Autofocus - HTC Sensation

The autofocus on the sensation is not working for close items you want to photograph.
An example:

Anyone other experiencing this?

Did you use the close up mode?? Mine focuses just fine..

I've had the opposite problem (tried to take a video of some paragliders), close ups are really sharp though. The automatic settings are a little bit unpredictable, might need to set the mode next time.

That makes it even worse. I called HTC and they suspected a firmware issue.
Im running 1.28.401.1

Yeah, I've had some issues with autofocus with close-ups, with the camera set to macro mode. When you tap on the object to focus it will go through its range of focal lengths and miss the subject. The only remedy to this is to move the phone further away. So it seems that the phone's lens/es are more capable of macro shots than the focussing system currently allows.

I called HTC and they said it might be software related and will probably fix this in next update. Let's hope so!

Having the same issue. It manages to focus fine but locks focus at the wrong moment. Glad to hear they'll fix this.

I definately not. Close up works better for me the autofocus does take a little patience but is worth it after its taken. It blows the g2x cam out of the water that's for sure!!

dude get a can of compressed air & clean out your PC. it'll thank you for the cleaning

I've got a similar problem, it appeared like 2 weeks ago, I cannot focus up close objects I've tried everything, it's as if the focus is stuck on something and never changes no matter what I do. I have changed the mode (close up or macro) different light and so on .. but I can never get a focus It doesn't even attempt to focus. It used to work before when I played around with the setting if I would switch on/off some of the things the camera would magically "wake up" and start focusing, any Idea ?

It's one of the things that HTC broke in the 2.3.4 update. Macro mode worked great before that (i used to use it for bulk barcode scanning, but that is impossible now).

Edit:
So I flashed another rom, played around a bit and now it works Im uploading some pics for you to see the difference. pics taken from distance of about 2-3 cm.

I had an issue last week like this, actually. I was outside and every time I went to take a picture the phone just went black, and I had to do a full power-up. I noticed that when I shut the flash off, it worked fine. But then later, with the flash on, it took pictures okay.
So not sure what the problem was as it was not consistent but yet, I have had this issue.
thats odd i never had that happen , using class 2 16gb from HD2.
I had this issue on my phone all I did to fix it tapping the restore defulte setting on the camera app

Camera Broken?

My camera seems to have wigged out,Tonight I opened the camera app to take a photo and out of nowhere these green lines appeared and they are there while in the app and also appear on the photo.Just letting you all know in case this happens to anyone else.I would like to hear back if this has happened to anyone as I haven't heard of this being an issue and would like to know how rare it is.Thanks

Did you try to reboot your phone not using fast boot ?(you can turn it off by going to settings>power then uncheck the fast boot option)
If that doesn't work try a hard reset This erases all data so be careful and backup.
1. Take out battery.
2. Put it back in.
3. Hold volume down button down.
4. While holding volume down hold down power.
5. You should get a menu with some options, select clear storage(use the volume keys to move up and down, press and release power to select it)
6. When it asks you to confirm press Volume up for yes.
7. Check to see if it works correctly without any apps installed if it does install your apps and then make sure it's still working correctly. If it's still not working send it to HTC.

I have tried this once. A reboot (not shutdown and startup) did it for me. And I haven't experienced it since. I think it perhaps had something to do with the installation of Skype, but I'm not sure. Now I just hope it doesn't happen again.

It's the Matrix, NEO........
When you get the green line issue: Contact HTC Support.
My thread about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127658
Likely to blame for the raw software. Do not worry, more than sure the camera is not physically damaged, reset or backup must help to solve it.
Just wanting to throw another possibility into this - although unlikely - it could actually be a hardware issue.
I have a Digital SLR Camera - and when I've not used it for a while, or, seemingly, when it's a little colder than ambient, that is the exact same effect that I get, until I've run a fair few shots - this seems to clear the build-up of static / moisture / coldness / whatever it is on the CCD Sensor, and it comes back to life.
As I say - it's just a thought - and the CCD on my camera is quite a lot larger than the one in my phone (!), but interesting none-the-less.
I had this too, just sent it back for replacement. There's another topic about this, apparently something to do with EMC protection.

Hi, I got a problem with my main camera, has dosn't work after I change my old broken lcd a new. I changed roms, kernel, roms with ruu, it did not work. Front camera works. In z-device test main camera got a red cross, and in screen option has got problem "test not done" on:
touchscreen detected, touchscreen accuracy, pressure, orientation, size, tool major axis, tool minor axis, touch major axis, tool minor axis.
Maybe problem is the not original LCD?

Is it right for the front camera to not work using an ics rom?

If the quality is bad, check for dust. My front facing camera will degrade 40ish% (literally) after a week cause of dust build up.
Is won't work at all in camera mode, I don't no why it must just be mine. It hasn't worked with various roms. Should I re install the firmware? I don't really use it but its annoying to no it won't work, thanks

ICS Sense ROMS, specifically. I think AOSP ROMs don't have that problem.
OP, what do you mean by "not work"?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
I mean not work as in neither using camera or Skype etc. I have used sense roms and aosp. Currently I'm using dan sharpys stripped rom. But like I say it won't work in any rom. When I select it in camera I don't get any errors etc I just get a black screen, I have made sure its clean. Any help would be great!

