HTC One S camera - HTC One S

Just curious if anyone else is having thos problem. When I take a picture close up to something an click the screen for focus it gets really clear then goes back to blurry. I was wondering why my pics that were distant were blurry that's why I took a close up of my hand and it did that.

Still blurry for me

Did you happen to update to the latest OTA? I did and I started noticing that. Before the OTA, not so much.

I've not updated my phone via OTA. I'm running a custom rom and it's still blurry to me. Just like the OP described: ''It'll be clear for a second and than become blurry''

don't go too near. back-off bit by bit till you can get focus.
So far, One S has got best camera among Android phones. Even though they said it's same camera module as One X, I compared two of my friends' One X and find out that my One S works better in low-light condition.

Well when take a HTC Amaze lol and take pics as close as you want. I noticed the horrible camera bugs after ota I wish I would have never updated.

I have this problem too.
But sometimes i managed to get it to work but i'm not sure how i did it.
You might want to try putting the aspect ratio to 4:3, focus on something near, it still will not focus.
Then change back to 16:9, then try to focus on something near again, then it'll work.
Im not too sure if it'll work for everyone, but it works for me somehow.

People said that in the latest ota 4.0.4 this problem is gone.
I can't confirm but if you want to try.

Nexus S FFC flash????

I was wondering if there is a app or someone can make the screen get bright right before you take a pic with the front camera kinda how there is a "flashlight" app for phones that dont have a led light and use the screen brightness just wondering if this would work for night time pics
searched around could not find anything on this at all so sorry if it was answered
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
i doubt it will work since it is facing you and not the real camera
Well what i was thinking is you take a pic of yourself with the front camera that the screen will get bright white kinda like a flash but just making it as bright white the screen can get for a second to see yourself better at night

I agree. That's very similar to my Mac desktop. The screen flashes right before it takes a self portrait. I bet an app can be created, but the issue might be auto focus. The front cam isn't all that great with auto focus so when the screen flash it might show a white blur.

On my nexus s it does not focus with the front camera justs takes the pic as is, is it suppose to autofocus? Im on nightly #31
Anyone know who we can talk to, to get something working?

Autofocus

The autofocus on the sensation is not working for close items you want to photograph.
An example:

Anyone other experiencing this?

I've had the opposite problem (tried to take a video of some paragliders), close ups are really sharp though. The automatic settings are a little bit unpredictable, might need to set the mode next time.

That makes it even worse. I called HTC and they suspected a firmware issue.
Im running 1.28.401.1
Yeah, I've had some issues with autofocus with close-ups, with the camera set to macro mode. When you tap on the object to focus it will go through its range of focal lengths and miss the subject. The only remedy to this is to move the phone further away. So it seems that the phone's lens/es are more capable of macro shots than the focussing system currently allows.
I called HTC and they said it might be software related and will probably fix this in next update. Let's hope so!
Having the same issue. It manages to focus fine but locks focus at the wrong moment. Glad to hear they'll fix this.
I definately not. Close up works better for me the autofocus does take a little patience but is worth it after its taken. It blows the g2x cam out of the water that's for sure!!

dude get a can of compressed air & clean out your PC. it'll thank you for the cleaning
I've got a similar problem, it appeared like 2 weeks ago, I cannot focus up close objects I've tried everything, it's as if the focus is stuck on something and never changes no matter what I do. I have changed the mode (close up or macro) different light and so on .. but I can never get a focus It doesn't even attempt to focus. It used to work before when I played around with the setting if I would switch on/off some of the things the camera would magically "wake up" and start focusing, any Idea ?
It's one of the things that HTC broke in the 2.3.4 update. Macro mode worked great before that (i used to use it for bulk barcode scanning, but that is impossible now).

Idk bout that im with 2.3.5, sence 3.5, sense-o-maniac 1.47
Edit:
So I flashed another rom, played around a bit and now it works Im uploading some pics for you to see the difference. pics taken from distance of about 2-3 cm.

