I find a new daily driver.... lol
Just an FYI though, IF you do decide to go ahead with ROM Cleaner, when it backs up your apps, it doesnt compress them or anything like that, it puts them all in a folder and then just leaves them there, leaving you to do the clean up, if you don't want those back ups to be there anymore.

For backing up apps I have found My Backup Pro to be very simple. Will backup all apps & media and or data. Also had freeze, unfreeze, wipe cache and wipe data capabilities. Curious why storing all apps on system instead of S.D. card at all? Will take up all of your storage space on system and slow your system down. Also if connecting to desktop only have access to S.D. card so that also limits your accessibility to your apps.
Tbo haven't have an issue of apps not going to SD with titanium backup. Exp, my xda app is on the SD and when I restore its back to SD. Dunno how but ill look and see

Titanium does what you ask. You just need to adjust your settings. Go to preferences>restoration location and chose "original location" instead of the default setting that allows titanium to choose.

That makes me feel so much like a NOOB. I have mentioned this in a few places on XDA and other forums. I have yet to have one person mention that there was a setting in the preferences. I swear it was not there the last time I looked but that was.....well quite some time ago. Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention. Noticed that there were many other new selections in there too. I guess I had the better backup software all along.
Everytime someone flashes a rom you have to go back and reload your apps.I use TitBu as do many. Why can't you load all your DL'd apps onto your external sd card so they survive the flash/reboot?
Pretty sure that you'd still have to reload the apps in the OS, much like installing Windows programs on a second hard drive/partition. They may still work, but they won't register for updates unless they're reinstalled in the OS.
That being said, you can move a lot of apps to the SD if you want to. Go to Settings > Applications, find the app and click on move to SD.
Some will not work if they're installed on the SD, though (Beautiful Widgets, for one).

I usually don't bother as I only do ROM changes at home where I'm on Wifi. I make my backups, flash the new ROM, then install only TiBu from the Market and restore. Works like a charm (aside from all of the clicking I have to do with TiBu...)