Actually now, if I switch to it, it causes my phone to reboot?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
In that case it could be a hardware problem. I've read about a few people having this problem (black front camera screen on a few ROMs and the camera app freezing) but there seems to be no concrete solution for it.
I'm having this problem too. Ever since I upgraded to ICS OTA my front camera has not worked in any application and usually causes the phone to freeze then reboot.
Glad I'm not the only one, just like worldofglass it happened when i upgraded to ics

Hi, i am also having that problem. Yesterday I noticed that my front camera won't work at all. This morning was working just fine, but I was in my car when I tried it, so I just tried it once. Few hours later it won't work again. Once when I tried to turn it on, phone restarted (but just once)... I can se settings, effects and all other buttons on screen, but everything other on screen is black. I have official ICS, and sense 3.6.
Please if anyone solve this problem or find out it's nature (hardware or software) let us others know.
Thnx!
Any answers for this? Habe tried various roms and even re flashing firm ware but still no front camera. My phone just freezes and force closes any app using the camera. Any help appreciated.

So it doesn't look like anyone's found a fix for this?
Like cartermg120, I've tried numerous ROMs (ARHD, LeeDroid, Elegance + CM 9 nightly) and re-flashed the firmware from HERE. Nothing has fixed it.
I'm wondering if anyone has tried to flash the latest official RUU (HERE)?
I suppose that would be a good way to check whether it's a H/W or S/W problem and if H/W, the phone could be returned for a warranty repair...
Front facing camera.
Me too, front facing camera has never worked since the ICS OTA update. Any suggestions?

I have that issue as well. I have been using Virtuous Inquisition rom and when selecting front camera on any app that uses capture, screen goes black. I can continue using the phone except the camera will not work, front or back. I have to reboot in order to be able to use the back camera.

I've not updated my phone via OTA. I'm running a custom rom and it's still blurry to me. Just like the OP described: ''It'll be clear for a second and than become blurry''
don't go too near. back-off bit by bit till you can get focus.
So far, One S has got best camera among Android phones. Even though they said it's same camera module as One X, I compared two of my friends' One X and find out that my One S works better in low-light condition.
Well when take a HTC Amaze lol and take pics as close as you want. I noticed the horrible camera bugs after ota I wish I would have never updated.

I have this problem too.
But sometimes i managed to get it to work but i'm not sure how i did it.
You might want to try putting the aspect ratio to 4:3, focus on something near, it still will not focus.
Then change back to 16:9, then try to focus on something near again, then it'll work.
Im not too sure if it'll work for everyone, but it works for me somehow.

Duo camera issues.

I keep getting a message about duo camera lenses being blocked. Does not happen in portrait mood but always in landscape mode it happens while I hold the phone by the very edges. I am inside my house could it be that there is not enough light?

Could there be dust or a fingerprint on one/both of the lenses?
Also if you're using a case, make sure that it isn't covering either lens as well.
No case and I don't see anything on the lens. I guess it's just mine. Contacted HTC and they said it's an app interfering with the camera because when they had me boot the phone into safe mode, the problem does not occur. I don't have anything downloaded that's camera related.

If anyone can figure out what app may be interfering, I'd be curious to know as I'm getting this error also. I also don't have any camera apps.
I can cause the message to pop up in auto mode by getting the lens close enough to something where the top lens doesn't see the same thing as the main lens but I'm guessing you weren't very close to anything since you were in landscape mode.

This. I've noticed myself when taking a picture and something is closer to the left side in landscape mode.
The whole reason behind this camera structure is for depth. That is why 1 lens is slightly recessed to the other. Its provides better distinction making it similar to the human eye. Yes, one eye is slightly recessed to the other, allowing this to occur. We are smarter and faster at processing that information better than the phone can, so essentially, if something appears closer to the left lens, it will error out.
Fix, cover both lenses, move camera, uncover.

Duo Camera Blocked
I am also having this issue. My original M8 camera worked fine but I swapped it due to an unrelated issue. Now, whenever I load the camera app, it says "Duo Camera Blocked". Obviously there is nothing in the way and I have no third party camera apps installed. In fact I have the exact same setup as the previous phone which didn't have an issue.
I'm starting to think that this is a hardware issue and will need replacing. Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Yes my friend
Anyone help it ?
I just got my M8 today, played with it for a couple of hours before unlocking the bootloader. Restored titanium backup after unlocking, everything was fine until I opened the camera. I also keep getting the "duo camera blocked" warning, I tried taking pictures for an hour straight but the warning persists and I can't use U-focus or any other duo feature on every picture I take.
I'm on stock ROM and recovery and unrooted. Tried to restoring factory settings, no success. Just updated to the newest firmware (1.54.401.10) via OTA but still no working duo camera.
Should I sent it back for repairs (with relocked bootloader) or has someone found a solution for this problem?
Hey I started the thread, but I can not explain how my issue as just gone away. But I think I stated I don't use the camera that much but have recently been using it without issue. Strange. When in doubt I would just exchange if that's an option for you.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I know this is probably very obvious, but make sure your finger isn't covering the Duo camera at all. I've had that message a couple times and it was due to my finger blocking it. You won't see it on the screen.
I'm definitely not blocking the second camera. I tried taking pictures in portrait and landscape, inside and outside, with every possible grip, there is no dirt or dust on the lenses, it just doesn't work..
I just got on the phone with customer support, they advised me to sent it back for repairs.
After calling I just noticed something that might explain what's wrong with my phone. If I look very closely at the second camera lens, it seems like it's tilted sideways a couple degrees. I attached a photo taken through a mirror (I don't have another camera at the moment). Can someone confirm that it's not supposed to be this way?
Its hard to tell in the pic, but to me it looks like the Duo is aimed slightly up. Try taking the pic a bit farther back from the mirror and without the case. Also I've found it's very sensitive to fingerprints causing slightly blurry photos, and you have one on the main lens. See if you can get a slightly clearer one.
Here's a better picture, taken with another camera. I drew a red square to show how the lens appears to be tilted.
I'm sending the phone back for repairs tomorrow, I hope they don't make a big deal of the bootloader being re-locked.