Reduce brightness of capacitive buttons

Do you guys also think brightness level of the three capacitive button below the screen is too high? That causes the light leaks that is referred to here. especially at night, they look kind of annoying to my eyes. Is there a way to come up with a MOD to lower their brightness? Or it has to be changed at kernel level?
If so maybe we can post this to htcdev forums and ask HTC to do something about this.
I'd like to be able to turn them off completely. Annoying when watching videos at night. If solves the light leaks even better.

Awesome man. Turned mine off permanently.
Tip. Some reviews complain about the app having too many permissions. If you uninstall after making the changes, the settings maintain. We'll see if they remain after a reboot.

Probably not in any huge way unless you use the phone a lot in dark places.
For me, I prefer them off. Watching videos at night is much better and I no longer have the light bleed at the bottom corners

How do you turn it off permanently, mine does return after locking the screen.
In the options menu there is an option to force the button backkight off.
Btw- if you uninstall the app, the lights will return after a reboot. Have not tested with the app installed plus reboot.

If we can find the file that this app modifies, maybe we can make it more permanent. Unless that file reverts to stock after a reboot as well.

Gizmoe's Stock Root v2 camera question

My camera makes a subtle "click" now when I open or close it, regardless of which camera app I'm using. Any idea what's causing that, or if it's dangerous in any way?

Do you know if it's coming from the speaker or the camera hardware. I don't hear a click on my phone so it could be the hardware itself coming lose. I turned on sound feedback to see if it clicked when opened and no sound either. Not sure what it could be. But if the camera is failing the worse that will happen is you will no longer have a camera. It's not dangerous in anyway I know of.
It doesn't do it on your vanilla stock, revolution hd, or cyanogen. As a matter of fact, after a restore, I just checked it, and it isn't doing it anymore. Weird. Maybe been a random glitch. I had to reboot several times to get the lock screen shortcuts you work. Not sure what was up with that.

Its not the Rom. It's your phone. Don't know what to tell ya.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda app-developers app
If it were my phone, wouldn't it be doing it on other ROMs (it doesn't do it on your rooted stock)? And it's not coming from the speaker: I've isolated the click to the actual camera. Is there a way to remove or disable the camera upgrade and see if that's what my phone doesn't like here? Otherwise, the ROM is perfect. My fave so far: revolution 7.0.4 just doesn't "feel" as solid to me.

That's the thing there is nothing that I did to the camera. It's complete stock and your the only person out of over 500 downloads that has mentioned this. If it was an issue then I would be getting more than one report. I also am using the same version and hear no click. The only thing that may be the cause is the kernel I am using but I don't see how. If you want, flash the bd ace kernel and see if it still happens. It could be a combo of a failing camera and the kernel I'm using. I don't think your crazy I just think there is something unique happening here. Wish I could be more help but without the device in my hand I can only make guesses.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda app-developers app
I'm gonna try redownloading your ROM, checking the md5 (is that necessary or just on radios?), in case I got a corrupted download first. Your work is awesome, believe me. I really like this ROM. I just noticed that click noise, but the camera works fine. If that doesn't work, I'll try the kernel you mentioned next. If all else fails, I'll take it down to vanilla stock. Thanks so much for your trouble.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda app-developers app
Ok, so nothing made a difference. It only makes the noise about 50% of the time. I googled it, and could only find a couple of Android Central posts about the same problem. You're 100% right: IT ISN'T THE ROM. Mine now does it in stock too. However, the others who posted it happening stated it was either "normal" or "it isn't hurting anything. Camera works fine months later." That gives me relief. Sounds like it's probably just old age. Some moving part getting crusty or something. Cool. Thanks for your input, giz.

Opening the Camera changes my brightness, is this normal?

I haven't experienced this in my past Android devices so it's kind of odd.

Pretty sure it's a Sense thing - I imagine the idea is to make sure the viewfinder is as bright as possible.
I haven't noticed it in AOKP, and I've kinda missed it.
But it goes back to original settings shortly after closing it
